Unfortunately, one smug employee ruined that experience for me, and I'll now be switching my allegiance to Ace. I purchased a small $6 shower accessory. Unfortunately I lost the receipt. The accessory was not what I needed, and I attempted to return it. The employee stated I cannot return without a receipt, even for a store credit (I was going to purchase products worth more than the value of what I was returning). I was disappointed at this response, but I shopped for what I needed anyway. I went to the front, and the employee was helping another customer in an aisle. After helping that customer, she proceeded to another customer in the aisle. Now, I understand one person having to triage, but at that point a simple acknowledgement of me would have been nice. It felt intentional, and it seemed as if the employee was taking satisfaction, acting somewhat smug as she told me she won't accept a return without a receipt. Not sure if this is just one rude employee, or the owner is really this strict about returns on $6 items that are clearly unused, but either way, I seriously doubt I'll be doing business here any more. If you had or have a similar experience, I also encourage you to drop these clowns. (Incidentally, when I purchased the item I would eventually return, I was not asked for my phone number (which they generally use to text receipts, as I'm part of their "customer club" or whatever. So there is actually another mess-up by a different employee that could have accommodated the companies own draconian return policy.) In short, I go to a neighborhood spot like this for the service. And when I'm treated this way, it defeats the purpose of avoiding much more convenient and likely cheaper options like Ace or Amazon. You are not really selling hardware - you should be trying to offer a superior customer experience--remember that and you will not lose customers like this

Once inside, I was able to find the aisle I needed to be in - each aisle had a sign showing some of the items within that aisle. Once I viewed the locks they had, which were many choices, I finally settled on one and went to pay at the register. There was a customer already in line, but since I only had 1 item, they allowed me to purchase my item ahead of their purchase. So nice. After getting the item, I noticed the package might be a bit difficult to open and asked the employee if there was something to use to open it and without hesitation, they opened it for me, which I certainly appreciated. Overall, I got what I needed and great service was provided.

When I applied the paint to the wall, instead of being China White, a standard color, it showed up as being very yellow. I went back to the store and was told that because they had to mix the base to create the standard correct color, they would have to charge me again. Bottom line, I went to another Benjamin Moore paint shop and they mixed the paint perfectly. Poorly maintained or dirty equipment might have been the cause. Howard

The manager came out and stopped me as I was getting into my vehicle, just to make sure that I realized that I had purchased a "deep base" paint, (which would have been completely wrong for this project). It was really nice of him to catch that, because I never noticed. Then he took me back in the store, and made the exchange, even covering the cost of the difference (the correct paint was a couple dollars more). You just don't see that these days. Somebody taking the time to pay that much attention, where I was negligent, bring it to my attention, and then actually take less money - to make the exchange quicker and more convenient for me. It's hard for me to remember not to just run to the "big orange" store every time I need something in the shop, or around the house. But this is just a little reminder, that there is a much better option.

They have a great selection of kitchenwares, all the cast iron you could ever want, even rice cookers and crock pots... and their prices are very reasonable. I also loved the birdfeeders- they had two story options even- and the wide variety of crafty stuff- gorilla glue, etc. etc. And that's just the girly stuff :) I could have spent hours in here. And I'm sure my husband could too. He was more interested in the guns, ammo, tools, fishing equipment... you get the idea. Truly one of the last of the great hardware stores. Most of these Ace stores are individually operated under the Ace franchise and shows the energy and customer service that you'd see in the past when the local hardware store was the familiar face of a town. Always well staffed with friendly & knowledgeable workers who are very polite & will say hello & offer assistance when you enter the store. The store itself has been there for decades with an old school appearance inside & out. It's amazing how much stuff is in the store & I've often found items that are not always in other big box stores. The largest item I've needed & purchased at Greens Ace was a natural gas grill that was comparatively priced & offered free assembly & delivery to my home. Very convenient, since it was a heavier, bulkier item & therefore much appreciated. If you sign up for their free s & Ace buyer rewards, you'll get a lot of money saving coupons (e.g. recent $5 off $20 or more purchase) and rewards coupon for $5 or more. Nice to be able to recognize the same local faces & actually see the owner working in the store.
