Great spot to drive through and get some classic food! The building used to be open to order and eat in but it is now just a drive through so plan accordingly! The food is always good quality and the ice cream is delicious! I highly recommend their onion rings. If you're looking for a good cheese pull be sure to get the mozzarella sticks. I do wish they offered a grilled cheese or other vegetarian sandwich / burger but they do have some vegetarian sides & side salads I believe. read more

Stopped for onion rings yesterday after I wrote the review the other day and my mouth kept watering ... the onion rings are still delicious, don't get me wrong, but $5.91 (with tax) for the less than 10 onion rings is way out of line. Sorry, Happy 's, I was willing to go to bat for you all day long, but this was upsetting me the more I thought about it. Not OK. I don't mind paying $5.91 for onion rings if I get a substantial amount of product, but 10 rings? Most likely won't buy the onion rings anymore since the cost is way out of line now. read more

I stopped in to Happy's right before they closed. The staff were so friendly! I know what it is like to work fast food and get customers as you are trying to close. These ladies gave no indication whatsoever that I was not welcome. Just the opposite! In addition, I ate the best sloppy joe I have ever eaten in my life (sorry mom!). Best of all, they had a pup cup for my dog and were complimenting him on his patience (and on how handsome he is). This is my new favorite place to go on the way to and from the cabin. read more

Everything is great fro the time you walk in until you leave. Great food, wait staff.

this is a classic drive in and worth the stop on the way to or way back from lake country.

Driving back from up north we stopped here on the way home. The service was friendly. The bathroom wasn't yet open to the public. The hard ice cream wasn't that good. The soft serve was better. Fries delicious! Burgers were ok. I think it was REALLY expensive for what it was. I can see the nostalgia of a place like this which I appreciate. And, it definitely wasn't worth the price to me. Probably wouldn't stop here again except that it is conveniently located. read more

DELICIOUS!!!! Happy's never disappoints! Their grilled chicken sandwich basket is THE BEST!!!!! They have THE BEST FRIES TOO! Hot, fresh & crispy Husband orders a hamburger basket and loves it!!! We purposely leave our house on our way up north each weekend so we arrive at Happy's as soon as they open 11am! Our Togo boxes are empty, I'll take a pic next time! Thanks Happy's!!! read more

I absolutely LOVE Happy's! I make the trek over an hour away for the sloppy joes and ice cream.

We were on Lake Mille Lacs with the kids, so obviously this was a perfect place to stop for kids. They have a beautiful outdoor play area as well, which was ideal for us. The food was fine. We had a fish sandwich and shrimp sandwich -- both were very similar to some thing you'd have at McDonalds. My review isn't based on the food, it is based in the experience. Any place that caters to kids, you'd think, would have restrooms that children could use. We asked the staff, who were very friendly, if my son could use the restroom. The staff commented that the manager specifically has said bathrooms are closed to patrons. I get it, things are tough with Covid esp related to safety. But, this place has an open public playground which children could use. If it were really about safety, it would be congruent for the management to close the outdoor play space (otherwise, just let kids use the bathroom). read more

OMG how can you not be happy after eating at Happy's? Their burgers are delicious and their ice cream scoops are ginormous. Also the Mac and cheese bites were so good. I hope whenever I come back that we drive past this place again to eat. It also seems very family-friendly due to the play structures outside. It's a fun little drive in with great food. read more

Well I finally stopped. I have driven by this place many times and did it again today. Then I made the U-turn. With an inside and outside play area, kids will be able to exhaust a lot of energy! They even had a basketball court. Unknown if you need your own ball? The court even had spectator benches! Ordering is a challenge and the clerk looked like she was "happy" with my difficulty. Menu behind the counter, on the counter and after my struggle to order a combo, I found what I was looking for on the wall to my left. Otherwise service was very good. Under 10 minutes food delivery. Food was hot and a step up from fast-food. Plenty of fries but certainly from a frozen bag. I asked clerk what's up with the name. Apparently owners wanted a fun place to eat. Certainly fun for kids!! The jackpot was the huge scoop of Kemp's peppermint bon bon. Worth the $2.50! The meal deal was a little pricey but I guess this is tourist country. Worth a stop. read more

The classic American drive in experience. 7 of us ate burger baskets (fries and drink) plus some onion rings to share for under $65. For dessert we followed up with on site made ice cream sandwiches and didn't regret the mandatory nap afterwards. Out door basketball and small playground for kids. Indoor playground for inclement weather. read more

Love Happy's! This was introduced to me by my boyfriend over the last couple years, on the way to his cabin from the cities. This isn't McDonalds- I see reviews complaining of prices (not super cheap but I believe you get what you pay for/is family owned) or not catering to children. (Covid policy for bathrooms/indoors right now- there's a gas station a mile down the road to use) They're always so friendly and this is honestly my favorite "fast food" burger fries and choc shake. their 'happy's sauce' is awesome, too. They have so many different options, my boyfriend loves the chili and corn dog. It's a delicious option to check out- family owned, and have never had a negative experience. I don't ever leave reviews, but felt the 3.5 stars was not fair for Happy's. I crave Happy's and look forward to getting when we go up north. read more

After eating a couple bites of my burger, noticed the bun was moldy, brought it to their attention, and they said you've already ate on it ! And there was a dead mouse at the front step going in told them they should probably pick it up. Very rude service never going back. ! read more

Fun little Spot on way to Gull Lake. Drive thru only - dining still Closed . Typical Burgers - above average - nothing super. Missed out trying ice cream - drive up Line too long and inconvenient to order ice with meal...I would stop Again if in area and be sure to get Ice Cream read more

My sister bought a cabin up near Aitkin recently, and thanks to that I now head up North on 169 instead of 371. And Happy's is a fantastic reason to change your route if you are headed up North. (Plus you get to drive next to Mille Lacs...beautiful.) I would describe this food as "fast food plus". All your basics - cheeseburger baskets, kids meals, all that - but also bread bowl salads, soups, scoop ice cream and home made special k bars. A basketball hoop outside, simple rides for the kiddies, an indoor and outdoor playground and rabbits to peer at in a cage. All good. Definitely check this place out if you are headed up North - especially if you have kids. read more

NICE SERVICE FOR A SMALL JOINT IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE I had stopped here years ago, and was not impressed at all. But today I went thru the drive thru for a quick snack and drink, and was surprisingly accommodated. The menu is "huge" ( Trump style.) My food was average, but the french fries tasted homemade. NICE !!!!!! I wish I had gotten a shake or some other ice cream delight. However, next time I am up that way I for sure will. I think the fast, friendly gal that I dealt with set the tone for a "happy" meal at HAPPY'S. Haha. Nicely done. CUSTOMER SERVICE AT IT'S B E S T !!!!!!!!!!!!! read more

Today was me and my family's first time trying Happy's Drive- In. And I'll tell you we were not disappointed! I enjoyed a bacon cheeseburger and fries, which was a good burger. And I'm picky about burgers. My hubby tried the shrimp basket and the kids enjoyed chili dogs. We also had to try the ice cream which was such good custard ice cream. We will be stopping by again on our way to cities or back home up north. Also the park is awesome for us traveling family's who need a bite to eat and a little play time outside of our long drives. read more

In spite of the huge menu, Happy's doesn't try to be more than it is; a roadside family fast food restaurant. It is extremely kid-friendly so be prepared. (On the sign for the indoor play area it states that shoes cannot be worn but socks are required. If you do not have socks, they are available for purchase. LOL!) The food was good enough but not necessarily better than any place else. The service was friendly and quick. And the facility was very clean. read more

Stopped in on our way home to the metro from Grand Rapids. The burger basket was about $9 and the burger wasn't that great. The kids meals were overpriced too, and hardly any fries. The chicken nuggets in the kids meal were not even of the quality of the frozen chicken nuggets you can buy at the grocery store. Employees were friendly and helpful, overall way overpriced for the portion size and value. Paid about $25 for one adult basket and two kids meals. read more

The Happy Burger was exceptionally delicious! The fries were also pretty good. I will definitely make an effort to stop here when going up to the cabin! read more

Beware! Only drive thru open and ZERO indication made online or on marquee sign. We used to love stopping here on our way to/from the cabin, but they have only have had the drive thru open for the past two years. It's not worth the wait. Didn't eat here - only had emergency ice cream on way home from up north. It's Kemp's. Large portions. Done.

We've been wanting to stop here for years and we finally did. The food was amazing and very inexpensive. All 4 kids even thought it was great. The staff was so nice and helpful, didn't seemed to be annoyed with our questions. We will definitely stop here more often on our way up north. My only regret is not getting any ice cream. read more

Totally great, local burger and shake drive in. Old style, clean, fun, and good cheap eats. Every trip north includes a stop at Happy's. First it was for our kids, then our grandkids, and of course always for my wife and me! WAY better than the chain joints you pass along the way and locally owned! A throwback stop for any family! read more

I stop there every time I can. Very good food, very friendly staff. Also as a coach, I have taken my track team and my cross country team there on several occasions. Most recently we were at a meet in Onamia which was running long. I called them half an hour before they closed and they stayed open until we arrived. My team loved it and thanked them graciously. The owner said he was always grateful when my teams stopped in and was happy to be able to serve us. This one of my favorite places to go and will continue to bring my teams there! read more

I love this place. It's a great fried food Haven and prefect if you have a hankering for an ice cream shake. I however love their shrimp burgers and onion rings. I drive past this past quite frequently in the summer and try to get there when I can. Today I was more than pleased that there were still opened tonight. I was able to get my craving satisfied. Definitely recommend, especially when you aren't on a diet. read more

Extremely friendly and one heck of a menu. Our favorites are the soups, sloppy joes and the mac&cheese bites. They even have treats at the drive-up window for your dog. Nice outdoor playground onsite... Great space for kids to burn off some energy if they've been couped up in the car. read more

Great service and great sloppy Joe's! A must stop if you're heading north from the Cities or south after a weekend at the lake.

Love this place! Excellent place for families with dogs. The food is cheap, great quality and they have a fun ice cream parlor attached. It's nice because they have a playground area outside for the family, dog friendly, and a drive-thru if you're on the way up to the cabin! Highly recommend the boneless buffalo wings- they use a dry rub and a sauce that is super good. Mother likes the sloppy Joe's and gets it each time. Place is a must stop over subway or other large chains. read more

I was a little skeptic of this side of the road place initially but after we ate, I was glad we stopped. I have to admit, I wasn't a huge fan of the burger.... It was just average. But my wife loved her sloppy joe, the fries were good and the shakes were INcREdIbLe, which is why I have it 4 stars. read more
