This is a great motel if you're on a budget and want lodging in walking distance of shopping and restaurants. It's on the edge of the commercial district, but on the main street and very walkable. Parking is great; each room has a numbered space, so we were able to park directly at the door to our room. That convenience was appreciated! The manager is remarkable. He quickly shared a wealth of information about staying at the motel, and even offered us a discount coupon for breakfast at a local restaurant. Our room faced the main street, but was relatively quiet. The room was very clean, nicely maintained, and the furnishings were classic. While there was no formal desk in our room, one of the nightstands was large enough to set up a laptop for my work. The beds were comfortable and the bedding was high quality and immaculate. The pillows varied, offering something to please everyone, whether you like a firm or soft/comfy pillow. The shower was the only reason I'm giving this motel four stars, in its price category. The water seemed to cycle from lukewarm to perfectly hot to scalding, repeatedly. After three rapid cycles of this, I gave up on getting a good shower. However, the towels were among the most luxurious I've seen at any hotel, even high-end resorts. One of the high points of this motel is the view from the rear-facing windows (there were two in our room). It is magnificent. We'd stay here again, and hope the shower/hot water situation is resolved by then. For the price, this motel is an exceptionally good value, and management went above and beyond to be helpful and welcoming. read more

Colonial Motel - View from the rear-facing windows in our motel room. You're seeing a very wooded area, and nearby mountains (for skiing and hiking). - Hotels Near Me - North Conway, New Hampshire

What a great deal! I booked a last-minute spring ski trip at Bretton Woods and found the Colonial Motel about a week before. Honestly, for the price, you can't go wrong. I know it's the shoulder season, but it's rare to find such clean, comfortable accommodations in the $60/night range. I arrived about an hour before the front desk was closing, and the check-in was quick and easy. The staff gave us directions to the back of the motel to find our numbered parking spot, which was right by our room. It was so convenient for unloading our car and getting inside quickly, especially with the rain. The room was clean, cozy, and just what we needed for a couple of nights. The bed was firm but comfortable, and the pillows were the same. The room stayed warm, and the waffle blanket was just the right weight. There were a couple of armchairs, a desk, a set of drawers, a mini fridge, microwave, nightstand, alarm clock, and a large flat-screen TV. I had to mess with the settings a bit to adjust the brightness (someone had turned it all the way down), but once we figured it out, we were able to enjoy Raiders of the Lost Ark. :) The bathroom was very clean, and although there was a jetted tub, we didn't use it. The hot water came on quickly, which was a welcome relief after a day on the slopes. The location is convenient too, right on the main road through Conway, with a short drive to the outlets and downtown. There's outdoor seating just outside the room and a pool in the back for the warmer months. Overall, you really can't go wrong with this place. I'd definitely recommend it. Oh... and that was one fabulous peacock wall clock. A statement for sure. read more

I booked online as I was attending an ultra hike at Mt Cranmore the next morning. My room smelled like 1970. There were stains on the bed spread. The very first thing I did was look for bedbugs because it seemed the very thing to do. Because there was no lock on the door, I pushed the chairs that were available in front of the door and the adjoining room door. I would never stay here again. read more

Colonial Motel - Bathroom - Hotels Near Me - North Conway, New Hampshire

Not fancy but a close walk to downtown North Conway. No issues with the room and check in was easy.

Broken items in the bathroom. Didn't "feel" clean. I wouldn't stay there again. Amenities were very cheap.

Booked a room in the parking lot thru hotels.com, walked in and checked in, was not even 5 minutes and received a call I needed to cancel. We had just finished the paperwork, and I had not even left the office, they wouldn't give me a refund. I admit I knew it was no. Refundable but it was literally within 5 minutes of booking. Then they proceeded to lie to me who the owner was and said it was up to them, but they were the owner. Big disappointment!!! I didn't put them out, they had full vacancies and it was 5 Minutes!!! Do not recommend!!! Rating a 0 out of 5 read more

What a terrible experience for me and my girlfriend. The worst motel I've ever stayed in. Walk in to the front desk - clerk is very erratic but initially friendly. Office kinda smells like cashew curry, not bad at all. Get our keys to the room and walk into a cloud of odor...like being punched in the nose by a million different things at once. The ceiling has multiple stains. I go to the bathroom and find a different, somehow more powerful smell. It's not chemicals, and it's not a clean smell. It's like someone poured out cheap perfume to try to hide something terrible. I use the toilet and find a weird brown/red smudge on it, despite it having a "Sanitized" paper wrapper on it, and the floor is sticky. I shouldn't have removed my shoes. Open the window all the way and blast the AC, hoping that will air it out while we get dinner. I brew a coffee and leave it as an air freshener. I joke that we should get some fish to microwave in the room to make it more bearable. Notice upon leaving that a lock is broken off the door. When we come back an hour later - somehow the smell is stronger. Where does it come from? I can't even breathe right. How is this possible? Call the front desk to complain...and he tells us he doesn't understand and I'm pretty sure hangs up on us. Time to walk around and talk to him I guess. We go and tell him there is a very strong odor in the room, that I have alergies and that I can't breathe properly and ask what can be done about it. Can we have a fan? Can he get us a replacement room? Do all the rooms smell like this? What's with the lock? He becomes IMMEDIATELY hostile, in a way that made me very alert and on edge. He insists there is NOTHING that can be done (can't even offer us a fan for the window?) and that nobody gets a refund, especially because "We had booked through a third party". Except we didn't, we made sure to do it directly to avoid problems. After a few tense seconds at his computer... he admits to this. He then changed his excuse - now it was because we had spent 2 hours in the room. That was completely a lie. I called his bluff and asked if there was a manager or owner I could speak with. He YELLS at me, insisting that he is the manager. I can't help but laugh. This whole thing is ridiculous. He gets even louder and yells "is that funny to you?!". Yes, it is. The room smells and you know it, that's why you're so defensive. I honestly thought at this point he might get up from his desk and try to fight me. I mention that there must be cameras on the property, that I have a dashcam, and that I'd be contacting the owners. I told him I would rather sleep in my car and that we're leaving. He continues to be extremely hostile and even attempts to insult me. I was wearing a hat for the movie "The Mask" and as I was leaving the office he yells "Don't forget to wear a mask!". The joke doesn't land but I get he was trying to be hateful in some way. Honestly, it was pathetic. This guy has serious anger problems. Why on earth he's in customer service is beyond me. He's lucky I was able to remain calm even though he tried goading me. He's going to get himself into trouble some day if he keeps it up. We go to the room and I take a video of the room and me exiting - feeling like if I don't that the desk clerk might come in behind us, trash the place and claim we are liable. When I go to return the keys I wanted to hand them directly to him, and when I did he had done a complete 180. Must've realized he's in for some trouble when the real boss shows up. Maybe he took his medicine. Either way he was now extremely apologetic and offered a potential solution. He wants to run an ozonator that he says will take "about 45 minutes" and we will have to vacate the room during this time, and he will call when it's done. I know that even if it solved the smell, that the room would not even be physically safe to occupy for at least 2 hours after starting the machine. How does this not constitute some sort of reimbursement? I tell him that I'm glad he's at least offering to do something and give him one of our keys so he can run the machine. We drive a few blocks away and sit in the car for half an hour...and we both feel like we can still smell it. We decide theres no way we are staying there and start the long drive back home. He calls us 2 hours later and leaves a message to tell us it's safe and that he hopes to hear from us before the office closes - in 7 minutes. Unbelievable. Hopefully whoever comes in after us won't have to suffocate. Stay literally anywhere else. If this place is the cheapest place, go buy a tent and sleep next to a dumpster. We paid $183.37 for "one night". I don't expect to see any returned. read more

I made a reservation for 3 nights, Friday - Sunday. When I checked in on Friday afternoon, my TV wouldn't work. The manager tried really hard to get it to work and Direct TV said they didn't have a technician until the next day. The manager brought me his tv about 10pm. The next day, I went out and when I came back in the afternoon was told Direct TV technicians didn't work on weekends. The broken TV was back in the room. The signal in the room is so weak, my phone was having trouble even loading Facebook so it was a very quiet, boring evening. The next day, I spoke to the son of the owner in the office. He told his father I wanted to speak to him and he said he wasn't around that evening. So yet another evening with a broken TV. I asked the owner to call me and he never did. Don't stay here. The manager tried his best which is the only reason I'm giving 2 stars. read more

Horrible, run down place. Bathtub was right at the foot of the bed! There must be people living upstairs who trampled around all night. No maid service BTW, so don't expect clean towels daily. Room was stifling hot in October. So sorry I threw away my money staying there read more

We checked in here for a 1-night stay and didn't even make it 1 hour in the room. Don't go here unless you like a room that smells horrible, a manager looking to start fights, and a missing lock on the door. We didn't feel safe as adults, I would definitely never bring kids there. It was worth losing the money to get out of there as soon as possible. read more

No frill motel with a great location, walking distance from shopping & restaurants. We had a minor issue with the heat that was really our fault. We couldn't find the thermostat! The staff could stop treating their customers like they are a hassle. I waited close to 10 minutes for someone to check me in and when the person finally showed up they were argumentative. The room appeared clean but smelled really funky. They also complained that we had booked online and tried to make changes to that booking. Pretty much the worst customer service experience I've ever had at a motel/hotel, all backed up with a funky smelling room. Lots of choices in North Conway. AVOID. read more

Great deal for a great spot. Very clean, recently remodeled. Seems like all new sheets, bedding, completely redone bathroom, etc. The 2 bed room has a microwave, mini fridge with freezer, small coffee maker, and TV. This place was great! Clean and comfortable, and even had a pool, which people looked like they were enjoying. Room had a clean fridge, coffee maker, AC unit, nice bathroom with tub. When we had a question about the AC unit (looked like it was turning on and off), the manager came right over to take a look. Best of all was the value- at a time when the cost of everything seems to be inflated, this motel was only $62 bucks total! Price might go up when summer begins (I stayed there on Tuesday, June 18), but still- that's unbelievable for a clean and comfortable double room within walking distance of the village. I once paid almost 5 X as much for a much worse motel in Portsmouth, NH...so go figure. Check this place out, you won't be disappointed! read more

A great location, nice rooms and wifi that actually works. That right there is all that you need to know. The room was clean. The bed was huge. Everything worked. Staff was friendly too. As for price...we payed UNDER $130 for 2 nights. When we've stayed at other places in the same area we've paid up to $300 and the quality was nowhere NEAR as good as at the Colonial Motel. I'm only giving it 4 stars because the no-slip tub mat almost killed me multiple times. I finally pulled it out. And the bathroom was small. But considering the rest of the room...that's more than acceptable. Also, our reservation said we had an in-room jacuzzi and we didn't. And honestly, that was fine. That is probably why we paid less for the room that the original booking price. If you are on a budget and you like quaint, this is where you stay. read more

We just stayed here and it was absolutely terrible. In our room we found a spider, had ceiling tiles that were stained, had an air conditioner that made the room smell, the wait to check in was long because the man who does this told us he was busy unclogging a toilet. When we spoke to the manager about these things not only did he say spiders were common, he dismissed everything else we brought to his attention. After seeing all the great reviews on this hotel and then staying there, I'd say the previous positive reviews are way off base. We asked for a full refund and was told an email would be sent to the GM and that's it. Then when we asked what we should do next, we were told we can call back to see if there was any resolution. Ridiculous!!! read more

Loved arriving on a wintery brisk night to a lovely neon sign. Jerry, the owner took care of all of our needs from booking to check out. Thanks Jerry! Super clean, super friendly and very accommodating. The mattress was very hard. I admit, I am a bedding snob. Love Moose and Maggie the dogs!! We recently booked a two night, two room stay at the Colonial Motel through Expedia. We found the rooms to be clean and comfortable albeit a bit old fashioned with sparse furnishings. They do their best to emphasize they are a family run business which implies a level of personal service superior to the big chains. We arrived on a Friday afternoon on a holiday weekend. The next morning we woke up to snow and were excited to head up to the Mountain for the tubing and adventure park. The snow turned to rain and the adventure park was closed for the day. So we were left with 2 hours of tubing. We arrived back at our rooms at 12:30pm. Our rooms had not yet been made up so we decided to go home since we really had nothing more to do. We understand it was our decision to leave early but their sign read "No Vacancy" and it was a Saturday, early afternoon, on a holiday weekend so we asked if they would be willing to work something out with us. We were hoping they would offer to refund us (minus the Expedia fee of course) IF they re-rented the rooms for the night. Or possibly comp us a room for the future in the off-season. We were told the rooms were "ours for the night" and there's nothing more they could do. That was a $250 loss for us. We reached out to the owners after we returned with a polite letter about our experience. The mail we received wasn't from a specified owner and had no personal greeting - it appeared to be a form letter with verbiage that indicated our letter hadn't even been thoroughly read. She told us we should have addressed the problem with them at the time (we did) and then apologized for the "inconvenience". Being out $250 is a bit more than an inconvenience. There was no offer to rectify the issue. I wrote a polite response addressing everything but never heard back. A family run place should have the flexibility to work something out so that it's a win-win for the motel and customer instead of a "lose" for the customer. As a former small business owner, I understand both the need to run a profitable business and to cultivate customer good will. Ironically I think a big hotel chain would have been more workable in a situation like this. Experiences like this encourages us to stick to the chains. We won't be returning to the Colonial Motel. read more

We're not usually a fan of motels, but we decided to take a chance on this one and we were very happy we did. I booked this motel through hotels.com to go tubing in the area, arriving a couple of days after booking. Less than 12 hours after booking the motel and tubing, the tubing center canceled my reservation because high river conditions due to the rains that day and all week meant that my youngest child, a non swimmer wasn't allowed to go tubing (ordinarily non swimmers can go tubing on the family tubing route with a life jacket in low river conditions I learned). I called the motel to explain. The owner/manager rudely told me there was nothing he could do because I canceled and the booking was not refundable. I understood this at booking and given I made the reservation the night before, less than 12 hours ago and the weather related tubing cancellation was not within my control, I had hoped they could be understanding. Instead he irritably reminded me of the policy and said he would have given me 1/2 off but I needed to call Expedia. I contacted hotels.com and explained. They said the refund was at the discretion of the motel owner and they would call on my behalf to try for a refund. Today I get an email stating that the owner never got back in touch with hotels.com, never returned their calls. I absolutely will not be booking anything with these people in the future. If he is this rude and inconsiderate via the phone and weather-related needs to cancel I can only imagine just how minimalist, rude, myopic, and stingy my motel stay would have been. Good thing there are nicer people and hotels in the area. read more

I stayed at the motel over the weekend. We rented out 2 rooms and the owner automatically sees us as "party people" and warns us in a rude way that it won't be tolerated. We had to get up early to go on our canoe trip and tried to tell him that, but he didn't care. He told us in his words that we had a "11pm bedtime". Ok ok, listen... Our group was between 27 and 32 years old, we don't need a motel owner giving us a bed time. At 12:30am I couldn't get back to sleep so I went outside and quietly sat there smoking a cigar. The owner came up to me and told me to put it out and "go to bed"... really?!? I asked him why and he told me that we were told to be in bed by 11 and he's afraid of getting bad reviews. Ok buddy, here's that bad review you wanted to avoid. I will take my business elsewhere next time. Other negatives... - 1 lightswitch shuts off all the power to the room and its right on the inside of the door. - the toilet was leaking all over the bathroom floor read more

This place is a gem! Writing this review actually feels like I'm giving away a big secret, but people deserve to know that this place is out there :) I've stayed at the Colonial Motel many times over the past 10 years and will always recommend it to friends that are visiting the area. The location cannot be beat, it is located right on the main strip of North Conway, within 5 to 10 minutes of all the shops and a bunch of different restaurants. The motel is family-run and the staff is so warm and friendly, and always willing to help out with recommendations on what to do in the area. I booked online through a travel-app- the price was right, and check-in and check-out were incredibly easy. The rooms here feel more like you are staying in a family's guest bedroom than in an actual hotel. We stayed in room #10 this past weekend and it was very clean and inviting. We had two comfy queen-sized beds, TV , mini-fridge, a couple of chairs and plenty of room to hang up our clothes. They have coffee, tea and hot cocoa for guests in the office, and in the past they've had homemade cookies sometimes, which is an adorable touch. There was also a small fire pit setup outside with seats around it, but we were heading out for dinner & some drinks when we saw it. We were three adults wanting a warm place to stay over after a day of snowboarding adventures- Families with small children may prefer to stay at a hotel with an indoor pool or more amenities - but for us, this was just perfect. I have no doubts that I will be staying here again. read more

We stayed at this motel for the in-room hot tub experience as it was our 38th wedding anniversary and a gift from our three kids. The room was fine with some nice qualities... 1. a very soft bed 2. a numbered parking space so we could leave and return knowing the space would still be there for us 3. room and tub were clean 4. good internet connection 5. excellent cable TV channel selections But there were also some problems... 1. no phone in room (an emergency would be problematic) and no one on duty (for emergencies) See #5 below! 2. no exhaust fan in bathroom 3. no deadbolt on door 4. no extra outlet plugs for electrical (ex: charge cell phone, etc.) 5. our air conditioner, located near the ceiling, burned out at around 3:00 AM. We awakened to burning electrical and had to open the window and door as the room got hot quickly on the hot June 28th overnight. I made a reservation for this hotel in July. Just arrived today to find out that my two night stay is actually only one night and they gave my room away to someone else. Apparently my credit card was declined, the day I was coming to the hotel. The person at the front desk said to me "I only have three rooms available and you see your name is not on one of these rooms". I was confused because my dad had called this morning and they had told us we were all set. They "tried" to contact me 5 times just day, when my phone told me that I had only missed two calls today and neither came up with the name of the hotel. I told him that and he said he left a voicemail...NO! I did not have any voicemails on my phone. He said that he could rebook me for tonight for the same price as it would be for two nights, WHAT! He said that seeing a (603) number should have told me something was not right and that I should have called right away. Even if I wanted to I was driving and there is a hands free law in NH. So I stay tonight and they tell me to go down the street to another hotel which adds an addition $300 to my stay. The fact that my dad called and talked to him this morning to ask if my reservation was all set and he said yes, but then only a few hours later say no we have been trying to reach you is Bull Shit. I will never be returning here. I am wasting an extra $300 that I do not have because they fucked up. I need a place to stay so what I am going to do, I have to spend more money. read more

I booked this through expedia. It was as advertised - I haven't stayed in a motel in years- I'm always in a hotel so I'm used to a bit more in the amenities department. However, the staff was friendly and helpful and efficient. We stayed in a queen bed room in the front of the building - it was definitely dated but very clean. The sheets were very thin - the bathroom was especially clean and was updated. The room had a fairly new rug and had a mini fridge which was nice. It was a bit loud being so close to the street and if I stayed again I would stay in the back near the pool. We did use the pool - it was very nice and quiet and clean.
