First, I want to note that I truly enjoy Harbor Freight Tools, and this feedback reflects only this specific experience--not the 99% of positive interactions I've had at other locations. Our company is outfitting technicians with toolboxes that include approximately $3,000 worth of tools per set. This is our first time doing so, and I was hoping for some guidance from the Fontana team. Upon arriving at the store, I met a very helpful floor associate who began pointing me in the right direction. Given the size of the order, I asked whether I could leave my list of items and have someone follow up with me in the next few days. I assumed that a $3,000 purchase--and the likelihood of future orders of similar size--might be of interest to the store. Unfortunately, a female employee interjected abruptly and stated, "We don't do that," followed by, "We do not do your personal shopping." While I understand store policies, the delivery lacked empathy or acknowledgment of how labor intensive it would be for one person to locate roughly 50 items on their own. If it was not for the manager saving the day I would have given one star as this HF did not want to help a customer out until I got a hold of Rudy. So, for months now I have been waiting for a new popular tool (like everyone else) to be back in stock at my local HF stores. Since there was a big discount for a brand name tool and me being an ITC member I wanted to grab one while the ITC pre-sale was on before going to the regular customers next week. So, I called my store in Chino Hills, then Chino, Montclair and finally La Puente trying to see if they had one in stock. None of them did but La Puente said Fontana had 3 pieces in store. So I called the store to verify they had one and the employee that picked up the phone confirmed they had at least one on hand. I asked if he could put my name on it and I will make the 31 mile trip one way in traffic to pick it up. He told me it is first come first serve and will not put my name on it. I asked to talk to a manger and he mentioned the answer will be the same. I waited 5 minutes and called back hoping to get someone else and the same person picked up the phone. I could not talk him into it. I told him I am not going to drive 31 miles in traffic one way to find out it was sold before I got there. The employee was not rude but did not seem to care if I came in or not. Over the years I have not had another local HF have an issue holding a tool so I can come and pick it up. So, I ended up and called HF corporation in Calabasas to voice my frustration. The customer service agent was not sure why they would not hold it for me but mentioned she could not call the store to ask them to put it to the side. So about 30 minutes have passed since my second call to the Fontana store and I decided to call one last time. This time a different employee picked up the phone and was more than happy to get me the store manager. I explained to Rudy what I was trying to do and he ended up and personally went and got ahold of the tool and put it to the side for me. 1.5 hours later in traffic and I was there picking up the tool. I want Rudy to know that I really appreciate him helping out where the other employee would not. For that reason, I am giving this store four stars. If I did not have an issue from the start this would have been a five star review. For the store it should have been no big deal to put it on the side with my name on it since I would have left right away. Even if it was for a hold time of 2 hours. For me it was a 2 hour and 45 minute round trip so I really should not have had to deal with the issue the first two times I called in. If this is a company wide policy not to hold a tool for a customer then it needs to be enforced across the whole chain of stores. If this is only with the Fontana store you might want to reconsider for future customers. Thanks again Rudy! read more

If I can leave zero views, I would love to especially for that wanna be supervisor. I don't know why she has a position of a supervisor. She's a little skinny with black hair. She was covering her name tag. This is the way I'm describing her this way it was exactly 750 on the dot to let me come in and do a return on my generator because they said they were getting ready to close and a return process takes more than five minutes. That is very unacceptable especially when I called the store 30 minutes before and ask them if I can come in and do this and they responded to me. Yes, come on in. I believe the owner helped me today, this man definitely has great customer service. The store has everything most trades need to get going in the field. Has a quality selection of tools and options from low to high. I will continue to support this store and make sure I get all my ironworker tools from here even though I live far from it. I find myself asking over and over if cheap prices are worth poor quality and horrible service. Today was the straw that broke the camels back. Highlights of my decision: 1. 20 minutes in checkout line because they only had 1 cashier. 2. I counted them, 3 managers/supervisors wandering around, avoiding customers and cashiering. 3. The store is poorly stocked. Most items I have needed are out of stock or they stopped carrying the item. I will not be back to this store. They have earned me taking my business elsewhere. This place really really sucks. I love harbor freight. Take a few extra minutes and go to the one on baseline. I came here a couple of times because I was driving pay. I should have kept driving, Today they wouldn't accept a coupon that was a screenshot. But then I went to another Harbor freight and they accepted it. No problem. This is to put one particular employee on blast named DIAMOND. I see that she already has crappy reviews on here so here's another one. My girlfriend and I have never in our lives received such bad customer service.  DIAMOND was called to serve us but what she did instead was be rude and give us attitude when asked simple questions. Not only did she not want to answer but she didn't have any knowledge of the product.  What made it even worse is that she kept staring at my girlfriend which made her feel uncomfortable. We ended up flagging down another employee who was courteous and knowledgeable. This was the first and last time we visit. We won't be coming back to Harbor Freight. Store is always dirty. Went in really quick to pick up a pad lock. Could find not find one so we asked an rude employee named Fatima. She proceded to walk by us and say "I am off the clock" Manger heard and seemed to think it was funny. He did tell us which aisle to find locks. read more

Made a two hundred dollar purchase with several items on sale and with coupons. The sales person said that he could bet me a free membership and proceeded to sign me up without asking if I wanted it. I asked if it was going to cost me for the membership and he said no. Sales person did not say that it was taking money from my discounts to apply towards the cost of the membership. This is clearly an illegal act was condoned condoned by the store manager Anthony! Manager Anthony didn't really seem to care at all till I started getting mad and pointed out how bad that was to pull on customers!!!!!!!! Watch your back and don't trust sales people at the Fontana store location. On the other hand, I got great service at the Highland Ave. store in San Bernardino. Bad situation with on line order at Harbor Freight Tools. They put a hold on funds for your order, fine. Then when it ships they charge you again, not fine. Then when you call to straighten this out ( it will take a hour) they argue between a charge and a hold. If you have bills that are going to come out and that money is short because of the double dip then you get a $35.00 over draft fee per item. Do you think the bank gives that money back? Why no they don't. Do you think Harbor Freight is accountable, nope and you are screwed to the wall!!! Absolutely DO NOT TRUST these arguing nasty little pricks! Buy in the store and never on line. I return with an issue with in the warranty period and they tell me that I have to purchase another warranty because the jack looks older than one year. They jack is within its 2 year warranty. Tried to buy a trailer dolly, the floor display has sku's papers in a little pocket saying to take one to the register, after waiting in line for 30 minutes cashier told me they don't have any in stock. Spoke to the store manager and asked if those sku's tags should be taking out of the pocket if item is not in stock and he blamed it on his district manager stating that is the way he wants it. Pretty dumb way to run a store if you ask me so be carful people, don't waste your time and ask right away but then again is hard to find help around here and I'm sure they will tell you to wait in line for your turn..... bummer!! read more

Harbor Freight sells tools that will usually get the job done, but aren't something you'd be passing on to your grandchildren. On the other hand, they have unbeatable deals on sundry items you'd find at a tool store such as zip ties and padlocks that work well for casual usage. Customer service is awful. I am basing this review on 2 interactions with a particular employee. Sorry for throwing this lady, Diamond, under the bus...but she needs to get better customer service training. Cpupke weeks ago we tried to purchase a cement mixer on a Saturday evening. She was at the cash register and she said sorry you might have to wait until tomorrow is only 2 girls working and the other girl is pregnant and i can't load the item...there are no guys working at the moment only us 2 girks. We ended up asking her if she can check if the item was available so we can purchase it and then pick it up next day..she was just giving the same explanation...any way my point is she does not try to help. I know the manager should have considered not to have only 2 people at the store if both can't perform their duties and if is not part of their duties then have some back up for that. I understand the pregnant employee of course. Second time ...this morning she does not look in the eye when talking to you...gets the phone number wrong and gets impatient, just does her typinh not asking for coupons not offering new coupons, fliers, bag. Called to check on the availability of a fuel petcock. Talked to 3 different people and all put me on hold never to answer the phone again, the first girl (Amber) never picked back up when she went to check on the availability, the next person (a man that didn't give his name) said that they had one, then when I asked the price he put me on hold for 8 minutes before I hung up, I called back and talked to Erika and she told me they did not have the part, and it was pretty obvious she didn't know what a petcock was as I had to spell it for her... they really need to work on their customer service. read more

Awful. I called in for a product to ask and make sure they had the product before making the 20 plus minute drive. Before I could completely explain what I was looking for the lady gave me a rude NOPE. I said are you sure. She said well maybe you would have to come look. I explained Im 20 minutes away and at work I would just like to make sure before I make the drive she then told me I should go to a different store or look online to purchase. If I was the owner operator of this place I would be pissed that my employ is sending my customers to other store and suggesting to purchase online instead of taking 2 minutes to help the customer out and make a sell.
