People are in a hurry at morning hours for many reasons. Not enough cashiers in the morning. Many morning without forks or containers at breakfast bar. Self checkout never opens in the morning, sometime they weren't open even after 11am. It sucks I have no choice but to come here for the past 4 months and I'll probably continue to come here because there's nothing else nearby. I hope your management step up their game and make it worth our time to come and spend money with you. read more

Worst experience I have ever had in grocery store and then when called store manager, Tony this morning to complain he not once tried to compensate me for my horrible experience. He said what can I do for you I said perhaps some kind of compensation for having to go through this and just sat there on phone not offering anything. I mentioned it again and I said well you are obviously not going to do anything to make it right and he says ok so I hang up. I had come in and got necessary groceries I HAD to have that night. was going to pick up an old doggie from surgery and needed special food. Self check out and check would not clear. I have $6k in the checking. Young man at check out does not know what he is doing so Erwin manager comes over. He does not know state of MD code and has to go find someone. All this time I am getting closer to the vet closing. He finally gets code, check still not accepted. Gives me 800 # to call. This has NEVER happened to me prior. Ask him to keep groceries, go out to car and call number, (check fraud or something) ,they say nothing wrong in their system and it is with glitch in HT probably go back and try again for fourth time. I can't! have to get dog before vet closes. Come back after settling puppy in bed and take boyfriend (daughter has my atm card) so he can witness and pay if he has to do so. Don't want to use credit cards for this. Erwin tries again no good then he gets bright idea to try another cashier stand and it goes right through. Geez. As a manager you don't think they are trained to trouble shoot. So he goes to get my groceries in freezer and he looks for my receipt and someone had thrown it out because he did not take it to customer service but left it at self service. I have to take out ALL MY GROCERIES and re-ring them. Not once did Erwin or Tony today ask if they could compensate me somehow for all this mess. May never go back. The selection here pales in comparison to what I've seen in other stores. The salad bar is much smaller with a smaller variety of ingredients to choose from. The Asian "inspired" lunch bar is just a bunch of fried foods. The sushi is (sometimes) fresh, but they only seem to sell the $13 packs - rather than a lunch-sized serving and again, variety is a little lacking compared to other stores. The sandwich lines take FOREVER, and the selection from the pizza bar is either cold and/or lacking - like two different kinds of pizza - compared to the usual 5 or 6 that the other stores in Bethesda have. Overall the store is just much, much smaller and the variety/freshness just isn't to up to par with what I expect from them. It's not well organized and seems sort of dingy/dirty. Plus, make sure you get there at an hour when the apartment renters aren't all using the spots in the garage. read more

We were treated very rudely by 2 different employees today. First, the butcher refused to cut the lamb the way we wished. Second, the self-serve cash registers were messed up, only 2 working, and neither register would accept cash. The cashier supervising those registers decided that she would rather assist all the customers who were in line behind us first, before accepting our cash payment. read more

Update: for some strange reason I decided to give this place another chance... and nothing has changed. Purchased Perdue chicken breast this morning and the second I cut into the raw chicken I can immediately tell it it is old or hasn't been refrigerated appropriately. The chicken was tough; chicken breast should not be tough and hard to cut when raw. Oh and the expiration date is not until 5 days from now.... I never have this issue with Perdue chicken anywhere else, not even Walmart.... Giant is literally 3 blocks away and will be having all of my business from now on. I highly suggest going to giant instead, at least until Harris teeter gets its act together -------------------------------------------------- I use to love this store but as I've become a regular I've noticed more and more how much the management is always trying to save a buck at the expense of the customer. First off, regarding their dairy products, I've given up on buying organic milk here, at least on 4-5 occasions I go to pick up a gallon and it's expired or expiring the next day; same goes for their large container greek yogurts. I've also purchased breyers and halo top pint ice cream just to come home and realized that the ice cream has thawed out and been refrozen prior to leaving the store. In addition I recently purchased chicken breast 5 days before expiration, and when I opened the package (on the same day I purchased) at home it was clearly old chicken. (I only eat chicken, I can tell immediately if chicken is past it's expiration date due to the texture) I question the integrity of the management of this store; I have to wonder what else they are willing to do to earn a buck. Never been to a Harris Teeter before or since my one trip to this one. Seems like a Whole Foods, but less pretentious, which I like. This place is awesome. I used to be a big anti-Harris Teeter because I thought they were just so overpriced and gourmet but since recently moving to the apartments in the Crown it has been a huge convenience to shop here. While they are expensive in some products, they have great specials happening all the time and if you have a VIC card you save a lot of money. I always look online before doing my big grocery shopping to see what is worth it and what I should just by across the street at Giant. It's amazing the deals they have, sometimes I wonder if it was a mistake. For example the other day the had "Buy three, get two free" on Bertolli pasta sauce. Really? Luckily I snagged the last couple good sauces. If I see a product that I know is not worth it, I don't stress and just buy somewhere else. It is helpful for example when I forgot the jalapenos for my chili and I was able to walk to buy it. Also the reason why they got the fifth star is because the staff here is awesome, they are friendly and genuinely seem to care. Some places you go like Giant or Safeway and the staff isn't all that interested in helping you or just doing it because they have to. Here at Harris Teeter, I don't feel like asking for help is a nuisance to them. The Harris Teeter products (non-name brand) are decent, we also got a welcome goodie back when we moved into Crown so we got to try some of their products like noodles, pasta, tortilla chips, and salsa. The chips and salsa were alright, the pasta and sauce were not bad. I wasn't fond of their hot bar for the Asian part (this should be a duh...Asian food in a restaurant) but the rest is good along with the salad bar and pizza. This is a good place for when I don't feel like cooking they also have pre made meals that you just either stick in the over or steam. Place is also 24 hrs which is awesome and helped my fiancée out on Mother's Day (sneaking out to buy roses to have out the next morning). read more

The store itself is clean and organized. The pharmacy is horrible. They do not follow up and their customer service is horrendous. I will never use this pharmacy again and will be switching over to Target. I also wish the store had a place to sit so that you can wait for your ride or taxi. I've seen benches at other stores. This store is conveniently located and usually has what I'm looking for; however, some serious training is needed for their staff. The cashiers/baggers are constantly putting the bread in the same bag with the milk; or the eggs in with the canned goods. Also, I've been here multiple times and had the cashiers/baggers carelessly toss/throw my produce into the bag. What is the point of trying to find the non-bruised fruit, if it's going to be bruised by the staff before leaving the store? Someone please help these people! read more

I got lazy and instead of driving a few more miles to go to Whole Foods, I went to the closest one: Harry Teeter (which is by the way very often more expensive than Whole Foods. Just saying....) I did my grocery shopping (probably around $100.00) and proceeded to the cashiers.....I almost choked when I saw the scene. The scene: Giant before a snow storm. That's exactly how it looked. Two cashiers with lines for both of them of 5 or 6 customers with cars full to the top. So I went to the self cashiers (not crazy about them because why would I pay top price and still do their job?) It was even worst there. At least 25 peoples waiting. I talked to an employee asking him how come there were only two cashiers with a crowd waiting to check out, and he sighed and told me "I know Ma'am" with a resigned voice. So I just left my cart, and drove to Whole Foods. I did my grocery shopping and was checked out in two minutes. Still mad about the time lost for nothing, I called the manager of Harris Teeter to tell him that it showed a total lack of respect for his customers to be so under staffed. His answer was precious: "It's only on Mondays!" So people who shop there on Mondays, just know that the management has no respect for you and your time even though they do expect to be over busy and they still decide to be totally under staffed. He also told me that he could give me something if I come back.... Sorry Dude my time is precious and I have no time to waste waiting because your store wants to save some bucks but not having the staff who is needed. You got me once.... We ordered a pizza on Monday night (sale price is $7.99), it results in raw dough on the side. We called the manager and it seems the manager is not appreciated what we reported. And he hang up the phone on us. We will never come back to order pizza with this store again. And this is not happened only one time. We came back to order it since it's a cheap price on Monday. Perfect place to go after a workout from the LA fitness club next door. The produce department is my favorite place in the store. There are so many fresh fruits; Fuji and honey crisp apples, navel oranges, red grapes, strawberries, mangos, pears, grapefruits. All are awesome. I always use the self-checkout. Went in to pick up a few things.. Was looking for Folgers Black Silk coffee and a few other benign things. I walked thru the store, Picked up some onions, saw the Seafood Dept..and YUM!!!! They have little neck clams!!! I didn't have my glasses on, so I had to stare REALLLLL close and was trying to figure out how much they cost!. Went from there to find the coffee I needed and went up to pay at the Self Checkout. I had a few problems with my onions (not sure why, I did). An employee, came by, fixed the problem, and I paid, and was on my way. I was in their store for approx 10minutes and NOT ONE employee said anything to me. Earlier today I picked up a catering order for my sons birthday. I got food from them last year and loved it. The manager was so kind, all I did was walk up to the meat dept and they had all my food together and they even gave me a free bag of ice. This time around I didn't receive an email stating that my food was ready and when I went to the meat dept like I previously did there was confusion about what food I ordered. The kind guy who helped me finally called over who I assume was a manager and told me I needed to go to each dept to pick up what I needed. Had I known that I would've done that but from my previous experience all my food was together which makes more sense. She then said "I mean I could go get it for you if you can't" really? I'm spending over 150 dollars on food for an event and you're giving me an attitude? I had no problem doing it there was just no clear direction.. On top of it all the pin wheel roll ups I had did not have the proper top and would not stay on. The lady at checkout told me to go to customer service to grab tape. I waited in line behind a customer for the person working the customer service desk who was MIA. I quickly asked her if I could just borrow the masking tape sitting on the counter to tape the lid on properly and she told me "hold on". No problem, even though I was already running late trying to figure out where all my food was I could wait another 30 seconds. Not the case, as soon as she finished with the man in front of me she COMPLETELY ignored me and helped the person behind me!! When she saw how pissed I was she walked over and grabbed the SCOTCH tape which wouldn't have done shit for the lid. I immediately left not giving a damn if the pin wheels fell off the tray. The service is horrible here. On my way to my sons party 10 of the roll ups fell out bc the improper tray. Btw 20 mins after picking up the food I received a message that my food was ready. I went Tuesday, January 3 to pu a fruit and cheese platter an veggie platter. From past experience , I went to the deli to pu the platters. I ask the worker if this is where you pu orders. She pointed toward the end of the counter and called out to a worker name Elena, Whe I got there I told her my name, she came out with a tray that looked like it was upside down. I could not see from the top what it was. I said to her I ordered a cheese and fruit platter. She said smartly this is the cascade you ordered. I was somewhat confused because I couldn't see what was on the tray. She was not very nice gave me a fake smile. I walked away frustrated. I had to go to produce to pu the veggie tray. The worker was pleasant and told me not to turn it over, just remove the tray that covers the veggies. That mean I served this in the lid. Never heard such a thing. But at least she was pleasant. When I went to check out I was frustrated and didn't feel like looking for the vic card in my purse, I told the cashier what happened and that I will never buy from Harris Teeter again. She said to please come back, and that she understood that one would want to see what they purchased before they pay for it. I told her that at Giant you can pu your deli, fruit, veggie at one counter and you can see what your order looks like. When I got to work 30 minutes later we started setting up. The fruit and cheese was terrible, the sliced apples were turning brown, the cheese smelled awful and tasted very bad. I asked when I order bout crackers, she said yes you do get crackers. There were none. There were few strawberries , the cantaloupe was soggy. I hated to put it out. The veggie platter, we decided to turn it over. It was just ok. I have shopped at Harris Teeters many times, but this service by far was the very worst, I spend over $90 and have had to throw most of it out. No more for me. read more

The store is good for meeting your basic grocery needs, but I would avoid the deli if there is any line whatsoever. They attract a lot of customers, and have no system in place to identify customers who come first. I watched three people come after me, and get served before me. A ticket/number system would serve this deli wonders. read more

LOVE This new Harris Teeter! We live near QOHS, so the "old" Harris Teeter on 28 is probably closer for us, but we have been shopping at this new location because it's so nice, with helpful, friendly staff and super fresh veggies & produce! Sometimes prices are a bit higher than Giant or Safeway, but to ensure that all of my food will be fresh, I am ok paying a little more :) Their salad bar, pizza, and sushi are awesome too! read more

I just had an experience with the deli department in this place that left me fuming. The guy who took care of me, Chris, gave me Boar's Head products without asking me what I wanted. When I saw what he did I asked why he did that without offering me the store brand. He became quite surly so I told him not to worry about it. As I walked away he ran after me with a package of something that was not at all what I asked for but carrying the store brand. He snatched one but not both of the Boar's Head products he had given me, threw it in my cart and walked away mad. This ain't what I am looking for in the way of customer service and I doubt I will ever go back to this store again. read more

Normally, I try not to give a rating this low to anyone. I guess Wegmans has spoiled me. Departments such as Sushi and Sandwich should have posted hours. During your operating hours, unless the STORE is out of bread, please don't tell people you are out of bread. That is not only odd, but ludicrous! Customer service will try to straighten this out. They offered to have a sandwich made for me, but by then, I was no longer interested. In addition, since the store has an eating area, they should also have a water fountain nearby and recycling bins for customer convenience. I love this store. I went here the third day of moving to the area. Beat customer service I've had in a grocery store. The lay out made sense other than frozen items all day way away from groceries but I could still navigate the store well. Everyone I passed that worked in the store asked me if I was finding everything OK or asked if I needed assistance. The check out was friendly and efficient. I typically bag my groceries myself even through a regular checkout and the cashiers tend to go too fast but every time I've gone they have been quick but not too quick that I can't keep up.
