Not sure what's up with sailboat guy giving a bad review but I can say that Tim is the most honest service provider I have ever met. I have been doing business with him for almost two years now and he is always honest and fair. When I decided I was going to restore my boat myself, he offered lots of great advice and even helped me out when I got in over my head( I knew nothing about shaft seals). All of the work he has done for me has been top notch and I will always send my family and friends to Tim for both yacht sales and service... it really is sad when unreasonable people post negative reviews because they have unrealistic expectations.

I see a couple reviews of folks who weren't satisfied or happy with their experiences with Cross Water Yachts/Tim's Boat Repair. I imagine that might be because they don't like straight talk and hard truths. Boat ownership is expensive. If you own a boat and find that a repair/fix/upgrade ends up being more than expected...Welcome to boat ownership! We have been boat owners for many decades...sailboats in particular. So when we decided to make the change to a power boat, we were very fortunate to find Cross Water. Tim and his Team were great. I appreciate honesty and straight talk. They gave us full info on the boat we chose - the good, the bad and the ugly...fortunately there was no ugly! HaHa! We've owned our 1968 Ed Monk for about a month, Tim and his Team have stayed connected with us throughout and still here when we have questions or need assistance. I have owned 5 boats and never got the attention nor service that I get from this Team. I highly recommend Cross Water Yachts if you are in the market for a boat. Tim came out to quote a simple job on my boat trailer, I supplied him with the list of parts he needed to complete the job and the online site in which to procure the parts and after a week and a half and several emails asking for the quote he answered with the phrase "parts ordered" then the following day sent another email that stated, "I am going to have to pass on this job. I don't have the time to do it properly and you can order the parts yourself and install. I apologize, but this turning into a difficult order on the web site." did I mention I sent him all the blueprints of each part he needed and where to buy them? Completely wasted 2 weeks of boating and crabbing for me. read more

Three Strikes and He's Out of here. Tim, owner and mechanic for Tim's Yacht Repair is a nice person when you meet him. I have an old sail boat that is new to me. I asked Tim to help me with the diesel motor. On our first meeting, Tim informed me he is an experienced mechanic, He hates it when the boat owner tells him what is wrong and what to fix. Owners do not know what to fix. So he said, tell me whats wrong and I'll fix the problem. I decided to give this a try. I had leaks on the top of the engine near the injectors. He agreed to diagnose the problem and fix them. This took 3 weeks. I had to contact him and ask for progress reports. Each time it was the parts had not arrived, till they did, then he was busy with other boats. He eventually installed washers under the injectors (atomizers in British speak) and a new valve cover gasket. Received the message "Boat is fixed." Took the boat out of the slip to empty the holding tank. 15 minutes of motor use It purred like a kitten. I was elated. Then smoke started pouring out of the engine space. The engine temp gauge showed over heating, and there was a loud TICK sound, which became quicker as I advanced the throttle. Called Tim. Boat not fixed. Explained what I observed. Tim "I'll take a look at it". When? Too busy today, in a couple of days. Couple of days turned into another couple of weeks. No progress report offered. Called him and reminded him I have a planned cruise with out of town guests August 1st. "Plenty of time. The boat will be 'Rock Solid' by then." 2 weeks went by, no contact from Tim.. I texted him and learned "we are waiting for parts". Week goes by 2 weeks left before the cruise, Inquiry text to Tim and reply "wrong parts shipped" should be in by Thursday". Friday text inquiry (1 week left to cruise) - Got parts but too busy. I'll have it done next Monday. I schedule trip to boat on Tuesday to make test run, text Tim boat not ready yet. Repaired Tuesday. I arrive Wednesday (Got his bill on Tuesday and brought - good faith check - to pay him). and take boat out into Possession Sound to test the repairs. Boat alarms go off after 15 minutes of use. Motor over heating. No smoke. But not "Rock Solid" Contact Tim tell him observations. I'll look at it. Too Busy Thursday. Call Friday. Difficult telephone discussion as He's too busy. I reminded him of his promises. He informed me "It is an old boat. Can not expect him to make it new." Not new Tim, but repaired and reliable seems reasonable to me. Tim texts me Saturday AM as I'm driving the 250 miles to the boat for our cruise. "Your motor is fine. You will have no problems getting in and out of the marina. Keep an eye on the temps. You will be fine." Tells me he was at the boat a 6AM. Text of boat condition was at 6:40 AM. 40 minutes to test the engine. Should be ok - hope. Get to boat with my out of town guests. Do the routine fluid level and safety checks. Fill the fresh water cooling tank with 3 quarts of water - nearly empty. Engine fires up. No smoke, Sounds good. Leave dock and marina Temps above 180 but just. Have a great sail. Head back to Marina. Try to start motor, Nothing happens. Will not crank. Dodging boats in river, check fuel, check wires, wiggle wire on starting motor. Finally engine fires. Quickly head for slip. Engine temps over 190. Temp alarm starts to sound. Make it to the slip and shut down engine as temp gauge shows 230. Rock Solid the motor wasn't. Cruise was canceled. Got the bill from Tim by the time I got home. 1.5 hours charged. No explanation. Can only guess he charged me double plus, for asking him to be there Saturday to do the work that should have been completed in the 30 day period when there was "Plenty of time. The boat will be 'Rock Solid' by then." Draw you own conclusions. Tim is no longer on my call list. read more

I read the two previous reviews and thought that they seemed unfair based on my experiences with Tim. After a string of unsatisfying mechanics doing work on my boat, I hired Tim on a recommendation from a fellow boater. Tim was friendly and courteous. We discussed the problem and potential solutions, and decided on a plan of action. When the job was completed, my wife was very happy that we found somebody who we were happy to pay to get the job done. Over the past seven or eight years, we have had Tim do numerous jobs on our boat, and have been satisfied that the work would be done right. If a problem persisted, it got worked again. On a few occasions, we had communication issues, but Tim and I have worked that out and stay in close contact through texts and phone calls while a job is being worked. That seems to work well. Our last job was an engine replacement that we are very happy with. read more

We brought them a well maintained boat with no known transmission or drivetrain issues. They replaced our engine mounts but did not perform the alignment in the water afterward. Less than 20 operating hours later, our port transmission failed while we were underway in the middle of Puget Sound with our 3-year-old and newborn baby onboard. What followed was more than $25,000 in damage, repairs, towing, haul-out, inspections, and expert review. Multiple surveyors and marine professionals have since confirmed our findings: the failure was tied to misalignment after the engine mount work. This did not just cost us money. It took away over a year of boating with our family. We tried repeatedly to work with Your Boat Shop and hoped Dirk would take accountability, or at minimum engage in understanding what happened. Instead, Dirk declined to participate in the investigation and ignored our calls. The burden of investigating and repairing the damage fell entirely on us. This was also not an isolated concern. We had referred friends to Your Boat Shop, and their boat was also damaged after work performed there. They ultimately had to have the work corrected by CSR Marine, over $10,000 in damages. Mistakes can happen. What matters is how a business responds when they do. In our case, the response was deeply disappointing. I strongly urge other boat owners not to be fooled by the great reviews or attractive pricing. Based on our experience, I would not recommend Your Boat Shop for engine mount, alignment, shaft, transmission, or other drivetrain-related work. The risk and cost are far too high.

I hired Your Boat Shop to replace the engine mounts on my motor vessel. Less than 20 operating…read morehours later, my port transmission (w/ 1,000 hours) failed while underway, ultimately resulting in more than $25,000 in repairs. What makes this especially concerning is that before the engine mount replacement, a pre-purchase survey and gearbox oil analysis found no evidence of transmission distress, abnormal wear metals, drivetrain vibration, or shaft-related issues. The transmission failure occurred only after Your Boat Shop performed the mount replacement. Following the failure, Harbor Marine, a ZF-authorized service facility, documented approximately 0.010" of coupling misalignment and found the port shaft seized in the cutlass bearing. An independent SAMS-accredited marine surveyor later documented extensive internal transmission damage and concluded that the transmission-to-shaft coupling was grossly out of alignment following the engine mount replacement (SAMS report attached). The surveyor's opinion was that the failure sequence was precipitated by shaft misalignment after the recent mount replacement. What concerns me most is that this was not the only alignment issue associated with this shop. During my claim investigation, I reviewed documentation from CSR Marine involving another vessel serviced by Your Boat Shop. CSR found significant engine misalignment and concluded that the shafts appeared to have been reinstalled without properly aligning the engines, requiring substantial corrective work--over $10,000. CSR images and cost to repair attached. Equally disappointing was the response after the failure. Your Boat Shop was notified and given the opportunity to participate in determining the root cause but declined to become involved. The burden of investigating the failure fell entirely on me. Although my insurance carrier could not cover the loss because the work predated my policy, they still paid for towing, haul-out, and independent expert inspections needed to determine what happened. A routine engine mount replacement was followed by documented shaft misalignment, a seized cutlass bearing, catastrophic transmission damage, and more than $25,000 in repair costs. Based on my experience, the independent findings, and the shop's unwillingness to participate in the investigation, I have no confidence in the workmanship or accountability demonstrated by Your Boat Shop or Chris Tomlinson Marine Services and would not trust either company with any work on my vessel.

Brian was thoughtful and respectful when working with me, even though I'm a girl and don't know boats. He actually complimented me on my research and said he learned something by working on this strange configuration. He's a straight-shooter, no BS, no attitude, no drama kinda guy. He replaced the old weird volcano thru-hulls including relocating some of them to more convenient locations. He did a swell job on the bottom paint. He was easy to work with. And his prices were fair and reasonable. If you have a weird situation or just need the usual bottom paint, definitely go talk to him. Another BIG perk is he has a space at the Port of Everett which is less per day than the Port's spaces -- that means that if you need to do something to the boat while it's out of the water you can utilize his scaffolding.

I used the boat a few times and noticed cavitation on turns and in following seas. I examined the cavitation plate relationship to the bottom of the boat and it looked 4 inches to high, I took pictures and showed them to the service manager and sales staff, they dismissed it and said the installation was proper and pretty much said there is nothing they would do. I had trips planned and fishing to do so I used the boat as it was as under most conditions it was fine and performed well. The BF 250 will basically shut down as a self protection function if it senses over rev or cavitation. I had a qualified Honda service tech look at it the other day and he said the installation was not correct and it should have had a 30 inch lower unit not a 25. The modification will cost me $3800 but I am willing to pay it in order to have a safe boat in following seas. I suggest buying your boat elsewhere!

I had to initiate every time. -Drove from CA to Seattle to make the sale happen and he told me we couldn't move forward without specific documentation that I thought I had on the boat. After the 13 hour drive, I turned over the boat and couldn't find it. Went to my storage 20 minutes away and went through every box and every document I had (Looked for ~2 hours). Received a text that said, "Where are you?" I said, "Looking for the documentation." His reply? "Oh, I grabbed that a few hours ago." SMH -After this time suck, I went to his office to sign paperwork and he started complaining (rudely) that he's been there since 7 or 8 in the morning (it was about 7pm). I had been up and driving since about 4am, so my empathy was certainly waning. I quickly realized he was drunk, so I held my tongue, finished what I had to do, and got out of there. My friend and I had many items to give to the buyer and he just sat staring with his cocktail and cigar while we put them in his office. -After this debacle, we had to deal with the bank. I had signed over Power of Attorney, so he should have been able to expedite this. He fumbled through this process and I ended up having to contact the bank myself. He couldn't figure out who to talk to, and I ended up setting up the payoff and having the deal expedited. -Lastly, I was given a closing statement that said I was to receive about $98. A couple weeks went by and I asked him about this sum. His response was, "You've eaten it up and besides that I gave you a deal on the commission so let's just call it even." No explanation on the "eaten it up" and even though I appreciated the slight lowering of the commission percentage, it was not what we agreed on.

Stay Away he's rude and threatening didn't complete the job and threatened to bash my head in and sick his dog on me. I had a simple dewinterize a jetski and service the trailer couldn't even get that right and charged me $750 brought a dead battery because he was such a bad mechanic after he installed the battery he said to start the jetski and it went rogue on the lake by itself ...
