For the past year since I moved to Portage Park, I have been bouncing from nails salons. Add in the fact I work a good 50+ hours a week and I constantly wash my hands; so it is either a no chip or nothing for my nails. I was super happy to hear that a new salon was opening literally 2 blocks from my house. My first visit was awesome. I believe her name was Don. She made me feel really welcomed by keeping up conversation and doing an excellent job on my no chip. She even complimented me on the length of my natural nails and color selections. I prefer my nails on the natural rounder style. My second visit was just as good, the nail tech didn't talk much. But he did ask me how I wanted my nails shaped, the length I wanted and told me if a particular style (i.e French tipped) would work. The best part was one of my nails started to split and he saved it instead of cutting it down.
I was hoping the 3rd time would be just as charmed but ...as I type this, reliving the experience, I am getting more and more pissed. I came in about 4pm for a pedi/no chip; they set me up for my pedi and my feet were in the water 20 mins before someone came over to start. I definitely understand it is closer to the holidays and therefore everything is busy, so the wait wasn't an issue. The guy who did my feet came over with a smile but didn't give me the pedi I expected. There were 2 major problems with my pedi and a 3rd extreme that occurred later. The first problem was the cutting/shaping of my nails, he filed and cut everything horribly. The second problem is his "massage" and pruning, left my feet feeling worse than working a 12hr shift, 4 days in a row. The third extreme problem is the nail polish came off as soon as I took a bath the next day. My toenails are jagged, crooked and short; what is worse is that I just came off a 3 week old pedi that looks better than this day old pedi.
Well of course I had just been here 2 weeks before and had an awesome perfectly shaped no chip still on. He starts to remove my polish and has the filer on too high, he seems to be in a rush. Evidenced by the fact he tried, way to hard, to remove the polish after a mere 1 min soak. The nail the previous tech had mended got caught again so I told this guy to ONLY cut that one. He doesn't ask me about the shape, just starts filing and buffing the shit out of my nails. When I can finally pull my hand away I see that he has filed them square....they are also short and thin. Which is what happens when you file round nails square, roughly. When I complain about the shape/length he actually gets an attitude with me as if it is my fault. I had long, healthy nails that people thought were fake and now they don't even expand past my fingertips.
His rough filing resulted in jagged nails on my fingers too..a nail caught and ripped while I was pulling off my coat at home. So now the skin around my toes and hands burn when in hot water, I have short boy nails and chipped polish on my toes....all for $50. I am so disappointed, so much that I had to actually post a review on yelp instead of just reading them. read more
