    Chicken Adobo
    Linda L.

Came for lunch before driving back after a long weekend in Catskill. So happy we did! Since the restaurant only seats 22 people, reservations recommended. This is a no frills family owned Filipino restaurant. Loved: Lumpia sampler (wished the veggie one wasn't so oily but everything was tasty.) Chicken adobo with garlic rice )chicken was falling off the bones and so delicious) Pork Sisig (mix of crispy skin pork, peppers, onions, and scallions were so flavorful) Halo Halo (An beautiful dessert to get for hot days. Shaved ice with Ube syrup, coconut ice cream, jelly, and red beans. Just wished their ice was more shaved.) The following dishes were too dry for my liking: Fish Sisig and a beef dish. Family friendly place except for the bathroom (small and therefore no room to have a baby changing table). Overall a gem for this area bringing authentic and rich flavors!

05/23/2025 at 7p - Party of 4 When in Highland or anywhere within the 60-mile radius, this place is a MUST! The restaurant seats about 22 people so it's probably best to call first and ask if they can reserve a table for your party. Mad props to our host/server, super friendly and great vibes overall! We ordered Hapag sampler (lumpia, veggie lumpia, tofu, longganisa, lechon kawali), sizzling bangus & pork sisig dinuguan, halo-halo and puto for dessert. Each entreé came with a scoop of rice which was plenty shared amongst 4 ppl. #iykyk

Food was amazing, cozy ambience and great service. Unfortunately they are changing things up and won't be open as a regular restaurant anymore. It was very disappointing but I believe they are open for catering, pop ups. etc.

Tosilog (Silog Series) marinated sweet pork, two eggs, garlic rice.

We walked in because of it being on the Resy app, and realized very quickly that the food quality is top notch. We had great service as the waitress was very sweet and answered questions about items on the menu we were unsure of. The ambiance resembles a dining room that you would find at home.

What a fantastic dining experience. Easy parking near the restaurant, very accessible to all. Aroma of the food when you into the doors is really great. We were seated promptly and greeted warmly. The menu is quite large with something for everyone. We got pork lumpia, bangsilog, and chicken adobo. Everything was delicious and freshly prepared. That atmosphere is really friendly and warm. Lots of Filipinos at dinner when we went. They all said the food was traditional and delicious. We were full and we weren't planning on dessert, but someone next to us got halo halo and it looked too good to pass up. Glad we gave it a try. Overall, excellent experience. Incredibly friendly and efficient staff. Nice clean restaurants with a very extensive menu. Definitely give it a try. Well worth it.

Awesome Filipino food and service! Finally got a chance to eat here, it's almost an hour drive but worth it. Lumpia was the best! Pork sisig was great, lots of onions and peppers, not the kind I'm used to but still good. And crispy pata was incredible! Haven't had that in years, oh how I've missed it. Eggplant and bokchoy gave a good balance to an otherwise rich, crispy, fatty pork dishes. Upgraded white rice to garlic fried rice and I couldn't get enough of it. I love the ambiance, it's homey and a very relaxing vibe. Can't wait to go back. Unfortunately they were out of chicken bbq.. oh well, next time.

Bok choy and eggplant, garlic rice, and lechon kawali (deep fried pork belly- yes, deep fried pork belly) - about 1/3 of an order.

I was attending a photography workshop in the area. I researched restaurants in the vicinity, because, why not? When I saw a Filipino restaurant listed, there was no question I was headed there. Hapag Bistro is a small restaurant (about 8 tables) located in the hamlet of Highland. When I walked in, I was greeted by a very friendly hostess/server, Claudine. It was about 2PM, after the lunch rush, and I was the only customer in the place. It gave me some time to review the menu and strike up a conversation. Lumpia (Filipino egg roll) - must have. Lechon kawali (deep fried pork belly) - another must have but my doctor would certainly disagree. Bok choy and eggplant braised in a garlic sesame sauce. Turon - ripened plantain, jackfruit, wrapped in an egg roll wrapper, deep fried. I might have been going for the all brown line up today. The food was either deep fried or braised in sesame oil and/or soy sauce. They might not have been lookers but they stole my heart...through my stomach. I had a little bit of a conversation with the server before other customers came. I guess she could sense that I'm also Filipino (Asian radar is a thing). My cousins have called me Amboy, American Boy, because I've taken on the culture of this country in place of my original one; I'm a person between cultures. Anyway, the waitress described their food as more traditional than other Filipino restaurants. I couldn't agree more. The way their lumpias are wrapped and folded, the addition of a specific type of chili (Siling labuyo) in their sawsawan (vinegar dipping sauce), the girth of the turon "lumpia", are all hallmarks of what I remember eating at home. Don't take my word for it, other customers seemed to agree. There were a few take out orders but there were 2 families that stayed in to dine while I was there. Both were Filipino. If Filipinos are frequenting your Filipino restaurant, you're doing it right. Come and taste a part of my culture. Kain na.

So glad to have found this place! Very clean and calming interior. Street parking but it's not too bad. Location wise it's in a cute, peaceful area. The service was really friendly, we felt at home. The lechon kawali was extra crispy!

You must check this place out! First, the service is out of this world. Staff is friendly and food comes fast. The pork sisig was hot and crispy and just so good. We also had calamari with rice and it was just so tasty. I love that we have a Filipino place in town!

I've only been to this retaursnt twice because a friend had a family member work there. and i fell in love with it. the pork sisog was the best thing i've had in my life and i definitely recommend it. I can vividly remember me and my friend crushing our food watching a soccer game in the car. It is family run so the service is very friendly and had me doing karaoke with her. Ambiance is very nice and casual feels like i'm at a friends dining room. definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants classic philippine food.

Amazing Filipino food! I'm not a local and I would totally drive up here to get authentic, flavorful Filipino food! We came here as a big group so we had the opportunity to try all different types of dishes and they were ALL delicious and full of flavor! We ordered the chicken adobo and pork adobo, lechon, pancit canton, palabok, chicken BBQ, tocino, garlic fried rice, and mango float. The owner, Cecilia, is super friendly and accommodating as she's able to answer any questions we had and helped us pre-order the food even before we got to the restaurant. Hapag has such an inviting ambiance and the decor reminds me of being at home in the Philippines. I loved the simple touches like the tropical-like napkins. I live in NYC where there are a lot of Filipino restaurants and I can say this is definitely one of the best I've had! Come up to Highland and you will surely want to come back!

I recently stopped by Karenderya in Nyack looking for some good Asian comfort food, and it definitely hit the spot. Known for delicious, made-from-scratch dishes, they were flavorful, fresh, and clearly cooked with care. The menu offers a wonderful introduction to Filipino cuisine, with hearty, satisfying dishes that feel comforting, taste scrumptious, and speaking for myself - as I rarely go to Filipino eateries due to my location, unique. The cashier/waitress was attentive, friendly, and helpful throughout my visit. While the atmosphere is fairly simple and not really the reason to come here, the focus is clearly on the food, and that's where Karenderya shines. This is an excellent option for takeout, and many of the dishes would be perfect to bring to a potluck or family gathering. Despite Nyack's often challenging parking situation, I found parking easy enough nearby, which was a pleasant surprise. Service can be slow when crowded, be forwarned. If you're looking for authentic, delicious Filipino-inspired food and don't need a fancy dining room, Karenderya is absolutely worth a visit.

So a thing I've thought about the place itself is that this is one of those places I walked by more times than I can count, but I have never actually set foot in here. Honestly, when I was in my 20's I always thought this place was like one or two steps at most from being evicted from business, partly because it was always closed whenever I would pass by it. But I have wanted to try this place for years, and I didn't mind that how I did it was by ordering on UberEats. So that was exactly what I did today. Thankfully, I had a promo on UberEats I was using where I could get a certain percentage off if I'd spent $25, and paired with my UberOne membership, I saved $11.27 on this order, roughly a quarter of what it would have cost me otherwise. I went with the Pork BBQ Meal Special, the Halo-Halo, and then the Turon was a closing thought that I ended up including in my order. So by the time I got to try the Halo-Halo it had already partly melted, so I had to treat it as half a dessert and half a drink. It is still easily one of the most interesting and curious thing I've eaten yet. It's like an ice cream parfait with some ube, a mochi cakelike thing next to that ube, and you can see all sorts of nuts and berries on the bottom. It's a fun and dare I say delicious treat, and I would have liked to have that fresh one day. Next, let's talk about the Turons. Honestly, these were also interesting and curious things to eat. Think a deep-fried banana with a honey glaze on top and that's what you get. It's a nice combination of crispy, tart, and sweet. The tartness does remind me of the plantain used to make the canoa appetizers at nearby Costa Vino, but it works much better on these Turons. The sweetness helps keep the acidity from being overpowering here, and the crunch and honey compliment each other as well. Finally, let's get to the main course here. What this is is a pork kebab on a skewer, served with rice, two slices of cucumber, half a slice of tomato, and a vinegary liquid that I can't quite put my finger on what it could be. The pork itself is juicy and flavorful, and the barbecue sauce is coated in a perfect ratio that nothing overpowers the other. Both get their chance to shine here. The rice was good, and while I probably could have done without the tomato, I did appreciate the cucumber. The liquid I think could be used as an accompaniment to other dishes too, but I wouldn't eat it on its own. Overall, I'm glad I did this. Just from the Halo-Halo and Turons alone, I had already begun to feel my newfound appreciation on Filipino food rise up. And after my second time having ube, I think I gotta see more ube things in my life.

KAF is a small Filipino Market, that serves a number of prepared Filipino foods cafeteria style, and they also have a kitchen for preparing some additional menu items. I hadn't visited since before the Pandemic, but I felt KAF's lumpia calling me this week. I arrived around 5:30 and I was the only customer at that time. The cafe part of the business is in the back. There are a few tables for dining in. The atmosphere is decent, but not a selling point since the Market's merchandise is in view. Service is a hybrid model. I've always ordered at the cash register. For food that's ready, they just plate it and bring it to you. If you order from the menu, they prepare it and bring it to you. However, it's not the type of place where they bring you a glass of water and occasionally refill it. It's more like you're eating at Chipotle, except they bring your food to you. I ordered lumpia and Menudo. If you haven't had lumpia, they look similar to fried spring rolls. KAF's are filled with what seems like a cooked pork and veggie mixture that is mostly meat. It's crispy and tasty. KAF's Menudo is a stew of pork chunks, liver, potatoes, carrots, peas, etc. It tastes like a dish you might get at a Filipino friend's house. The meat and veggies were tender and the sauce was mild and savory. When I score a place like Kayumangi, I don't compare it to sit down restaurants. I compare it to other small food markets that happen to serve food. Another thing in Kayumangi's favor is that I'm not aware of other Filipino options in the nearby areas. With those caveats, I give Kayumangi 4 Stars and I will return when the mood strikes me.
