If you're planning on working here, be cautious. They plan on making you rotate around positions, so you arent just stuck in one area. You arent able to drink water your whole shift, if you're desperate enough then you must take your 15 minute break to do so. To the manager who yelled at a new employer who isnt fluent at english for "not doing work," shame on you. They were actively cleaning, saying that they weren't being good enough is absolutely despicable. Doing it in front of customers as well? Does that make you feel better about your self? I won't mention names, I don't think it's worth it to get anyone fired. So my GF was vacationing in Tulum, MX with her friends and needed some more money. So I went over to this Harris Teeter location to use their Western Union. First of all, when I arrive three of their employees are standing around laughing and talking about some TV show ( I don't remember which) behind the Customer Service kiosk. I later learn it was one Assistant Manager, one Manager, and I am not sure if the other guy was also a manager or a vendor or someone higher up. So I am standing there trying to be patient and catch their attention. 5-minutes go by and they are just "hanging out". Finally I say "excuse me" with a smile and the Assistant Manager, a short white-man (race is unimportant, but just painting a picture) holds out a finger and says"one moment sir" and their conversation continues for another 30-45 seconds about what occurred in the latest episode. Finally he approaches me, and is visibly upset that I interrupted his water cooler jokes. I tell him my story, place a per-written note with the address of the receiver (my GF) so every thing would be clear and $1,000 in cash at the kiosk. He turns around to the terminal and begins punching in numbers and letters. At first calmly, but as time goes by more and more furiously. He then starts asking me where to enter what information in the WU app. I said "I don't know" but what I was really thinking in my head was, "How the heck should I know how to use apps on the Harris Teeter system!? What a silly question!" This just lead onto more and more rudeness from this Assistant Manager. There were 3-things he did not understand: 1. Mexico has multiple states; 32-states. So Tulum for example is in the state of Quintana Roo. So the address was written as "Tulum, Quintana Roo, Mexico". And he didn't understand; "Why are there 2-cities here?" There aren't? 2. Mexico's country code is +91. Similarly the US has a country code of +1. If someone from outside of the US calls us here, you first dial the country code +1, then the area code ###, and then the number ### ####. He kept telling me there were too many numbers and the "area code" was only two-digits. 91 is a country code, not an area code? 3. He just didn't know how to use a Harris Teeter terminal or the software. Finally I had enough of his rude behavior, and said "I am done. I would like to speak to your manager." At which point he got a worried look on his face. I told the manager what was going on. The manager then came on to the terminal, and after 10-minutes of her fiddling around, I could tell if I stayed there any longer, it would just be more time wasted. In my honest opinion, and let me say I am not a physician, this assistant manager had a Napoleon Complex. He was approximately 5'4 with 2-inch boots, balding and just an angry human being. I recorded the incident on mt iphone, and I did think about sending it accompanied with a complaint to Harris Teeter Corporate in North Carolina, but later in the day I just felt sorry for him. He has to be that person, day in day out. That has to be tough holding on to that much anger inside of you. I hope he finds some help. P.S. And to Harris Teeter: it's 2022, your employees need to be more educated about the world around us, and if not, they should at least be open to learning new things; with respect. read more

I came into the store Monday night, thinking I would be able to pick up something remotely Hannukah oriented. They had nothing on the shelves. This is horrible and does not sufficiently support the local neighbors in the area. I am sure.... there is atleast one Jewish person in North Potomac. This store should be checking out these comments and seriously do something about their deli staff. Employees take on the attitudes of their managers. Whoever is managing the deli side of that store needs to learn about customer service cause the staff he/she supervisors are horrible. I love Harris Teeter. I went to the grand opening of this particular store years ago and have been loyal since then. It is very bright inside and they offer a wide array of fresh produce including local and organic and unique. I really like how they cut open the sexy produce and wrap it in clear plastic so you can see what it looks like inside to determine if maybe you want to try something like dragon fruit or cherimoya. They have a large selection of tomatoes too with fresh basil right in the middle to inspire a nice caprese salad. They have samples like whole foods and many gluten free, free range and organic items to choose from. Very clean store and extremely friendly employees. Also saw a sign about double coupons up to 2$. The parking lot is huge and there is never a line like at Safeway. read more

I usually frequent the location in Rio, primarily because the customer service is AMAZING! Unfortunately my home is closer to this location so in desperate times we run in to get a few items. I have had two bad experiences with the same "cashier". Management failed to address the issue when the first complaint was made, and the young man has yet to change his horrible attitude. I appreciate everything that Harris Teeter stands for, especially in regards to customer service; but this store is NOT a representation of HT standards. I've spoken to management, and will be contacting corporate until adjustments have been made. I agree with Ida, the poor attitudes of its employees flows from the top. It's either time to clean house, or implement a mandatory customer service training for ALL its employees at this location. read more

Very clean, good selection, and they had grape leaves which was a nice bonus since most large chains don't seem to carry them. I was there in the middle of the day so it was not very crowded. I wish HT would get a local start up coffee place in their stores, I guess you get consistency with Starbucks, but their beans are over roasted and bitter. But I do like their iced coffee. read more

Use to be a very nice grocery store but, employees and managers never seem to want to help. Very few who engaged in a little conversation or say 'Hi how are you? Can I help you find anything?' Recently, they are always low on ingredients and produce. I would have given 3 stars but after an employee made fun of me for having a service dog, it's bumped down to 2. She asked me what service my dog was for and I, (number one didn't want to answer) but said anxiety and she proceeded to laugh and say "oh you're one of those people". Whoa. I had a bad day here. I made the mistake of ordering a sub sandwich at 6pm on a Sunday. Since the store is in the middle of nowhere, I thought this was an oasis. At the deli counter, a less than highly motivated employee was asked by her colleague to wait on me. She took her time -- fiddling with the large trash barrels before working on my sub. YUK. And she did it twice to . . . almost to dissuade me from ordering. 12 minutes later I had an ok sandwich. Then I bought a soda and tried to check out. There was a razor sharp but clear, uncolored pen holder with no pen. So in swiping my credit card I tore a gash in my hand on the edge. I used napkins from the deli area to staunch the bleeding, being unwilling to go back through the checkout lanes for bandaids. Ugh. I generally like Harris Teeter but this was simply a hell visit start to finish. read more

Ordered the delivery service because there was no time to get to the store, get the kids, get everything done (you know the drill). Scheduled to have the groceries delivered between 4:00 and 6:00 pm. Was home when the driver claimed to show up to drop off my groceries. This is my 10th or so delivery and no one ever said the groceries must be dropped off with a person. Long story short, I never received my groceries. When I called this store, the Customer Service rep was VERY confused and argued with me - to the point that it seemed like she had to be messing with me. I repeated information MULTIPLE times, like my phone number. I said 703, she repeated back 301. When i demanded to speak to her manager instead, in the end she offered more empathy to the situation, but really, no one ever cared that I didn't receive my groceries and I was really put out. I don't they would have given a refund if I hadn't insisted. Come to find out, the driver kept the groceries in his car and drove around making other deliveries for 3 hours before going back to the store. read more

Harris Teeter in Darnestown used to be great when it opened, but over the years it continues to go down hill. Honestly I am surprised all the time when I find new things that are just terrible. Produce is up and down all the time, but mostly down ... Selection if items was swayed so far that they primarily only sell Harris Teeter branded stuff which sends us to Amazon to get the oatmeal and other items they used to sell ... I went today (Sunday morning) to get bagels and a few doughnuts and they had NOTHING on the bakery shelf or in the bins. Seriously! It's so disappointing every time I pass it to go to Giant in the Kentlands or Whole Foods. Pay attention and fix it Harris Teeter! read more

I can not get over the helpful staff. I stopped at the deli today and had the pleasure of meeting Donta today. I needed a good sharp cheddar to go with the burgers I was doing on the grill. Donta suggested the Boars Head extra sharp and gave me a slice to try. He hit the nail on the head, he also sliced it thin so it would melt like butter on the burgers. Grabbed everything I need for dinner and my cashier Tim was a sweetie. Very polite and got me out in a jiffy. This is truly the politest grocery store I have ever been to. read more

Very tasty deli has Boar's Head meats, though one major critique: off-season tomatoes are excruciatingly bad here. They were so cool in Athens, Georgia and then they took over Maryland. Grocery store items have grown more expensive and more elitist. A hershey's bar is now costing two bucks and things you would assume are cheap are suddenly not. The cereal isle starts at five bucks. I used to be sent here on the quest for independently brewed beer because the selection was much better than anywhere else, but that is Georgia where you can sell beer in the grocery store(and Virginia). It is a great variety of beer they assembled. Great produce selection as well. read more

What's this place doing in the middle of nowhere? Well, when you're Charlotte's Harris Teeter trying to break into the crowded DC supermarket war (see Food Lion and Wegmans) you'll put a store up anywhere. Even Darnestown. HT is already making inroads into the mrket having become the official supermarket of the Nationals. I'm not sure if that's good or bad depending on the Nats usually sucky play. But this is not a sucky market. I haven't been in a HT in over a decade since I was at their location in Atlanta (since closed since Publix now dominates the region) so I had to check this DC area location out. Still a great market with a fantastic selection of produce and meats and they also carry La Brea bread even LaRocca cakes from Toronto. Huh? If you're in the DC area, try the LaRocca cakes. I've had them in TO and they're great. Now to convince them to carry Dufflet as well which is even better. Since they're based in the Carolinas, expect a bunch of products nobody else inn DC sells (John Boy and Billy Hot Sauce?!?!) and a lot of their ugly store brand products and their better design packaging for their HT Traders brand. I was actually surprised their Kosher for Passover section was strong and I liked the fact their store brand ice cream was still cheap. I am a new fan of the Darnestown HARRIS TEETER! Today, I telephoned this store and encountered Whitley. Whitley had a warm communication style and cheerful responsiveness to my questions. Harris Teeter is the only retail venue in Maryland that sells genuine Panera Bread coffee K-Cups and I wanted to know before I traveled to the store if they had any in stock. Whitley confirmed their store had a plentiful selection and supply. When I arrived at the store I fell in love with the layout of the store and the layout of their vast inventory! I loved it so much that I ended up spending more time, and more money than I had intended. This store is warm, welcoming, and very clean! I sought Whitley out to meet her in person and she was as gracious and cheerful in person as over the phone. How wise of the store leadership to have someone of Whitley's poise and excellent customer service profile in the role of dealing with the public! I felt so welcomed by her gracious demeanor and then by the store's fabulous ambiance that I signed up for a Harris Teeter(VIC) card.Thanks to Whitley, Harris Teeter/Darnestown has a new fan and customer. read more

No enough cashiers. I would not recommend visit this location in busy hours. not enough cash register open. Weekend and rush hours, visiting this store is nightmare. Only one cash register open. This location used be one of the best Harris Teeter. Last 5-6 months, customer service drop down. Fruit and vegetable department quality go down. I stop shopping in this location due to wait time at cash register. I hope they will improve customer service and quality of meet products & vegetables. Love it. At Harris Teeter, you can get many specialty items that aren't available at other grocery stores. The customer service is good, the store is tidy, and the produce looks and tastes fresh. I love this grocery store. It's clean and bright with nice wide aisles, well-stocked, well-staffed, rarely crowded. They take the groceries out of the cart for you, so you don't have to load them onto the belt. The only thing I would change would be to increase the selection of organic produce and add grassfed meats. Otherwise, it's pretty much my favorite grocery store. read more

First of all, this store isn't in Germantown; it's in Darnestown, considerably south of Germantown. It just happens to have a Germantown zip code. I shop here often because it's convenient, clean, and well stocked, but the best thing about this store is their service. While I wouldn't call it friendly, they are very attentive and will open another register as soon as they seen more than a couple people in a checkout line. The staff is mostly very knowledgeable and helpful. Every so often, you come across a clerk who's a little slow or unhelpful, but no more so than the typical staff in most other stores. Their prices may average a bit higher than Giant, etc., but they also have good sales and recently lowered many prices. They carry organic produce, though not enough in my opinion. My main gripe is their meat: although they have 3 lines of beef and a good variety of other meat, none seems to be organic or free of antibiotics and/or artificial hormones. So I never buy fresh meat there. read more
