View from our ocean front room
    Lexi M.

I've been to the Avila Lighthouse Suites twice now, and had nothing but amazing experiences. The rooms are always clean, smell good, and have great amenities. We always book an "ocean front" room, and it's just incredible to be able to open the doors, sit on the deck, and just let the ocean breeze blow in. They have a nice simple breakfast in the mornings that we've enjoyed, and it's so nice to be close to other restaurants, shops, and steps away from the beach. The service is always great and everyone at the front desk is very helpful. I can't wait to stay here again!

Best customer service ever! Nicole at the front desk was SO amazing and helpful! As we're all of front desk staff! She got us a room last minute and made check in so easy and enjoyable. We had to change rooms on day two and they made that so easy and took such good care of us. They even moved all of our things while we went and got food waiting for our next room to be ready. Both rooms were amazing and beautiful with a view of the ocean. They had everything we needed wine opener, robes, actual coffee cups. All of the housekeeping staff was so hard working and professional. Make sure to tip them. Their job is so important! Just a great little 2 day vacation! The grounds and rooms are some of the cleanest I have ever seen. Definitely going back every chance we get!!

    Beach view from our room.

Perfect for our 27th anniversary! E-bikes available on sight for a 9 mile ride around Avila and the Bob Jones Trail, and free breakfast. We wish we would have know. About this when our kids were little. Poll, across the street from the beach, games, warm cookies, and lots more. Elaine was the best in the lobby!

I wouldn't say this was beach front view

I'm so disappointed in my first and last stay at the lighthouse Inn. I would say that the room was comfortable and the beds were wonderful, but I paid extra for beachfront for my room to face a very loud playground. On top of that I couldn't really shut the door because the AC didn't work. None of the key cards worked for the gates, so we were constantly having to walk around and the elevators were always stalling. The staff was really kind, but overall, I do not see myself returning..

Park view room top floor, still get a ocean view

We love going to Avila beach ! This hotel as always been on our bucket list to stay at. The price here can be high, so for us I knew off season would be the best price for us. We were lucky to be able to stay twice in the last 4 months. Back in October 2023 I had found a deal on Expedia and we had a good stay $226 a night . Lucky for us we got an email from lighthouse talking about a great deal that started this month of 40%off rooms! Yay!! So of course I had to check it out. First off more about the hotel, it offers free breakfast which is better than the pismo location in my opinion (eggs, a breakfast meat, waffles, cereal, oatmeal, fruit, muffins, bagels and more) . The pool and hot tube are right in front of the beach and are good sizes. Both times we had park view rooms and I could still see the ocean. They have corn hole, big checkers, ping pong, and a little putting green. The lobby is nice and has a few little snacks and drinks you can buy. Also everyday they have fresh cookies I. The lobby , that was my kid's favorite part was walking down there to see what cookie was there that day. Now back to our last stay, we got a great deal with taxes it was like $124 a night for a king size bed that has a living room with a queen pull out couch and a park view. We were so excited but towards then end of booking it says by the way we have a new resort few of $45 a day(and this is taxed to so it's more like $50 a day). I had got such a great price on the room I was like that's fine, cause I mean the property is a cross the street from the beach , right next to the three of the main restaurants in town and you get breakfast plus last I came parking is free. When we got to the hotel to check in we told what the resort fee included which was 8 am yoga on the beach (since there is no gym),free checkout of beach equipment (chairs, balls, toys), free one hour bike rental for two , a bottle of wine and 10% off at the local restaurants and I think a few more things. Even though I thought it was high at first , hearing all the thing's included I was fine with it. But then I find out they are now also charging for parking! Now it's only $15 a night but I mean come on, why can't the resort fee cover parking. All in all the rooms are spacious and clean. We love the location of this hotel, it's our favorite part.

    Nice view

Nice location. Lovely view. But check prices! I booked a while back. More than twice the amount than they are asking tonight. Haven't gone to sleep yet to know how the bed is but it's nice and roomy with it being a suite. Sweet young man at the front desk and we passed a couple of employees who were welcoming in their greeting. Nicer than the employees at the Marriott in Napa last week.

First of all, FIVE STAR rating on service, general condition of the property, and cleanliness. All was GREAT. BUT, if you want to reserve an "oceanfront" property, it is NOT oceanfront, but rather a parking lot, which should be made clear when you make your reservation. Even though we didn't talk a picture while staying there, image this image -- taken by another guest of the 2nd floor -- on the lower floor -- you are right up against the public parking area, including all the pedestrians gawking in your balcony and person. Trust me, this hotel has A LOT to offer, but why they don't accurately describe or post representative pictures of the bottom floor "oceanfront" room is beyond me. That's why we gave them 3 stars. :)

This photo has terrible lighting, the room was really pretty and bright in person

I was SO SURPRISED at how amazingly, immaculately, CLEAN our room was. We walked in and immediately smelled the cleanliness of the room. Even could smell the clean sheets/towels. Everyone knows how 99.9% of all hotels don't really clean their sheets. These guys do. And I've NEVER BEEN to a hotel that close to the ocean that didn't have a musty smell due to the sea air, this one didn't have it one bit! The rooms are beautiful, our balcony view was awesome, the complimentary breakfast had so many options, bed was comfortable, and the staff members seemed happy (i feel like that kind of thing is lacking these days). We had the best anniversary getaway, mostly thanks to this beautiful place.

    Great pool!

I took my son to stay at Avila Lighthouse Suites for 4 nights as a getaway to mark the beginning of summer. The hotel is great. The suites are spacious and luxurious. We had an ocean-front suite and the view was amazing. We had a little patio with chairs to sit and enjoy the view. My son slept on the pull-out couch and I took the bed (tried to share the king bed with him as there was plenty of room but he flips and kicks and somehow turns sideways so i moved him to the couch bed). The bathroom had a nice large tub that my son enjoyed for his nightly bath. The small fridge was perfect for storing snacks, drinks, and leftovers, and it was great to have a microwave to reheat them for lunches. The pool is gorgeous and you can see and hear the ocean from there - perfect for when you're not in the mood to get sandy. When you are in the mood for sand, the beach is right across the street. All of the restaurants and shops in the town are within walking distance - you really could park at the hotel and spend your entire stay without getting in your car again. If you do want to drive and explore though, Pismo beach is about 10 mins south and San Luis Obispo is about 15 mins north, so lots to explore nearby. The location is really perfect. Staff were friendly and welcoming whenever we encountered them, I will say the only thing I wasn't impressed with was breakfast - they currently have a grab-n-go setup and the pre-packaged items were not something I was interested in. Coffee connoisseurs will also need to go elsewhere for their morning coffee, as the coffee from the hotel was not enjoyable. Thankfully there is a great coffee shop within walking distance. Overall, I would absolutely come back, with kids or as an adults-only getaway with my boyfriend (seems like there are lots of wineries and tap rooms nearby to check out). I would just say to plan on finding your own breakfast in the mornings and you won't be disappointed. Parking is free in a gated garage under the hotel. Super convenient!

We've stayed in many hotels throughout the area. This is now our #1 choice! The location is obviously excellent. The "partial" ocean view awesome!!! Absolutely loved it!. Room was gorgeous very spacious had all we need. Hot breakfast was good with lotsa options! Definitely recommend and will stay again.

Unobstructed views of the piers, waves rolling in... just gorgeous! *Location is awesome- it's on a beach front street with plenty of restaurants nearby. One could stay here for a couple days and never need to leave. The negatives: *The bed itself was a disgrace. If I sat on the edge of the bed I quite literally would fall off. The divot in the bed is visual (see photo). Same issue with the balcony furniture. There was huge divots in the chairs. Furniture has been abused and needs to be replaced. *NO AC NO HEAT in our room. I would expect the no AC being right on the beach- but not the heat issue. While looking for extra blankets (none), we found two space heaters tucked into the closet. The smaller worked but was a fire hazard. We ended up going to a nearby Walmart and buying a space heater to get through the couple days. Overall, even given all the good points, I don't plan to return. For me, my comfort is a high priority (bed and warmth are necessities). That said, if location/setting is the main goal- this is a great place!

As a last-ditch effort, we stopped at Dolphin Bay around 2 AM hoping for a room. Jacob at the front desk completely turned our night around. He jumped into action, got us settled quickly, and went above and beyond to take care of us despite our unexpected arrival. His level of service was incredible. We woke up the next morning to a stunning ocean view and realized we had stumbled into something special. What started as one of the worst travel experiences quickly became one of the best. The one-bedroom suite was incredibly spacious, the food was delicious both at the restaurant and through in-room dining (we tried both), and everything arrived quickly without long wait times. The valet team handled everything with care and urgency, and every employee we encountered was attentive and genuinely seemed to enjoy being there. What stood out most was the General Manager, Erica. She was everywhere -- helping at the front desk, assisting guests, in the restaurant, at the pool, even parking cars -- all with a smile on her face. That kind of leadership is rare, and it clearly shows in the culture of the entire staff. Even though the property was fully booked during our stay, it never once felt crowded or chaotic, and the staff never seemed behind or overwhelmed -- which says a lot about how well this place is run. It was even slanted downward on the right side to the point of almost rolling out of the bed. The room also needs an average size chair not bar stools for a place to sit and put shoes on. Lastly, a dresser or table over the fireplace would provide more counter space.

At around 4:30pm, on check in day, we received a call asking if we'd be there by 5pm. The office closes at that time, leaving no staff onsite. We arrived around 7pm and retrieved our keys from a lock box. We were given room 9 with a king size bed. Being an end room, only one wall is shared. The room was clean, updated and pretty spacious. A refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and two water bottles, along with a small cooler were available in the room. The bathroom area is spacious and has a separate area to get ready as well. Although the shower was large, the water pressure was horrible. The earplugs next to the bed scared me that this place may be loud. We were exhausted and happy that it was initially quiet. However, around 11pm, the guests next door arrived and it was as if they were in our room. I could here every cough, step, conversation, and the loud thuds of luggage hitting the ground. Those earplugs did not help in drowning out any of the noise. Also, this Inn is small, maybe 10 rooms and the parking lot is in the center, with some spots backed up to a room. Great if it's your car, not so much if it belongs to someone else. If you can tolerate noise, then this spot works. It's walking distance to Shell Beach, which is great for a morning walk, and it's near the freeway. I Personally would never stay here again. I was exhausted the next day.

We stayed in a first-floor ocean view room since we had a service animal, and the room size was great. The grounds are well-kept, there's convenient beach access, and I loved that they have an adults-only hot tub--that was a nice touch. The person who checked us in was also very kind and welcoming, which set a great first impression. Unfortunately, things went downhill that night. Our upstairs neighbors were stomping loudly for hours. Around 8 PM, I called the front desk to let them know, and I was told they would reach out to the room--but nothing changed. By 10 PM, the noise was still going, so I called again. This time, instead of resolving the issue, I felt like we were being questioned. We were told the guests upstairs said they were already in bed, which didn't line up with what we were clearly hearing. The situation was frustrating enough that I tried to get their attention by tapping on the ceiling, which then got turned back on us as a complaint. When we asked about switching rooms, we were told the hotel was sold out and we'd have to wait until the next day--which I understand--but the way it was handled by the manager was disappointing. There was no apology, no empathy, and the tone came off dismissive and rude, which made the situation worse. I really wanted to love this place because the location and property are great, but customer service matters, especially when issues come up. Because of that experience, I'd think twice about staying here again.
