This place was a nice surprise and throwback to the diners older generations might remember. This is a family owned diner literally on the side of a private airstrip. Parking lot is relatively large and easy to find at the end of the cul de sac. Walking up, they have some signs pointing out the entrance, which is literally next to airplane hangers. There is plenty of seating inside with large windows facing the runway, where you can see various small craft taking off and landing. There seemed to be regulars mixed in with the multitude of other customers. Service was good and the food was kind of old school. Simple recipes that a working man or woman would enjoy before heading out to work. I ended up with the country fried steak, which includes two eggs your way, breakfast potatoes, and toast. The country fried steak reminded me of old school cooking from the 70s and 80s and definitely brought back some memories. It was entertaining watching the young kid at the table next to us really enjoy his time watching the planes land and take off. Wife was pretty mesmerized with it too...lol. All in, I really enjoyed the experience and food would go back. Maybe next time, I'll go for lunch to try out a burger or sandwich. read more

What a cool little place to dine! Especially if you have kiddos! I'm an adult and the fascination of seeing small planes take off and land is still high :) This cafe is family owned and sits in a small landing field so you can see small aircraft as you dine. There is also the ability to pay for rides. How cool! Service was great! Staff is so friendly and attentive. Food was also out quick. They also offer gluten free bread! The food is good too! Honestly, everything I've tried here has been great. What really makes this place special is the experience. It's positioned right on a private airport, so you can sit and watch small planes take off and land on the runway. My 5-year-old absolutely loved it, and it made the meal even more memorable. Such a cute place located alongside the runway enabling diners to observe the planes while eating. Very clean inside. The food was good and exactly as ordered. So nice when hash browns are served crispy. Unfortunately the service, as noted by others, was incredibly slow. The young man who seated me quickly brought coffee but nobody approached to take my order. I ultimately flagged down a server that was racing by. Found the Happy Hangar on Yelp and my wife and I stopped in to give it a try. The restaurant is located just off the runway at a small local airport. You can sit outside and watch as the planes take off and land- very neat! Inside is a fairly standard diner style restaurant. Clean and well kept- great service... though my coffee cup did wind up empty and no refilled towards the end of our meal. Ahhh well. The biscuits and gravy were tasty as was the bacon (which soooo many places don't know how to cook!) and the sausage. My eggs were done to perfection and I gobbled down everything in my plate! I'm NOT much of a Trump fan... sadly there were some pretty impossible-to-miss political posters and all the TV's were tuned to Fox News... it really reduced my experience a bit (hence 4 stars vs 5. The moment you walk in you are immediately shown a big blue reminder that this is NOT a welcoming atmosphere for all. I would have immediately walked out and patronized someplace else, but I was looking at the vintage bi-plane outside and my wife sat down and already began to order coffee before I walked in. This place must be confident that they can immediately go out of their way to create a politically charged & hostile atmosphere with their decor but I think l that's a crazy way to run a business. No idea why they'd want to go out of they're way to alienate over half the population. Perhaps the owner is a racist and wants to virtue signal that. I'm Hispanic and have had to endure plenty of racist remarks from these types of people, and I got the sense I was not welcome here. I had been wanting to try this place for a while now, so my husband and I decided to go last Sunday morning. We were greeted immediately and told a table was being cleaned for us. We were then seated promptly. That's the only positive I can give them. Several minutes passed with no one coming to our table to greet us or take our drink order. Two tables that were seated after us were waited on immediately. Another several minutes passed, with the other tables now having coffee/drinks on their tables, and still nothing. After about 10 minutes my husband asked the hostess if someone would be waiting on us. She looked confused, even though she was the one that sat us and our table was right next to where she had been standing, and just shook her head yes and walked outside. After another several minutes (and every server walking by our table several times each) we walked out. The hostess just stared at us, saying nothing. This is the place to come for a southern style breakfast and down home cooking. They serve breakfast all day -- and that's what 5 in our group ordered. One of the kids had a patty melt for lunch. He said it had onions, mushrooms and cheese on a medium cooked burger between slices of grill cooked rye bread. He really liked it. The house made fries were a hit, as well. The breakfast folks had a little of everything -- chocolate pancakes, a cheese omelet, scrambled eggs, hash browns, grits, bacon, sausage, corned beef hash, toast, biscuits, even biscuits and sausage gravy. I had a half order of the biscuits and gravy. The biscuits were very good -- light and fluffy. The sausage gravy had nice chunks and was peppery. I had them do the corned beef hash well done and it was quite good, also. Nice to have one not from a can for a change. Our service was fast and friendly. Amenable to all our special requests and drink refills . We overlooked the lack of masks and the big Trump 2020 signs on the wall. We took a detour on our way to Tarpon Springs and found this gem behind a residential area. The service was top notch, being from Fort Lauderdale and a former restaurant worker, I was in awe and so grateful we made this detour. People are super friendly, the portions are HUGE. Laurencia was a gem, she was helpful, prompt and made our visit all the better. It so happened to be a antique car meet-up so we got to experience a nice blast from the past. If you're able to, get a table outside so you can see the planes depart and land. Now on to the food, we had the Hangar Special. 3 eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, biscuits and gravy and hashbrowns. Wowza. I've read all the reviews that cover the ups & downs of service & food. Perhaps we got lucky; our food was very good & our service was fast & satisfactory. Watching planes take off from the runway was definitely an added bonus. Located off Hwy 54, not too far from I-75, this restaurant is on the grounds of a private small engine hangar. It has been open since 2013. The hangar itself opened in 1966 or 1968-- staff wasn't sure which. There is inside seating as well as three large outside wooden picnic tables on the covered patio-- SEE PIC. If you are politically left & easily offended by politically right visuals, you will not want to eat inside; there are Trump banners on the walls-- SEE PICS. However, there are no banners on the patio. And if you insist on everyone wearing masks, this is NOT the restaurant for you. Since September, businesses in almost all Florida cities & towns have had a choice on whether masks are mandatory. This business has no mandate for employees or customers. The cafe & The 1941 Stearman (that guests may arrange a flight on-- see pics) are owned by pilot Keith Carver. I paid $250 to fly @ 1,000 ft (100 mph) to Anclote Island. The 45-min trip was WONDERFUL! But, the cafe alone is GREAT! According to Keith, the Cuban, the Ruben, & the wings are the best anywhere. However, I know for a fact that the Bacon Cheese Burger w/ a side of onion rings ($9.99) was EXCELLENT. I have always disliked corned beef hash, but since our waitress recommended it, I ordered it...& it was EXCELLENT @ $4.25! It was fresh, not mushy, & the meat was very tender-- SEE PIC. My egg & biscuit were basic (& good) as were my diced potatoes-- just $5.49 for all three. The large Pumpkin Pancake @ $2.99 was also EXCELLENT! With its mild flavor & cinnamon, it was definitely the BEST I've ever eaten-- SEE PIC. My friend loved her Cinnamon French toast ($5.99) w/ sausage ($2), & her husband enjoyed his fresh Grilled Chicken Salad @ $8.99-- SEE PICS. We'll definitely return! The jams & jellies are pre-packaged (West Creek brand), & the syrup is Mrs. Butterworths-- nothing fancy here; hence, the low prices. For NON-MEAT EATERS, there's a plant based burger & a black bean burger. Children have a choice of 4 breakfasts & 4 lunch offerings. (I posted pics of the Feb 2021 menu.) Should you decide to eat inside, there are windows from which to see the small engine planes take off & land, but you'll have a much better view if you choose to dine on the porch. Breakfast & lunch are served all day long; the restaurant closes @ 2 PM seven days a week. N0TE: Should you wish to linger & talk, eat slowly; staff will gently ask you to vacate the table once you finish; on the weekend, there are diners awaiting available tables, so staff tries to move people along. It's your mom and dad just pushing out good home cooked meals. I would say I wish they offered pork Sausage links. But honestly that's not a big deal. I always come for breakfast never anything else. I can't believe I've lived here all my life and never knew this place existed. I mean you would NEVER know this place existed unless someone told you. It's literally IN a neighborhood subdivision! It's a charming little diner spot in the middle of Zephyrhills but rather close to Lutz. I had the buiscuits and gravy and then some ala cart items like toast and grits, eggs and bacon added to my plate. You can sit outside and watch the small planes fly in and out of the tarmac 30 feet in front of you. The best time to go is in the morning because that's when the planes go out... towards the afternoon it's just totally laid back and quiet. They have a vast aray of breakfast items and a pretty awesome lunch menu that I can't wait to go back and try out. I'm always on the look out for a good Rueben and they had one on the menu! Used to be a great place to grab a traditional cafe meal. However, since COVID service has been consistently poor. For example, got food order placed after waiting over 15 minutes than another 15 minutes until served flat cokes while waiting on food. The one good server that we would regularly get seems to have left since the HUGE Trump flags are now hung in the cafe. No thanks! Haven't been back since. The Happy Hangar Cafe is very much a traditional type of diner. The prices are reasonable (cheaper than most places), the portions are large and the food is excellent. The service and attentiveness of the servers is also extremely good (my coffee mug was kept hot and full). I typically frequent First Watch, The Breakfast Nook, Brunchies and a few others. The Happy Hangar Cafe is now on the list as a welcome addition. If the weather is decent you can have your meal seated outside at one of the tables. You have a great view of the landing strip as planes land and take off. It is obviously a local hang-out and everyone was very friendly. Will definitely be returning. read more

This is a fun place! YES, in the middle of an airstrip for small planes. Don't worry, it is not dangerous and I believe they do plane rides too. The food is fantastic and as requested, we called for pickup since we had a long ride ahead of us. This place is worth the stop. Inside the restaurant is a fun aeronautical feel but not overdone. Some cool things to look at, read, and just gaze at. Yes, I guess "look at" and "gaze" might be construed as one in the same, but I say Ney! The picture I took is of the sidewalk you need to take to get from parking lot to front of restaurant. There is a sign, but I thought the visual aide was helpful.
