We had just gotten finished driving for about 10 hours and wanted to sit down to relax. I wasn't too pleased that the dining room was closed and only take out was available. I really didn't want to take food back to our hotel but my wife wanted to try it. We ordered sesame chicken and the beef chow fun. Neither of which blew our socks off. It wasn't bad, just nothing really special. We are originally from San Francisco so perhaps we are a bit biased having eaten some of the best Chinese food you can get. Perhaps next time we are in Lamar, the dining room will be open and we can try it again when it's fresh from the kitchen. read more

We stopped in on a Sunday, traveling back home to TX. The first thing you notice when you walk in the door is the smell of rancid cooking oil. The one waitress was in no hurry to acknowledge us & told us to just sit anywhere. There was one couple in the restaurant, but it took her about 10 minutes to bring over the menus & take our drink order. We both got water & my glasses looked extremely stained & the water tasted & smelled funny. We sat there & watched the waitress take care of several to go orders. We waited about 15 minutes & finally just got up & left because we started worrying that if we ate here we would be sick, since the smell was already making us both nauseous. This was my first time here and I thought you had to wait for the waitress to sit you but you don't. You can sit yourself and they'll be with you. I ordered the chicken and broccoli entree. You have the choice of rice or noodles and egg roll or wonton. As you can see in the picture what I chose. The food came out hot and fresh. The staff were courteous and friendly throughout my visit. We were the "one couple in the restaurant" for the one-star review above. Let me clarify. There was a sign at the door that said "sit anywhere" and the waitress repeated that for our benefit. Once seated I watched a very busy young lady doing her best to attend to delivery and to-go orders as people filtered in. She made my tea with loose leaf and a french press. Her suggestions and help were incredible considering the pace she had to keep. The food came out hot and fresh without any signs of being left under a heat lamp or allowed time to cool. Now the wife and I are finishing up a long week of travel to some great resorts and interesting food. This was the best food of our entire trip. And I'll also state that this was the best Chinese food I've had in over a year. They used good shitake musrooms and reasonable amounts of tofu in the hot and sour, unlike places that use more common shrooms and big chunks of tofu as a filler. The jalapeno beef was flavorful, tender, and as spicy as advertised. It also lacked some of the bits of less palatable meat you get in many such places. The real star of the show though, was the kung pao combination with big 20-25ish shrimp,tender silked chicken, and beef as good as the above plate. There was a medium spice to it all, and big rustic cuts of celery and carrot mixed in with the onions and peanuts all in a red chile sauce. Our glasses and dishes were clean, the water tasted like...well...water. And the only smells I detected were good cooking. Oh, we're also returning to TX, and I spent over a decade as a chef/sous chef/master cook in some great places. My palate is fairly discerning and I still give this an enthusiastic endorsement. read more

The food was very good! Very flavorful and well made. I was impressed to find a good tasting Asian cuisine in a small community. The service could of been better and more proficient. I was waiting to be seated and a large portion of people in line at the counter were ordering food to go. They would take their order and people would crowd the front causing a crowd. When their order was ready they paid the cashier. I think if the paid when then first placed their order it would make it a bit faster. The staff needed further training, seems every time some issue popped up they called the owner who was cooking to come to the front... some of my observations. So we ordered from here because it had a 4.5 rating, well that must have been inflated by the owner. So the " chicken chow fun" was no fun at all. It was suppose to have veggies and as you can see by the picture there were none. The crispy duck was like taking your life into your own hands with every bite, small bones in every bite and dry as the dirt around here. The ride rice was rice with soy sauce. Sorry but I am just trying to save others from making the mistake we made by going here. The best part about this Mel was they put the duck on lettuce and we got to feed it to the chickens where we were staying. read more

Some of the best Chinese I've had. Dinner. Wife had shrimp in lobster sauce. Huge portion. Kind of like a soup version of the dish. Egg drop style. Very good. I had volcano rice cooked mild. For where it's located, going in and not expecting much is best route. Food was tasty for what it was, simple, no frills basic fill your empty stomach type of food. Our boys had General Tso's Chicken (rather interesting on the electric red of the color!), and husband and I had Pad Thai and Sriracha Chicken. Big plates of food, you are pretty much guaranteed to leave with leftovers. Added: well, avoid the General Tso's chicken as much as possible. Both kids felt sick to their stomachs afterwards and one was sick all night. Hey, Happy Garden, maybe it's a good idea to eliminate the scary looking red dye in the sauce for the dish! I've never seen anything quite the shade before! If I didn't have teenagers that think they are immune to everything in life, I would have made them get something else. Guess this was a great lesson for them to realize they shouldn't eat such unnatural looking colors! read more

If you want to good place to eat, always as the locals. They know where the best places are and this was one of their favorite. The place practice safe COVID guidelines and the server and food was outstanding for 4 star. We order the Egg Rolls which were hot and delicious. Next we order the Sweet and Sour Combination place which were shared. It was plenty of food for the two of us. Update: Came by again and ordered the Lazi Shrimp - it's not on the official menu, but it is absolutely delicious! It's quick fried with green and red peppers, cilantro, jalapeños, onion, celery, and little peanuts. It's my favorite dish by far, I would highly recommend it! The Thai rolls are delicious and a great way to start the meal. The service is always fabulous, you should definitely give it a try! Food was excellent and the service was very fast. Had the garlic chicken, it was served steaming hot with lots of vegetables and tasted delicious! Will definitely be back when in town for work, best place in Lamar for sure! read more

We put our order in by Internet it said it would be done at 5:22. We ordered it at eight minutes till five. I got there at 5:35 they told me five minutes. So I went back after five minutes they told me it's gonna be another five minutes. I told him to cancel it I'm very disappointed that they cannot handle doing takeout. Stopped in after reading other yelp reviews. Everyone gets a small starter salad that was crisp and refreshing. The iceberg lettuce was cold and crunchy. The dressing was not over done. My husband ordered the egg drop soup. He enjoyed the flavor and referred to it as the farmer hardy egg drop because there were peas and carrots and beans included in the soup. He ordered the Kung Pao chicken lunch special with fried rice. Excellent! Veggies were fresh and the heat was appropriate. I ordered the chow fun chicken plate. It was very tasty. I particularly liked the meat to noodle ratio. There were plenty of crunks of chicken with this dish. The chicken was tender and cooked to perfection. With that said, the portions are big so I wasn't able to finish my serving(and I am not a small eater). So if you are passing through Lamar I recommend you give this little gem a try. Restrooms are large and clean! Staff is friendly. Law enforcement was eating lunch at another table. Truck drivers and law enforcement know where to eat. The reason is they know which restaurants the health department is investigating and they respond to burglar alarms at businesses. So I am certain they have "searched" the back of the house for burglars and cleanliness. read more

But I still finished it cuz on a road trip the last thing u want to quit is eat :) . And staff made me feel like they are welcome me at all ,I know I have an Asian face but it doesn't mean I won't come to a Chinese restaurant. We were coming through Lamar and wanted to find something for supper. We saw this place and decided to give it a shot. We're so glad we did. This was simply the cleanest, neatest Chinese restaurant that we've seen in years. Beyond that, we both felt like the food was incredible. Very good beef broccoli in a yummy garlicky sauce. Jalapeño steak was much spicier than I expected, I normally order the spicy dishes and don't mind the heat but this was pretty intense. Very fast and friendly service. Only downside their menu was nowhere online (not local, just traveling through and would have gotten delivery to my hotel if I could check out a menu first), so anyway I took a picture for all you yelpers.
