We had few if any expectations but wow for a take out joint, it's exactly what you'd expect and hope for. No it's not authentic in a Chinese culinary way... but it's completely authentic in an American Chinese take out experience. The Sesame noodles were awesome - lip smacking, tasty, and burning... clinched Ling Pow Chicken was decent. The pan fired dumplings completely serviceable. I don't know what has happened to this place, but man is has turned poor, bad, and muy mal. If you know, you know. The last two orders were not hot and fresh, they don't bother the read any instructions any more and the quality of the food is just so bad now. The sweet and sour chicken tasted fishy. The chicken lowmein is just dry noodles with some onions and bad tasting slimy chicken pieces. The pork egg rolls were soft and mushy and the hot and sour soup mimics preset jello. My daughter laughed as it jiggled. I would not recommend ordering from here until they relearn how to do Chinese food. If I were the owner, I would be embarrassed for this to represent me. Before it went in the dumps- The place is clean, the service is great and the food is always made to order. SO, it's always hot, fresh, and delicious. It's our go-to for great Chinese food. I wasn't sure whether to add or deduct a star for portion size. The upshot is, they provide plenty of very bad food. Everything was crummy, from the tasteless fried rice with frozen peas and carrot cubes tossed in, to a chicken dish with virtually no chicken. The only Chinese place I've ever had Chinese take out that doesn't have any Asian personnel. I think I've been there 3 time in as many years and I've concluded I'll never see them. I like the food generally. Tonight I'm a bit disappointed. Perhaps it's not a good idea to order Mongolian dishes in my case because I am not overly excited about sugar in the recipe. But some degree of sweetness is to be expected in many Asian dishes and perhaps I ordered the one that typically has more than I like. IDK. But I do know this is almost a desert thing, well beyond savory. This is far too sweet, so much so that I'm actually concerned my glucose levels are going to be far higher than I'm comfortable with tomorrow if I eat this! Smells good though. I've had to add spice because even though I requested it be extra hot, it was not remotely spicy. Lacking in garlic as well, so I added some dried black garlic as well. My dentist will probably be asking me about this as well when I visit him next week, I'm thinking I'll be getting a filling for sure following this meal. I've rethought my words after sending a bit over half my dinner down the disposal. My head is pounding, literally. I think the sugar infusion I just consumed is going to put me into a diabetic coma possibly. I don't eat sugar period since January when I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and my A1C was at like 11 or something horrible. Last week my doctor informed me I'm down around 5 tops these days. To preface, I've only had takeout from this establishment. Further, I've had only the General Tso's chicken, and chicken with broccoli (plus egg rolls/crab rangoons). With all of that said, I have no complaints with the quality or quantity of food in the dishes I've had. It is always hot and timely. The employees are always friendly. What put me at a five-star rating is that it is entirely predictable -- I know and like what I'm getting, which I can say after placing dozens of orders. I know at least one reviewer has doubled-down on their criticism that there are no Chinese employees here, which in my opinion is bizarre and irrelevant when talking about a takeout place serving Americanized Chinese cuisine....Again, the employees have always been good to me. Not idea at all why this place has any bad reviews. We just ordered 12 different items and ALL of them were amazing. My husband LOVED the Singapore Mei Fun even though the spice level was high. He kept sweating and saying how good it was! The Beef Egg Foo Young was crazy good - same with the Moo Shu Pork. They also gave us Chinese donuts for dessert which were fresh and hot - covered in sugar. YUM! Don't listen to the couple stupid reviews here - their food is high quality and truly delish. read more

I've been ordering from China Wok for about 3 years now. The food is always fresh and the employees are consistently friendly and helpful. I'll be honest, I tend to stick to pretty basic items when ordering Chinese take-out, but I'm really particular about them. I haven't found another general tso's chicken or egg drop soup I like nearly as much in this area. I also love their fried dumplings and veggie spring rolls. They have never once messed up one of my changes or substitutions, either (like a different kind of rice with a combo, adjusting the spice level, etc). Love this place! read more

My favorite lunch anywhere. I try to get friends to go every week. Lunch include fried rice and a spring roll. Served on a heaping plate if you stay there. Chicken and string beans is my favorite. Dinners are so big it always takes two meals to finish it. Love the Mongolian Chicken, Beef, or triple. My family loves the shrimp meals too. Wish this was still the most awesome Chinese buffet ever. read more

It sounded good so I called and ordered $10 worth of food, which took way longer than it should have, and when I was finished they told me it had to be at least $15. I have tried several entrees and a wide array of the appetizers here and I would rate all of them a 2 or 3 out of 5. My main complaint is that the chicken in all of my dishes,(orange chicken, sweet and sour chicken, general tso's chicken, etc) has been rubbery, and often overcooked to the point of being hard and gross. If you want cheap chinese delivery that is edible, then I guess this place will do, but if you want your food to actually be better than "meh" I wouldn't reccommend it. read more

I come here fairly regularly only because it is close to work and it's a buffet (when I'm craving more than just one dish). The food is mediocre, but I do really like the lo mein, egg drop soup, crab Rangoon, bbq chicken, and pepper chicken. There are others that aren't too bad. I find the general tso, which is a favorite of mine at most places is very mild and soggy. The people who ruin the place are interesting. The woman who is always there is sweet and always checking up on you. The man, however, is fairly rude and rarely acknowledges me even when he's the one at the cash register while I'm paying the bill. Convenience is the biggest thing that keeps me coming back though. read more

Some of the food on the buffet is quite good. The Szechwan pork and barbecue pork stand out in my recollection. The fried rice is memorable for its blandness and frozen peas and carrots. Cabbage was apparently the only ingredient that they could find to stuff their egg rolls with. This gets lows ratings for staff and service. We were barely acknowledged upon entrance and completely ignored when attempting to pay. One drink refill arrived at all, and even then it was about 7 minutes later than desired. The manager chatted quite loudly on his phone while we and several others tried to settle our bills. He grunted in lieu of speaking and made his best effort to lob the receipts over the counter to avoid ever being within 6 inches of his customers. read more

I really don't understand all of the bad reviews for this restaurant. It is a buffet, not a sit down restaurant and is far and away the best Chinese buffet in the Madison area. And having eaten at close to 100 Chinese buffets around the country, I have no problem saying it is way above average. The owners are there every day and even coming in for a late lunch, the food is usually still in pretty good shape. And having eaten many times at Imperial Garden, there are several items I would take off the buffet here first. read more

I had a very good experience with them. I ordered my food online at 8:43PM and received it at exactly 9:03PM. Granted where I am at is pretty close, but the delivery was quick. The food was pretty good for the delivery and it was still hot. I made the delivery with the $15 minimum cost. It was no problem at all because I ordered for others as well. I only recently learned of this place after they dropped off menus at all the doors at my apartment building. I haven't visited their restaurant location but I've ordered delivery several times and the food has been pretty good. I've had better but only at local Chinese restaurants that don't offer delivery. I've been pretty happy with their delivery service too. So far it hasn't taken more than 30-45min for my orders to get here. They certainly offer a WAY better delivery minimum ($15) compared to the only other Chinese restaurant that I'm aware of that delivers in Middleton ($30 YIKES). I think it would be nice if they listed this minimum on the menus that they left, though. This minimum is listed on their beyondmenu page. read more

I typically hate and do not recommend Chinese buffets, but this is totally the exception. I have been going to this buffet for a few years now, and it is great every time. They don't overstock the buffet, so they keep the items fresh all the time. From the soups, to apps to the main dishes, is very good food. Remember, its Chinese, so stay away from the sushi, its not up to par with the rest of the buffet. Finally, there is ice cream kind of hidden in the back. Put a scoop or two on top of a hot doughunt or two and you will finish in heaven. read more

The china wok buffet is the best Chinese buffet I've ever been too! I only give it a 4 instead of a 5 because if i find something better(very unlikely) i won't be able to rate it as such. This buffet has everything you could want from Chinese food. It has a delicious array of chicken's, pork, and seafood. My personal fav's are the Tso's, peppered chicken, crab cheese bake, deep fried shrimp, and the baked salmon. Their crab Rangoon, egg rolls, and soup are fair. Finally their desert. Unlike most Chinese buffets I've been to this one buckets of ice cream. You serve yourself but you get a decent assortment of Mint Chocolate chip, strawberry, butter pecan, and birthday cake. If your ever in the mood to over indulge on food at a really good price. I definitely recommend going here. read more

I went to this restaurant China Wok in middleton with my family for lunch buffet. The smell as you enter is awful. Secondly the seats are not clean either. The food was not good compared to what Chinese Cuisine I've had at other places. To top this all, this place is not hygenic at all, we found bunch of hairs cooked along with chicken, thank god we found this as soon as we sat on the table. The owner/manager of the restaturant after being told, was very rude and unapologetic. We decided to walk out of the restaurant. To my agony, they said we were to pay for 4 people... even though we did not eat. Forget about hygiene, you took a plate and you need to pay. What ever we paid and left that stinky place. Hubby and I love this place. We've had Chinese food all over the country, including Chinatown in San Francisco, and we think the food here is just great. The sauces are so delicious, the veggies are crisp, they put a ton of shrimp in their dishes, and the meats are good quality (some buffets have really fatty, tough meat). If you want the buffet, you need to be here between 11:30 and 1:30 when dishes are hot and fresh. They have additional dishes at the dinner buffet, but we think lunch is the best deal.
