I apologize for the tardiness of this well overdue incident report but you can imagine with midterms like mine, I haven't had the time until now to do so. I am a full time student in the middle of getting my masters over here at UCM and my fiance and I decided to stay in Morro Bay for my spring break which was the week of March 23rd. We had previously stayed at the Harbor House Inn back in February and we really fell in love with the beach out there. We loved that Harbor House Inn was within walking distance from the local areas and had started to plan our wedding there. My fiancee owns his own construction company and I am paralegal so we do pretty okay for ourselves. We had met up with a wedding planner out of Cayucos and had intentions of buying all of our guest reservations at the Harbor House Inn for our wedding in November, that is how much we liked it and we felt like the hotel could use the business. I mentioned to a friend of mine that, even though Harbor House Inn did not have the best ratings nor was it the most up to date, the service and the location really make up for it. I bragged about how the pet policy was incredibly manageable and they clearly care about the comfort of their guests because they are super accommodating. I had called HHI 3 times inquiring about staying again (on 2/10/26, 3/4/26, and 3/11/26) and I will attach the call log. I was always transparent about having 3 pets and it was my biggest reason for wanting a room with a patio, specifically the exact room we got last time since it was at the end of the hotel. It was more private and easier to walk our dogs since the room was right by the sidewalk. 3 times I called them letting them know this information as I made the reservation. They confirmed that they got the details and that they would give me the exact room I requested. We checked in on March 23rd and intended on staying until March 28th. The day of our check in, the hotel phone number texts me and asks what time our ETA would be. I told them 4pm and I asked if we were set for our exact room as requested. The person on the phone let me know that we got an entirely different room. That really frustrated me because I literally made sure to book the room I wanted and went out of my way to receive confirmation over the phone that my request would be fulfilled. Naturally, I express my frustration over text. They apologize and try to remedy it by giving us the room next to the room we requested. Not exactly what I wanted but it came with the patio which is what I was most concerned about so that was fine. We arrive to check in around 4:30pm. The lady at the check in counter looks a little frazzled. She asked if I was the one she was speaking to over text, to which I responded yes. I don't know if she was just trying to save face or not deal with me, but she simply handed me the keys to the room after taking down my credit card information and said enjoy your stay. There were no questions. No forms I had to sign. Nothing after that. Just like the last time we stayed, which was the weekend of February 7th-8th, no questions asked. Maybe an hour later, I came back up to the front and asked why our PS5 didn't want to connect to the wifi but she was terribly awkward. She ended up giving me the staff wifi which I did appreciate but I felt this came out of not wanting to deal with me. 3 days after our check in, an entire 3 days, this detail is extremely important here. 3 days after our check in, I sent a text to that same hotel number we communicated with prior to check in asking why my room had not been serviced after we agreed they would come the afternoon of March 26th to service it. They replied with "can you please come to the office when you are here. We need to talk to you." I am immediately confused. I inquired about why my room wasn't cleaned and I received this text? Very strange. My fiance and I went over to the office. No one was in there at first, but then about five minutes later, some homely looking gentlemen came up to us. He says he's the manager and he starts accusing us of trying to lie about our pets. He says "we know you have 3 dogs", and keeps repeating himself and had the tone insinuating we were trying to pull a fast one on them. Mind you, the room we got was literally right across from the lobby, how they thought we were trying to be sneaky, I don't know, but I do not think having 3 pets with us couldn't have been any more obvious. There were two other guests that came into the lobby after us. I was very confused, I told him about how I had called multiple times and that on my end, my reservation with Hotels.com reflects my added on pets. He starts raising his voice at me, doesn't even care that there are other guests in the room, and says "well then, show me! Show me your reservation." A Hidden Gem in Morro Bay! We recently had some work done at our home in Morro Bay and decided to stay at the Harbor House--and what a great choice it was! This centrally located hotel on Main Street is a clean, updated, and thoughtfully designed spot that made our temporary stay feel like a mini getaway. The views of Morro Rock and the sunsets from the property are absolutely beautiful--truly a sweet surprise. What really stood out, though, was the staff. Had a great stay at this lovely place. I had an upstairs room that was in a part of the hotel detached from the main building. This was great as it was quiet and I had a partial view of the rock and the beautiful sunsets. My room was spacious, the big king bed was comfortable. A little balcony let me keep fr sh air in and the heater worked well at night. The mini fridge and microwave came in handy. The best part was how clean my room was and how friendly and helpful TJ was when I wanted to extend my stay. This location is steps away from the shops and restaurants downtown and the waterfront. Truly enjoyed our 5 day stay in Morro Bay! Our dog was the most important part of the trip and Harbor House catered to all our needs. Air conditioning, a fan, amazing housekeeping! A nice green patch in the back for our dog to do his business, a small welcome bag with treats and poop bags, and a wash station (although for smaller dogs). [We just went 1 min down the street to Lemos Pet and paid $17 to use their wash station with soap, towels, blow dryer, etc] Overall, Harbor House was quiet, super easy access to the Embarcadero, and we would love to stay there again! read more

Solid little motel right near the main strip. We stayed in a ground floor back row so no view of the ocean, but something to keep in mind if we come back again. Simple check in/check out process and a kind front desk - rooms were clean and new, although a little bare (no bedside table lamps, but that's a nitpick). My best friend is addicted to Morro Bay because when it's sunny, it's beautiful and because you are seriously close to otters. I mean really, those otters are all over the place in the water and they are so punchably cute. Plus there's the Morro Bay Rock which just sits there majestically and come sunrise or sunset, it cuts a romantic figure with a sailboat drifting off the shore. You can't help but take a great picture of it from almost anywhere in town. So my bestie picked this hotel for us because she wanted a patio with a view of the rock. It was a good choice. Even though it was cold, I liked having an outdoor patio with chairs to enjoy the sunset. I really loved how the room had real mugs with hotel branding for your morning hotel room coffee. I know that's a weird thing to take note of, but I've spent the last month living out of my suitcase, going from hotel to hotel and most places don't count on the kindness of their customers to not steal their hotel branded mugs. Usually it's styrofoam cups, but this was a nice touch. The hotel is clean, located in a not too sketch area. Even though there is a liquor store across the street with definitely sketchy characters, they don't come over. This room is perfect for the price! Right next to a bottle store, walking distance to everything else. The ocean view rooms give you a great view of the rock with a little balcony to sit on. The beds are super comfortable and the rooms are modern. They are very dog friendly, each time we've checked in with our dog they give us doggie bags and treats! Rating this entire experience was difficult. I honestly really struggled between a 3 or 4 star rating. I'll give you a breakdown. Pet friendliness/accomodations Room (cleanliness, furnishings, etc) Communication Attention to detail of check in Location We brought a pet and they gave her a cute welcome bag at check in. I LOVE cute and thoughtful details like this, so that scored points with me. The pet area leaves a LOT to be desired. It consists of 2 maybe 10x6 patches of grass against a super busy street. Our dog was so distracted and had a hard time lol. It felt confusing to me as dogs walking around the neighborhood would have access to the area too making it not a "hotel exclusive" to charge guests an additional fee. We booked about a week in advance and let them know we had a pet. To ME, the logical place to put someone who is specifically reserving a room with a PET would be at the VERY least in a room easily accessible to the pet area (near one corner of the property out in front against the street). We ended up on the farthest opposite corner on the second floor. ‍ Normally not an issue, but with a pet, definitely a pretty big inconvenience (both for grass access and for bringing her little crate into and out from the room). The room didn't smell like it had pets in it before, although there were half a dozen visible stains on the carpet. It was decently clean and not too run down for being a beach hotel. My general opinion on beach hotel is that they are run down and in need of updates/a good refresh. No different here. They did have a really large fridge inside which was a nice addition. Also the layout was odd: you walk in the door and the bathroom sink is immediately to the left as part of the entryway and the toilet and shower with a door beyond that. Then you walk into the room. Was quite close to the shop in Morro Bay as well as other pet friendly places. read more

What a fantastic stay we had at the Harbor House Inn. We stayed in the Jellyfish suite, and it was stunning with the best view of the rock. Spacious and tastefully decorated, this room checked all of the boxes of attention to detail. The bed was the most comfortable bed I have ever slept in at a hotel, and we enjoyed all of the amenities. The staff were kind and attentive and personally showed us to our room to point out all of the special features. Opening the windows brought in a lovely breeze, and all of the sounds of sea life made us feel like we were part of the seaside community. We do appreciate that this is a pet friendly hotel. They do not have breed or size restrictions like many hotels in the area. This is an absolute no frills hotel. We were disappointed that the staff that we loved back in November appear to no longer work here. It appears there has been a complete overhaul of staff from what we experienced last visit. The beds are very uncomfortable- they are very soft- if you like soft, then this is the hotel for you. Hubby and I both had the worst back pain here. The second night my hubby put 1 mattress on the ground- that helped a bit. As an added bonus, my sweet Fuzzy was able to join me on the bed. These beds are super high, and she isn't able to jump up on them. They do give you a little swag bag when you check in for your pup, last time it had yummy treats inside that Fuzzy absolutely loved, and we were able to buy her more inside the gift shop in the lobby. This visit there was 1 Costco brisket inside and and a doggy poop bag holder with poop bags, they now have the hotel name on them. The room also had cups and mugs with their name on them- you can also now buy these in the gift shop as well. They now have beach things you can rent at the front desk- should you want, need anything. We do like that we are able to book a ground level room since we have a senior dog who can't climb stairs. We also like the patio area. There is a picnic table out there as well. However, you can hear the people above you. It sounded like they were bowling up above us. Also, 1 of the nights there were some guys above us who were sitting on their balcony drinking beers and cussing. We had the slider open originally to get the refreshing ocean breeze, but we didn't want to hear their conversation, and they kept chucking their bottle caps into our patio and laughing about it. I could see that 1 might have been a mistake... but 6, this was no accident.... plus the laughing Check-in time is 3pm, at 2:05 we received a text saying for $25 we could check in early. Check-out time is 11. We checked in just after 3, we were visiting with another couple who were interested in meeting our dog. We were telling them our favorite restaurant was Taco Temple, and they just have to go eat there. They will love it. The older woman working the desk interrupts us to say she hates Taco Temple. She said cabbage doesn't belong on a taco. Not sure why she had to interrupt us. We were having a nice conversation while she was checking other people in. This was the best deal in the area when we first were looking into where to stay. The staff is friendly and attentive. The location can be a little noisy only because it's on the corner of two main streets. This location places you in the heart of many things to do, and is completely walkable. There's plenty to do here. During Fall time, there were hardly any crowds. Great coffee shops with yummy food are nearby, as well as restaurants, bottle shops, sweet shops, and a DIY car wash. The room is very basic, but it's clean, and no odd odors. We didn't mind the basics because we were always out. The bed was comfortable as was the temperature. You can get extra towels if you go to the front desk. We would return. Extra bonus knowing I can bring my dog next time. read more

We found a great deal for Tuesday before Thanksgiving at this pet-friendly location. Price was a little lower through a booking site than directly through the inn, which they would be wise to correct, but both options were reasonable. It's an old-school motel but a little updated and spotless. The Pine-Sol smell in our pet-friendly spot reminded me of my mom's house so it didn't bother me, though it might be a bit much for a sensitive nose. The room was a good size, with king bed, bistro-type table and two chairs, and a nice-sized beverage cooler. Small bathroom counter and toilet-shower room but big enough for two, and a small dressing area near the sink. One thing the room is could use is a sofa or some armchairs, and there is room for them. We sat on the bed to watch TV, and thankfully it was comfortable. Desk attendant was friendly, and the inn is very communicative - we got informative texts at booking, before check in, and after arrival. The attendant answered my questions with directions to walk to the Embarcadero and a driving/parking recommendation to Morro Rock. Treats, info about local pet needs (park, vet, restaurants), and a poop bag holder were provided for our furry family member. We were looking for a pet friendly hotel while staying in Morro Bay for a couple nights. This is, by far, the best stay we've ever had. The staff were extremely helpful, friendly and well informed. They greeted us with a nice bag of treats and info for our dog which made our stay that much nicer. The price was very reasonable and they have an additional fee for pets which we were informed of prior to making our reservation. It was very quiet, clean and we had a view of the water from our balcony on the upper floor. The bed was extremely comfortable and the fridge was larger than expected for a hotel stay. Coffee was provided and I was able to request "decaf" which was provided quickly and courteously. This next bit might not mean much to some folks but to me it was pleasantly surprising and I was more than grateful...I can't tell you how many times I begin to shower away from home and I can't read the labels of the products provided. This hotel had "larger text" on their shampoo, conditioner and body gel that made it effortless to read. I didn't know that it was as big a deal as it turned out to be. It was just another reason to fall in love with this place. All the guests were considerate with their pets as well. The area provided for dogs to do their "business" was close by and had a choice of grass or gravel (which my dog appreciated). I look forward to coming back here time and time again. Great value. I rented a room with a super comfy king bed and 4 pillows. The room overall was clean and spacious, large enough for me to roll out a yoga mat and store my bicycle, and still have a ton of extra space to move around. I was able to park right in front of the door and unload my stuff, so super convenient. Proximity to downtown, the waterfront, the beach and Morro Rock is great! Totally walkable. Also very nice ceiling fan and ability to open the windows all the way for fresh air. If you're looking for a quiet, peaceful place to stay, this place is mixed. The guests were great, no issues there, and the inn enforces a 10pm quiet time, but because the inn is right on Main St., it was loud (my room was on the street side so try to ask for a room on the opposite side away from Main St.) My biggest issue and why I didn't give it 5 stars is the the light from the street was super bright, and there is no window covering where it is so the room was flooded with light at night. Not good. The woman at the front desk was pretty apathetic about that too, which didn't feel good. They definitely need to fix the light at night issue. The window glass is textured bathroom glass so at least it provided privacy. I ended up using my single window car sun shade on the second and third nights which helped a lot. There was also a leaky valve in the bathtub faucet and a little bit of black mold on upper window frame which need to be addressed. read more

Well our pup was greeted more respectfully than us to start with, (he got a care package). The location is excellent, the room clean with microwave, heater, fan, coffee, fridge, and comfy bed. Staff not so friendly, we traveled 6 hours from Mexico and arrived to a grumpy and tired front desk person who says, "your here early" in an angry voice, we asked if that's a problem, she continued to be rude and condescending throughout the check in process. Customer service is incredibly important to us otherwise this place would have received a much higher review from us. read more

This is a warning to anyone who's thinking about booking this place for a stay. My boyfriend and I booked two nights over Memorial Day weekend for $660. It would have been ok if we didn't have such a big bug issue. The day after the first night I started noticing all these bug bites around me. They were swollen, painful, and itchy. If we had noticed early, we would have maybe gotten someone's help. We had plans all day to be at a family's house so we only came back to sleep. I had contacted them to resolve this issue because $660 is a ridiculous price to pay for this to happen. Literally, the only saving grace is the place being pet-friendly. read more

It's definitely a no frills hotel, but it's also one of the only hotels that are dog friendly and for my fiancé and I, that's a must. They do charge a pet fee but it was reasonable. I was delighted to see there was a little bag waiting for us, with treats and a little poop bag. I didn't get a pick of the room, we only stayed for one night but it was nice! The bed was big and soft with a nice, fluffy comforter and the room was clean, my only real requirements lol. I did expect the bathroom to be a little bigger, the picture looked like it had a tub, but there was only a standing shower. My fiancé checked us in so my only interaction with hotel staff was asking for a few more towels, but the lady I spoke to said as really kind and accommodating. If you're looking for a hotel for a quick stay and you don't mind there's not a hot tub or extra amenities, this is a good choice! But again, no frills lol. read more

We like this hotel because in the past they are VERY pet friendly. This more recent stay the woman is tolerable to dogs. I booked the reservation through hotels.com I didn't realize I was reserving the ocean view 2nd level. Both my husband and I were using canes at check in. When we asked if we could have a downstairs we were told we reserved ocean view and only possible from second level. So the fact that there is no handicap access to the ocean view seems a bit discriminatory and not accommodating to those with mobility needs read more

We recently came to morro bay for the first time and I'm very pleased with my stay at the harbor house inn. We had a few hiccups but the staff were awesome to get those issues fixed. The overall layout was nice. I like how it felt a bit updated. I am Very particular about where I stay and how clean it is and I was content with the place. It felt pretty clean and they offer coffee, fridge, and microwave which is nice. They are very dog friendly and gave us a treat bag for our service animal which was so nice. The hiccups that occurred were that the dog washing station water temperature was burning hot.. i burned my hand trying to wait for the water to cooldown but they had to fix the water (which wow how amazing they have this, unfortunately we have a cane corso and she's still a puppy but at 5 months she pretty much barely fit so maybe in the future being mindful about folks with big dogs?) they offer beach rental equipment which is very cool but by the time we wanted beach towels it was 5pm and they didn't have any available as they were being washed so maybe ensuring there's enough for everyone to rent? And then when you request room clean, you have to ask specifically for sheet changes, but they were quick to provide me with new sheets for me to change which was nice. Overall nice stay and would come back There's a lot to do nearby and walking distance. There's a bar, restaurants within 5-10 minutes to walk and a liquor store across the street for your basic needs! read more

I booked this hotel through Airbnb. And I was able to use my Airbnb credit to pay for the hotel, which was pretty slick. Check in was easy and fast and the room was exactly how it looked in the pictures on Airbnb. Clean, had everything we needed, and a great location near everything in Morro Bay. The hardwood floors are kind of cold on a cold day so bring slippers. I believe this hotel also allows pets. I do not have pets and so I wasn't crazy to hear they allow pets, thinking it would be full of dog hair. But it was very clean and there was no sign of any animal anywhere. I have allergies as well and felt no allergic reaction. I would stay here again. read more

So literally 10 minutes after I'm given my room key and start to get settled, I get an unwelcome surprise when another guest comes up the stairs, swipes a key card and enters my locked room. Ten minutes and you forgot that you just filled my room?! Luckily I wasn't naked coming out of the shower. I reported it to the guy at the front desk and he did not apologize, he found it amusing. I went to get food and when I came back, my room key no longer worked (probably because they deactivated my keys when they assigned my room to the guy who checked in after me). So my food got nice and cold while waiting for a new key. I also got charged tax on top of the $25 pet fee, seriously? Never been charged like this anywhere else. Good location and affordable but not worth it. I did receive an apology from the lady in the morning for the mistake, but too little too late in my opinion. Avoid this one. read more

I am currently at harbor house right now. My daughter is getting married. My sister has 6 kids and her husband in another room. The rooms are clean with a few extras. A microwave, mini fridge and plenty of towels. She had to ask for more towels for the kids. The staff ran and gave her exactly what she asked for. In room coffee with on site laundry room is nice to have. I asked for extra regular and decaf for tomorrow. The shower pressure is wonderful. I am walking distance to a lot of shops and restaurants. They text me that my room would be ready at 3:00, when I arrived at the office to check in the young lady was not friendly, she walked to the doorway behind the desk and just looked at me and said yes ? Told her I had a reservation she said sign this, and I need an ID and credit card. Gave me a key card and pointed in the direction of the room. She snapped out the rules , and out.. Don't expect pleasantries there. Also don't expect hot water, cold showers . Thank goodness it was a one night stop over. Everything was nice there ! Only thing that we had to laugh was the shower, rain outside had more pressures than there shower head ! I you are saving water but the sink and the toilet had more pressure! read more
