Execution is fair with this business, however the customer service and pricing strategy is less than excellent/fair. Was originally quoted $150/hr for service and they included drive time and added an additional 30 mins to my service, which would have been fine, had this been communicated. I called into reception after service and she said commuting should not be included, only for the owner to call and say "it's inlcluded, what's the problem?" Been having problem with a particular circuit breaker tripping repeatedly and another company was not able to diagnose the problem. Today the outlets went out but the circuit did not trip. Called Harmony- they were able to send Charles today. He arrived promptly and got straight to trying to diagnose the issue. He was relentless and methodical. He eventually figured out the problem. I had an issue that was not an emergency but did need a response so I would know how to handle. I called three separate electricians in the area. Harmony was the first to respond, letting me know that they could not attend to it same day, but at a time in the near future. We scheduled, he came as promised, let me know what the problem was (it actually could have been more of an emergency than I imagined), told me what he needed to do to fix it and also made some recommendations for my home. He completed without fanfare, left as small as best as I am used to electricians leaving, and the bill was not surprisingly large. Anthony (eletrician) was an hour late to our house. His excuse was that his phone was out of batteries and that he didn't have GPS. Very unprofessional right off the bat. He poked around the breaker box in the house and the meter outside. From what he saw and measured with the voltmeter, nothing was wrong. He said that there was no way he could troubleshoot. Then he said he would check the breaker box again with another gadget and miraculously found the issue. His solution was for us to call CenterPoint. This whole process took less than 30 minutes and he ended up charging the full hourly rate of $148 per hour. Because he did not have a working phone, I went inside to grab my credit card to call the office to pay. I was greeted by the lovely Laura (wife of the owner). I asked her a few questions about the rate and why it was fair to charge customers for the full hour when the electrician only performed half an hour of work. She immediately started to raise her voice and yelled at me. She said that the rate was fully disclosed and that there was a minimum flat rate of $148 for the first hour (which was not mentioned at all in a previous call when we inquired about the rate). After a couple more rude exchanges, I ended up paying. She mentioned that the electrician would stay the full hour and inspect the house (i.e. change light bulbs), which I declined because I just wanted him out. I went outside to get the invoice from Anthony but he was no where to be found. Again, very unprofessional. I notified Laura that Anthony had left. She said he would come back with the invoice, but he never did. This was one of the most frustrating and worst experiences I have ever had and would never recommend Harmony Electrics to anyone I know. There are glowing 5 star reviews on Yelp, but I struggle to see how this company could deliver such service. EDIT - 10/30/2017 The lovely Laura messaged me (or Ms. Parker?) today. Thank you for responding to me 2 months later. "Comment from Laura V. of Harmony Electric Co Business Owner 10/30/2017 Dear Ms. Parker, We cannot identify you as a customer. To Yelp - Please do not delete this review or any of the other bad reviews for this business. As you can see, Laura has gone through all the bad reviews and either (1) tried to make an excuse as to why they are not in the wrong or (2) invalidate these people as customers. Just look at reviews by Tracey S., Matthew S., Andrew L., etc. I have not seen any other business do this. If anything, the owners are more than apologetic and have offered me gift cards (i.e. businesses that are restaurants) or other remedies. The $20 discount does not even begin to remedy the feelings of being robbed. I accepted it because it's better than giving the business $20 more than they deserve. Harmony Electric Co., Inc was assigned to my mother's case that I opened through American Resources (Home Warranty Co). Charles called the day prior stating that he was going to be at my mother's property between 9-10am and he did. He examined the house and indicated that he wasn't able to fix the electrical issue. Since he wasn't able to fix it; I'd have to resort to a new company. Easy peasy right? No that was not the case. Charles started trashing my mother's home stating that he doesn't know how she's living there due to her house basically looking like trash. Mind you, it's in the early stages of remodeling. The house has been cleaned and cleared out to where it's just a big open space. The home isn't in the most pristine condition and we're currently working on that. The issue I have was the way Charles approached my mom by berating her. He could've easily said "sorry, I don't know how to fix it" in a professional manner and that's it, but he didn't. My husband and I called his employer (Harmony Electric Co.) and spoke to Laura (the owner) to inform her of what happened in the morning between her employee and my mother. Instead of listening to what transpired, she tried to deny it happening. I explained to her that my mother is Vietnamese and doesn't speak English but understands it. She had the audacity to say "well, how do you know she even understood what he said." I mean what kind of response is that? An easily, "I'm sorry this happened, and I will talk with Charles" would've been great but to make a comment like that? We called to report what happened so that the issue can be addressed so that this doesn't happen again to someone else. Harmony Electric (Houston, TX) installed a new breaker box for me in 2014 that has worked perfectly during the past five years. A few months ago several of my indoor plugs were not working due to a short in one plug. Raul was able to identify the source of the problem within 30 minutes, and checked several sockets, and repaired one other that was not working. This was an issue that might have taken a less experienced electrician several hours to locate. I am grateful for Harmony's honesty and integrity as a company, their respectful technicians' character, and highly recommend them to anyone wanting an experience with an ethical company. OK, so I managed to somehow remove the base of my kitchen light fixture while trying to change a bulb (don't ask me how that happened). The fact remained that I needed to get it fixed - fast. So I called Harmony Electric. Short version: A professional, prompt company that knows how to service customers and still charge less than their competitors. USE THEM!! Long version: After the fiasco in the kitchen, I called a "Name Brand" here in Houston (who shall go nameless), and they told me that the earliest they could get someone out there was the following week. The following week? WTF?? I politely told them no thank you. Then I called Harmony based on all the reviews. (You guys are so good!) Not only did the electrician make it out on the DAY I CALLED, but he was even a tad early! Wow. He was very professional and polite. When I showed him the problem (and the replacement base that I bought at Lowe's), he told me that it was (a) an easy fix and (b) I didn't need the new base as he could reinstall my old one! WOW. Needless to say, he got the job done in no time flat and even made suggestions as to how to save money on my electric bill with wattage usage. Bigger WOW. As for the price - his was much lower than "Name Brand" quoted on the phone. Plus, he didn't charge a service fee! Now I'm REALLY impressed. So, if you want a big or little job done with minimal headache, courteous service and a big savings for your wallet, Harmony Electric is the way to go. Let me start by saying I never give five stars. And I actually should deduct a star since the electrician was half an hour late and I had to call to see if they were still coming. But it was forgivable since he had a good reason for being late. The electrician was very professional and managed to fix my mess with a smile. I've done contract work, so I know the game - take your time and run up the cost. This guy was fast - like he got right to work, came up with a novel solution to my problem, and had it installed much faster than I could have. Just had a very frustrating experience with Harmony Electric. I spent $345 to have my doorbell rewired. Was surprised by the high cost and spoke with the owner. Dennis agreed to drop the price *to* $345 from $400ish. The experience left a bad taste (especially since my brother -- an out of town GC had already done the trouble-shooting and even walked the guys through it over the phone when they couldn't figure it out.). The men who came out were quite nice enough but struggled to complete the job. Fast forward 3 months, door bell isn't working again. I called and spoke with Dennis who said he's send the same men back for an initial service fee of $148. To troubleshoot. Again. I asked that he wave the fee for troubleshooting since we so recently had the work done. He got agitated and told me I didn't understand business. Seemed like an unnecessary personal attack during what had been a cordial conversation. We went back and forth and he accused me of wanting something for nothing, of being cheap (in so many words) and of not having any business sense. I told him I was disappointed in those accusations, in his seeming disinterest in reaching a solution to our electrical issue, and that I realized from our interaction that it was best for us to move on to another electrician. This is actually the second time I felt like we were over-charged and our concerns were dismissed. Last time I chalked it up to a learning experience for myself. This time I realized they aren't the kind of company I want to do business with. UPDATED TO SAY: The response from Harmony Electric both on the phone and on Yelp are precisely why we ultimately chose to have another company fix the issue. We have used Harmony several times and had great service. I'm confused about one review clamming they charged her $148 an hour. That is not their hourly rate, or has not been for us. All of the electricians we have had were courteous, professional, clean and respectful of our house. I asked the electrician to take a look at some lines on the outside of house. He advised me to contact CenterPoint to fix them for free. When dealing with any contractor or service provider make sure you have an understanding of the rate and the expected time it will take to finish the job. I would not wait an hour for anyone to show up. I would reschedule the appointment or cancel and call another electrician. read more

When asked, he insisted on another $150 just to come admire their previous mistakes rather than at least agreeing to stand behind his previous work. Cons: - High 1st hourly rate - If you don't choose to go with them, they charge you a full hour - very high price for a quote - Very rude lady who takes billing info - Contractor let me go to the store for him to exchange a product that he mistaken bought even though, in his mind, it was a flat priced job Pros: - Contractor they sent was nice - Contractor did a good job Full Story: I called to get a quote for a 2 part job and the man who answered told me the hourly rates and that when the contractor got there, they could give me an estimate. The quick 10 minute estimate seemed fair and I asked how much the materials portion of the estimate was. Doing some quick math, it came out to be that the estimate was for 2 hours of work based on their hourly rates. Now, the issues likely arise from miscommunication on both sides as I should have asked specifically but I had assumed that this estimate and work being done was on a time and materials basis based on the prior conversations. They assumed that now that they gave an estimate, it was a flat priced job. The contractor that was sent was nice and did a good job but had no parts with him. Once he returned from the store, he realized he had gotten the wrong part. Thinking this was a time and material job, I offered to exchange it for him and get the right part. My trip took 40 minutes and he had been finished with the main, more difficult, part of the job for 10 minutes or so. He popped in the exchanged product and finished up within 5 minutes. Total time that the contractor spent quoting and working was between 1 hour and 1:15. When paying, they initially were going to charge me for 2 hours. I had assumed the cost would be for an hour or at most an hour and half of the contractors time. After talking with the man I originally spoke with, we agreed to an hour and half which is still more than I would have expected especially with consuming my own time. Upon trying to pay with a credit card, the contractor called a woman on speaker phone to take payment details who immediately stated very loudly and rudely that they wouldn't take credit cards from me since I was getting a 'discount'. When we called to ask for an estimate for some work to reconnect the electrical box to the outside of the house, we were NOT told that there would be a charge to give us an estimate, nor were were told of an hourly rate or minimum charge. (While recently bidding out this job, all the other companies have given us price estimate quotes for the work with no charge for their time or the service.) After spending less than 30 minutes with my husband reviewing the work that we wanted done, the Harmony Electric employee presented us with a quote for the work that was higher than other quotes we received, and, we were presented with a bill for $148 for a "service" call. I found Harmony a few years back when I learned that our fuse box and electricity had all been wired wrong by the builder some 15 years earlier. I always wondered why the lights would dim or the microwave not heat. Once Centerpoint came out and saw, they turned off our electricity. This was a Friday in a very hot August. Harmony answered over the weekend, came out and looked, got the permit first thing Monday, and we were back in an air conditioned house by Monday afternoon. I haven't had anything as serious since that time, but Harmony has always been responsive, quick, pleasant and great to deal with. I don't go anywhere else. read more

All other electric companies wanted to charge $2175.00 dollars to change out my breaker box and "upgrade" it to 125amp to keep it from tripping. Calvin pointed out that my breaker box is pulling 200amps so the other companies were lying, and showed me what was causing the breaker to trip every time I used my AC. HousePro installed my AC unit and deliberately used the wrong size wiring and fuses. Calvin fixed all of the problem areas created by HousePro for $298.58. read more

I can't say enough good things about Harmony Electric on Yale. I have used them 3 times in the last year and every time they have been great. They are on time, quick, and friendly. The technician explained what was going on and some of it wasn't anything that needed to be fixed. It was an issue with my bulbs. As of last Thursday, I was in the midst of receiving the inspection report on our home that we are selling and given our fast close date, was very concerned about getting a reputable electrician to do work on the report to satisfy the buyer. I called around, frustrated to line someone up, and then I called Harmony, who I had never used previously. They understood the work I needed to have completed and the importance of timeliness. They said they would be able to have technicians at my home the next day. Anthony and James came out and not only did they execute the work well, but they took time to ensure I knew what the issues were and why they appeared on the report. They were very efficient and the charge came in less than I expected. Anthony and James were very personable, professional and diligent. I'll start by saying I had a terrible experience and would not recommend Harmony Electric to any of my friends or colleagues. 1) The electrician gave me an hour advance notice call and arrived an hour and 45 minutes later. 2) I was given the company's hourly rate but was not notified that it was a flat rate with a one hour minimum (no prorating). The work performed by the electrician took 30 minutes and when it came time to pay, we called the company's office to provide our credit card number. This is when we were notified that although the work only took 30 minutes that they will be charging me for the full hourly rate. When I tried to explain to the company that this was not previously explained to me, the lady representative (Laura) began raising her voice and yelling at me (talk about poor customer service). She flat out called me a liar (again, poor customer service) and said that the company fully explained to me their hourly rate policy prior to performing their services (which they did not and was the reason I was surprised in the first place). Reluctantly, I had my girlfriend call the company and pay them over the phone. 3) When my girlfriend called to pay, she (girlfriend) also tried to get an explanation of why we were being charged for a full hour's work when the electrician only took half an hour. The representative of the company (which repeatedly kept saying she was the owner's wife) also began yelling at my girlfriend (for a third time, poor customer service) telling her that things were explained to us beforehand. We ended up paying the full rate partly out of frustration and partly due to the yelling of the company's representative. I'd also like to mention that the company's findings were "to call the energy company". It seemed very unreasonable to pay full rate for 1) half an hours worth of work and 2) to get a "call the energy company" answer. I would never EVER recommend this company to anyone. 10/30/17 UPDATE: Response to my review from the Company: Comment from Laura V. of Harmony Electric Co Business Owner 10/30/2017 Dear Andrew, Every customer is advised of our hourly rate and that the only time we can guarantee arrival time is first call in the morning. I will defend employees that I know are honorable if you falsely accuse them. Most service companies have a service rate and I'm sorry you didn't understand that. You did not pay the full rate as we gave you a discount to try to make you happy because you didn't understand the service rate. Our technician called you to inform you he was on his way but there was no answer, so he went to the next call and called you again when he was free to attempt to service you again. We found that the problem was a power company issue and advised you to call them. That saved you a lot of money. I'm sorry if you were unhappy with our attempt to service you. My response to above: 1. I had someone at my residence the entire time. Your employee did not wait one second for someone to arrive at my residence. 2. You indeed did raise your voice and did indeed call me a liar. 3. I did not falsely accuse your employees of anything 4. I do understand that service companies have a service rate. I think what you do not understand is that it was not clearly communicated to me. You're starting to sound very condescending like you did when we initially interacted on the phone. 5. Your technician called me to tell me he was running late because he didn't have his GPS to input my address. There was no instance in which he called and I did not answer my phone. Again, sounds like you're making stuff up to CYA. 6. My only regret is not having our call recorded so that everyone can listen to the way you talk to your clients and potential clients. After reading all the reviews of your service company, it appears that all those with unfavorable reviews have the same thing in common: lack of communication on behalf of your company and lack of respect by you/your representatives to customers. I would not go out of my way to post this unfavorable update review but I will not tolerate a false statement posted by you/your company in response to my initial review. read more

I chose this service based on Yelp reviews, and what I have learned is that I doubt I can trust that site again. The electrician was not, in my opinion, particularly professional. He complained a great deal about the heat and other things, and did not arrive with sufficient wiring; he then had to make a second trip on another day, and when I expressed some concern about the hour he suggested (it conflicted with my work schedule), he said to me, "If you want this kind of help, you have to make yourself available." Really? He made a huge mess in my office/study, and left large holes in my walls which he said would have to be fixed by someone who does sheetrock. I had not counted on the extra expense added to the nearly $500 I spent having two wall plugs put in. He also assured me on more than one occasion, "I do not work nights or weekends." Perish the thought. Bottom line: I have other electrical work that needs to be done, but it will not be with Harmony. I am disappointed and a little angry, but life goes on. Two and a half years ago, Harmony Electric totally rewired my home and farm after a power surge. It was all covered by home insurance. Harmony Electric charged me for outlets and breakers that failed that they put in two years ago. I paid about $178 for their visit to replace them. They had been out on one visit where it appeared it was just the breaker, and the reset button on an outlet in my bathroom, but in the next week, the reset button would no longer work and then it was clear the breaker had to be replaced. I complained about being charged today,...not a good way to start a conversation on my part, but I was certainly afraid that what happened after that did in fact happen. Today they would not attend to the issues with no power in my main kitchen when the generator came on. They were suppose to label the new generator panel two years ago when they put it in. It still has the old labelling which I never noticed until today when the power went out and my main kitchen was not connected to the generator like it had been in the past so it had no power. The lack of labelling on the generator was never noticed because the kitchen had always worked before today when the generator came on. We ended up in a nasty confrontation on the phone, because of it. I have witnesses that my kitchen was always connected in other times when the power went out. I think Harmony Electric is avoiding an issue with wiring in my kitchen, as that is where the plugs and outlets fail and also the bathroom next to it. The room next to the kitchen which also normally has lights also wasn't working. With the lack of labelling on the generator, it is hard for me to know where that wiring was actually connected and they now refuse to look at it or label it. I am very upset. They then said they would no longer work with me after I challenged them about the labelling they claimed they had done. I asked to speak with the owner and was told he had been listening and was not interested in speaking to me. He also said it was why Tim hired him...to handle these types of thing. Hmmmm..must be a lot of them. I am also quite sad, as after the months they spent at my home doing all that work, that we were friends. Well guess not so much. read more

We then had another issue with one of the things they worked on and they came out that day and fixed it without an additional charge.
