Hidden gem in southwest harbor with fantastic food that's worth the wait given that they don't take reservations, aren't open Saturday and Sunday and are clearly popular. The inside was cozy and rustic with a clear fisherman's vibe. My wife and I ate here for our 15th wedding anniversary while on vacation in Acadia. We started with the fisherman's chowder, which is probably the best chowder I've ever had. It wasn't too salty (which is almost unheard of) and came with tons of lobster and other seafood. We both devoured it. The only problem was trying to make sure that you didn't burn your mouth because it was so good you didn't want to wait to eat it. I got the tuna and green bean casserole while my wife got the pasta bolognese. Both were good, but the tuna really stood out. It was seared, sushi-grade, blackened tuna over chopped green beans that weren't in any way over-cooked with a small pea-shoot salad. The name didn't do the dish any justice. I so want to give them a higher rating. First they don't take reservations, waited about 15 minutes. Not bad for a Friday night. Waited a bit for a waitress to come take our drink order, by that time we had all decided what to have for dinner. Caesar Salad and Pork Belly Toast for apps. Both plenty for three and both very good. I got the short rib pasta, gnocchi and bolognese for the boys. This is where they lost a star - it was relatively crowded. There were always patrons waiting for a table - but it had to be about 30 minutes between app and entrees. It did seem that the staff kept saying thank you for your patience. Food was delicious. We caught the sunset at the lighthouse and started heading back to one restaurant we had in mind. I asked my friends to keep an eye out should we stumble upon other options, and as we drove by, Harbor Table caught our eye. We had about a 30 minute wait, but we grabbed some drinks and enjoyed watching the chefs in the open kitchen. The restaurant is quaint and quite adorable. Once seated, Kayla took amazing care of us, learned our names, and made the best recommendations. She let us know they only had a couple of servings of one particular dish left, so one of our friends got it and she sprinted to let the kitchen know to save it for us. We received our appetizers quickly, and although the main courses did take a little while, we didn't mind. Suddenly, Kayla and the owner came out with complimentary limoncello shots and two non-alcoholic options, and they said they wanted to celebrate our friend who beat breast cancer, and applauded her strength and spirit - non a dry eye amongst us upon doing so. That made the experience so personal, and Harbor Table quickly became one of my favorite spots in Maine. The food was all very delicious. I ordered the lobster bisque, and it was warm and chock-full of lobster. Everyone was satisfied, but honestly, the personal touch and caring nature of all the staff was what won us over the most. We stopped in at this lively and eclectic little eatery after a long hike, looking for some comfort food and we were glad we did! The hummus was the best we have ever had! It was sprinkled with pine nuts and roasted mushrooms and served with an incredibly soft homemade pita. The flavors combined in a truly stellar fashion. The cheeseburger (two smashed patties) was hands down the best entree on the table. We also ordered jambalaya and pork schnitzel and gnocchi. We sat at the bar and the bartender was very attentive to us We ordered the lumache Al pesto pasta (I added over easy eggs for breakfast) and my husband ordered "whitefish" salad on toast, which he loved. The pasta was fresh and wonderful. It was an unusual pesto with hazelnuts and included pickled fresno peppers. I came back the next day with my laptop at the bar and was treated very kindly by all as I customized a vegetarian breakfast for myself - modified brat and eggs. Do not not get the potatoes when you visit. They are heaven. I eventually also had the carrot salad, which was almost like a slaw with this addictive tahini dressing. We stopped in here because it was close when it started raining. They have a really wide brunch selection and everything my group got was good. The meals cooked in cast irons like the Dutch Baby and Brat & Eggs were the best. The kitchen was kind of in the dining room which was really cool, we could watch them cook and smelled the great food while it was cooking. I took off a star because it took about an hour to get our food after sitting down. This was probably because they got a rush of people at the same time and the kitchen looked really small. Our 4th visit! Tasty comfort food. Our most recent visit last night the host was very nice regardless how busy it was. We sat at front window. A little tight but cozy, and we got seated right away. The waitress was very attentive to allergies of our party. We had the chicken cutlet, and a smashed burger. All very tasty. The chef even modified their calamari appetizer to accommodate a tree net allergy. As a backup option there is an outdoor "beer garden" in the back where guest can wait for a table, or have a quick snack and play table top games. They now have lobster rolls and steak skewers. I've been to Hearth & Harbor a few times now, and gotten take out 3 times. I must say it's nice to have truly great pizza on MDI. The quality is amazing. The flavor that pizza oven gives the pizzas is like none other around here. During the Spring & summer seasons they add several unique appetizers, and now are adding more entrees and pastas. Cocktails a delightful and not overly complicated. The beer and wine selection is great too. The staff is pleasant, professional, and timely. The dining room is gorgeous, and clean. It can get busy during the summer so I recommend getting there early. If you have to wait for a table, I recommend you do so. It will be worth the wait. Take out food holds well too. I've ordered several pizzas and appetizers that carried my 20 minute drive without losing quality. Also that lasagna and smoked chowder are two of the best bites on the island. read more

I've never had anything like it before, and each slice had my tastebuds buzzing - whether that was from the spicy oil or happiness (probably both) is debatable. As a matter of fact, it was/is so damn good, we decided to come back. The ingredients were fresh, the sauce was spot on, and as you can see from my photos, the cheesiness didn't disappoint. We also had budino for dessert that was better than your nonni's. Seriously. Maybe the best I've ever had. But, "who goes to a pizza restaurant twice while on vacation in Maine?" Honestly SO delicious. I'm vegetarian and got the Beech Hill Pie and Lasagna. Pizza crust was flavorful and just the right amount of chewy while still able to hold the toppings. Sauce was great, toppings were primo, just the right combination of herbs. Lasagna is seasonal, I think, but they heat it up in the wood fired over and my god it's so good. Tried to come here for dinner with my family and the host was incredibly rude, did not end up eating here. We said we had 5 people and he immediately was like "No, I already have big groups we can't do 5 people"in a very rude tone of voice. My dad saw a table nearby and before he could even say anything the host immediately was like "Don't tell me how to do my job, I have a waiting list right here, there's a waiting list for a reason", etc etc and he kept going off even though we never said anything to imply we were telling him how to do his job? We were just asking and all he had to say was "Oh sorry, that table is already reserved but I can put you on a waiting list!" But instead he was incredibly rude and acting as if he was better than us and as if we somehow insulted him. I was so shocked because I have never seen such a rude host before. I've worked in customer service before and this person was incredibly incompetent. Maybe it's because I'm from NYC, and people are usually very nice there. I was also highly suspicious that it was because we were Asian, as most of the people here are white. He ended up putting us on a waitlist and said it would be 30-40 mins, but we were so shocked and extremely uncomfortable so we looked for another restaurant and found one next door that was much kinder to us. read more

I hesitate to give Hearth & Harbor five stars, because it would only become more difficult to get in. Reservations are not offered, and this place is POPULAR, even in late season. We were seated at the window top, the only two remaining place settings in the restaurant at 5:45 PM. Those that followed waited up to an hour for the tables to turn, or left dejected to search out other dining options in town. I doubt very much anything close to the quality of this chow exists on all of Mount Desert Island. There is palpable energy to the restaurant that betrays the anticipation of its diners - this place hops. The service could not be more friendly, the cocktails are good, and the food is amazing! We had the acorn squash soup, beet salad, Margherita pizza, and a very special chicken pasta, but there were many more menu items we wish we could have tried. The pasta (made in-house) and wood-fired pizza were as good as any we had on recent trip to the Mediterranean. Very much look forward to returning. read more

The food was AMAZING. we had the Caesar salad (topped with anchovies which I've never send before-- very inventive!), the crab fritters which were served over some thousand island-esque aioli, and a pepperoni pizza. I am giving Harbor Table five stars because it is just a wonderful place. The food is modern and full of flavor. The ambiance is warm and welcoming. Lots of yummy things on the menu. I especially enjoyed the roast pork on toast. The pork was porchetta with a really nice cider mustard sauce. My husband ordered the wood fired burger, it was delicious. The bar selection is great. We really enjoyed our dinner and the friendly service. I hear that the brunch is wonderful too. It is a popular restaurant. Consider going early. But the wait is worth it! read more

We came here last night (group of 8) and had one of the best dinners we've ever had. This may seem like an exaggeration but we literally could not stop gushing over every dish. We tried: - both Caesar and beet salads - amazing - meat and cheese board - one of the most creative and delicious I have ever had (pictured) - 5 pizzas - omg The pizzas we will dream about were the spicy crab and the smoked haddock. The clam pie was also unreal. The wine list is great too. Please do yourself a favor and come here. It may not be the Maine faire you were originally looking for but you will not be disappointed. Five stars for the food, three stars for the service = an overall solid four stars. We were visiting from out of town and were told Hearth and Harbor was a must-see. I agree! We got the corn & leek chowder, cornbread, spicy fennel sausage pizza, and gemelli pasta. This was definitely enough food for 2 with plenty of leftovers. The hits were the cornbread and pizza. The cornbread was the BEST thing we ordered. A bit of a fusion dish with Southern x Asian flavors. Definitely recommend if you're a fan of crispy dried pork. The pizza was delicious as well. Apparently the most popular pizza is the triple chick farm. The chowder was fine and the pasta reminded us of chicken noodle soup, but it was still good. The only thing that could be improved was the wait time. We waited for almost 2 hours in the cold outside for a table for 2. There were heat lamps outside, but we couldn't figure out how to turn them on, and there weren't any servers outside to help. We did appreciate the board games to help break up the waiting time, but it was just so cold and buggy, we were exhausted by the time our name was called. We dropped by to visit an old friend. So aside from great company, and as a food aficionado, I can state without reservation that the Pastrami Hash and Eggs may be the best breakfast I've ever had at a restaurant. It is not a traditional breakfast, but it includes all the breakfast staples in an amazing combination. I stole some home fries from one of our party, and they were... again... some of the best I've ever had. These people are doing it right. Stumbled on this place during a weekend lads trip to Acadia Nat Park. We saw a large line waiting outside prior to 5pm when returning to our Airb&b from a hike. Decided to try the restaurant out spontaneously that night -- waited an 45min grabbing drinks next door, totally worth it.... Best restaurant highlight of our trip hands down. Also really liked the multiple vegetarian options on the menu. Coming from NYC we found a lot of the Bar Harbor downtown places were fairly touristy and while there were a couple gems, nothing matched the food excellence here. read more
