This company was a poor choice for PSEG to hire to trim people's trees. Instead of using a ladder to climb the trees (They claimed they couldn't get a ladder into my backyard. I don't know why. I've had plenty of contractors bring ladders into the yard), they used a rigging. One tree is pretty small, and the guy hanging from the rigging started swinging on the rope and crashed into the side of my shed. I asked them to please be careful of my garden, since they were throwing branches onto the plants in my garden, and one of them said "it's light, it won't hurt anything." I was on my deck watching them and I heard one guy laughing and saying to the other guy "That lady is watching you!" The branches they cut out of the tree weren't even near the power lines, and they didn't trim the branches that were growing near the power lines. The cleanup was poor, so I called PSEG to complain, and they had the owner of the tree company call me and he was belligerent. When I told him about the guy who crashed into the shed, he said was there any damage? (which wasn't the point). When I said no, he didn't seem to think there was a problem. Then he sent some guys to clean up what the first guys left but their cleanup wasn't the greatest either, plus they trampled a plant in my garden. I would not recommend them. read more

Actually Harder Tree Service doesn't even deserve ONE star! Should have realized when it took three followup calls to confirm my appt, that Harder wouldn't keep it. Yep, I took a day off from work - and only heard from Tom that morning. He wasn't coming to give an estimate for tree removal because it's drizzling outside and he's been sick. And since Tom hasn't worked on Saturdays in 20 yrs, I can reschedule for another weekday and take another day off. Never appreciated social media until writing this review. Find a reputable company that understands the meaning of good customer service because Harder doesn't have a clue. read more

I would give a Zero star if I can for this company. Called them for a few months, got all the permits and was told they would be the house next week, another week passed by, nobody showed up. The last time I called, Hank yelled at me and said he didn't have time for such a small job (estimate $250). Not kind and professional at all. read more

Last summer I hired Harder to trim some trees and install shade plants in my front yard. Despite their "warranty" to replace those plants that did not survive. 6 of the 8 plants did not make it through last summer. I contacted them in the Fall. I was visited by the arborist who designed and supervised the plantings. He insured me that he would replace the dead and dying plants. I called Harder several times. I was told that the arborist would follow up. It is May, one year later. NO follow up. NO call. NO plants. STAY AWAY from Harder Tree Service! If I could give this company a ZERO star rating, I would. Caveat Emptor! read more

This tree company has been in my neighborhood this past week under the direction of PSE & G removing branches and tree limbs close to wires. They are doing a professional job with courteous employees under very hot conditions. Nice work! read more

PSE&G hired Harder Services to clip back some branches of trees that were hitting the electrical wires in our backyards. It was specific to certain streets in Garden City. We were not notified of their arrival - the Harder tree guys showed up in my yard, didn't alert me to their presence, and proceeded to cut off entire huge branches off of my three main trees in my backyard. They completely hacked up my neighbor's tree. There was no concern with regard to aesthetics, it was a total hack job. I asked the Harder tree employees to stop what they were doing because they were about to hack off two large branches of my tree. They got down off of the tree while I called PSE&G. One of the Harder employees that was working in my neighbor's yard came into my yard and began harassing me. I told him that we had just contracted with Harder Services in November to trim all of the branches of the trees in our yard, at a cost of more than $650. He told me I was full of sh*t, that they were going to continue their work as planned, and I had nothing to say about it. I asked him repeatedly to leave, I informed him that I was on the phone with a manager from PSE&G, and he laughed in my face and called his foreman over and told him to get back up in the tree. I then told him that I was going to call the police, he laughed at me again, and said, "go ahead, that cop is going to tell me that I have the right to do whatever I want." And then he continued to laugh and got in my face. So I hung up with PSE&G and then called the police department. When the officer arrived, he agreed that it looked like the trees had been hacked haphazardly, and that they had removed branches that didn't need to be removed. The officer called one of the worker's over, and I explained to the worker that we had just had all of the trees in our yard trimmed in November, and the worker, who wound up being a foreman, said that whoever did the trimming of our trees did it completely wrong and deadened the particular branches that they had trimmed. When I told the foreman that it had been Harder Services who did the work, he just sheepishly smiled and said, "sorry." The foreman agreed to return this morning to trim the remaining branches that were close to the electrical wires in the back and said he would work with me before he removed anything. He did not show up this morning and multiple calls to Hank at Harder Services were not returned. read more
