Chinatown is full of boba places, and Happy Lemon is one of the good ones! I got the ube milk tea with taro puff cream and taro balls (25% sugar, less ice) and the Oreo bubble waffle. The drink was pretty yummy and still sweet with less sugar, and I liked both the taste and texture of the taro balls. They were nice and soft with the perfect amount of chew. The Oreo bubble waffle was also tasty. It was crispy in the beginning but quickly had more of a mochi texture as it cooled. In general, I feel like boba places are getting quite overpriced, and Happy Lemon was no exception. This location is pretty small, so prepare to take your food and drinks to go as there are no tables to sit at. Overall, I'd come again for a to-go treat if I was in the area. read more

My first experience with this Franchise was in Sacramento and I absolutely loved it! So when I found out Houston would opening up a few franchises I was excited! Super cute inside. The drinks here are definitely a little bit on the pricier end, but the drinks here are really good quality. Unfortunately, there is not really seating for you to stay and chat with your friends. It's very small inside. There are only 2 benches, but it seemed like it would mainly be for you to sit while you wait to get your drinks and then you leave. I've been here twice. The first time I came here, I tried one of their popular drinks, "kumquad lemon green tea with lychee jelly." It's on the more sour end, but this drink was still really refreshing. If I were to get this drink again, I think I'd get less sugar because the sugar was pretty overwhelming. For the second time I came here, I tried the strawberry green tea. I absolutely love this flavor in general, and the strawberry green tea here was one of the best that I've had. It was so refreshing and the flavor was perfect. I loved the Katy Asian town Happy Lemon so we decided to try the one in Bellaire. I ordered the green tea w/ salted cheese, freshly squeezed lemon green tea, the original waffle with salted cheese and chocolate waffle. I was a little disappointed with this place. Starting with the green tea w/salted cheese-- it was very water downed and the salted cheese was not creamy and thick as they should be. The freshly squeezed lemon green tea is anything but freshly squeezed. The lemonade taste very bitter as if the lemons had been sitting in the water the whole day. The waffles where a little too soft for my liking and the salted cheese dip was a little to runny. I wished they were a little crispier. Overall. I prefer the Katy location. I tried Happy Lemon recently and overall had a great experience. I am not a big boba fanatic so it does get overwhelming for me to order. Usually I ask the workers for suggestions and tell them I prefer sweeter drinks. I got the Okinawa Fresh Milk w/ Boba and it was alright, nothing great. Dragon Fruit & Lychee Juice with Salted Cheese: 9/10, The dragon fruit and lychee juice combine to create an incredible flavor, and the cheese foam adds just the right amount of saltiness amongst the sweetness. The bubbles are soft, chewy, and sweet! My only complaint is that I asked for 75% sugar and it was still too sweet. I would recommend asking for less sugar on this one. Milk Tea with Salted Cheese: 6/10, the milk tea has a rich, salty flavor that's unlike anything I've tried before. The cheese foam is amazing. My only complaint is that the drink overall is saltier than I would like, and after a while I got tired of it. Happy Lemon is a little on the pricey side ($6/drink), but definitely worth it! Another fun boba spot in Chinatown - this spot is certainly bright and cute, drawing you in to see what this lemon is so happy about. We came after work on a Thursday and there was no line; service was friendly and quick. I opted for the D5 Boba Milk Tea w/ Puff Cream while my friend got the D3 Oreo Milk Tea. I don't really know what puff cream is, but it was delicious. The boba was nice and soft and the milk tea was well balanced, not too sweet. Only drawback here is the small location; there are no tables inside to stay and enjoy your drink, but they do have one outside. Besides the lack of seating, their boba milk tea with puff cream was a really fun drink that I wouldn't be able to find anywhere else, so that was quite unique. I got half sugar and I thought it was the perfect amount of sweetness. They also have a line of lemon drinks and my friend got their lemon squeezed tea, which she seemed to enjoy. They also have a line of drinks where they blend the whole lemon into the drink and sift out the fiber/rind, and that sounded pretty cool. I would probably try this next time. It also lacked any tea flavor - I'd describe it as a sugary mango drink. The mango boba was alright, but wasn't chewy like you'd expect boba to be. The matcha bubble waffle was delicious - hot and with a pretty good matcha flavor. Definitely a little on the expensive side too - I ended up paying ~$20 after tip for two drinks and a bubble waffle. This place is tiny. My friends and I went on a random Wednesday late at night so there was only a few people in front of us. I can't imagine how it is on a weekend or Friday. You get a cute little lemon gal token (reminded me of the Whataburger tents) with your order number on it and they call it out when it's ready at the counter. It's a to go place - no tables/seating other than the two benches if you're waiting on drinks. The menu offers lots of options and it's all customizable. I tried the grapefruit with Yakult and it was a tad too sweet but very refreshing. Next time I'll lower the sweetness level. Excited to try other things on the menu! read more

Becareful for other customers here. Got charged 2 times on credit card when only make 1 time purchased at this store. At first I told the cashier the first time payment went thru already, but then he told me to pay again. I went to the store twice trying to get my refund, but cashiers & manager doesn't wanna solve this situation for a customer. Happy Lemon is my current favorite tea bar in all of Houston right now. My go to drink is - black tea or roasted tea with sea salt foam, 20-25% sugar, with taro balls as toppings, and less ice. I like to shake it up (or use straw to stir really fast for 10 seconds) to get that delicious creamy milktea taste, but even better because it's tea with their famous milk foam. I cannot get enough of it! They don't use Square for rewards like most other places, and you need to either keep the rewards card or number to get rewards. I have yet to venture outside my usual. My review is a focus on D6: Ube Milk Tea with Taro Puff Cream and Taro Balls. First, I will say that I am a stickler between the differences of Ube vs. Taro and how they are not interchangeable. But instead of going into a rant, I would say that this is more Taro Milk Tea than an Ube Milk Tea. Aside from that I think that this drink is delicious! The taro balls is mixed in with tapioca, which gives it a chewy, yet slightly gritty texture. What is the Asian definition of it's good? "It's not too sweet!" Even though I order it as 100% sugar, I do not need to reduce it to 75%, which I often times have to do at other boba shops. I will definitely be coming back to try out their other drinks! Although I throughly enjoyed both of the drinks I have tried here because of the fresh and authentic ingredients in the drinks, I am disappointed by the lack of space this location offers. There are only two benches inside, just enough to sit and wait for your drinks. The only seating available is reserved for staff. If you are just grabbing to-do then this wouldn't be a big deal, but it really takes away from the boba experience of sitting down and sipping on tea while hanging out and chatting away with your friends. The Ube MT w/Taro Cream Puff & Taro Balls tasted very authentic because of the real taro. I asked for regular sweetness but this drink was not very sweet to begin with. It was my first time trying cheese foam so I was a little over dramatic lol I was so sad cuz we don't have a Happy Lemon in HTown but now we have 2!! Despite busy work schedule and my lazy a.. , I finally tried out HL Bellaire!! Woohoo!! Cons first: not a good location. Too small imo. Not a ideal place for dine in, only suitable for togos. Customers have to wait outside to order if there's over 3 parties waiting to order inside. D6 which is ube milk tea was not my fav. Tbh I reminded me of walking into a hotel with cigarettes smell all over. I know it sounds very dumb and weird but idk lol wasn't a fan anyways. Pros: service is fast . I first tried this in California, and happy they now have a couple stores in Houston. This location doesn't have seating inside so it's really more of a buy and go kind of setup. This not a sit inside and hang with friends place. My go-tos is the salted cheese series (yes, I love the sweet and salty creaminess!) - I'd usually get A1: Green tea w/ salted cheese or A2: Black tea w/ salted cheese. I've tried the mango lemon slushy and it was reallllly lemony so if you like fresh lemon/sour stuff, this might be your kind of drink as a thirst quencher. Overall, I'd recommend!
