Do not get distracted by people who look like they work for the terminal authority they are just trying to lock you in on a paid tour to Statue of Liberty. So just stay focus, and get in line for the free ride to Staten Island. Also don't panic these ferry boats are insanely big so you will find a spot to get the views you want. If you leave from NYC stick to the right side and go upstairs for the best photos. Once you've made it to Staten Island without any wait, you get off and roll back into another boat (SI To Manhattan) and do it all over again. If you still want to see the Liberty statue leaving from Staten Island, stick to the left. From Manhattan to SI stick to the right and try to get on the second floor. If you want to explore what's around the area a short walk will take you to Wall Street, you'll see the bull and Trinity Church (where Hamilton and Eliza and Philip are buried). Also with going inside the church even with their very strict security check -- we had to even take Apple Watches which was a first but I'm all about safety so whatever they ask, I'll gladly do it. So if near Wall Street make Trinity Church a stop just like that silly snatching bull! ;)

I've taken this trip many times other than on marathon day. Its one of the few free things you can do in the city whether commuting for work or just for enjoyment. Ferries run constantly throughout the day. Overall, its a well maintained and clean modern facility. It has clean bathrooms and concessions for food and drinks such as Wendy's, Dunkin Donuts, Subway, Auntie Anne's, Pizza, and a bar. Also a market for snacks and souvenirs.

Fall foliage, boats, beer, cider, Bavarian food, and four hours on the water? Honestly, what more…read moredo you need? We did the fall foliage tour with an Oktoberfest theme and had such a fun time. It was a four-hour delightful ride with plenty of food, drinks, sightseeing, and fresh air. Our guide, Andy, was fantastic. He had SO many facts about the city and everything we were seeing--and he was hilarious. Honestly, I think Andy could probably carry an entire conversation by himself if you stopped responding. He just keeps going! But in the best possible way. The themed drinks were a lot of fun. I had an apple cider mimosa, which felt very appropriate for a fall boat ride. They also had a special Oktoberfest mug for $45 that came with FREE REFILLS. My friends took advantage of that for the beer and cider, because apparently they understood the assignment. Food-wise, we shared a HUGE Bavarian pretzel and an apple cider donut. There were also larger food plates available for $16.50 if you wanted to make a whole meal of it. When we went, the leaves were just starting to change, so I can only imagine how gorgeous this ride will be once the colors really come in. I'm guessing mid-November could be spectacular. And PLEASE get upstairs. Take in the fresh air, let the sun hit your face, and actually enjoy those views. It makes the whole experience. Dress warmly, though! I was in a sweater, leggings, and boots and was definitely feeling the chill. And now for the public service announcement nobody asked for but everyone needs: THE BATHROOMS AREN'T SCARY. They actually have multiple stalls. They automatically flush. You will survive. Happy boating, sightseeing, drinking, eating, and aggressively looking at leaves! Would absolutely do this again.

Need a quick and efficient way to get into NYC? This is the way to go. While it's only an hour and…read morea half drive to NYC the traffic near the Holland tunnel can be brutal and parking a nightmare. Plus if you're not used to driving in the city, you may die, no really, it's scary. For years to avoid the above, we would take the bus into the city. That used to be an affordable option but over the years has become quite costly. Low and behold, the ferry! This was our first time and we were somewhat skeptical but it was a complete success. We made the drive to Hokoben and it was a straight shot. Once we arrived we quickly found parking in a public structure, there is also some street parking but be sure to read the signs as some are 4 hour only. Walk up to the pier and you'll see a small little building. There you will find two kiosks where you can purchase tickets and all the schedules. Alternatively, you can download the NY waterway app and purchase e-tickets on your phone. Tickets are $9 one way ($18 round trip), they also have monthly passes, student, child and senior discounts. The ferry comes every 20 mins (at least on the weekend) and was promptly on time. It was 7-8 min boat ride across the Hudson. It couldn't be more simple. When you arrive there is a building with a restaurant, coffee shop, gift shop and restrooms. Outside you can catch a bus for free to other areas of the city. We were heading to Radio City Music Hall and the bus literally dropped us off a half a block away, easy preasy! Enjoy your day and repeat in reverse!
