Such a cool little hidden gem in Middletown! I didn't even know this place existed…read more I don't really know what to call Surreybrooke but it is a beautiful manor with grounds, a garden center, and venue area. The manor is marked as private even though it is visible from other parts of the property. You can definitely see the growth of the plants over the decades of time but this is something so unusual to see in this area and that in itself is truly spectacular. Take 20 minutes to stroll through this place, you may find that you end up staying a bit longer.

They really do have pretty much all your gardening needs covered, including pots, soil, fertilizer, landscaping supplies, etc. I especially like visiting at spring planting time. They have three widest range of varieties of tomatoes, peppers, both sold individually or in marketpacks of four. The same is true for their flowers...shade loving and sunloving perennials too. It's not a huge place but it packs in a lot! It's my favorite garden place to visit in the area.

I have been buying here for many years but it's time to find a different nursery. Came in during…read morethe week and the staff to guest ratio was at least 5 staff to each customer...I wanted a tree that was too heavy for me to lift at roughly 70 pounds and literally none of the staff walking around offered to help. When I asked for help locating the tree, I was pointed to the other side of the nursery, but no thought to if I might either need help locating the trees or help lifting the container.

I planned on doing all of the adventure stuff that my friend and I could fit in, but it rained for two days nonstop. We decided to make the most of our time here and ended up going to the Caverns since it was an indoor activity. On the way back to our Airbnb, we stopped at Mountainside Gardens. They had an array of plants that I literally could not help myself. I spoke to Julie, the person working and she was cheerful and very helpful at helping me pick out my new plant babies. She also gave me great advice for overall care and watering them (I tend to over water and kill plants, so fingers crossed that these survive). I also could not resist getting a bowl of cream of crab soup to go along with a snow cone. Both were delicious and everything was a great value. I will be back for more plant babies and to visit Julie again.

The most unique thing about this shop was that they had a did flower bar! There were at least 12 different varieties that you could build a bouquet with! The shop also offers pots, stickers, and other plant care items. I believe the person there was the shop owner but she was super helpful and knowledgeable! The prices here I thought were personally a bit higher than other shops I have been to but I am not as familiar with surrounding stores. For the price though, the quality of the plants were matched so I did not have a problem paying a few bucks more.

We moved into a house last summer and first on my list was handling the yard. The backyard had a…read morelot of bamboo, and throughout the first summer and fall it spread significantly. We attempted to remove some ourselves but were quickly overwhelmed by the task. I researched native plant landscapers and came across Swamp Rose Co-op. After reaching out, Jeff, one of the owners, came to do a site visit. He was thorough in his presentation of plans and this February we had them come and do bamboo removal and plant some native trees and shrubs to act as a privacy screen. The Swamp Rose team was amazing! They pulled out over 2 tons of bamboo and roots! They planted native trees and shrubs which are thriving. Our backyard woodland meadow dreams are coming true. We have the team coming back in a few weeks to rip out the standard plants seen in the Silver Spring area (liriope, lilies, weeds) to replace with a native garden and we can't wait. One of my favorite aspects of this company is it is a co-op. The employees can be owners, and those who aren't are still paid a living wage as calculated by the MIT living wage calculator. They do excellent work! It is hard to find a native landscaper but this team is fantastic.

I had to stop in when I saw they were open during Fire in Ice. I'd been hopefully watching the…read moredeveloping storefront, wondering what was moving in. And I was not disappointed. It's a small space, but there's so much to look at. And I wanted to see every single thing, because it was all so interesting. Here are some of the things they had for sale: live potted plants of various size and variety, pots, individual cut flowers and greenery, decorative plates, local artwork, metal peacocks. I didn't get to spend very long inside, but I'm coming back next weekend to spend some time and money. The prices are reasonable, and the woman at the counter was friendly without feeling pushy. I'm so excited and I hope they open up their hours a bit more, so I can go whenever I feel the urge (which I have a feeling is going to be often). Will add some pictures when I go back.
