The floors, perhaps intentionally, just look dirty as you walk into the store. The food is of good quality. The prices are reasonable. I did not appreciate the treatment "Gerald" provided us at this location tonight. To begin with, the hours online say they close at 11pm and 15 minutes before, they had already closed the doors. After asking if they would please let us in because it was not 11pm yet, they allowed us to enter but were already upset with my family and I. This was on June 6th, 2024, a couple minutes before 11pm we arrived with our groceries and while he argued with me, they closed the registers and I was unable to pay. It would be great to check the cameras to see how he argued so that 11pm passed and he did not have to attend us. It was unfortunate to see how 11pm came as we argued and we left without any groceries. Another worker said he would be willing to open a register for us but Gerald told him not to. I have shopped at Safeway for over 40yrs (from Silver Spring, Olney, Damascus and now Germantown Store). I see employees pretty decent, friendly and services customers professionally. Should you be a fine decent customer and require decent,'professional service from a provider. Went in during the work week in the afternoon. It wasn't that busy despite it being right around rush hour. The store did a good job with posting social distancing narrowed and foot traffic markers to avoid decongestion. The sign at the front of the store with the mandatory COVID-19 policies was small and kind of out of the way. Also, the hand sanitizing station was awkwardly placed and would have been better in the front entrance after your enter through the automatic doors. The aisles were very organized and clean but I wish they had labeled the sections of the aisles when you enter them so you know exactly what you're looking for since their aisles are huge. They have a rewards program which saved me a few dollars and count towards gas rewards which I heard are the steal of the decade with how much you save per gallon. All in all, a decent place to get your groceries if you're in a pinch and want some savings. read more

This is a smaller Safeway, but has everything you need, especially if you are cooking something and realized you forgot an ingredient but don't want to deal with going to a huge store. (Speaking from experience!) I have done all my weekly shopping there before so that's not to say that you won't get what you need. Another negative review. I have been patronizing this Safeway for almost 17 years. I've been accused of shoplifting, had prescriptions not filled, waited in line when there is only one register open etc... This morning I arrived to the store around 10:15 to cash my lottery ticket winners. Stood at the counter a good two to three minutes. Both workers looked liked they were not interested in working and I was interrupting their morning gossip. Finally after an eye roll And an attitude, I was told by the new "Front End Manager" that I can't cash my lottery ticket winner until lunch time. I told her this was a mid day winner from yesterday. She said and I quote "yea, we don't cash lottery tickets until lunch time, that's when everyone starts coming In". So I left and went to the gas station next door and didn't have a problem. I came back to the store to continue my shopping and made a complaint with the person at self check out. Another thing I would like to note is that I worked at Safeway for three years and I knew she was making up rules in her head as most FEM's at Safeway do, due to their large number of teenage employees. Sorry to say she won't last long, overheard the way she speaks to coworkers, I give her a good 3 months! SAFEWAY......Why so many issues lately???? My complaint is that, at 10 PM on a weeknight, only one register is open. This might be understandable once, but it has happened a few times. If you are a business and you are open at a specific time, you should be ready to DO business at that time. with more than a dozen customers all in one checkout lane, your business is telling customers that they don't matter. Today, on 8/4/21 at 7 am, I went to Safeway for food shopping. I saw the sign of bulk apple little confused, so I decided to ask a man who was arranging fruits nearby. His name is Danny, about early 60s, NOT wearing mask. I (with mask) asked :"Excuse me, sir, can I ask you about this apple sign?" Danny (NO mask) frowned and rolled eyes :"What now? I don't understand you." Then he came towards me. I (calmly looked in his eyes) asked gently :"Can you tell me if this sign includes everything or just gala apple only?" Danny (annoyingly and scolded): "Now, look, LOOK AT THIS SIGN, DON'T LOOK AT ME, it is for gala apples, the others are $5, ok. There's more bags over there." What's on earth? Why did this Danny act as if a customer bothered him for just asking about the confused sign? Why DIDN'T he wear mask? Why did he raise his voice and talk to me like I'm a retarded one? The pharmacy staff are rude and very unhelpful. I just had a surgery and called up to ask if they had a couple of prescriptions in stock. They told me they would have to physically inspect the prescription before they would even tell me if I they had it. The thing I find completely ridiculous was that the other two Safeway's I called had no problem telling me if they had it, neither did the Wegmans or the Giant I called. I'm sorry but I'm not driving my ass half way across town just for this pharmacy to tell me they don't have what my Doctor told me I needed. This store is becoming less and less customer-friendly and community-friendly. Prices are ok for some specials, but in general, are not competitive. Bathrooms are now locked and you have to summon a staff member to open them (this is not true in other urban Safeways, including downtown on Wisconsin at) S Street. It makes one feel as though access to a restroom is based upon appearance. With a multitude of other choices, including two nearby Giants, the Asian market, Alidi, Harris Teeter, etc, this store apparently is not striving to compete. read more

My least favorite grocery store in Germantown. The selection here meets the minimum and the produce is below minimum. I HATE the produce, everything is spoiling or on the verge of turning another color. Even on the day their sales begin, you can tell the produce dept was not invited to the party. I used to stop in for quick picks but soon learned that this is not the store for me. I now come here for salsa ONLY but I found a new line at Weggies that is an awesome substitute. The meat department is dark, dingy and uninviting and so is the rest of the store. And by the rest of the store, I do mean the staff. Now you can get service but dont expect a smile. Likes - produces seems stocked on weekday evenings. - a lot of poultry deals each weekday Dislikes - Get more cashiers. The giant across the street has 20 cashiers on weekday evenings!! This place has 4 on weekday evenings, there busiest time. - Poor seafood selection. Giant is better - Most of their employee's english is poor. The rudest cashiers I have ever met work here, I call them gremlins. So, i just moved here from Illinois to go to grad school in the DC area. Someone stole my debit card from home and so I was relegated to writing checks like in the '70s while a replacement was being sent. Giant takes my checks no problem but lo and behold, Safeway cashier Marco looked at me like I'm an alien. He ran the check and then demanded "I need ID." i was half tempted to tell him I couldn't help him obtain ID, but I presented my IL license to him and his eyes exploded out like I was from Iran trying to purchase yellow cake! After hurriedly summoning the manager (who looked just as dumbfounded) and she gave her approval, he had to repeatedly ask coworkers on how to enter in an IL ID. He started putting random pieces of paper in the check franker and finally flat out told me "It ain't workin." I lost my temper and ripped my check from his hand and informed him I'd be going to Giant where they have great customer service. This was the last straw. I didn't appreciate being marginalized simply because I'm fron another state. Checks are processed electronically anyway so my money is just as good as someone else's! Never going back to Safeway after that ordeal and corporate will be hearing from me! Btw, don't even get me started on how overpriced they are!!! I started shopping at this store about 3 months ago, I go every Sunday with my fiancé and two kids. They have the carts, that my kids INSIST on sitting in, that have the plastic two-seat add on; the straps on these seats have been broken or missing since I started shopping here. Every week, I have made them aware of the issues with the straps and every week I go in and not only has nothing been done to fix them but they are still put out there in the entrance like they are in working condition. Well this past week, 10/1, I found one that looked like it was in working condition; well, only one side was, the other side the bottom buckle has been ripped off. Since I have a 6 year old and a 2 year old, I really only needed one buckle so I decided to use it. As I was going through the store my 2 year old half falls out of the seat; automatically assuming that she was messing with the belt, I told her to sit down and not to touch it. Ten minutes later, as we are walking down another aisle and I am pushing the cart so have a better view, she leans forward slightly and the buckle explodes open and she falls face first onto the floor. She was not touching it at all, the buckle was broken; just not as clearly broken as the rest of them otherwise I would have noticed! After I make sure she is ok, and calm her down, I went looking for a manager. I explained to him of what happened and pointed out all the times I had already said something about the buckles. He just says "ok, well l eave the cart here and I will take it to the back", I again explained that it was not just this cart but ALL the carts with the seat add-on; he says "ok, I will look at them", just like everyone every other week has said to me. He did not ask if my daughter was ok, which she clearly wasn't because she was still crying, her face was red, and starting to bruise! He was more worried about the balloon display he was working on. I obviously could not leave the cart there as it was full of groceries I had not paid for, my two kids, and I still needed to get my groceries to my car... I have no idea if anything was done at this point about the carts. The following day I contacted corporate... they have proven to be just as helpful. I was put in touch with the store director because no one filed an incident report the day before, as they should have. After telling him the whole story, he said that they even keep buckles within the store to be able to fix the carts, so I am not sure why it had not been done for all the months prior that I have brought it to their attention. He then said he would have someone get in touch with me by the end of the day; that was Monday 10/2. As of Wednesday 10/4 I had not heard from anyone so I called corporate back at about 8 am. She could not find any record of my call, so she said she would take my information again and send it off to the store to contact me. Still, nobody from the store or corporate has contacted me back at all. Luckily, my daughter does not have any broken bones, concussion, or anything serious and will heal fine. However, this is the worst display of customer service I have ever experienced; not just on the level of the employees within the store, but also the director and even corporate! To not have any communication back from them what so ever and only the first representative from the corporate office asked how my daughter was doing, they obviously do not care for their customers WHAT SO EVER!!! I will only be returning to this store to see if the seat buckles have been fixed or not, otherwise I will be finding another store to shop at! read more

It's our local neighborhood Safeway and it's a lot nicer than the Giant down the street. Good prices, clean, no issues with the produce or anything else, and the guy at the seafood is always helpful. We also like getting the rotisserie chicken there. My big complaint about the place is that they never have enough checkers weekday evenings (basically, when everyone is coming by to get shopping done after work), which results in a lot of long lines and waiting. The self checkouts help alleviate the problem somewhat, but you still have a lot of people who haven't really grasped how best to use the self checkout (if you know what I mean). So things get slow. Not an easy place to get in and out of. read more

Growing up in the western region of the U.S., I was thrilled to find a neighborhood Safeway when I moved here. Like any supermarket, it can get crowded on the weekends, but parking is ample and stalls are wide. The staff is generally friendly and attentive, although, like anyplace, you'll encounter the occasional sourpuss. The meat department is good-sized, and noticeably cleaner than the ones at nearby Giant stores. If you plan on being a frequent shopper here, do sign up for the Safeway Club card--a sure way to slash your grocery bill and snag the best deals on everyday items like paper towels, milk, and eggs. My only beef with this store is that its aisles--particularly in the bakery, deli, and produce departments--can be very difficult to navigate with a regular-sized shopping cart. With its multiple display tables scattered about in tight, maze-like patterns, getting around this store in even a light crowd might prove more difficult than beating Ninja Gaiden for the NES. Well, maybe not that difficult. But you get the picture. read more

We are Safeway shoppers, but I had an awful experience at this one a while back. I bought an item that was advertised as on sale by a sign on the product. When I checked out, it didn't ring up as on sale. So I went to customer service to have them fix it, since often the computer isn't up to date on sale prices, etc etc. Turns out the sale was over and they had forgotten to take the sign down. The customer service person was being rude, so I went back and took a pic with my phone to show them it was still up. The woman helping me had in the meantime gotten a manager, who said she would go take a look. She came back and said there was no sign! So basically she took the sign down to make it look as though I wasn't telling the truth! I showed them the pic and got a refund, but VERY begrudgingly. Honestly it was only a $5 difference, and the only reason I pushed the issue was because I was being treated rudely. But they lost my business over it! read more

Safeway, when using the Club Card, is currently the cheapest place I can get Enfamil ProSobee (soy based) formula AND size 2 Huggies diapers for my daughter. I rate it three stars because the savings I receive on those necessary items have been a true help and saves us a lot of money (at least while the prices remain low). However, fresh produce and other items that are not discounted with the Club Card seem over-priced, so we end up shopping for those items at another store. read more

I told the store manager about it, but he did nothing about it. Nice Safeway grocery store in Germantown strip mall. It is clean with lots of parking. There are some good places to eat, bank and do other activities all around this Safeway. Good place to shop, walk or sit and have coffee at the adjoining Starbucks. read more

All I can say is that they have an awesome stock of plain clothed police waiting and watching you while you shop. I got a refrigerated juice from the produce section and a bagel from the bakery. I found out I didn't have enough money so I put the bagel back and then was too lazy to walk to the other side of the store to return the juice, so I put it in the refrigerated drink aisle next to the dairy aisle. I put my hand basket down and walked toward the exit. A man blocked me from even leaving the building and said come with me. He didn't identify himself as police or security. Just forced me to follow him to the manager's office. When we got there, he didn't say anything, but this lady said "oh another one?" I didn't do anything so I was upset. He then told me to take everything out of my pockets I didn't pay for. All I had in my hoodie was my phone that my dad pays for...and my wallet. I took those out and just waited. He rudely asked me where the juice was. I told him that if he HAD been following me he should have seen me put it in the aisle I wrote about previously. He told the lady to watch me and them left to see if I was telling the truth. I was. He came back and said rudely that I could leave. No apology or anything. Just because you don't see something happen means it did happen. And not everybody under 40 are thieves. Sheesh. I haven't been back there for 4 years because of the crap I was given. I normally do most of my shopping at Harris Teeter, Whole Foods or Traders Joes, but since Safeway is so close and I just needed about 5 things, I decided to quickly run in today. To me- their prices are ridiculously high to not be a higher end grocery store. Their produce is gross and I didn't really see any organic fruit- to be so expensive. The workers are extremely rude and seemed annoyed when I needed them to check for almond creamer that wasn't expired. They had about 12 containers of Silk creamer that were all expired- some expired about 2 weeks prior! They are also terrible about not pushing product to the end of the top shelves so that customers can reach them. Just overall a poorly run store. read more
