It's a quaint dim sum shop that's great for grabbing some items to-go. I also like that it's so conveniently located next to the F train stop. When I came in around 3pm, a lot of items were already sold out. Definitely recommend coming earlier in the day. I ended up grabbing chicken feet, pork spareribs over rice, shrimp dumplings, and turnip cake all for $16 (so that's $4 per item). My kids love their version of the ham & egg bao; with fluffy eggs & a slice of ham stuffed & baked inside the bao. Right next door - the fried "gaow-ji" is pre-cooked and then the lovely ladies fried them up! It's deliciously stuffed with pork & veggies! The steamed pearl chicken - aka - glutinous rice stuffed with minced pork; is one of my kids' favorite. Total cost usually lands me about $13 for all the goods! (2 fried dumplings, 2 fresh shrimp churn fun, 3 Jun Ji Cai). It's a small cozy shop, grab & go! The hot food has a few stools for anyone looking for some alone time. I have been going to this bakery for about two years. They have inexpensive breakfast items and they taste decent. Since it's just around the corner, it's a great grab and go place especially for my kids to have something before they go to school. A complaint I have been holding back until now to write about is their lack of good customer service. They yell at you when they ask for you order. Today I had the worst experience, I asked if they more items in the back. One lady angrily yelled how many as if I was bothering her when I asked if there were more buns in the back. When she came out with the wrong bun, she again yelled at me for not saying it clearly and it was my fault that she pulled the wrong bun out. I have been having mixed feelings about this place recently. I have been going to this place for years and it has alway been my go to place for Asian bakeries especially birthday cakes. But lately some of the items have not been good. The egg tart and sesame balls are still delicious and I have no complaints. They are just the way I like them. The single cake slices and chicken sandwich I had was not good at all. The cake was dry and the fruit in the center of the cake between the layers was not fresh at all. The chicken sandwich tasted old like the chicken was bad so I just ate the bun with the mayo. I have gotten it here many times over the last few years but the last two times has been disappointing. This is my favorite takeout spot in all of Chinatown, possibly in all of NYC. Note that this place consists of a bakery (on the right side) and a hot food restaurant (with four to five stools for seating, on the left side). The value and efficiency cannot be beat. Bakery: My go-to pastry is the taro bun ($1), which, when warm and fresh, is so soft in the brioche-like bun and comes with a generous amount of sweet taro paste. The crumbly sugar top (similar to what is found in the pineapple buns) give it extra texture. They have most of the other buns that are found in Chinese bakeries, such as roasted pork, red bean paste, and coconut buns as well as egg tarts. I also like their fried chestnut cakes (made with agar for a jelly-like texture) and fried taro cakes (nian gao). While I generally avoid sweetened drinks, a good variety of novel teas and juices with chia seeds, tapioca pearls, sago, etc. are also available. Their prices are competitive with other establishments. Restaurant: So many options! The options range from dimsum options (e.g. steamed dumplings, changfeng, shiu mai, etc.), Western breakfast options (e.g. toast for $1), to vegetable sides and meals with rice (chicken and mushroom for $2.95 is particularly good), and much, much more. The service is fast and efficient. Even though they've priced slightly recently, the food is still a great value and as good as what you'd find at other Chinese restaurants for cheaper. We enjoyed everything! Best part! All this cost about $7-8. Almost every bread/pastry is $1, tax included. If I had more cash, I probably would have bought one of every type of bread haha. Strongly recommend the egg tart. My favorite out of everything I tried. So yummy. English is not a strong point, but the workers were very friendly and did their best to make suggestions in English as my boyfriend only speaks English.
