Chicken and mixed vegetables. Plain (extremely plain) fried rice. Lunch version
    Stephen V.

Stopped into the previous location of my favorite Chinese restaurant in the area, today it hosts Happy Wok. A couple years ago I was an occasional visitor to their previous address off Mineral Point. A drive through mostly, but they had a roomy sit down, but because it was probably a McDs type fast food, it wasn't really a dine in place. Back then I generally think I was pleased with the food. Learning that they were now at a very desirable location, following highly popular true Chinese trained chef, I was compelled to take a look. Large typically versatile menu, though I only viewed the lunch offerings. Chose a simple protein (chicken) and mixed vegetables. Extra spicy. When I inquired if white rice was included, I was told it could be substituted, as plain fried rice was the side. She did say plain, no meat. I found when I received my meal and opened it up at home, plain fried rice is indeed PLAIN fried rice. At least it wasn't yellow like too many (three come to mind) other so called Chinese restaurants offer. But this is so plain it makes the word plain even more bland than it is in print. But I'm ok with that, I have a super high heat induction wok and have (mostly) mastered fried rice, especially for a white man trying to cook like he'd hope to impress his Chinese chef friend. Which I have made two attempts at, successfully, or at least he was very convincingly polite. lol. So I'm halfway through, just need to prepare some velveted chicken or beef, chop some scallions, grab two eggs, and some frozen peas, and I have dinner queued up. The other part of the meal is very tasty and as is always the case, sorta hinting at spicy, which I can fix as well. All in, I have a new close to home place for my Chinese food fixation. Cool.

Food was terrible- grocery store Chinese food is much better- that says a lot. Will not go back.

Great food. Attentive staff. I recommend this restaurant highly. The pork pot stickers were particularly outstanding.

Had completely forgotten about this Chinese take out joint (but apparently they also deliver now as…read morewell)... but was looking for a Chinese take out joint for Xmas dinner. We had few if any expectations but wow for a take out joint, it's exactly what you'd expect and hope for. No it's not authentic in a Chinese culinary way... but it's completely authentic in an American Chinese take out experience. The Sesame noodles were awesome - lip smacking, tasty, and burning... clinched Ling Pow Chicken was decent. The pan fired dumplings completely serviceable. I'm glad we rediscovered this neighborhood Chinese take out joint.

I don't know what has happened to this place, but man is has turned poor, bad, and muy mal. If you…read moreknow, you know. The last two orders were not hot and fresh, they don't bother the read any instructions any more and the quality of the food is just so bad now. The sweet and sour chicken tasted fishy. The chicken lowmein is just dry noodles with some onions and bad tasting slimy chicken pieces. The pork egg rolls were soft and mushy and the hot and sour soup mimics preset jello. My daughter laughed as it jiggled. I would not recommend ordering from here until they relearn how to do Chinese food. If I were the owner, I would be embarrassed for this to represent me. Before it went in the dumps- The place is clean, the service is great and the food is always made to order. SO, it's always hot, fresh, and delicious. It's our go-to for great Chinese food. Would definitely recommend!

The menu prices were all at least a buck more expensive than what we expected from looking at the menus posted online. The Thai spring rolls were small but good. I ordered beef with vegetables stir fry with Hunan style sauce, which had one chili pepper icon hotness promised. The vegetables and beef ere okay, a bit on the skimpy side, but almost no chili heat and ruined by dumping sugar in it. I hate Chinese food destroyed by making it sweet for no reason other than to cater to some idiotic stereotype that Americans want sugar and grease in all their food. My son ordered beef and vegetable stir fry as well, with the Shanghai sesame sauce. He had the same complaint, his was supposed to have two chili pepper icon hotness but he said it wasn't hot at all, and he said it too was sugary. Big disappointment. Even the fortune cookies were disappointing, some crap about being a hit on social media. Stop dumping sugar into everything! Don't say it has some chili heat then serve it bland! I guess I understand why we were the only customers. The hunt continues for a nearby Chinese restaurant that does a good job. If we ever return, I will interrogate the guy taking the order and specifically ask if they have anything on the menu not ruined by dumping unnecessary sugar into it.
