But don't let the word hostel scare you. While it's no luxury hotel it's been nice and clean. And it's more expensive than a hostel but there's because an amazing breakfast and dinner are included in the price. They are small dorm hostel style bunkrooms and lots of regular hotel style private rooms. Some have their own bathrooms and some have shared rooms. There is gear room that guests can borrow from which is real handy. And they have guided hikes sometimes and lots of suggestions for activities. And a game room in the basement to go to during quiet hours (this is not a place to come party loudly in your room all night). This is a.place for people who love the outdoors and want to meet new friends. It's run by the AMC which is a non profit so your money is helping out.

There was a beautiful fireplace in the middle of the house with gentle music playing in the background. The room was cozy and clean. The main part of the house is very small but nice with little stocking of the beverage "amenities". First impression of the room was disappointing for several reasons but the main first impression was that it was not cleaned well nor do the owners care if it's cleaned well. The bathroom was the first real impression where a filthy shower mat hung on the towel rack, the hand towel had crust on it and a dried, unwashed blood stain on the comforter. iTrip, who is "managing" this place was very prompt about returning my emails UNTIL I responded to THEIR email asking about my stay. Crickets. I'll include photos. There are plenty of other gorgeous places to stay in Lincoln....don't give your money to Red Sleigh Inn.

Please read about the changes…read more We booked the Red Sleigh Inn seven months ago because we were planning a trip to the area and we love B&Bs and have stayed at many. What attracted us to this facility was its outstanding reputation. However, exactly one week (7/11/22) before we were supposed to arrive, we received an email that Red Sleigh was under new ownership and there were going to be changes. We could not cancel because it was less than 30 days. Here are the changes: 1. Nobody would be at the facility to greet you. Nope, no personal friendly greeting to welcome you like we were used to in the past. They sent you a passcode for the front door and your room. You have to call a property managing company if there is an issue. 2. You receive ONE set of towels per person for stay. We stayed three days and originally only got one washcloth, one hand towel, and one bath towel per person, until we complained and we each got a second set. 3. NO BREAKFAST ANYMORE!!! I guess they left off one B in B&B. They did give us a voucher of $20 a day for the Moon Cafe to get a small breakfast. I do not know if this service is going to continue. We got it because we booked before the change. The room was clean. There was a coffee station and candy station which were kept full by attendants who showed up daily to clean vacated rooms. If you like the AirBnB experience while sharing the facility with other couples, then by all means enjoy. We prefer the true B&B experience with the home cooked breakfast and somebody there to greet you.

We had our choice of 6 different homemade jams, I didn't know lavender and peony could be that delicious. Lovely morning on their screened in porch overlooking their blossoming garden. The property was easy to find and a quick drive to a wedding we were attending. We will have to return in the fall to try their homemade cider, and are excited to make pancakes using the recipe from their website so we can try the maple syrup they sent home with us!

Being that this is a perfect place for a very secluded getaway, he gives you your space when you need it. However he and his wife are attentive to detail and readily available when asked upon. The location itself is stunning and the cabin was warm and cozy despite some frigid temperatures. If you plan on cooking keep in mind that there is only a mini fridge and microwave. So you will need to use the grill which does have a burner. But we loved this and grilled every night! We would highly recommend this to a couple just looking for a romantic getaway. I know it was October, the end of the season. but I still expected the cabin to be clean. The bathroom mirror was a mess and the baseboard had a season's worth of hair and dust from other guests. There were unwashed coffee cups and a big smear on the picture window. It was disappointin. Breakfasts were tolerable, melon the best part. Under the prior ownership, the lodge cooked custom breakfasts with the best muffins ever (fond memories of French puff and raspberry muffins), not a lukewarm buffet. We had dinner for 6 there one night and it was a debacle. Service could not have been worse. One fellow ordered an appetizer as his main course and it was dellivered to the center of the table for people to share. Plates came out at random so some people ate while others waited. One friend and I waited more than a hour while everyone else finished their dinners. We finally got our two dinners as one of our party finished his dessert. The timing was the worst I've ever experienced. The waitress was incompetent and had to be reminded to bring anything we needed. The dining experience was so wretched that I don't even remember the food. The cold lack of hospitality, the state of our cabin, and the at best mediocrity of our dining has led us to find another place to stay when we visit. We can do better and pay less.

We chose to sit in the living room where the records were playing out of. And the cocktail menu was unique and amazing. We took in the room and the vibe. It was lovely. The Munch paintings on the wall. The books casually laid about that were epic flip throughs. Then the tastings. We moved back up our assigned table and we were served like 10 different tastings. It started with oysters, then vegetables, a fish pairing, more vegetables from their garden, and another meat and three deserts! Now without getting into specifics it was full of local flavors so exquisitely combined. We didn't even do the alcohol pairings, but the food stood alone. It was fabulous. The chef did an amazing job. If you get a chance, the service, the environment, the drink, and the food was amazing. Highly recommend!!!

Last weekend I attended a writing workshop in Maine. I signed up late, so while all the other…read moreattendees stayed at a neighboring property, I ended up at the Waterford Inne. And don't tell anyone (no shade to the other inn which was also beautiful), but I lucked out! I live in LA, so Maine in itself is like another planet to me, but the Waterford Inne was like a magical escape into a world of relaxation, complete with an enchanting orchestra of bullfrogs, owls, chickens. I even got to experience a thunderstorm! (That right there is worth five stars from Ms. It Never Rains in California!) My mom was an antique collector, and right away I knew she would have approved of the gorgeous antique rugs, furniture, and wall hangings. The bed in my adorable room was super comfy and the delicious farm fresh breakfasts (The eggs came from the cluck section of the enchanting orchestra I mentioned earlier.) were served in the spectacular barn of wood walls and giant beams that was somehow huge and cozy at the same time. If I didn't have a retreat to go to, I could have sat in there all day. My lovely hosts Kember, Jack, and Sam took great care of me. I highly recommend going to this charming inne before everyone discovers it and it's always booked. I'm attaching pics and yes, that frittata (with asparagus and herbs from the garden) is as good as it looks! BRAVO!
