Have driven by this place for years on our way to/from cabin. Parking lot is usually pretty empty. Decided to finally go and check it out. Nice bar area and decent dining space. While you would think from the outside you are walking into a Mexican restaurant it is but it isn't. Some good Mexican dishes (my mom LOVED) the flavor of the chicken in her tacos. And also a mixture of traditional bar fare food - hamburgers, salads and that night (Friday) was also all you can eat shrimp. We stuck with the Mexican food and enjoyed a nice margarita. The food portions are HUGE! You will not leave hungry. Space was clean and service was good. Not sure I'll be rushing back but certainly glad to finally check it out and would go back. read more

We always love making a quick pit stop into Chico's Place on our way to Bay Lake and Rutgers. We grab a couple cold Premiums and a plate of tacos. The tacos aren't spectacular, but they are solid. I always get a chuckle out of the 2 sauces they offer - mild or spicy. I honestly can't tell the difference. I know Minnesotans can be a little spice adverse and Chico's stays true to this tradition. They also have pull tabs (I wish they weren't the machine version) and a billiards table. Cool place and chill folks at this place. I use to love to stop here on the way up North. The Mexican food was great! With that being said... It has been under new ownership and the food has gone downhill. However, they have a great happy hour! 2 beers, 2 sodas, and 2 apps for a bill of $9 and some change. The beer is really cold, so I will continue to stop for well needed beer break! read more

Second time eating at Chicos place. The food took a little longer than I would've liked. I thought they brought me the wrong order, but to my surprise my burrito was buried under a pile of fresh veggies and cheese. We stop here every year on our way to the cabin in Outing, MN. It is about the halfway point, so we need a good place to take a break! The atmosphere is great! It gives you the log cabin bar feel. They have pool tables, darts, pull tabs, games, etc. There is fun to be had for all! Their drinks are cheap. I understand it is not a metropolitan area, but after living in the cities, I love it! I would stick to cocktails though. If you are looking for good beer, this is not the place. I have only had a couple of appetizers here. They were mediocre, bar food. However, it hit the spot on a long drive. You wont be impressed nor disappointed. I have not eaten at the restaurant though. Usually it is closed by the time we get that far up north. Service is pleasant and the bartender is always willing to help us document our road trip! If you are ever driving from the cities to anywhere in the middle of Minnesota, stop here! Actually pretty impressed with this place based on it's location. It is kind of in the middle of no where but it seems a lot of people stop in on their way to or from the lake on weekends. I tried their Amigo's dinner and it was huge! The enchilada was decent, the taco was the best part, the tostada was acceptable, the burrito was mediocre, and the rice and beans were standard. Obviously not the best Mexican food you'll have since it is pretty Americanized, but it is good for what it is. Also a little tip if you like something a little more than Minnesota spicy... they have another hot sauce that they don't bring out right away unless you ask for it so give that a shot to give your dish a little extra kick. read more

We stop by to and had their ayce shrimp and fish with the salad bar. First off the waitress was excellent! Food on the other hand, not so great. This was our 2nd time trying this place and it was horrible. The salad dressing was really watery, and the tomatoes were mushy, the celery wasn't cleaned well. The fish was over cooked and batter was mushy inside. The shrimp were super tiny, but coated massively with batter that would be only good for chicken tenders. The fries were ok. The food was so hot from the deep fryer that we had to wait 10 min to eat it. The first bite burnt our mouths. read more

Good place to stop for a meal on your way north or south on 169. Portions are huge and reasonably priced. Service is very good. Flavoring was a bit on the bland side, but overall not too bad. The jalapeño poppers and chicken wings are good for appetizers. read more

I have driven past this place for 17 years on the way to my parents house, but have never stopped. Well, today was the day! The menu is typical of a small town bar/restaurant. Burgers & fries, sandwiches, various entrees and a few specials. Also an assortment of Mexican entrees. The portions are large. My husband ordered the chicken fajitas and I got a bacon cheese burger. Really nice and pleasant staff. Food was ok not bad but not great either. Ordered an Enchilada plate with 2 chicken and one cheese enchilada. The 2 chicken enchiladas were decent however the food came almost too fast and the cheese was not melted on top of all of the enchiladas and the cheese enchilada itself was cold. Yes I could have sent it back however having worked in a restaurant before I am aware of what sometimes happens to food when you do that. Restaurant is in a good location right off highway 169 South of Onamia, Minnesota. It has a friendly "up north" decor on the inside. Realize that sometimes restaurants have an off night so will give it one more try. read more

We've been going to Chico's for years and recommend to friends. Last night we went for the taco basket special and, sadly, it has changed. The meat had NO seasoning, reminded me of alpo without the seasoning for their tacos. The tacos have shrunk incredibly. Not worth the price at half price, I'd be ticked if I paid $10 for that basket! I used to eat 2 and had to give one to my husband, who was stuffed after four. Last night I was still hungry after two, but I knew my husband was extremely hungry yet after his 3, so I handed mine over, which wasn't a big sacrifice because they were terrible! (Thank God for DQ in milaca!) Same amazing waitress as always for the past 15+ years. Won't be back for a long time, maybe in 6 months we'll try again, I hate to judge too harshly on one really disappointing experience, but it was REALLY disappointing! read more

Keep driving!!! Waited over an hour for food. My daughter's chicken strips were raw. Raw!! Manager gave excuses about "working with new cooks" and a waitress was sent home early. Manager took 2 of 3 kids meals off off the bill and appetizers, but no more. Terrible experience. read more

It's a convenient little place to stop at when coming home from the cabin. The portions are big and the foods pretty good. The service however is horrible. We had to wait 20 minutes if not more just to get our drinks, then another 15 on our super easy chips and salsa. About 2 minutes after we got our chips and salsa we got our entrées, which was quite frustrating cause it gave us no time to enjoy our appetizer. We had to flag down a waitress (not our own) cause our waitress never came to see how our food was or to see if we wanted anything else to drink. After being there for 45 minutes we had to flag our waitress down again to ask for our bill and some boxes, which then took another 10 minutes to receive. Needless to say we love the food but we hate the service and unfortunately we won't be returning. read more

My husband & I as well as our 6 children use to enjoy eating at Chico's. Since they reopened, every time we have been there, we had a bad experience. Tonight was the worse of all and will NOT be back. The service in the dining room has greatly declined and the food doesn't always have the same taste. I have never been talked to by a waitress or waiter like I was tonight. My bourfriend and I went to chicos on Fathersday, we got there at 12:00 we where asked to seat ourselfs. We ordered the burrito and beef quesadilla. We had to wait 1 hour before I finally got my quesadilla, the waitress told us that it would be a little longer before the burrito was ready ( how long does it take to make a burrito). After 15 min. I asked the waitress (Charity L.) how long it is going to take before we get the burrito. She replied I will check on it. When she finally brought the burrito I told her that I had oredered beef quesadilla but hat got chicken instead, she just looked at me there was no apology for the mix up. Did I mentioned that the quesadilla was one big tortilla folded over with chicken inside and a lot of shredded cold cheese on top. Anyway the burrito was horrible it was lukewarm the hamburgermeat was very dry we had orederd beef burrito with fried beans, well there where no fried beans in the burrito. It was the worst meal we ever had in a restaurant, needless to say we will never go back there, read more

I'm trying to figure this place out. Went a couple of years ago and was not impressed and was not going to return. A friend told me he had been there recently and was really happy with it so we decided to give it another chance. Went there 2 weeks ago and I ordered the Enchiladas. My wife ordered a generic basket. The Enchiladas came with the salad bar. I got a big plate of Enchiladas (2 chicken, one beef). It was great. My wife tried it and wished she had ordered it also. Fast forward to tonight. We went again. Didn't even look at the menu, we both ordered the enchiladas. First we get told that they do not come with the salad bar this week! Fine, I don't eat salad anyway. Wife also ordered the salad bar. Then the food came. Same decent enchiladas, about half the size of the ones last week. Left feeling hungry and disappointed. Either there is a cook shorting the orders when the boss is gone, or the boss is a tightwad and the cook has to short the orders when the boss is there. The price was a good value 2 weeks age, and a lousy value today. Will NOT be returning. read more
