The hotel is a fun dive. The overall experience with the restaurant, sports fishing and party atmosphere gets 4 stars. My boyfriend and I love Saint Michaels and we go every summer. We wanted to explore Tilgman's Island because it was only 15 minutes down the road from SM. The Harrison House hotel is ok. The bathrooms look to have been re-done and were clean. The AC unit worked great. I never got an e-mail confirmation or a fishing trip confirmation but everything was in order when we got there. The room itself was tiny, but since you're right on the bay, I don't think having a big room is that necessary bc you only need it to sleep. The carpet in the room felt nice and I didn't feel like I had to walk around in flip flops. They say all rooms have hair dryers, but ours did not. And when I went to ask for one they had 1 extra they gave me. The maid didn't replace our bar soap, but did clean the room up well. The hotel is old school, so they actually give you 2 room keys and not an electronic card. We watched the sun rise and sun set every day we were there. Even though we didn't have a water front room, our room was 20 feet away from the wrap around patio, which was right on the bay. It was so relaxing. We went to the seafood buffet one night for dinner. I highly recommend the crab imperial and the prime rib. The mac and cheese is good too. The rest of the stuff on the buffet was ok. Probably would not pay $35 again for it though. The service was good. I'd say the highlight of the trip was going fishing. I believe there are 3-4 different packages you can get. Packages include a pre-packed lunch and breakfast. We chose to bring our own cooler or food and drinks so we only paid $150 each. I think if you want food included it's like $180. We were on the boat, Working Girl, with Captain Shannon and First Mate Alan. They were the nicest guys. Alan is hilarious and Captain Shannon was patient with first time fishers and so nice. You can tell they both love what they do. There were 6 of us on the boat, plus the Captain and Alan. There was plenty of space for each one of us to sit somewhere. It was a good group of people too, so that helped. We took off around 5:45/6am. It's nice that you don't have to drive anywhere to get to the dock because the dock is in the backyard of the hotel! We arrived back around 2pm with 12 Rockfish. 2 per person. We cooked the fish last night and it was so fresh! We are planning to go back and take another fishing trip with some family and will definitely be requesting Captain Shannon and Alan. My parents came here over 35 years ago, and I just returned from a family overnight stay with them, as well as 2 brothers, husband and son. The location is beautiful, with grassy lawn, gazebo, dock, and all-u-can eat crab deck. There are paddle boards and a pool. Staff is SUPER laid back and accomodating. Local color abounds, rooms are dated but comfortable with fridge/micro and great views, and the restaurant serves perfect jumbo lump crab cakes and fried chicken, family style. We sailed and docked, but I may return in a car someday. read more

We flew in to MD for a wedding on the island and we stayed here for two nights. The place is old and a little run down, but it added to it's initial charm. Kinda of that nautical old tavern and inn by the harbor. The people and staff are friendly, but the rooms were in sad shape. The rooms probably hasn't been in about a decade. Rooms were not thoroughly cleaned as I found dead insects in on corner of the room. There were stains on the walls of the bathroom and the water had a slight sulfur smell. Bed was a little lumpy, No cable, no wireless, no phone. They was a wedding the first night we stayed. The guest got loud and rowdy around 3/4am and I couldn't call to complain to the front desk, since there was no phone in the room. Cheapest option on the island, but I wished I had known about the conditions earlier and I would splurge a little more to stay at better place. read more

What can I say! We showed up, were greeted very nice. Checked into the rooms that were fine (This is a fishing place you know, not vegas) Nothing fancy but amenities were all good. For a fishing spot to base out of I think the rooms were just fine. We caught fish, limited out, and had fresh Rockfish for dinner at the restaurant. All cooked perfectly, sides were delicious, no complaints at all. If you're looking for a good place to go fishing and base out of that also has a restaurant (which really does come in handy especially for early morning departure) then this is a great place to go. I have not been there during summer, but it looks like it would be a fun place to hang out. If you're looking for something fancy, you may be disappointed, but that is not what this place is trying to be. We enjoyed our visit, comfortable rooms, great food, and caught fish. Went to have the oyster buffet this evening. Had a cup of cream of crab soup, it was lacking in Sherry so I asked for some which they brought. Much better flavor after that. Oyster stew which was rich in taste, amazing. Had the buffet which has everything which includes oysters made every way you can imagine. raw, fried, Rockefeller, casino, and one with lump crab meat & cheese on top. So incredibly good! Also had mac & cheese, fried chicken, stewed tomatoes with oysters in it. Will definitely be back! read more

No one here seems to like where they work. Perhaps it's because its in the middle of no where, or they all believe to be on the same sinking ship. I've been on and off the island for 30 years now - Harrison's was the place to be in the late 80s - such a cool destination. Now its run down, with a private investor trying to bail out the biz before it sinks to the bottom. Buddy and his son should spend more time picking up refuse in and around the property rather than their beers on the bar. Cleanliness is easily achieved if anyone had the motivation - it seems like these days - no one does. The place was "remodeled" in 2012, but it looks more like a bad hair transplant. I see people complaining about the crabs, but this part of the Chesapeake hasn't seen many crabs for the past 3 years, so lets be lenient. You will get slow service - food is not consistent - staff might be a bit brash, but I'm sure most of that comes from snooty tourists who come in and complain about everything. I happen to enjoy going here to watch the train wreck, or watch the other patrons complain non-stop about how its taking too long to get their drinks or food - WWAAHHH!! The telltale sign was when we walked in and one of the kitchen staff was playing on his phone at a table and was surprised that actual customers were going there to pay for food. I think he called the host/waiter on his cell phone to seat us. We were literally the only people in the very large space. I ordered the Rockfish bites which were burnt and fried in old oil. The sauces it came with were out of a jar. My entree was fried softshell crabs. They were also burnt in the same old ass oil. The waiter made a big deal of pushing the potato salad and coleslaw on us, and it also must have come out of a factory processed giant tub of old mayonnaise. Our waiter was good and came back to the table often. It is on the water but it was views of a marina and boats. Not much nature or scenic views. This place reminded me of a seaside version of the hotel from The Shining, but you don't need telepathic powers to tell that this place has seen better days. read more

This is why: WHAT WENT WRONG: Called to confirm twice we could check in 3 hours early as we traveled with a infant. They gave us the key saying no one was there and we could, we found staff staying in the room, unclean/not ready for us. 30 minutes later it was ready slightly cleaner. Non-smoking room with cigarette burns on the carpet, food residue in the microwave and a view of their restaurant('s roof/fryer hoods). Not the water view as promised. There was an event there that weekend and while I don't think they were understaffed they were not well organized. They also didn't charge three of us for a breakfast buffet, but then again, they ran out of food. read more

Four of us stopped in while visiting a couple small towns along the Chesapeake bay. We went to the Crab Deck outside for lunch and had great friendly service and perfect atmosphere (if you are looking for bay side seafood with a view) Between the 4 of us we ordered all appetizers. The pound of shrimp came out extra extra large and had a good portion of Old Bay on it for a nice seasoning (it's Maryland!) The cream of crab soup had huge chunks of crab meat and was obviously made fresh. The seafood nachos sounded a tad sketchy when we ordered them but had great flavor as a fun add on. Then the crab dip came out in a bread bowl.... Wow... If you are eating here... Do yourself a favor and order the crab dip... It was excellent. Never thought a place on the shore would have good fried chicken, but it said house special and I will say it was darn good. That was about the only positive thing I can say about this place. Granted it was busy, but it's a holiday weekend and management should know to staff up. Most people were outside and we ended up seated at an inside table. I'm willing to look past a few things, but there were about a dozen black flies buzzing against the window next to our table, which should have been a sign even the flies were trying to get out of this place. After the waitress showed up and got us drinks in a reasonable amount of time, it took about 15 minutes from that to actually place an order. After that, at least 50+ minutes to get our food. Again, I will say the House Special (Fried Chicken & 2 Crab Cakes) were above average, but our waitress, who mentioned she was supposed to be off but got called in, was totally overwhelmed with to many tables and made an effort to check back in, but kept forgetting water and just mentioned one time that everyone was ordering fried food and it would be out soon. She had too much going on in separate sections and no management support. Food was above average, our server tried but just no support from her kitchen in terms of time and I guess a visit from a manager or some sort of discount on the check for food that felt like it took, and almost did, an hour was a little to much to expect. As we walked out of this place, most of the wait staff was going through the buffet line with to go boxes and just wanted to go home. Pretty good. We would have gone back if we were staying another night. I had the duo with a broiled crab cake and broiled flounder. I did not love the flounder but the crab cake was yummy. Well seasoned and lots of crab. My entree came with coleslaw, veggie of the day and either mashed potatoes with gravy or a baked potato. I would go back and decline all 3 of these sides, not worth it. I would order 2 crab cakes with fries and a side salad. I would ask for an extra basket of the fresh delicious rolls and make myself 2 crab cake sandwiches. Friend had the tuna medallions appetizer and wasn't happy. The tuna was cooked through instead of seared and the accompanying seaweed salad was too sweet. My gf had the half house special - 2 pieces of fried chicken and a crab cake. She cleaned her plate, loved it. They both had the cream of crab soup - it's super thick and really tasty, one of the best flavored soups I've tried in awhile. They had a special drink with different flavors of absolut and fresh fruit crushed up. All of us had the ruby red grapefruit after we tried my friend's. It was delicious! The waitress warned us that it would sneak up on us :) I am a super lightweight and was lightheaded halfway through mine. Friendly service, right on the water. A fun, cute place :) read more

Don't be fooled by the front! What a beautiful place once you walk in the front door with a big bar, nice indoor restaurant, outside seating and a huge outdoor bar overlooking the boats and bay. Excellent lively vibe! We had a bunch of appetizers. Calamari, boiled Shrimp, and a cheese crab pretzel. All very good. Service was great. Inside they had a full buffet. We sat outside at the bar area filled with loads of picnic tables. The bar is big, has big screen TV's and there was a DJ. We will be back often read more

For starters, ignore the reviews that complain about run down hotel rooms. The rooms had a full remodel in 2012. Second, don't come here expecting haute cuisine. This is good ol' Eastern Shore family homestyle cooking. For what it is, it is very good. I recommend the cream of crab soup. It is the best item on the menu. Also, go for the rock fish/striped bass. It is caught right out in the bay, and really fresh. Finally, be sure to sample the cole slaw. They make it in-house, and it is one of my favorites. I've eaten here many times. I would never visit just for dinner. I come here for the sport fishing, and the restaurant is more than satisfying after a day out on the water. read more

This is an oyster house, it is not fine dining and I wouldn't want to stay in the hotel unless I was really on the cheap. I gave it 5 stars because of a very limited component of the experience. If you want Oysters fresh as they come, shucked in your dining room, and a view of the waterfront (I think I remember that, interesting place to walk around for a minute or two)..... Oysters come about a dozen ways (maybe more) if I recall (back 3 years or so) correctly. I only came across this yelp listing after much work to re-locate Harrison's as part of planning a trip of several hours, primarily (only at this point) to hit Harrison's, it's that good. Perhaps it would be good to call ahead and confirm the menu/whatever my/your expectations may be. read more

Never made it to the table. The hostess was agressive and rude so we left. There was a sign that said we ask four things one of them was be courteous. Wow, staff sure isn't courteous. Stumbled upon this place on a recent visit to St. Michaels/Tilghman/Cambridge and had a great time. The restaurant deck is right on the water/marina and it's dog-friendly, so we brought our dog out on the deck for lunch and watched some college football on their outdoor TVs. Great setting for a crisp Fall day to sit and watch some football, have a few beers, and eat some awesome seafood. They have a ton of picnic table seating as well as a big bar to sit at outside. We had the mini crab bites appetizer, steamed shrimp (which were HUGE and delicious), hush puppies, and a burger. Everything was good. Mediocre food. Slow and mediocre service even though we were one of only two occupied tables. The tuna and rockfish were ok, but we learned only when the food arrived that they were out of wasabi for the tuna in wasabi plum sauce. The French fries were frozen and the other sides were canned. If I wanted frozen/canned food, I would have gone to a grocery store. The rumbling of a loud diesel engine of a refrigerator truck in the parking lot spoiled the ambiance of the porch overlooking the dock and Harris Creek. But this place did have the advantage of being the only place in town that was open at 5pm on a Monday evening. The alternative would have been a 30 minute drive to St. Michael's where there is truly excellent food. read more

The food has always been great here. But tonight, we had a very poor experience with the wait staff and manager. When asking for an additional menu, the waitress told us they didn't have such a menu. We have been coming to this restaurant for years so we are familiar with their menus. The waitress became pissed and punched the doors to the kitchen as she went to put in our order. Following this, the manager returned to "stick up" for her waitress and explain why we were wrong and suggest we needed another waitress. She gave us a lot of attitude for questioning her waitress. Despite some confusion as to what this menu was called, and in fact there being an additional menu for us to look at, we were treated poorly. For this reason, I give it 1 star. I see now why we are the only people in the restaurant. Everyone else already figured out they can get better service elsewhere. read more

I've been visiting Tilghman Island my whole life. We've stayed at Harrison's before as well as gone fishing with them. My fiancé and I knew Harrison's would be the perfect place to host our wedding and enjoy a relaxing weekend with family and friends. The entire team at Harrison's did an outstanding job to ensure our day was perfect. We took notice of their true desire to meet our expectations. The service was great and they attended to every detail. They worked with us so to design the table layout and recommended local businesses that assisted with flowers and our cake. On our wedding day, Bud and the entire staff were there to bring everything together. We felt more like family than just guests. We had many family members travel from as far as 7 hours away and everyone loved the location. We heard many positive comments on Harrison's- specifically the water views, the atmosphere and the great food! The crab cakes were outstanding. We are looking forward to our next family stay at Harrison's. We would definitely recommend Harrison's Chesapeake House for people looking for a great getaway with amazing water views, great people, great food and all the outdoor activities you could imagine. read more

There's a reason the reviews are mixed. So is the food. The lump crabmeat with ham was excellent. Everything else, no. Fried clams were from a supplier, as they were the same ones we had at a restaurant in St. Michaels. The "no filler" crab balls and crab cakes had no filler if the filler they meant was the crab meat. Way to much bread for a place around here. The best vegetables on the table were in the Cole slaw. The others (they're served family style) were overcooked or over seasoned. The place seemed run-down and not very clean. There are way better places to eat around here. read more

Great view, very friendly staff. Seafood buffet if you're into that. I got the scallops both ways (1/2 fried, 1/2 broiled) & the broiled scallops were pretty good. I wasn't as much a fan of the fried stuff. Crab balls on the buffet I thought were very good. Crab cake was very shredded/mixed (not lump meat style). staff-- I have to say that the staff was very good. One guy (I assume the manager or something was super friendly and nice). Our waitress was also great & personable. drinks -- Our waitress didn't know much about alcohol but personally I don't fault wait staff for that. People in our party got a an almond martini (delicious) and a mojito. The mojito was weird. It had a splash/layer of something brownish at the bottom and we never learned what it was, even though we asked... Waitress said they just started serving mojitos and couldn't explain the ingredients. whatevs. Even though I wouldn't say the food was amazing, it's kind of cool that it's a long-time family run place and I'm happy that we tried a restaurant on Tilghman (rather than just going to St. Michaels). read more

We found this place atrocious. We came in on a Friday night, and were seated immediately. Our server seemed fine at first. When my wife and I went to ask about food however, she cut us off, saying "Well, whatever you would get on the menu is just at the buffet, so you might as well get that." Nice. Great service. The food was almost universally bad or overcooked. Wifey attempted to get some of the crab legs, but they were so overcooked that the shells were rubbery. When I went up to see what they had for dessert, a random employee (I assume because of the tray that he carried, otherwise he had no identifying marks to indicate who he was), unwrapped a cold bread pudding from the fridge and placed it over the sterno. Nice. We ended up paying almost $30 a head for bad food and worse service. I even had to borrow a pen from one of the other servers (after walking into almost the back of the house) because ours had not left us one to sign the check and vanished so completely. I would have spoken to the manager, but apparently he was going through the buffet line before us to get some fish fillet, and obviously didn't care about the sorry state of the restaurant. We had almost universally fantastic service and food in St. Micheals and Tilghman Island for the weekend, save this terrible place. Stay far away. read more

My mom invited us down to the shore for end of the summer all you can eat crabs. The outside of the place looks pretty cool and it's right on the water. We sat on the deck, which was very nice. My mom and I ordered the crabs and my daughter and bf ordered the all you can eat chicken and ribs (which at first the waitress claimed they didn't offer, until my mom showed her an advertisement in the paper). The ribs were supposedly delicious, but the fried chicken was super dry and cold on the inside (although the outside was crispy and tasty). Each batch was the same. The crabs were pretty good...not huge, but still pretty meaty. And $35 for all you can eat males, definitely worth it. The service however, deserves 1 star. Our waitress was a hot mess. She was so rude and whenever we asked for anything, it seems like she rolled her eyes. Half the time she wouldn't even answer, but just show up with what we requested. I would think she'd be a little friendlier knowing this was going to be a $200+ bill. When we first placed our order, my 9 yr old daughter said to my mom, "Can I have a piece of crab meat?" The waitress snapped and said, "you can't share." Geez. Oh and the whole time we were eating she was sitting by the bar enjoying a beer---you'd think she would've been a little more relaxed, too! read more

I only tried the oysters and cream of crab soup. My friend got oyster stew. . Oysters were fresh tasting. Soup full of fresh tasting crab with ?sherry added. The oyster stew was very good as well. The bill for 2 dozen (11.99 per dozen) oysters, 2 bowls of soup and 2 iced teas came to $45 with tax. They are in the process of remodeling, so some things aren't finished (the bathrooms for instance) With business probably slow at this time of year, I felt a little sorry for them. But in the summer they probably rake it in. The view was pretty and we had our choice of seating. There is a crab deck outside that looks nice for summer. read more

Terribly disappointed in my visit yesterday, 6/20/2015. My boyfriend and I were super excited to go, because we came for the cruise-in, and the hosts of the event said nothing but good things about this restaurant. To start, it was not busy. Waiter was inattentive and slow, not interested in his job at all, and obviously not paying attention because my order came to me incorrect. I can't eat crab, so I ordered shrimp and fish, and got fish and a crab cake instead. My boyfriend's steamed shrimp took over half an hour to get to us. Never have we waited for steamed shrimp for that long, not even at Joe's. They came out overcooked and almost inedibly salty. My fish was edible after some salt and pepper, but the rest of the platter was not. Lima beans just looked nasty, french fries were barely cooked through, and my shrimp were so covered in butter and lobster seasoning that I couldn't even taste the shrimp flavor. I'm giving two stars because I love the location, right on the water. The best part of my meal was the water, sadly. We won't be returning. read more

8/5/17 Here for dinner with family of 9 we ask the waitress for a bar menu and she states it is a lunch menu and not a bar menu and this somehow upsets the staff enough to have the manager come out to tell us rudely that "we stick up for our waitresses", over us calling the lunch menu instead of a bar menu. Very disrespectful, and it is a wonder why the restaurant is barely half filled on a Saturday. Luckily some members of the family have been coming here for years or i would have left before the food came out. Very disrespectful, will definitely never come back. read more

On our third trip to Tilghman Island we gave Harrison's a try since it's undergoing a renovation that our local friends hope will turn it around. It's certainly not there yet. The food was decent, but ordinary. The decor is simple and dull. The service was terrible. If you're going to spend an average of $25 per entree spend your money somewhere else. read more

I don't understand all the negative reviews, the food atmosphere and service here were excellent! I had one of the specials which was-Rockfish and Oysters and it was very tasty and fresh. It came family style with Cole slaw, stewed tomatoes,Lima beans and mashed potatoes. I also had cream of crab soup,and that was very tasty as well. Have to concur with Dirt B.'s review on 1/6--Harrison's is a sinkhole. There's garbage strewn on the property, the rooms are in bad disrepair (our tub had a piece of duct tape covering a hole, and the handle to the shower door simply fell off when it was pulled to). I didn't have high expectations going there--I'd read that they offered guide services for hunting and fishing, and thought I'd check it out--but it's pretty much a boundless disaster. They party, they fish, they eat, and they have a good time. Stuffy people need not apply! Yesterday 3/26/17. Worst restaurant I have been to in a long time. There were 6 of us (3 senior citizens and a 4 year old). After a long wait (the place was not crowed by any means at 3 in the afternoon maybe 6 other occupied tables), we placed drink orders (sodas). After 15 minutes we had to ask one of the 3 waitresses working for the drinks. It took 50 minutes to get our food. First came the one bowl soup, about 5 minutes later the second appetizer that had been ordered. Eventually the entree, and finally the single salad. The salad was missing the goats cheese and pears it was supposed to have in it. When we told the waitress about the missing components, she said they were out of them and she would reduce the price. So they charged $7 for a plate of lettuce and pecans. The food tasted great dispute the disorganized service and delays. We asked to speak with the manager and were eventually told there were none on site. They were all at the new restaurant in St. Michael's. Eventually a young girl came to talk to us and said she would call a manager on the phone and express our displeasure. They adjusted the bill to remove 2 appetizers and gave us a free small piece of pie. Immediately after eating we left. Out total time there was over two hours. VERY DISAPPOINTED . read more
