Visited here while in DC for the week. They have a decent selection of food and miscellaneous items. They even allow you to build your own 6 pack of beer which is really nice. The downside was the customer service. For some odd reason my credit card (and the card of my companion also visiting from California) was not accepted. They never once apologized for the inconvenience or made any attempts to figure out what was wrong with their systems. (Both cards had worked perfectly fine through the city this far.). I recommend they work on the systems so that out of town guests do not run into the same issue I did. read more

Worse employee ever. So on last Wednesday boo and I visited the Teeter to get seafood for date night at home. First off, the counter was a mess of food thrown about. I wanted Salmon and since I didn't see it on the sign I asked the lady behind the counter how much per pound. She told me two prices then told me to look at the tag. The tag didn't have anything in it and furthermore she was rude. I said I asked you the price she walked away and attempted to help the next customer. At that moment a manager happened by and I began to explain what was going on, she began yelling at him and over talking him and myself. I threw my hands up in disbelief that she was talking to her manager that way. I left without making a purchase and I will never go there again for anything. read more

Great clean store but the checkout is ridicules. You pull your full cart to the cashier which has to take rhe out and ring them up to then bag them or put them back in the cart. The process takes way too long. Then the customer goes to the other side of the register??? Whose idea wad this? It is not efficient or quick when lines are way down the isle. Thr shopping is great but waiting to pay for it, almost 8 min per customer, makes u just want to leave your groceries and go elsewhere. Comeone people we only have 2 hrs of parking. read more

The sandwich and pizza bar is the absolute worst customer service you can get. No one greets you, you seem invisible waiting to be noticed. There has never been a pleasant experience getting my sandwich or lunch there. I have decided to go elsewhere. I can walk half a mile get food from Whole Foods and come back and it will still be faster than getting a slice of pizza or a sandwich from this Harris Teeter. this is an awful Harris Teeter, compared to other Harris Teeter stores. they need to come in and fix this place because it's just terribly managed. whoever runs the produce section should be fired - their selection is AWAYS subpar, and the vegetables are often rotten/moldy/wilted. I actually saw some manager-type woman giving a tour once to trainees (???) talking about how to sell older produce. I mean, I'm not naive enough to think this doesn't happen everywhere, but it may not be a conversation to have in front of customers....anyway, it brings me to why I'm writing this review today. I bought cherry tomatoes yesterday. today I opened them and they were all moldy. yesterday I waited in line forever because only one register was open. HARRIS TEETER CORPORATE - HELP! I guess it's time to order groceries online like the rest of the world..................... EDIT! Like all hts, customer service is amazing. I am pretty sure them asking if you need any help is in their training guidebook. and having this store across the street from my employment is a huge distraction for me. Who doesn't like grocery shopping during their lunch break? They have freshly baked bread loaves from la Brea and fruit and bread samples. There is a salad bar for $5.99/lb, ample seafood and meats selection and even a Starbucks on site. try to avoid the express checkout near the exit, but rather use the ones at the end of the aisles. Yes, the layout does seem rather confusing and I wished they swapped the checkout lines towards the exit instead. But honestly I'm so glad ht is here. Super convenient! Oh and bring a reusable bag, you get 5 cents off per bag. Minus one star bc they don't have the full line of items you would normally find: only 2 kinds of tuna in oil, no 15 bean soup mix, etc. read more

The lunch deli staff has absolutely no sense of urgency. They all work lackadaisical. Some of the staff is more interested in talking than serving customers in a timly fashion. We waited in line with only 2 people ahead of us for over 20 minutes for Jericho to get around to making our sandwiches. Avoid this location for lunch. It looks good, but the service is horrible. read more

This store is everything you normally expect at a Harris Teeter. Clean store, friendly helpful staff, BUT and it is a big BUT, their produce department is consistently understocked. Virtually every time I go here they're out of one thing or another, and many times several items and even whole sections have been cleaned out. The result is you'll have to go to some other store to complete your shopping. Save the hassle, go somewhere else first. read more

Good store, only one complaint, and one observation: 1) Where are all the smaller shopping carts that the Penn Ave SE location has? I may continue to go to the other location instead of this one just for the smaller carts. 2) Escalators are reversed from normal. Left is Up and right is down when entering from the garage. Worst service. I've never seeing grocery store lines so long. Stood in the same spot for over 15 mins. 2 people were checking customers out while managers and other employees stood on the sideline. One customer even asked one of the employees to open up another line and they said no. If you can go to any other grocery store, don't go to this one. While I've only been to this store a handful of times, because I just moved to the area, it has always been this slow and terrible. read more

I would not recommend ever buying seafood here. I just bought a pound of shrimp at the seafood counter and once I got home I realized it was badly spoiled. It had a yellow tint, felt greasy and had a horrendous fishy smell. I took the shrimp back and customer service refunded me immediately, but he didn't even seem surprised. read more

I really like the staff at this location. I am usually greeted with a big smile and they are very welcoming. I usually order pizza for me and my business partner and so I often end up waiting for the pizza, but I can usually find a nice staff member to chat with as I wait. I give them 4 stars. read more

I've been regularly shopping at this store in my neighborhood for the last 3 years, and it's mostly fine, your average annoying grocery store experience, but today was awful. Produce is consistently lacking or gone bad, aisles are narrow with people and stock carts stuck by themselves, so it's an obstacle course. And the lines are absurd. Whomever designed the register lines here was truly a moron with not enough foresight to even put signs up to explain the insanely confusing lines - I've never been ANYWHERE where lines were set up like this. For a cashier, you wait with your cart on the side they scan items, NOT on the customer payment side. Today, I waited in a line, only to be told by 2 other customers waiting on the WRONG SIDE that they were next. Then, the cashier on the other side said they were right, and no single other person, including the cashier for my line, spoke up or bothered to assist. I was so frustrated, as I've been there as those two people were only to be told the opposite. Dear Harrise Teeter, PUT UP FLIPPING SIGNS TO EXPLAIN THE ABSURDLY UNINTUITIVE LINE SET UP. It was incredibly unfair, frustrating, and they'll probably come back and do it again because the other unhelpful cashier told them the wrong thing. Get better staff, get better signs. My daughter visited Harris Teeter for lunch today and complained that that her prepared buffalo chicken bites were dry and old.

Gregory is the best in terms of providing outstanding customer service. He always greets us customers with a smile and is always willing to help whether we can't locate an item, help with a speedy checkout, or anything that to meet high customer demanding needs. I appreciate his service as this kind of quality is rare to find in this area. Keep up the great work and thanks for being a great service to the Washington Navy Yard customers. read more

Low prices! This is a standard size Harris Teeter. Since there are a bunch of offices located close by, the store has a large prepared food and deli area. There is also an express checkout at the entrance to help reduce the queues during lunch time which can be quite lengthy. read more

At 11:45 on 8/25/17, I entered my neighborhood Harris Teeter to buy a couple of things for the weekend. As I am shopping a gentlemen kindly let me know that the store was closed. I make my way to the check out line only to be greeted very rudely by a young women who told me that I was not going to be able to check out. I looked at my phone and the time was 12:02. I asked her why and she very sarcastically told me that the store was closed. I think her manager must've seen the look of confusion on my face because he told me I could close out as long as I didn't have any alcohol (which I did not). As I am ringing my 12 items up, I overhear the same young lady tell her manager that he was "being too nice" by letting me close out. If customers who have been in the store before closing cannot check out 2 minutes after closing, the store should close 10 minutes earlier. I frequent this location and tonight I felt extremely unwelcomed. This is not a way to treat a loyal customer. I have worked in the hospitality/service field for the past 10 years and I know that this type of treatment of customer and guests is unacceptable. I'm sure Whole Foods or another grocer will appreciate my patronage much more. The very rude young lady had braids and glasses on. I would've gotten her name had she been wearing her name tag. The produce section here is seriously lacking. There are ALWAYS fruit flies around the fresh fruit - I dont feel comfortable buying any fruit here. The Starbucks here is grossly understaffed. I went today to get a cup of coffee and the ONLY employee working at Starbucks was on a 15 minute break. There is often only one person working at Starbucks during peak times, such as 7 am. (On a positive note, the Starbucks staff are nice and always wish me a good morning, but management needs to hire about twice as many people...) The wait for a checkout is always long and they almost never have any staffed checkout lanes open - only self checkout, which works smoothly somewhere around half the time. read more

Went in for a few items and was left with great disappointment. Out of chicken breast (meat counter and pre-packaged), cauliflower, plain yogurt, and Blue Diamond unsweetened almond milk (2nd time). This store, like the other Capitol Hill HT, has a real inventory/stocking problem. Never before have I experienced such an unreliable grocery store brand. HT just continues to make me really long for Publix, a truly great grocery chain with great customer service, happy employees, and great products. Sigh. read more

The store itself is clean and well-organized. Produce is fresh and the selection is generally top-notch but customer service is lacking, especially in the deli. They must have ten people behind the counter and even with no line it takes 10-15 minutes to get an order of deli meat. read more

Purpose of review is to applaud the pharmacy. Pharmacists are incredible at this location. Very, very helpful and pleasant and just all around awesome to work with - especially if/when things go awry. Rarity to find people that are pleasant both with run-of-the-mill stuff AND situations that become a pain in the...but these pharmacists have time and again proven the exception. read more

When this location first opened it was awesome. It satisfied a long vacant need in the Navy Yard area. In general the store is now just "ok". My particular complaint is aimed at the sandwich/deli area. For the first few months of operation Harris Teeter had a great crew in there that could make subs quickly and with a smile on their face. There was always a line but it moved quickly. In the past 6 months though that long line that formerly moved quickly now only gets shorter when people leave it out of frustration. The 'great' thing about this store is LOCATION. It's convenient and steps away from where I live. The intermittent hours suck since they advertise beng open 7 days a week until midnight, it gets tricky around holidays. Prices are standard on some items and high for the majority of what they offer, plus its limited. Apparently some of their health food items are seasonal and not always in stock. I'm sure employees of the surrounding area love it during breakfast and lunch time...I hate it during game time so thank goodness baseball season is over now! The biggest thing that makes this particular store suck is the employees: they are selective on whom they provide full customer service to during checkout. I'm very observant on things like that and it is a standard pattern of bias going on in there. Have gotten overcharged on items and the first time the reduced price sticker was right on top of the item and the cashier overlooked it...A couple of times I've passed people entering or inside the store with a dog (not for the disabled type of dogs). Dogs are not PEOPLE and that creates sanitation and health hazards bringing them into the store...For such reasons, I keep my purchases there to a minimum! They have nearby grocery shop competiton whether they realize it or not and need improvement. read more

Deli employee picked up an item off the floor and then continued to serve customers without changing gloves. Now everything needs to be cleaned that she touched and the open meats and cheeses she touched should be tossed to prevent cross contamination. Somehow I doubt that's what the manager had in mind when I apprised him of the situation and he said he would address it. I will never buy deli meat there again. read more

Negative stars. Terrible, disgusting experience at store #0383 on 401 M ST, SE in Washington, DC. I went there after work on the eve of Thanksgiving. The produce bags dispensers were empty. There is a hose running water all over a section of the celery and other vegetables and on to the floor. Boxes of untapped produce are just stacked on top of each other waiting to replace the empty spaces where piles of produce belong. It should be the busiest, most profitable time of year for this store, but no one is working where they should be. Instead, little groups of employees are goofing off. At the register, I am overcharged for mini lemons at full price. The cashier who is not wearing a name tag -- so I don't think her name is really "Charlee" as stated on my receipt -- could demonstrate less interest about my complaints about the produce section or that she just over-charged me. After a routine ringing up of my credit card, she stops and has to call Customer Service. I ask twice what the problem is, but she is indecipherable and unpleasant. HT's was already over-priced, and now it is a disaster. I can't wait for Whole Foods to open closer to my home. I will go there from now, never to return to any Harris Teeter unless they make it up to me, which I doubt its store manager will ever attempt because this store sucks that much. Sayonara. read more

I had a chance to visit the Mst location today and althrough everything looked and tasted amazing...... the customer service was poor. I stopped an associate and asked for an item and they ignored me first then asked again they pointed to where I needed to go instead of assisting me and or walking me to the item. I witnessed the same associate helping the next customer with smiles and being very polite....Second they had a cheese item that was off of sale but the signs were still left up (expired 11/17/19) and today is the 19th......b2 8 oz bags of cheese and get 3 free......went to checkout once my shopping was complete and all to find out that the customer service rep Mike would not honor the sale even though the sign was there, instead he said if I purchase one bag I can recieve one free then walked off........now being a former manager myself I know that its not the customer fault that someone in the store didnt do their job properly and that sale item should have been honored.....I didnt make a big deal about it but I was disappointed. The two young ladies at the checkout were awesome......I think ill stick to my Capital Hill location. I've never have any issues there..... read more
