Mike the manager in the transmission department was extremely helpful in guiding me through a very tough transmission rebuild. Without him and his team this would've cost me double what I paid for in parts. If only I lived closer so I could enlist their services more often, sigh. read more

I had my 1967 Chris transmission rebuilt, they found unused parts 50 years old. Mike, Tony and the gang are so informative about what you may need since you're elbows deep in the engine. My 37' Sea Ray was in their shop for more than 2 months. Requested many times written estimates for the list of jobs I requested to be done. Jim said " yes I will get it to you, he never did. After they said the boat it completed and can be picked up I got a very high bill (shockingly high)- just a parts list and a total number of total hours. They claim they worked 107 hours on it. Cleaning risers, installing new water pumps and new mufflers. Maintenance of generator. Many items were not done. After putting it back into the water, hoses leaked water later, sea strainers were left loose (lots of water was going into the generator bilge) etc. They are refusing to provide me with an invoice list of the jobs completed and associated time for labor and parts It's a consumer right in WA. Looks like I have an attorney get involved and get my invoice itemized and labor hours charging etc. I estimate I was about at least 40% of the labor hours overcharged. I think they charge $130 per hour. We also will check the parts they listed which are supposed to be on the boat now. I will certainly not have them do any work on my boat again. Very bad experience. By the way, they charged me over $300 to move the boat from the haul out to their shop, which is about little over 5min walking. I think they charged me each way over $300. I think the charges will also be reviewed in detail. It's suspected of overcharging very much so. Nor did I get any old parts back which are listed on the parts list as new parts... (their invoice) They have a new service manager in the office, his name Russ. He gave me his cell phone number. I texted him pictures of the water leaks etc. I sopped b a heir office asking him if he received m text he responded that he blocked my number (without telling me), This company is all screwed up. What kind of people do they represent their company?? I am ready to take this to court and other departments any time when we are ready. Examine charging practice and following state of wa consumer rights law. I am really sure that I am not the only one with bad experience with this service department. My experience with the service department has been downright terrible! I felt like I overpaid and then at the end even got personally insulted after I asked the service manager to explain the hours. I took in my boat to get a kicker and down-rigger mounted. As time went on, I suspected the service manager was taking me on for a ride partly because the hours started to balloon such that he was quoting me over 4000 bucks towards the end. I decided to call another shop (that came highly recommended) and they quoted substantially less hours for the same jobs. I called him and said I didn't want any more work done on my boat. At this point, I just wanted to get my boat out of his shop and into the hands of someone I trusted. I expected to pay for 5 hours for mounting the kicker and the down-rigger (without the wiring) based on our conversations. Then over text he says it would be 7 hours, which then became 6 hours at the shop. When I asked him to explain why he was charging me 6 hours, he got angry and started to personally insult me at his office. He told me to just go and pay, and was very disrespectful. He also told me that "you people" don't know how to do anything with your hands, which did not sit right with me and a part of why I'm writing this review. I go home and realize that he actually charged me 130/hr on my bill, which is strange because he made it clear to me on multiple occasions that it was 120/hr. I have documented proof. I have attached a clipping of the quote where labor was quoted at 120/hr and clips of the receipt where I paid labor at 130/hr. Was this his last way of getting money out of me? I tried to take back a pot puller. I used it once and it was too slow, & you had to help it pull, a lot. It didn't work on my boat like advertised. I cleaned it up, clean like new. Even wrapped it back up in the bubble wrap it came in. They REFUSED to take it back! They REFUSED to even LOOK at it, to see that it didn't have a scratch on it. If I bought this same product off Amazon, I could have returned it, no questions asked. The manager I spoke with, Russ, was a total jerk about it. If I could give then zero stars, I would. RIPOFF! We are a nonprofit organization and we purchased a $2000 ZF Marine gear from Mike Vogt of Harbor Marine. It seized after 40 minutes and they refuse to replace or refund. They are in possession of our gear and they stole $2000 and they refuse to respond. read more

This situation stretches over the span of a year, but I will summarize as best I am able. I spent a great deal of money to move my boat from Texas to the Port of Everett. After arriving we approached Harbor Marine for advice. This quickly became a repower plan of action. We were advised that we needed more power than was currently in the boat. So we purchased a Yanmar 4jh4te 75 hp engine at Harbor's urging. For several months last year Harbor attempted to install this engine to no avail. They found that the stringers were interfering with the oil filter yet did not approach us about stringer work. Meanwhile our old engine was torn apart to ascertain if it could be rebuilt. As we neared the deadline to return the engine to Cascade Engine we ran into the trouble of Harbor not wanting to return it. Finally after much struggling, the engine was returned and our money refunded. The old engine, still torn asunder was placed in the bilge. Crestfallen, we were forced to dry dock the boat for a year to save enough to re-approach the situation. The engine left in the bilge would rust over this year as the bilge filled and was emptied by the automated bilge pump. When we returned to the project we once again approached Harbor Marine despite our misgivings. After speaking with the owner, and their service manager we came to a plan of action once more. The plan was to make a series of potential plans and then make a decision from there about which engine and installation plan we would take. So various engine sizes were looked at as well as various installation options. Once again all seemed to be going well, and we were happy with the service they were providing. As time wore on and curiosity began to strike and we set out to ask the opinions of other repower outfits. Simply to know what other individuals would do were they to work on the boat and to confirm that we did indeed need 56-75hp. We did NOT set up any alternative plans with anyone else. We simply sought advise and asked for other opinions; as the online sailing community advised we go with something closer to the original engine size, stating that Harwood Ives who had designed our boat felt that 30-33hp was sufficient for an auxiliary engine and had likely did so for a reason. Eventually this questioning came back to bite us in the keister. We were asked by Harbor Marine to NOT seek second opinions and to leave it completely in their hands after having already sought an opinion from a couple other repower specialists and having those conversations make it back to them. After having talked with one of their competitors at Shilshole it came back to them a couple of weeks later that we had spoken with this outfit. Again this happened before we were asked not to contact anyone else. This prompted the owner to decide that he would not repower our boat, leaving us with no repower plan in place. This action seemed a rather out of character maneuver. In no other industry are you advised NOT to get a second opinion. House repair, auto repair, bodily medical work and more all advise you to seek a second opinion, firm in the belief that they have the right of it. Harbor seems so intimidated by second opinions that it caused them to drop our repower even though we had made no other plans with any other outfits, and had only sought advice. Now our boat is stuck in the Everett Marina work yard with no repower plan and no options in Everett as Harbor is the ONLY Yanmar dealership there. This once again leaves us feeling ever so slightly defeated and disheartened about the boat. I have nothing but the utmost respect for Steve Welch, his attitude and help has been nothing but amazing. Their gear manager Mike is likewise amazing. But as a whole, as an outfit and company I could not in good faith recommend them to anyone for out of the ordinary repower work; though their store is simply amazing and would alone receive 5 star review. Their refusal to allow a person to seek a secondary opinion is ill seeming and in general a large turn off. Second opinions are the consumers number one tool to ensure they are getting what they need, want and will be comfortable with. It allows the consumer to find peace with expensive work/procedures and in general is advised in every field. I am saddened, truly saddened, by the owner's decision in this. No contact was made with anyone after we were asked not to. We did exactly what we were asked and ceased asking for other opinions; yet we were punished for doing so before we were spoken to about it. Overall, the fact that in several months they could not install the engine they advised us to buy coupled with the fact that when we came back we did exactly as we were asked and yet were punished for it leaves me no choice but to give them a single star review. I am certain others have had marvelous shining experiences with them and I do no discount those experiences, but mine was not shining. read more

Sorry to say but, the the service department has all new service managers that I know of. Not sure about the mechanics. Quality work has gone south and service tries to sell things you don't need and even flat out lies about it. Very unfortunate because the retail store is pretty tough to beat. Has an outstanding supply section for boaters and sales seem to care about their customers. Really sad about the service department although Mike in the transmission shop is straight up and great guy to deal with. I feel for him and his crew. read more

We visited these guys first when they were in the other location. Back then we thought they were awesome. Stumbled on new location after visiting Scuttlebutt Brewery. They have Everything boat wise you could imagine! All we have is a 9ft zodiac at the moment, but it was exciting to see all the future possiblities! The guys were super friendly, funny and knowledgable. Right next door the have the Fisherman's Market and Grill Grocery. They were closing for the evening, so we didnt get a good chance to check it out. They also feature art from the Art Loft Sisters. Coffee, Soda, fresh food prepared, we will be back! I want to buy one of the big maps of the sound! Once we are ready to get on the water, this will be our go to place! read more

This place was by far the absolute worst company Ive ever had to deal with. I took my boat in for the installation of some electronic equipment that was purchased from them as well and they had no clue what they were doing. I had to take the boat back to them 8 times for them to try to get everything to work and on the 8th time they said sorry but they never had anything like this happen before. The install guy was a complete idiot and the service manager along with the owner would not do anything to compensate me for my troubles except for they offered not charge me for a nema cable that they replaced thinking it would fix the problem which in fact did not resolve anything. I ended up taking it to another place and they were able to get everything working without any issues. Harbor marine even had on their site that they specialize in electronic installations. I think that would be a far cry from the truth. Avoid this place if at all possible if you need any electrical equipment installed. They are able to sell you the equipment but best of luck getting it to work correctly read more

The only reason I am giving this place a star at all is because of the kind staff who has to work under the owner, Lauren. Lauren is a CON! He is full of lies and he is only after your money and will try to destroy your boat with his lack of knowledge on boat building. He nearly ruined our brand new boat build. After we showed up unannounced to take our boat away from his yard, we caught him red handed. In the middle of modifying our Konrad lower end unit "to make it work" after much of their own research. Things weren't right. They were pissed at us the moment we walked in there. They treated my husband and my family just awful. We started taking pictures, calling manufacturers with VIN numbers to get down to the bottom of Lauren and Jim's (the service manager) LIES. The more we called him out on his bluff, the more angry he grew. Turns out, he took a lower end unit off a different boat build in his yard and attached it to our boat. Then tried to modify it to make it work. He never informed us of any of his shady plans and told us he ordered a brand new lower end unit. That was very very easy to track by the VIN#. Not only did he steal another boats parts but he over charged us for the price of a new one. A new one is about 9k and he happily charged us 12k. I told Lauren that I felt like he wasn't being honest to us. He put his hand in my face and told me I can not talk to him that way and nearly kicked me out of his yard. After almost two weeks of trying to take our boat away from the yard. We were ready to fight him with a maritime attorney and had documents for him to sign. We finally agreed to his sea trial and watched him pat himself on his back for his (modified) work. After the head honcho over at the Konrad manufacturer got involved and threatened to cut off Harbor Marine as dealers. Lauren came to his senses and agreed to take off the lower end unit and give us our boat back. We drove the boat back to California with a plastic garbage bag over the exposed lower end unit. We went there expecting to close our final bill we had last received for 15k. After all that we had been through, Lauren took his time (a few more days) adding up the last week of HELL's final bill, a unexpected total of 46k. I could have stood there fighting with him over it but my husband just wanted to have his boat in his hands and get the hell out of town. Far far away from Harbor Marine. Turns out the lower end unit was just not going to work at all for our 29' commercial Radon. After dealing with harbor marine and a very expensive boat build. We could not afford to keep going. Two years later the boat is finally at the place it should have been from the start. In southern CA with the experts at seaboard marine. Our ending experience with Lauren at Harbor Marine was dreadful, discouraging and down right F$&KED UP!!! read more

While they have a great selection of boat parts and nice staff their overheads are absolutely ridiculous! I came in to purchase a marine fuel pump that I had on hold and they tried to charge nearly $300. West Marine and several other shops sell it for around $180 but just didn't have it in stock. The parts manager actually looked the pump up and agreed that was the normal price! I asked him what the typical cost markup and he said "Uhhhh.....it varies", implying they price whatever they feel like. This is ridiculous, I went down the street to West Marine and purchased it for $180 and got it shipped within a few days. The staff is great and helpful but their engine part markups are outrageous. Take your business elsewhere if you can afford to wait. read more

Dropped our boat off for repair to have the trailer wench fixed for our weekend boating trip on Thursday. Harbor Marine said it would be ready by the next day and they closed at 6pm that Friday. Arrive at 4:39pm to pick up the boat (the next day) but was told the service center was closed at 4:30pm and they are trying to contact the manager. Waited 30 minutes then after asking them what the status was, we were told they needed us to call first to tell them we would want to get it by the next business day in order to have it ready for us. Ummm... not sure of this business style... typically when a business says they can have the job completed by a certain time, then you say "ok" and drop off the boat, and then pick it up by that time, the boat is ready. No need for the consumer to call and confirm that dropping off the boat meant to actually provide the service. Staff was less than professional- making jokes that they took the boat out for a spin first causing the delay- Completely ridiculous. Staff is happy to be getting off in the next hour for their weekend plans while ours have been ruined by trusting the wrong business. Thank Harbor Marine. Lesson learned. read more

My wife and I are live a boards and have been using Harbor Marine for over seven years. I have all but abandoned West Marine for any supplies unless Harbor is out of something I need now. For the most part there are some very knowledgeable people that work behind the counter. However, there people and customer service skills are extremely lacking. The store is well equipped from a supply point of view with most everything that one could need. If you don't find it, they can order and have the parts there in a reasonable time. I have not used there service department. The one time I tried I could never get there service manager to return my calls. They may have improved this since then. I have had many people use their service people that can handle virtually everything from service to full rebuilds and have had good work done. In the long run, I would recommend Harbor Marine. Be prepared to deal with their staff, but once you get past their attitude, they are knowledgeable, but not always helpful without a little push. read more

Best selection of marine supplies in the area. Usually better prices than West Marine. Customer service is unpredictable. Sometimes staff is great. Sometimes they scatter when a customer walks in. It's kind of funny to observe it when that happens. As long as you know what you want or are willing to be patient while searching for someone to help you, it's the best option at the Everett Marina. read more
