Terrible rotton produce, supposedly fresh chicken is pre-frozen & thawed (see photo). I've experienced unfriendly employees and sen some abhorrent nasty manager behavior at this location speaking very disrespectfully to customers. Recently come up a customer had it out with another customer and the manager. Screaming ensued, police were called and the stored was emptied because shoppers were afraid. Homeless people begging immediately outside the door and a very rough neighborhood at night, in my opinion, makes shopping here, scary. WTH is wrong with this location? Terrible oversight by upper level management otherwise they wouldn't let this kind of behavior happen at the store level. This place has somehow managed to beat Walmart at being the worst store at milestone. We loved Aldi when it first opened. The cashiers were very nice, the employees kind and helpful. But wow! What a change. They all are miserable and would do everything in their power to make the customer miserable. Parking their stocking carts in the middle of the aisle, moving customers out of the way to restock already stocked shelves, dumping rotting produce on top of clean produce. The list goes on. I don't see a single employee from the older times. It's all new, bottom level workforce. If you want to work here the bar is on the floor! I have started driving a few blocks down to Wegmans - the produce is better and you don't have to fight their employees to get to the aisles. I'd avoid! read more

I usually love Aldi, but this location is seriously frustrating--especially for parents like me. I shop with my toddler, and every trip feels unnecessarily stressful. There are four registers, yet rarely more than one is open. Today, the only register available was cash-only, and once again, the same cashier was loudly directing customers to specific self-checkout machines. It felt chaotic and unprofessional. What's even more frustrating is that there are clearly multiple employees in the store, so why isn't anyone opening additional lanes or offering help during busy times? I used to work in retail, so I understand how things run behind the scenes--but this just looks like poor management and a lack of customer service focus. That said, I do want to mention that Skyler, one of the cashiers, is always wonderful--friendly, helpful, and professional. It's clear that some staff members do care about the customer experience, which makes the inconsistency even more noticeable. Aldi is supposed to be quick and efficient--that's why I shop here. This location is well maintained. The associates keep the store clean and organized. They are constantly restocking, while being aware of customers around them. I also appreciate they now have eight (8) self checkout stations. They still have two assisted checkout stations as well. Overall, I find that they carry an assortment and variety of items that I expect to find at their stores. read more

This store is alright. Nothing too special. They have grocery items along with some kitchen and cooking things for sale. Bread, candies, cereals, chocolates, deli meat, home goods, milk, turkey, etc. are present. The store also has holiday calendars, Cabbage Patch Kids dolls, cutting boards, fans, lamps and other useful household items. Prices are decent. The problems we faced are that not enough workers are at the registers even when a long line of customers are waiting to check out. Also, not all of the items have price tags, so pretty difficult to find the prices. Kind of small, so if it's crowded, everyone follows you or hovers over you in the aisles. I am an Aldi fan and am excited for the renovations which started 1/29 to be completed in March (3/9/2018), so I can shop there even more! The staff is usually busy moving merchandise on the mornings when I come in (almost as soon as they open) so registers are a bit slow, but I have not been given a hard time when I want to make returns for items either that I overbought or didn't like. This is the place for me to get my organic, multi-colored carrots as well as other organic items such as fruits and even snacks (like chips and salsa). I usually forget my quarter and although there is a slight struggle for me to unload my items from my bags on to the cash register, I get to use a cart to at least re-bag the groceries purchased in the bagging area and return the cart to the cashier. Germantown, MD Aldi: Prices may be low, but if there is a problem, you have to catch it right away. Corporate isn't always helpful, and their website leaves much to be desired. There is no contact information, no way to email about an issue, the survey on the bottom of the receipt is only good for three days, and trying to get their ad delivered to my email was in vain. The page wouldn't open; totally worthless. I strongly suggest that you check your receipt prior to leaving the store so you won't get home to find you were over charged for an item, or had cash back taken from your credit card that you didn't authorize or receive. This location was recently renovated, and I'm thrilled with the results. The set up looks a lot like the Gaithersburg location. This store carries a larger selection of items, and the aisles are a little wider so it's even easier to navigate your cart. To start, they added new refrigerators in the produce section for prepared salads, spiralized zucchini, and other conveniently sliced items. The gluten-free items are FINALLY stocked together, which makes it a breeze to grab your g-free pasta or pancake mix and go. (I'll also add that this is safer because it prevents products containing gluten ,like wheat flour for example, from accidentally contaminating the g-free items.) It also appears that they hired additional staff. They used to only have 2 registers open most of the time (3 when it was busy). The other day, they had 4 registers open. The store is as no-frills as ever, which I don't mind, and the prices are still the same. $4.29 for grass-fed beef, $3.99 for 3 oz. of smoked salmon, $1.99 for a quart of almond milk - it's hard to beat! This Aldi only hires racist employees. I was in line when the customer in front of me (black lady) forgot her wallet in the car. The cashier (also black lady) made me (white male) wait until she went to her car to get her wallet. I asked the cashier to cancel the order or put it on hold in the computer system and she said she couldn't do that (I call BS that she can't void a pending sale) One other employee (also black lady) just standing there doing nothing. I asked if the employee standing there could ring me up, she said no. Meanwhile 4 other people lined up behind me waiting to check out. At that point, the cashier that was standing there asked another black customer to check out when I was waiting longer, I spoke up and the cashier told me to wait until the other lady came back from her car. I'm the same person who isn't ashamed to save money by taking grapes off the vine, so that they weigh less. I can't believe it took me this long to discover Aldi. For the uninitiated... Aldi's official motto is "Are you hungry or not!" They are not here for your foolishness. You want a cart? You better put a quarter in the handle to unlock one. When you put the cart back, you'll get your quarter back. No one has time to track down carts in the parking lot. Do you need a bag? Either bring one or pay for it, but don't get all high and mighty expecting someone to put your groceries inside the bag. You have hands. Be grateful they're willing to put the groceries directly in the cart. Pay and then move your 25 cent rented cart out the way, and bag your groceries yourself over in the corner. It makes the long lines fly faster than you'd imagine. There are very few, if any, brand names. Why? Does it matter? Are you hungry or not? It's not like you have a brand of green peppers you normally buy. Exactly. Shut up and put those Aldi buffalo wings in your cart and grab some Aldi crab cakes. Either one tastes better than any appetizer you can get in a restaurant. Their salmon is "fresh never frozen." The per pound price of their chicken, ribs, and seafood can't be beat. Their nitrate/nitrite-free, uncured lunch meat is tastier and cheaper than any I've had elsewhere. Throw it on a brioche bun and wash it down with some Aldi water... I love Aldi but this was not my favorite location. Maybe because of the holidays but it was not well-stocked. One of my favorite things to buy at Aldi is bulk chicken breasts that we cook and mix in with our dogs' other food. There were no bulk breasts and the smaller size packages were not a great bargain. They also did not have any unflavored coffee creamer like other Aldis. While I was there I did notice that boxed chicken stock is actually cheaper than at Costco. I'm curious to try it and see if it's the same quality as Costco's. I don't live close to this Aldi and only shopped there because we were dropping our granddaughter off with her mother in the area. I definitely prefer the Rockville location, which is closer to my home anyway. Also being the weekend before New Year's Day it may have not been the best time to shop at any grocery store. read more

It's Aldi. It's not Whole Foods. Don't expect full-service, or full selection. But for the basics, it's grand. If you use store brands at other stores, give 'em a try at Aldi. There are legions of Aldi chocolate and coffee fans around the world (Google it), and for a reason. We find that many of their products don't contain corn syrup, which we like. We love their organic and premium pasta sauces. Great prices on dairy, fruit/vegetables, special buy meat of the week, and seasonal things. Average (I think) on some of the highly processed stuff, like snack cakes and chips and individual lunch-pack things for the kids. We don't buy much of this anywhere, anyhow, so I really can't compare. Can't beat under $2 for a loaf of whole wheat, no corn syrup bread. And usually around $1.30 is incredible. We do like their whole grain bread products, like hamburger buns, bread, etc. Here are some of the things you can get at Aldi for less than any other local market: Bananas, $0.44/lb. Less than Costco, a lot less than Giant and Safeway Bread, whole wheat/no corn syrup Greek Yogurt, up to $3 less than other stores for a large tub of it Milk, usually $2.50-ish for a gallon Almond milk Refrigerated lemonade Granola, no corn syrup Organic Pasta Sauces, $2-3 less than the other local stores Carrots, usually $0.99 per lb for the baby carrots Salad and Spinach (organic or not) Apples, $2-3 less per bag Pizza, fresh or frozen And here are some of the annoying things: Sometimes there is limited staff, so that means limited restocking and limited on-floor help It can be crowded at times (but the line tends to move) Some shoppers don't understand the concept (still!) of Aldi Limited selection means they might not have what you're looking for Bring your bags, just like at any other store, or buy them there. There are several grocery options in Germantown for every level of shopper and many people are like me and patronize different stores for different items. That being said, you can spend 15 minutes and $25 at Aldi's and get your weekly basics: juice, fruit, eggs, milk, greek yogurt, oatmeal, tomato sauce, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes, blue corn tortilla chips, bread, and maybe some bottled ice coffee. Why would you want to go to Safeway or Giant and spent twice as much for the same stuff. For gas rewards points?? yeah ok. We still go to Safeway for deli meat and greek yogurt ice cream, Lotte for produce and fish, and Wegman's if we're feeling fancy, but Aldi is usually my first stop. read more

First, let me start by pointing out something that is undeniably good. The prices here cannot be beat. I have not seen any store that can come anywhere close to beating Aldi prices. And I would like to love Aldi as a result. But there are also some undeniable drawbacks to shopping here. This store is much smaller than most area grocery stores. As a result, the list of things they simply don't carry is immense. For example, I have yet to see 1% milk in the dairy area. Much of the store is also taken up by non-grocery items. For example, in the middle of the store on last visit, there was an aisle near the center of the store containing, among other things, gardening equipment. I love to garden and I think it's great for a grocery store to offer more than just groceries. Provided that they have space for it. Aldi--or at least this Aldi--does not have the space to spare. This space could be better used to increase the variety of their food offerings. Customer service is also sparse. In my last visit, my cashier at checkout went back into the storage area to find a frozen product that I could not find. Kudos to her. She was great. Everyone I have dealt with at the store has been very good, but there are simply too few of them. It would have been much better if I could have found a sales floor associate to ask about that item I could not find instead of making the cashier leave her post and forcing everyone behind me to wait in line. The store also seems continuously dirty and unorganized. Some of this may be due to the way they display merchandise. Unlike most stores, many products are displayed in empty boxes rather than on shelves. That could be fine, but inevitably, items from one box end up in another. Boxes are left out on display after they are empty, or boxes are knocked askew by passing shopping carts. Again, having more staffing on the floor could really help with this problem. I will probably continue to stop by here if I need a single item or if I am just looking for a few things I know they carry. But my main grocery store is still going to be Wegmans. The prices are higher, but only slightly. And they carry what I'm looking for. read more

My friend once told me a great story about a friend's obedient child, who ratted them out to the other parent. At about 1 AM, the kid went to Dad and reported: "Mom and Julie are sneakin' junk! Annnnnnd it's past their bedtime!" The kid blew their cover; they were noshin' on chips, ice cream and pop tarts. The one detail my friend left out of the story was that they prolly went on a run to an Aldi's before that night's festivities commenced. Although this is a college freshman's dream--ramen, cookies, sugary cereals--there are so many organic options of those choices. While they might not be the healthiest options, one could at least claim they weren't raping the environment with their purchases. I got two packs of Dole Broccoli (cheaper than Trader Joe's), a jug of cashews, and organic popcorn. Total cost $14 and some change. One thing though, the meat seemed suspect. Well, they sell a gallon of milk for 1.50. I've been shopping here for 4 years and I've never looked back. I used to coupon to save money but Aldi is like couponing every week. Their food is very good with the exception of sometimes iffy produce as in I've had onions and potatoes rot very fast. I've never been a big fan, but I'm heading for the dark side now. The more I shop at Aldi's, the more I like it. I'm not a name-brand snob, but the unknown makes me hesitate a bit. I started going in for the pizza - first had it at a church function and it was pretty good. Learned it was $5/pie, that made it even better! I bought a very large cheese pizza for $5 - any larger and I'd have to get a bigger oven. My two teens like it, so I have to consider it a winner. (There's not an overwhelming variety of pizza flavors, so you don't waste a lot of time deliberating, which is another type of savings if you want to look at it that way.) They also sell a southwestern flatbread that we really like, and it's also incredible inexpensive. All in all, I'll be spending more at Aldi's and less elsewhere. While standing in the checkout line, I found myself in the gardening aisle - that was unexpected. But I found the perfect garden gnome that I didn't know I needed, just $8. YAY! That's really all there is to say. When I really had to tighten my budget, I found this place and wondered why I hadn't been here before. They're not a regular huge grocery store chain so don't come in here expecting to find everything you do at Giant, Safeway, etc...but if you live off of "basics" which I do, then Aldi has everything you need. Quick check out and if you're lucky you'll get a friendly cashier. They only accept debit cards or cash (as far as I know) and you need a quarter for your shopping cart and your own grocery bags. The strategy they use makes sense and it helps to keep cost down. I can fill my cart (overflowing) for about $100 and that feeds me for a few weeks. LOVE THIS PLACE! read more

This store is very basic, good quality, and great prices. I read ingredients before I buy anything, and I'm able to find a lot of short list ingredient foods here. They have an excellent selection of bacon in my opinion. The shopping carts require a quarter deposit that you get back when you return the cart. They have high quality reusable shopping begs for a lot less than places like giant or Wegmans. The checkers move fast and you must bag your own stuff on the counter near the exit. Early morning can be the best time for a quick in and out trip. Weekends are always busy. Some of the selection here is based on supply. Things like virgin coconut oil is the best price I've ever found at 4.50 a jar compared to 9.99 for the same size at other store. The problem is they sell out fast so you must stock up or you are out of luck. The store is small but they have a great gluten free selection. If you go in with an open mind you can find some great things here. read more

I was a familiar with ALDI before it became Germantown bound. I lived in the Midwest for a time where ALDI locations were abundant and they were usually in the less desirable location/neighborhoods. Then again, it seems like Germantown is becoming more less desirable the longer I live here and the change in population culture. That's another story. Anyhow, the low down of ALDI is this: -prices seem to fluctuate weekly with 10-50 cent increases in price, which remain -unknown origin of food products that say "distributed by ALDI Inc." -a lot of processed foods -generic brands, some name (U.S.) brands available -ALWAYS check the expiration dates on EVERYTHING -tastes of products are way off or just "different." -fellow shoppers who are savages -25 cents to use and return a cart -limited hours -debit card transactions, no credit -produce limited, but reasonably priced I limit my shopping to produce, toiletries and eggs. I will sometimes splurge and try a new item, get some blue corn tortilla chips or a bread item. ALDI has good prices for the budget conscious who indulge in processed foods and don't mind generic brands. read more

I've been shopping at Aldi for a couple years and am a fan. The down side is the lack of selection. But the deals - good prices make up for that loss. They rarely have name brands but the "Fit & Active" dairy items are all as good as any name brand. You do need to check the produce as it is sometimes second rate. I NEVER buy bananas there as they always seem to be bruised even if I can't tell at the time. I buy all my dairy and bread items there, but not very much produce. The snack goods and staples are good deals and good quality. The meats are generally good although the prices are not much better than sale prices at regular grocery stores. Remember to bring a quarter to get a shopping cart. This is their system for keeping the carts in order. Give them a try and save some money! read more

If i could 0 stars i would!!!! Amidst the pandemic we're all trying to stay healthy and clean, this GERMANTOWN aldi is not. The quince Orchard location is doing an excellent job at having an attendant cleaning the carts and making sure they're counting number of customers in the store. When i went to this GERMANTOWN location they had no attendant at the carts cleaning them and still had the coin-lock system in place. The cart I had no choice to get was FILTHY. Used gloves, used tissues and wipes in the inside of the cart. Absolutely disgusting. Due to the coin-lock system, i couldn't get another cart and just used a reusable bag that i brought to hold the food i was getting. After shopping, at checkout i let the cashier (im not sure if he was a manager) know that my cart was filthy when i got it and his response was "oh we're supposed to have someone out there cleaning i dont know where he is" and proceeded to throw all of the food in the filthy cart (even though the bag was wide open, enough to throw the food in there.) i was astonished by his response. THIS GERMANTOWN LOCATION NEEDS TO GET CLEANING PROCEDURES UNDER CONTROL. Im not one to leave reviews but this is unacceptable. I wish i took a picture to post, but i was shocked. read more

I went to buy a few groceries and a gift card for my nephew who was just married. I think I had been there once before but it had been a while. They have a nice selection of organics and the prices are great. There was an issue with their system so I had problems with the gift card. Love this place, other than the occasional line to check out you can't beat the prices on produce. For me it's worth it. No it's not a full grocery store but for normal items it works and saves me money. Aldi is awesome! I love this store and will admit I was once a skeptic. My Dad kept telling me what great deals he was getting and thought, "sure but it's all low-end seconds." So, when this store opened in Germantown, I started buying just the staples, dried goods like rolled oats, baking soda and nuts. Gradually, I branched out and tried a bag of their sweet potatoes (3lbs/.99), happy farms almond milk, a dark chocolate hazelnut bar and have been really impressed. Now I regularly buy those items plus their artisan lettuce, condiments, kitty food and litter and many of their special buys. Over time I've come to realize that what I once perceived as Aldi's greatest weakness (lack of selection,) is what I've come to appreciate most about this store. I love not getting bogged down in comparing a bunch of different brands, especially for staples. It makes for a much quicker, more pleasant, not to mention less pricey, shopping experience. Plus, it's fun to see what special buys they offer every week! I will reserve this review to just the food. Having come from a manufacturing background, all products that we know as "major" brands are named differently in different States, also there are only 1 or 2 manufacturers of products nationwide, and from there they are "private labeled" for different stores. Aldi's is no different. There Milleville (cereal) is exactly like their "name brand" counter parts...their catsup is actually delivered in a "Heinz" labeled box. Agreed the meat selection is not big, however if meat is on the "red box special" of the week it is a great value. They have seasonal items which you will wont to snatch up. I find the selection to be just fine. Any veggies I can't find at Aldi's I get at Lotties (asian market). The store is clean and very organized. The employees couldn't be more friendly. Their ice cream rivals the best available. There prices can't be beat. Who doesn't want to save money on groceries, check the parking lot...high and less expensive cars. I find we have become "programmed" to think just the name brands are superior...not true. However Aldi's now carries Pampers, Coke brand, V8 and so many other products you might see anywhere else. Roth-Moser chocolate bars with chili! 5 small, individually wrapped bars inside a package for $1.99! Yum! A friend who's from Mexico had me purchase 2 packages for her. She thought she hid them from her husband. She just got 1 of the 10 bars! Prices for the things I buy are reasonable. If you are expecting help at the butcher counter or dairy counter, you are at the wrong store. The aisles are fairly wide. If I'm going in for just a few items, and in a hurry, I will sometimes skip the shopping cart. Many people seem to buy most if not all of their groceries there. If I could find the right time to go (when there are shoppers there), it would be much easier. Some of the non-food items are also interesting, and are sometimes a good deal. I would still come back at least occasionally for the Roth-Moser chocolate even if they had nothing else. Go elsewhere for canned soup. It was so awful I had to dump it down the drain! read more

I decided to swing by after a trip to Michaels. I've always planned on coming here after hearing so many great things about their organic product. It was an in and out trip for us, though. Coming here reminded me why humans are being replaced with machines in so many consumer heavy retailers. I understand your life long career intentions did not include ringing up my groceries, but my grocery shopping intentions did not include dealing with such a nasty attitude at check out. The way this human spoke to me with such bitterness and sass I was appalled. She literally rung up my groceries and threw them in a cart, she didn't even put them in a bag...The bag I provided!
