I sometimes say if a place has a fantastic location, it doesn't have to have fantastic food. However, when you charge nice restaurant prices, a fantastic location will not save you from myriad service and food quality issues. Haring's has a terrific, classic New England location in Noank right along the Mystic Harbor. It's a touch north of Abbot's, and is where Ford's used to be. Our family was on a boat and looking to dock for lunch. The Captain's first choice for lunch did not have dock parking available, and I recommended Harings based on social media posts. The Harings employee who helped us dock was very nice, helpful and hard working. He was probably the high point of our experience. We were told that since he had a boat, we would have to eat on our boat and they would come to the boat and take our order when it was our turn. From the point we were told that, here was our experience. Nobody came to take our order for about 45 minutes. I went to the desk and they apologized and sent someone to take our order. She was friendly and helpful. We were told it would take about 30 minutes to get our food. It took longer. A boat that docked about 30 minutes after us had their order taken within about 15 minutes, and they received their food 10 minutes before I had to complain that we still hadn't received any of our food. The person I spoke with was friendly and our food arrived soon after I said something. The food, which was not inexpensive, was not spectacular. Certain items were not delivered. My son said his fries were not warm and were undercooked, and his $18 chicken sandwich was much smaller than cheaper sandwiches he normally orders.The people who ordered hot lobster rolls said they were OK. At this point, so much time had passed, that we did not have time for them to correct these issues. I ordered the Bisquets and Gravy, which was a 1/2 pound of lobster, lobster bisque and cheddar biscuits. The bisque was average. It could have been better seasoned. There was a lot of lobster, but at least some bites were overcooked. The lobster wasn't well seasoned either. The highlight of my food was the oysters, which was a substitute for the scallop crudo they had run out of after I ordered. I have the sense that the people who helped us, wanted to provide good service. It just seemed like the structure of the service was disorganized, and you never knew if they had forgotten you or that was just the normal lag. I ultimately concluded it was mostly that they had forgotten about us. The location is fantastic. Perhaps the food is better when the business is less steady. I did not see enough in this visit to return. This was probably my least favorite New England water side food experience in years. Especially at this price point. 2.25 Stars read more

Their special swordfish was soft and mushy which I returned to the kitchen. The lobster bisque had a butternut squash purée base, no lobster taste whatsoever. The fish and chips were terrible, mostly crust and very tiny overcooked piece of fish. The coleslaw was not edible. Overall a really terrible meal. So glad we went! Don't listen to any of the older negative reviews on here, this place is a hidden gem. Beautiful views on the water. We were greeted right away by the friendliest host and server and seated quickly. Started with 2 cups of lobster bisque which was delicious and topped with a whole lobster claw (totally worth the $10 unlike what some other reviews mentioned - it was great) and some hush puppies which were perfectly fried and served with a delicious lemon herb butter. Fried haddock sandwich and eggs Benedict were great choices for lunch, and our son got the fried haddock nuggets. Fish was salted just right and the crisp coating stayed together which is a must for me with fried fish. Really good cup of coffee too. Must not miss this place, we'd come back for sure! read more

The setting was beautiful, scenery delightful, and the food looked good. It seemed like a great place to have lunch on a beautiful day. Unfortunately the service was rude. When we arrived we were told it would be 20-25 minutes wait, which was fine. Then two other - much younger - couples came after we did, also without reservations, and were seated immediately. When we pointed this out to the hostess she was dismissive, said something about the available tables being in the sun and not under cover - even though one of the other - younger - couples seated before us were seated in shade. We told the hostess we would wait for a table under cover. 5 minutes later we were seated - not under cover. We then waited for nearly a half hour for a waitperson to come, but were ignored. We finally left without eating. It's hard to not think ageism may have been behind this rudeness. read more

Great Food, Service Roulette We've been to Haring's Marine twice. Both times, the food was on point--the kitchen knows what it's doing. Special mention to the Ninigret oysters: delicious, fresh, and honestly working harder than most of the staff. First trip, Katie ran the show. She made us feel welcome, handled our three toddlers like a pro, and made it look easy. She's the kind of person who makes a simple spot feel special. Second visit... not so much. The daytime crew was more interested in their own conversation by the register than anything happening at the tables. It's a simple setup, but you can't run a place on autopilot and expect it to work. So: big credit to the chef, a standing ovation for Katie, and a slow clap for the oysters. Everyone else? Clam fritters were fried dough, but I failed to find one clam in the whole serving of 5 fritters. Really??? Rest of the meal was just so-so, and came out just a few minutes after the clamless clam fritters, so I had to sacrifice focusing on the hot appetizer to start on the hot entree, which is not good service. It was 3 pm on a gorgeous September day, not busy so the staff could pace meals better. I wasn't expecting Michelin stars, but this definitely shouldn't have made the NY Times list. read more

A plate full of potatoes and greens, hidden inside about a table spoon size piece of flounder with a nice cream scoop size glob of "stuffing". Bread stuffing. What they call brioche on the fried fish Sandwich looked grocery store brand grade. Very disappointed especially knowing the group this is associated with. I asked for Cole slaw and got potato salad but they brought a replacement with no hesitation. My table for a lobster. I would not recommend that route. I ate at Haring's 4pm on 10/18/24. So good! It was 65 degrees and sunny. I sat outside staring at the water, with my shades on. They played a chill music playlist that matched the vibe perfectly. Any you can call them on channel 71 you are arriving via boat. Stay Nautical! It's BYOB but they give you a QR code to order beer from Universal Package Store next door. They run to get your drinks too. I ate oysters from Mystic (happy hour- phenomenal), the Brussels sprouts (ok), and lobster bisque (very good). I'm traveling but I hope to be come back someday. What was the problem at this place , formerly Ford's, on Father's Day? Four of us went at 1pm, and it was swamped. That probably wasn't a surprise. It was a beautiful day. We were two adults and two children. They simply weren't prepared. There wasn't enough parking or tables. It was an awful experience for our family group - waiting over an hour with toddlers is hard! When our food finally arrived, they served a dill dipping sauce for the girls' chicken tenders! Funny! What 5 year old would want that? The BLT option to substitute portobello for the bacon was good, but wish we had known there was no alcohol. Maybe it'll improve with time but we'll wait until we hear better reviews. read more

Ok... so I reluctantly gave Haring's another try. Didn't order seafood (which kind of seemed weird) but my wife and I split the 1/2 bourbon chicken. It came with red potatoes (whole , not smashed) with no butter or seasoning, just boiled, and again.. swing and a miss.. the only cool part of the experience was you can order wine/beer etc from the local liquor store and they deliver it since its a BYOB set up. I really wanted this place to work since I can sail into the dock, step off with guests and have a meal. I don't know what is going on there, the wait staff is pleasant, the dock help was helpful, the food just sucks. I don't know how else to say it. Went in November for brunch. Small dining room, nautical artwork on the walls. There is outdoor seating, primary seating in the summer. The restaurant is at a dock, beautiful views of the water. I had lobster bisque. It was thick and tasty. My wife had a green salad to start. The leaves were a bit large but the dressing was fantastic. We both had smash burgers. They were great. The staff was cute, inexperienced in professional table setting, however they were engaging and fun! Ford's Lobster lost its lease, but the past staff has returned under Harings Marine. To make matters more unusual, Mystic Seaport is running the dock and newly added fuel. However, the Mystic Seaport people add support, knowledge, and kindness to what used to be a "fend(er)-for-your-self" docking experience. The seafood menu has changed but remains expensive and delicious. Their Old Lobster Bomb turned into Biscuits and Gravy, a healthy portion of lobster over a corn-breaded grit, smothered in lobster bisque. Super costly but out of this world...with service to your boat. read more

Food, service, environment were incredible. We brought 16 people from our yacht club and decided to eat on board. The service members actually set the table on our boat and set up a table on the dock for us as well. These guys deliver way more than anyone could ever expect the food was delicious. Echoing other reviews, the lobster in the lobster rolls was rancid and clearly sitting in the freezer for far too long. The New England clam chowder is basically water with a few chunks of potato and possibly one clam. None of the sides were good either. Dinner for 4 on a beautiful Thursday evening in early September...a new restaurant from 85th Day in the old Ford's Lobster location. Beautiful site! Young server bombed. The place is BYOB, and we brought a cooler. She still should have served water to the table. She ordered two haddock instead of two scallops, one with the tomato bacon jam on the side. Dinners arrived...oops, I'll ask the kitchen to take care of that right away. Two people ate while two waited. My husband's fish sandwich was cold. No complaints about the stuffed Flounder my friend had. The first scallop dinner arrived, but the second came 10 minutes later, likely because they put the tomato bacon jam on it and needed to re-Fire it. At least we were charged for the haddock she ordered and not the scallops. Server was chatting with friends and colleagues when she should have been in the kitchen apologizing to them and asking for them to please help and making sure the second scallop order got the jam on the side so that the two diners could be served together. 85th Day? Once Ford's Lobster, the 85th Day Restaurant Group has opening Haring's Noank. We had outstanding views and snacked on Smoked Bluefish Dip, Crab Cake all delicious. My favorite was the Crispy Fried Haddock Sandwich which I topped with malt vinegar. This sandwich was lite and tasty - and I will be coming back for this again and again. Look forward to trying more items on the menu. The deck seating was relaxed and had the perfect amount of cover from the sun. I had really high hopes for this restaurant as they belong to the same group of oyster club and Engine room. With that being said, I unfortunately wouldn't recommend this restaurant. We came by boat and the dockhand was very nice and helpful and got us tied up quickly. we then had to get off the boat to be told that we had to go back to the boat to eat because there were no tables available. They did bring a table for us to use while sitting on our boat and brought a bucket of ice for the bottle of wine that we ordered from the package store up the street. The delivery from the package store was very quick, and easy to use. We ordered the steamers for an appetizer, they were sandy and slightly gritty, and some of the shells were broken. I ordered a cup of the New England clam chowder, it was very thin, there were not a lot of clams and the potatoes were very large and not uniformly cut. I also got the Caesar salad, which I was interested to try as it had a smoked glue fish and lemon dressing. There was no dressing on the salad was a plate of romaine lettuce. My boyfriend ordered the lobster salad roll which he said was "just all right ". The lobster roll was $58, which seemed a little high. Very disappointing food. Grilled squid was fishy and not fresh. It was not grilled but seemed to be poached and it was like rubber. Two orders of clear clam chowder had one tiny piece of clam between the two. The lobster corn fritters had no lobster and was nothing more than a fried corn flour ball. It is a shame because the ambience is lovely and they own the liquor store up the street that we used to stop at on our way to Ford's, and they deliver which is a great idea. Staff was friendly but not attentive. And they just slapped up these tacky Haring's signs over the rustic Fords buildings. Love Harings and do not understand how it has gotten any mediocre reviews. Have been here 4 times already (2lunchtimes and 2 dinnertimes) and have totally enjoyed everything about this place. The view, for starters, is gorgeous and you can watch the boats go by; the staff are welcoming and attentive; the menu has lots of options for the seafood lover or meat lover or vegetarian.... And the food (I'm a lobster roll lover!) is sooo delicious. The lobster rolls are packed with fresh lobster (I got the 1/4 lb hot option) and the fries are handcut and crispy. Had a chance to speak with Chris, the chef, who we happened to run into on our way out and told him how much we enjoyed our meal. He was telling us about some exciting plans for new menu items and with him in the kitchen, we will definitely be back!
