Luckily BEY was coming into town and was able to take me to this new store that has all the tools and any person would need, including a woman. He says "" this is a man's toy story "" and I told him well. They have pink string in here so it has to be for me too. The pricing was quite reasonable and the tools were perfect as you can see. My bookshelf is now put together and I'm ready to finish designing my home. Tools and accessories, mostly from China, priced very low compared to big box stores. Much of it is really bad/unreliable, but other items are actually quite good. It's hit or miss. Check the reviews on their website for the products. To their credit, they don't censor the bad reviews for the bad products, so you can get a good feel for what's good and what's not from the website. For power tools or anything expensive, buy the extended warranty, it's worth it. Price of the tool PLUS extended warranty is often cheaper than a brand-name tool alone at a big box store. Get the Harbor Freight credit card and get 10% off your first purchase (which I used for a $600 jackhammer), and 5% savings in the form of rewards points on all future purchases. So the cashier guy at register 3 tried to sign me up for their membership during checkout and I kindly declined. He replied sarcastically by saying if I didn't get signed up I won't be able to get a refund. After saying no thank you, I asked if they had a military discount for active duty military. The Supervisor on Duty today 5/14/24 @ 11:00am is the epitome of rude. During my shopping he "asked" me if I needed some help but more accurately demanded me to ask him a question about the items I was looking at. At this time I was in the ratchet isle. I said no, I was good I was just looking around right now. Now at this time I did not have a basket but I had a specific list of items I was going to buy that I knew they had. As I progressed to the intersection of isles I decided I wanted to look at the air compressors. I'm reading the recommended uses on the side of the boxes determining on my own which one I potentially could be interested in. He again approaches me. This time asking me again do I need help. I once again said, no I was good right now. He then in a more stern voice says: "Just ask me questions that's what I'm here for." This kind of sparked me slightly because I just 5 minutes prior responded to him saying that I was just looking right now but thank you I was good at the moment. He then replied "Okay!" Now I move onto the automotive section. One of the items I definitely came for was a set of O2 Sensor sockets. Of course he is right behind me and what does he do??? He asks am I looking for something. Now I'm starting to think maybe because I have no cart he thinks I'm a shoplifter. I started to reply once again that I'm good but I decided to say: "Do you have any O2 Socket Sets." He quips back: "Yeah right infront of you." I didn't like how he asked me obviously, I didn't like his response, I didn't like how he didn't move over towards the Sensor Set and show me. He just expounded w/a tone of; yeah Captain Obvious they're right there. But at least he left me alone for the moment. (See next entry) So now I want to use the restroom. The door said "Vacant" it was on green. He's now with a young Hispanic man who is interested in the engine stands which are right next to the bathroom. The young man was inquiring about the price of a particular engine stand. The Supervisor barks at him and says: "The prices are right above the stands!" I'm like whoa... Well the price wasn't directly above the stand in question it was one whole stand to the left of the display. I understand the young man's confusion. But it wasn't my business I just wanted to use the bathroom. The door won't open, it's clearly locked. I ask him is there a key for the bathroom. He responds in a very snobbish way: "No, there's no key it's open. Do you see the green sign above the knob that says Vacant?" I respond: "Yes, but it won't open." I proceed to then demonstrate that it's locked. He now quickly responds: "Oh whoever used it last must have locked it from the inside." But you could tell his moment to try and belittle me had evaporated. Then a voice from inside the bathroom booms out: "Yeah I'm in here!" At this point I just want to go get the cart and get what I came for. The "shopping experience" is totally lost. (See next entry) Of course I encounter him in another isle on the way to get my basket. He just semi glares at me as if I just came in to do no good & use the bathroom. Why? Probably because I didn't have a basket and I was heading towards the door as if I was leaving. But I was actually just getting a basket. Now I go start picking up the items I came for, did he ask me now did I need any help? No. I'm so more than relieved he didn't but it now has only reinforced my opinion that he clearly thought I was up to no good earlier. (See next entry) I finish getting my items and guess who is at the checkout now???? Oh yeah it's him. He wants my phone number. It's a standardized practice at Harbor Freight. I reply to him that I don't give my phone number out. He instantly starts in the most over bearing tone that you can't return anything with out your phone number on file and it's the only way we support our products. (It's right here that it got real for me.) I responded back that I understand the policy and I'm good. He goes on about the products being made in several factories and things happen where they do fail at times. I respond back that; you shouldn't sell things that you think may fail. He repeats himself and get more agitated that I won't give in and give out my phone number. I told him that he didn't have to explain & belabor his point. That I was good. He rings the items up and asks me do I want a bag for the smaller items. I say yes. He puts them in the bag and instantly starts with the next customer. I haven't even clear the register w/my items. I say thank you. He doesn't acknowledge my gratitude. I repeat saying Thank you. He responds back w/no eye contact: "Yeah" (See next entry) Man... right there I said never again will I patronize this store. Absolutely not. I will go 20 miles to the south to the other location or I'll go to a competitor. But never again will I step foot in this Harbor Freight on West Parmer Lane in Austin Texas. read more

This is a very extensive hardware, tool and automotive supply business that fits within 15 to 20,000 ft.² space. I have to admit I was rather impressed with the extensive selection. Yes it appears that a lot of the items featured are cheap and Chinese made, but there is some quality made items as well. I decided to walk the entire store to get a really good feel for it before I wrote this review. I went there to purchase a 3 ton floor jack. The price was actually a lot less than their competitors and the quality appeared to be about the same. The customer service that Bryan offered was also appreciated. This particular business does serve a niche market which the super big box hardware stores like Home Depot don't completely fill. Even if you have no desire to purchase anything from this particular business, it is at least worth walking the aisles to see what they have, because I think you'll be surprised of the things they have to offer. read more

I had a really bad experience the other day with three other employees there. I was trying to return a cash purchase and they wanted a photo ID and a phone number for me none of which they asked for when I bought the merchandise. The snotty little cashier told me that their policy was on the back of receipt. I came in very late like right before closing time, and the ladies that were the cashiers were pretty upset about me doing this, and felt comfortable letting me know how they felt. I ran over to the tool I had needed and bought it. And got out of their quickly as possible so I didn't further upset them or make myself feel more uncomfortable in the process. As far as the tool I bought, it was a lot cheaper than a brand name tool or the same type, generally speaking I do normally think that you get what you pay for especially when it comes to tools. However, if it's something I don't plan on using constantly, I will try to save a dollar or two and go a bit cheaper, hopefully it doesn't bite me in the ass this time. Either way I will write an update on the quality of the tools - specifically the Pittsburgh brand ones. If they weren't so obvious that they were miserable there and they wanted me OUT ASAP I'd given another star, because it wasn't after work time it was during the working hours. Be clear that Harbor Freight gets 5 stars because it delivers what it commits to deliver and it does so superbly. My father and I have been using Harbor Freight products for many years and they always live up to expectations--and those expectations are properly set. They sell GOOD products. What they don't sell is high-end, ultra-craftsman level equipment. This is why their products are prices so reasonably. This particular location I'm reviewing is the only one anywhere near me and it is always setup great and well organized. If you're a tool guy and decide to stop by, don't plan on a short visit. You'll want to go through every single row and look at everything because you'll always find something you need (and certainly want). If you don't have a location near you then getting their products delivered is usually very reasonable in terms of shipping costs. But I highly recommend going to the store so you can pick the stuff up, especially the power tools, and see what you're getting. read more

I got a $50 gift card for Christmas only to try to use it one day and have a declined after I had already checked and it had a perfect balance. Go into days later as they told me to and the same problem and then they say well we're having problems with their system and we can't do gift cards OK that I can understand. What I can't understand is why I went from $50 to zero dollars and when corporate calls me to address the issue they stay I have to go back to the store And talk to the manager again because they will need to call corporate because it shows that it had $50 a day I win in a got charged and then it got canceled And they won't put the money back on from corporate. Every year I go to Harbor freight for Christmas because I always get the card I love Harbor freight up until this point where they stole the money from me and don't seem to care. Update Chris and David know how to provide customer satisfaction. Chris reached out to me and quickly handled the issue. I feel he went above and beyond to resolve my problem. Wonderful and helpful staff! The workers there were friendly, knowledgeable and caring. I was so impressed! The gentleman that helped me, Mr.Chris Douglas, was such a relief! He assisted me with everything on my school list. (I'm going to school for welding but have never tried it prior, so I needed a lot of help.) I never felt like a burden and he knew exactly what I needed and got me the best deals! This was VERY appreciated as I'm paying out of pocket for now and that stuff is not cheap. That man is an absolute blessing and that store is lucky to have such a wonderful employee/person! Once I checked out I was helped out by Clay and the supervisor they were also very kind and helpful! You get what you pay for - most of the time. Harbor freight is cheap. Same stuff at lowes or hd cost more, but then again the quality of tools as HF can be questionable. For instance, I bought an air nailer/stapler at HF and after about 200 rounds it was dead. O ring blew out somewhere-$25 gone. Then there was the hammer- after five whacks, the head came off and almost knocked me out. Then, there are tools that are amazing. I bought the big daddy roller cabinet, normally $500 but used a coupon and took it home for $300. This thing is SOLID. This is on par with some of the $600 craftsman 42" rollers. I've also picked up some el cheapo paint brushes. They are fine for throw aways. I have quite a few ratchet clamps from there and they a cheap and great. My latest test is a variable speed buffer/ sander- we shall see how well it works and how long it lasts until the bushings burnout. Don't expect Snap-on quality tools here. Not gonna happen. But some of their stuff is decent, really depends on how you are going to use it. If you are going to use it all the time, you might wanna consider HD or lowes. But if you need it to complete a weekend job, this might be the place. read more

Here's the trick to coming out of Harbor Freight with your wallet intact. Don't look at the ads. This store is a lot nicer than the South Austin store, even though they each inhabit the innards of an old Kmart store. For some reason, the aisles are wider, the lighting is better, and the merchandise is arranged logically and not quite helter-skelter. I actually had a better appreciation of the merchandise, and didn't feel quite so ghetto when leaving. My biggest disappointment today was that I was trying to score two large moving dollies, and they were sold out. Seems some moving company had come in and bought like 50 of them earlier in the day. I can never seem to find what I'm going for at HF. Today I went to buy camstraps that were listed online for $12.99. When I arrived an employee told me they had the exact same straps in another section for $9.99. Through no fault of the cashier the straps were rang up at the $12.99 price. I realized this as I got back in my car and checked the receipt. I walked back in and saw the manager who I went and explained the situation to. They were pretty busy at the moment, the line was seven or eight people deep.The manager, a grey haired older gentleman with glasses and an accent, was finishing up a task. I asked him if he could handle this as soon as he was finished, he refused and told me I would have to get in the back of the line. I explained this was their mistake and asked if it could be resolved quicker? Without even eye contact he again refused. Just another bittersweet experience at HF getting a reasonably priced item but having to go back 2 or 3 times because they were out of stock, or half assed uninvolved customer service. PS I want to point out that the cashier was very friendly and helpful and made no mistake, it was the manager that soured this experience after trying to get their simple mistake fixed. read more

I was walking in the store with my dog and in excitement she accidentally knocked over a item, which I apologized about. The employee very disrespectfully and in a snarky tone then said "Ugh this is why we don't allow dogs in the store". I know that they allow dogs in the store as per company policy. My friend needed a few things for his job so we came here. As many times as I have come to this area for that big ole electronics store, I never saw Harbor Freight Tools. They seem to have everything a hobbyist or job site would need. Arc welders with supplies, generator systems, portable garages, super sized tarps and coverings for your house roof, solar kits, wagons, "carry all's", remote/model airplanes, meters of all types, tons of safety gear, and pretty much every tool you would need. After recently purchasing my first home it became very apparent that my tool chest was seriously lacking the necessary goods to complete the long list of projects I wanted to dive into. Comparison shopping on the web between Home Depot, Lowe's, and HFT revealed that on almost each and every tool and accessory, HFT came in as the least expensive. I compiled my "wish list" on the website, printed it out, and spent over an hour at the store collecting my goods. As for the store itself, I was surprised to find that it was so small yet had each and every one of my items in stock. Navigating the aisles and trying to locate some items can be hit or miss as each shelf is crammed to the hilt with tools, but once you get the idea of how everything is organized it isn't too hard to complete your purchases. I was pleasantly surprised to find that some of the tools on my list were priced cheaper on the shelf than online and in some cases there were clearance items at prices that made them too hard to pass up. My only complaints would be that the smaller size of the store is most apparent at the register. There is not enough room to accommodate longer lines which tend to back up into the sales aisles themselves. Likewise, the quality of some of the tools range from very good to "use it once and it's trash". I would advise checking out the user reviews for the items on their website before purchasing. Of the $250-plus of tools and other items I purchased, I have used each and every one of them. Apart from a shoddy caulking gun and a hacksaw that can't cut through butter, everything else has been very dependable. I will definitely check with HFT before I purchase tools elsewhere. read more

When I want good quality hand tools that I'll use constantly and want them to last a lifetime, I'll go to Sears and spent the extra cash on Craftsman. But for almost everything else, Harbor Freight is my first stop. This is a great place for those tools you know you'll need for a particular project, but won't be using heavily. I bought an inexpensive coin sorter, should have known a coin sorter at Harbor Freight would not be a great deal. It was not worth the 10.00 bucks I spent. Tried to get a refund but did not have the receipt with me and the staff did not even bother to get the manager just said I could not have my money back. So being that the product was crap I left it am will let all who read and listen to reviews NOT to buy anything but tools from these crooks. Never setting a foot in here again. Negative a zillion stars. The aforementioned saw horses were missing several little washer thingies and two screws had no X on them so you couldn't screw them in. Silly me. I went back to the HFT to get the parts that were missing. The guy wanted me to bring the whole thing back. I had already spent a good part of the day putting it together. He called someone from "the back" to help me. After waiting with 3 other people to be helped for about 15 minutes, I gave up and went to Home Depot and got what I needed. One star review because the manager was very rude when I was making a simple purchase, and because everything electric powered that I buy from here dies JUST after the warranty period or has some defect that almost always requires a return or exchange. Manager story: Was asked for my phone number when checking out by the cashier, to which I replied with a simple "Nope". Look here Harbor Freight, there is NO WAY I'm trusting a super cheap bargain chain with my phone number AND credit card data after more reputable outfits (I'm looking at you Target and Home Depot!) got hacked and everyone's info was spilled into the hands of cyber crooks. Upon hearing my "nope" the manager on duty decided to butt in and tell me that if I didn't give them my phone number the company would stop mailing me coupons. I opted to keep my privacy and reduce my junk mail by not giving my phone number and I suggest others do the same. NO GOOD REASON TO GIVE THEM YOUR PHONE # OR ADDRESS!!! Why? Because... Every car magazine I have has the coupons. Val-u-pak mailers have the coupons. Red Plum mailers have the coupons. At least when I buy cheap Chinese tools at Sears they'll honor the warranty at the store or have phone staff who can speak passable English. At least at Sears staff is available to help me. This store cuts prices by having almost NO floor staff to help, unless you count the rude smug manager who stands at the front of the store to berate those who refuse to give a phone number. ONE STAR. NEVER AGAIN HARBOR FREIGHT. When I shop the Fry's or Dollar Tree I'm going to pop in and get the name of the manager and file a complaint with corporate. By the way, those lifetime warranty tools they sell, you have to go through the manufacturer to do any warranty claim. Most of whom are in China and use crappy call centers in India to handle warranty calls. You are better off buying Chinese tools from a more reputable company who properly staffs their stores and offers superior foreign made products. I purchased a pressure washer on 2021 it has been less than a year old and it broke down on me. I arrived to the store because I had purchased additional warranty to have the unit replaced surprisingly there was two people at the register and I let them know I wanted to replace the unit with the warranty. They said without the receipt there is nothing they can do they made it very difficult they wanted me to go through my email to find the receipt we are in 2022 who cares about a receipt they have my phone number on record. I am very disappointed they did not attempt to help me all they had to do is find my phone number on the system and could have seen the purchase. Lately I have spent so much money at this store my bill have been higher than the grocery story it's just sad that me an my children liked coming that store to work on a project of ours.
