I typically use the Giant on Arlington Road. While it's not perfect (cramped parking lot, slow checkout), they always have everything I need and produce that rivals, and sometimes exceeds, Whole Foods. The first time I went to "The Teet" about a week ago I was in heaven. Most of my favorite products were there-- parking was a breeze, checkout lightning fast, and the store was well-designed, making everything quick and easy. Not so this morning. At 8:30am the day after Labor Day, the store was not in good shape. Stock was low on many items. Bananas were gone. As in not one single banana. The nice produce guy told me they were awaiting a truck shipment. Really? Bananas? I literally got the last of other products, including my preferred milk or yogurt, which means someone later today might be disappointed. The checkout situation was not cool. One person checking out. And about a dozen employees buzzing around the store, including the director of the store. They all walked happily past the long line of visibly annoyed patrons. Nothing. No offer to open another checkout lane. Stella, the incredibly sweet checkout worker in my lane, signaled for the manager. Who looked up, saw the long line, and asked "Yes? What do you need?" Really?? Isn't it obvious?? OPEN ANOTHER LANE! Customers were like "Yeah, I can just do this myself." But no. Self-checkout was closed. Why? Because on Tuesday mornings the computers need to reboot, an excuse one of the workers gave. Really? You're a 24 hour operation. Couldn't you have done that at 2am last night? I will probably give The Teet a few more chances. But what I thought would be major competition for the Bethesda Giant may in fact not be the game changer I was hoping it would be. Huge selection, great layout, check out is always quick. Starbucks on the top floor is nice.

Very proactive and friendly staff! Wide selection of groceries and found somethings that other stores don't carry (sabatino truffle Mac & cheese). Fresh tuna and snapper were excellent. Freshness of veggies only ok. In terms of quality and selection, Harris teeter is a step up from giant and Safeway, yet not as good as Whole Foods (nor as expensive). read more

I was initially very excited about having the Harris Teeter close by. While they have a lot of options for most of their foods, their produce doesn't seem fresh. More specifically, all the lettuce boxes go bad within the day due to excessive moisture in the containers! I still shop there for basics, but I decided to continue shopping at MOM's, located a few miles further away to get my produce. read more

This new location is a good addition to the bethesda area grocery stores. It is very clean and fresh in the store. Good shopping experience with some free samples and cordial workers. They have a good selection of meats and cheeses. Only complaints are the produce section isn't super interesting and a little small and the self-checkout counters have a lot of glitches. read more

The pharmacy is over the top customer service oriented. I was having trouble with my primary provider for a very expensive controlled medication. They could not get it to me in time. My doctor wrote me prescription for a week, even tho I thought I would only need a couple of days. I explained the issue to the pharmacist and she said she would order it all, but I could buy just a couple of days and come back if I needed more. She said she could sell it one day at a time if I needed it. Much more work for them, but so helpful. Another time I got the 65+ flu shot. Treated very professionally. I mentioned that I was going to get my husband in in 2 days. She said she had a limited supply But would put it aside for me.Last year I had had to try 3 places to get it. read more

Thursday last week I went to this store didn't realize until the next day that they didn't even take of the sale price of my salmon so I pay full price. I am usually a great fan of Harris Teeter. This was my first and LAST visit ever to this particular store. I placed a catering order online of 2 platters. The gentleman got my first platter, and I immediately told him it was not the right platter. However in the interest of time, I said I would take it. My second platter...was lost, not created...I'm not quite sure. The produce guy tried to make it right by creating it. Forty minutes later, I asked a staff member to check on the status and finally they found my original order. It may be a shiny new store, but they have a lot to go for customer service. Today I went to Harris Teeter (Battery Ln)at the first time , and was so pleasantly surprised: clean, bright, nice, the staff is so friendly. I needed to buy flowers and florist Carmalita kindly offered us help and did everything we ordered in a few minutes! Has told, as it is possible to personalize bouquets (We have bought 3 bouquets). We are very pleased with what respect and skill they treated us. Huge thanks! And I want to say about the most kind and generous manager John. He treated us with tangerines. It is very nice! I love Harris Teeter. This is a fairly new one in a hot location. There's an underground parking in a garage which btw is free for 2 hours (yesss). The spots are nice and big but it can be kind of tight to drive around. I've personally never had an issue and I drive a larger SUV but I could see if some ran into a little tightness. To be fair, I usually come around lunch hour and a few times around 5 PM. Anyway, the inside has your standard HT things including a Starbucks and a salad bar which is usually great and my go to lunch if I have no leftovers. It is a bit smaller than most HT but overall, I think most would find what they need. It's clean and I haven't had to wait a long time to self check out. For the space they bought, I think they used their space well and efficiently. My mom loves this HT as well. read more

I was basically shooed away from the Hot Bar when browsing because I was holding food from the Asian Bar. Employee near the Hot Bar told me that the Asian Hot Bar was "a different company" and "we don't get paid" in regards to it. Apparently some third-party company brings in the Asian Bar food? The pharmacy was so nice and clean.,I took my kids here for flu shots and the pharmacist was very professional and nice and it was so easy. They can even send records to our pediatrician so their medical records are complete. They did not take my insurance but they Mugabe me a 25 dollar coupon for a promo special for each one so the first 25 dollar coupon went to the cost of the second shot, and the second 25 dollar coupon I used on groceries. Each shot cost me 9.95 out of pocket not using insurance.,a complete breeze. read more

I live walking distance and gave them a couple of weeks to settle in after opening. I figured it would be a crowded nightmare. I was wrong. I think that overall their prices are higher, but they have amazing sale specials on specific items, so I experimented by focusing on those. Mostly I shopped off a list I'd already made using their online store specials. It would be helpful if the sales item list was organized based on the store layout, but I found everything eventually. They're open 24 hours, which I did not realize, and their extras like the pizza and hot foods bar look tasty. It's nice to have a full grocery nearby that is not the wretched basement Safeway. Only (mild) complaint is that the carts are ENORMOUS relative to the size of the aisles; is that standard? I say this as a person shopping for a large family. It's hard to maneuver, and I can't imagine doing it if the store were busy. read more

I have been waiting over a year for this grocery store to open. So it was with real anticipation that I started shopping here the week that it opened. Let me start by saying that my idea of a 5 star grocery store is Wegmans's, specifically the one I know in Frederick. Between the customer service, the selection, and the prices I just don't think it can be beat. Having said that I give this Harris Teeter a 3 star rating. Its by far the best we have in downtown Bethesda, unfortunately, that's not saying to much. The staff are very friendly, but a little clueless as to what to do when I asked them about an item that was marked on sale but not on the shelf. Because this store is so new I am willing to overlook some problems with regard to staff being a little unsure of themselves. Later while I was shopping the supervisor came looking for me in the store to see if she could be of assistance. That was outstanding. The selection of grocery items is far better than at either the Safeway or Giant in Bethesda and the store, having just opened, is spotless. The prices on non-sale items are significantly more expensive than I usually pay by at least 10-20% on name brands (those that are not the Harris Teeter brand name.) However, the biggest disappointment was the meat and poultry section which, frankly just do not have a lot of selections available. Very little in the way of organic poultry selection and again what was available was about 20% more than I paid at Wegman's. The produce looks good not great. Again, not a huge organic selection. Check out was a snap and the women at the service desk was extremely helpful to all the customers at the self check out. Last quibble and note for folks with mobility problems, I came in the Wisconsin Ave entrance where there was a ramp leading to the front doors going in to Starbucks. As you open the door your are now faced with a choice down 7 or 8 stairs to the Starbucks in one direction or 5-6 stairs to get to the elevator! What design genius thought of this?
