I come to Miami Beach a few times a year, and I always go to Greenmonkey Yoga. I love how welcoming everyone is there. The front desk folks are super friendly, and the class schedule is terrific--something for everyone. I've tried an array of classes: Power Yoga, Slow Flow Restorative, Slow Flow, and Yoga Basics. Every teacher is wonderful and each has their own style, so everyone should find something they like. A special shout out to Meka who teaches the Yoga Basics. I convinced a friend who had never taken a yoga class before to try it. Meka is so warm and helpful, giving lots of modifications for those who need it while also providing a good workout for more experienced yogis. Meka is great at helping you really master a pose with small adjustments and suggestions. Both my friend and I really enjoyed her class, and I'm sorry I don't live here to take it every week. In short, Greenmonkey has something for everyone. A tough workout for those who want it, a gentler stretch for those who need it, and great instruction for everyone. read more

I loved the yoga class I took at Hanu, which is referredto as rocket vinyasa. It is a true all-levels class. You are free to challenge your balance and strength to focus on stillness and flexibility. Whatever you need, Martin is their to support your practice. read more

This studio is a breath of fresh air. I love the range of classes offered - they have infrared heated classes & gentle yin or mobility classes offered, and often offer specialized classes from visiting yoga teachers. Very friendly check in experiences from staff. I have been coming to this studio for over 8 months through Classpass and make it a point to choose their classes despite ones closer to me. read more

Supports using cats as marketing and money scheme. If you're going to do cat yoga you should be incorporating rescued cats as south beach already has a huge population of cats that need to be adopted from the shelter. Would be a more enjoyable yoga experience if they weren't looking for a cash grab. How am i supposed to enjoy cats and yoga if they're profiting off animals? read more

The best classes in Miami! I love Maria Elena's class for power hot Pilates and hatha. She's the best. The hot pilates class is an amazing hard class that really works all parts of your body. Really recommend going to her classes! read more

I attended a Yin class hoping for Yin, but unfortunately, it was a vinyasa class. Everyone in the class probably knew this, but I didn't. As a Yin yogi, I sign-up for Yin classes expecting Yin. Yin is slow, cooler, and more meditative. People who practice Yin seek Yin. It's a stark difference from Vinyasa. Stillness and holding poses for a few minutes was not happening here. Thankfully I was virtual, so I stuck with it to see if it could shift directions, but it didn't. Lots of planks, chaturanga and fast sequencing. Had I been in-person I would have been pretty stressed. Again, you run the risk of being at the mercy of the yoga teacher during any class you sign up for, ever. The instructor was very knowledgeable and the space looked amazing. But just a heads up for my fellow Yin yogis. read more

Amazing studio! Every Tuesday they have classes all day at the 1111 Lincoln Rd Garage which is a must go!! Every other day they offer outdoor power flows, slow flows and vinyasa on their terrace. No mask required since it's outdoors and you are socially distanced. All the teachers have their own funk, music and teaching styles which is one thing I really appreciate about green monkey. This is by far the best yoga studio in Miami. Take Paulas class for a treat! read more

Bought a 10 pack package that they told me was for a year when I paid for it. Looked a few days ago and in the platform it said it was for six months. Emailed them to extend and they said they could only extend for two weeks because of "policy" then stopped responding completely when I told them they had told me a year when I signed up. Bad business practices and the quality of their classes seems to have gone down a bit since they moved. read more

What is better than running or yoga?? Running AND yoga!! This group is in the run club network here in MIA and opened not too long ago. This group runs every Tuesday @ 7pm. They run various routes around the golf course & Venetian causeway that are about 3.5 miles. The BEST thing about this running group is that they offer a FREE 30 minute yoga session to help stretch you out after the run. They are generous enough to provide water post-run, like the other clubs. This group is a little smaller than the one that meets in Brickell & Mr R's on Lincoln. The pace groups are a little quicker/more narrow than SoBe run club 10+/mi, 8-10/mi, and sub 8s. Everyone is nice & it's a good group. Come run with us, it's fun! read more

I usually like this place, but... I flew in late last night and got up very early for my 7:30am class hoping to start my time in Miami on the right foot. No teacher showed up and no staff! The doors were locked. The class was not cancelled on line and 4 of us showed up. All four of us waited 15 minutes outside before we left. Pretty inconsiderate to just no show us with out any explanation!!!! read more

Loved the energy and vibe of the space when I went to take the Slow Flow Restorative and the sound bowl meditation classes on Thursday. Ashley was great and had me laughing with her fun and playful attitude when teaching class. Liz's 12pm Friday Power Flow was fantastic and just what my body needed after a monthlong hiatus. Derek's Saturday 9am Power Flow was the bomb! I definitely sweated out all the toxins from the week and left puddles which I almost slipped on after class. The receptionists are very helpful and friendly and there to greet you with a smile and assist you with anything you may need before class. Clean, beautiful studios and indoor/outdoor space to hang out before class. Quaint and charming restaurants and shops in the area. Street and garage parking available with Lincoln Rd. You know, when I started practicing at GM, a few of my yoga teacher friends in the area warned me about them, but I chose to go anyway and form my own opinions. I should have listened to my friends. I have a chronic injury that was exacerbated by practicing, so unfortunately, I'm off the mat again indefinitely. When I called to see if I could get part of my membership refunded (I still have 2 months left), I was given the runaround (had to call 3 different people to get an answer at all), and then when I finally did get an answer from Jessica (apparently she's a manager and a teacher), it was delivered in a nasty defensive tone. The problems I mentioned w/ the lack of adjustments there still stands, and when I see beginner-practitioners still in an unsafe version of a pose, there's obviously a problem w/ the verbal instruction too (I'm not saying that this happens in every class w/ every teacher, because there ARE teachers there that I adore, but it happens too often to not notice). Also, teachers do NOT enforce the no cell-phone rule. I'm sorry, it's NOT yoga if you're texting during class--be present! And if you're a manager/teacher (Jessica mentioned above), you should be setting an example while you're a student in class, not being one of the people texting. Just saying. And to those of you who want to say that I should be more present on my own mat in my own practice? You're probably right. But as a yoga teacher for 6+ years, I can't unsee the people around me suffering on their mats and setting themselves up for chronic conditions. And I can't unsee the girl texting on the mat next to me, when the no-cell-phone sign is clearly posted. read more

I usually like to give a place more than one go, but I'm making an exception for Green Monkey for the following: *One of the girls at the front desk was cold in her "welcome". She did not make any eye contact, nor give a hello... or any kind of greeting actually. I finally got her attention; which shouldn't have been that hard to do with me being literally right in front of her. I told her I signed up for the 6:15 class. I guess she had checked me in, but did not acknowledge this and continued to fold towels and talk to her coworker. After a couple minutes, I had to say, "Excuse me, am I all set? And in which room is the 615 class?" She started giggling and pointed to the room where the class was being held. *The instructor for the "hip-hop flow" was not the listed instructor on their site. That's fine. I don't know who these instructors are anyway. What's NOT fine is that the instructor who was asked to teach the class was not at all into hip hop. She "never" listens to it. In turn, the music was not hip hop at all. It was Will Smith and Shaggy. *When there was a song that had profanity in it, the instructor made a few comments about how it's hard to find songs in this genre without profanity. She stated "You really have to search for it." I didn't need to hear the teacher's slightly bigoted comments. Also, why teach a class with a theme you don't like? *Regarding the flow itself, it was okay. Nothing to write home about. *The teacher made adjustments sparingly and as if she was uncomfortable touching sweaty bodies. Before this class, I heard that Green Monkey was more of a "scene" than a studio, a place to be seen rather than a place to seriously grow your practice. Unfortunately, I've experienced this characterization to be true. For $25 a class, I won't be back. read more

:::4.5 Stars::: 4.5: Ambiance 4.5: Teachers 4: Cleanliness 5: Parking (weekday/weekend/street) 4: Value One of the peaks of this trip (amongst the peaks and valleys) was attending yoga classes at Green Monkey, Miami Beach. This studio was recommended to me by a fellow yoga teacher and I am forever grateful for the direction! One perk about venturing into new studios across the country and veering away from the norm back home is the challenge that comes from experiencing new and different styles, paces, class routines and trends. Miami Beach yoga kicked my yoga booty! I attended three classes--- ~Amy Rabin's Power Yoga: She's amazing and hilarious! As I was drenched in sweat post class= amazing! ~ Paula Walker: She's more of a serious and gentle yoga teacher with a lot of unique modifications to poses I've come to know in the Bay Area (and even the Southwest: AZ & TX). ~ Paul Toliuszis: Crazy class, but one of my favorites of the three. He leads the teacher training programs at Green Monkey as well as his regular classes. He's got charisma, knowledge, experience, intelligence and sure as heck knows how to make a classroom meant for 20 yogis and converted to at least 50 yogis work with grace and style. Mats were pressed inch to inch while the temperature of the room was humid and hot and I still had a blast. Besides the post yoga class sweat puddles, this place was on the cleaner side each time I came in. They have a cute boutique that sells and rents mats ($5/mat) and towels along with stylish clothes and mosaic Ganesha statues. There are water fountains to fill your bottles or just sip... And lots of cubbies and storage space to plop your things when you are taking a class. All three classes I attended had music and Amy's in particular had the coolest playlist by far (if only I had SoundHound permanently implanted in my head!?!). Trip hop-- chill flowing, and moving music along with some lyrics and reggae/like sounds as well.. (my fav)! I am a big fan of Green Monkey Yoga (at least this particular location...). My recommendation to you is make sure you have layers on (ready to peel off if you get hot super easy) and bring a towel (or two) 'cause you're gonna sweat!!! Namaste Y'all! read more

This studio is super if you like a hot, athletic vinyasa practice, which i happen to love. The studio is adorable, the purdy ace neighborhood is fab, the only place in south beach where I like to go, and it's going to keep getting better as they add new restaurants and businesses. But back to green monkey....I do love this place but you will need to try out all the different teachers as no two classes are alike even when it's the same class. Everything depends on the teacher and some are just tops. They inspire with the yoga ability, teaching skill and how for they look. Others, I'm not really sure why they're doing there, some are just silly to me, disrespecting what I think yoga is about, a mind body connection and a place to fire up the body and quiet the mind Some instructors babble incessantly with stupid jokes, some chit chat and get too giggly making personal jokes with their friends in class and some allow people to actually answer their cell phone in class. When I am unfortunate to get one of these instructors I feel like walking out and I make a note to never take their class again Fortunately there are a ton of super fab teachers. Also be warned it gets very hot in summer, no air and crowded classes. Parking is not great, there is always construction and road closures. But you will leave feeling refreshed and satisfied. They also have the best yoga clothes for sale there. read more

I've actually not set foot in the studio yet but I must say the free yoga that they are offering is superb! I have never enjoyed yoga so much. You can go every Monday and Wednesday to collins park right in front of the Bass museum at 6 pm. The instructors are really good and there is something about doing a yoga class outdoors with the sounds of nature surrounding you and also having to tune out the occasional ruckus at the park but it's usually very quiet. I keep coming back for more! read more

Ah I love Green Monkey! I am so glad I went and took the Power Yoga. The studio is very clean and has an awesome vibe. The Power Yoga class was amazing! The flow of the moves was great and I got an awesome workout. I would definitely be back. We are all monkeys! This cute yoga studio is just the place to get back into it. The monkey philosophy is a great way to take some of the pretension out of yoga and remind you that it's supposed to be fun. Don't we all wish we could swing from tall branches and scratch our bellies while making funny sounds? At the Green Monkey, your dreams can become reality. While the spot maintains a light and fun atmosphere, complete with little shop of yoga accessories and a little refrigerator of homemade raw cookie treats and bottled water, the teachers here are all business. I haven't been to a profesh yoga studio in a couple of years, but recently have gotten back into it, thanks to some Crunch workout vids i found on Netflix streaming. I'd been practicing in the comfort of my own home for a couple weeks when I saw the Groupon for 5 sessions at the Green Monkey. Just the catalyst I needed. Saturday morning came around, I managed to wake up in time for the 10:30am Yoga Flow class with Mark. I showed up about 15 min early, filled out a form, and poked around the shop. The class started on time, there were only 5 of us in the smaller studio (I think they have two, I didn't see any others) which was really nice for my first time back. Mark was great- he asked me questions about my level of experience and told me that if it gets too difficult, just rest on all fours until I can get back to it. He said don't push it too hard, he wants me to want to come back. Oh boy. I thought I was in for it. The other students really knew what they were doing, I was certainly the most junior yogi in the room, but I didn't feel too out of my league. I did rest a few times, my balance isn't quite where I'd like yet, but managed to do almost everything. The room was warm, not like "hot" yoga, but just no air conditioning. But the effect was good enough. I was completely soaked through with sweat. Mark focuses a lot on the breath and ended the class with some philosophizing and Oms and facial stretches. I felt rejuvenated, fresh, clear-headed and ready to-- well, go grocery shopping. Because that is what I did. Try out the Green Monkey. I think you'll find a friendly place to make mistakes and grow stronger under the kind direction of seasoned yogis. read more

They place is reall nice, and super helpful. I stopped in to check it out and, hopefully come back to take a class. The person at the front desk asked me if I ad ever been in before. Even better then that the workout was amazing. I will be going back again !!!!!! read more

The stars aligned and I finally made it to Green Monkey Run Club! I've been meaning to go for a while to compare this club to the Thursday night group that starts at Mr.R's. I've heard it is smaller, but it's clearly becoming more popular as there were around 100 people there tonight. The course was wonderful; we ran through the neighborhoods in the Sunset Islands and a little bit on the Venetian Causeway. Personally not my best run as I got bird bombed and acquired a blister on my ankle. They weren't expecting so many people to show up, so they didn't have enough bottles of water for everyone. Also, I peeked into the studio to survey the free, post-run yoga, but the room looked full so I decided to skip it. (I consider it more motivation to run faster so I can get back sooner and grab a mat and some floorspace.) We were also treated to sample wheatgrass shots that were being distributed by a guy from w organics. I've always been hesitant about the green stuff, but it was mixed with apple juice and tasted de-lish! Definitely going to try to add this to my weekly workout schedule! read more

I started practicing yoga seriously back in Sept 2010 when Green Monkey had their "Mat Crawl Challenge". I took 30 classes in 30 days with 30 different instructors and I was awarded an entire FREE YEAR MEMBERSHIP. And I wasn't the only one... over 50 "Monkeys" received this amazing gift and since that month of intense yoga immersion, I've been totally hooked. I now practice at least 4 to 5 times per week. One of the best things about Green Monkey is the diverse selection of instructors and teaching styles. There's always a class to take whether you want an intense Power Yoga class, an invigorating Yoga Flow, some chanting in a Jivamukti class, heal your body in Restorative Yoga, I could go on and on.... They have great workshops on the weekends and they'll even have DJs spinning in class during WMC. Some of my favorite teachers are Amy, Jaya, Courtney, Mateo, & Jannee! NAMASTE read more

I go to Power Yoga classes at Green Monkey twice a week and don't have much to say besides that I love practicing here!!! The studio is very modern, clean and has a very positive, fun ambiance. I regularly go to Amy Rabin's class on Monday and Wednesday nights at 7pm- she always has the best music playlists, is very helpful to beginners and is just an awesome teacher. During the mat crawl I ventured out and practiced with other teachers and all of them were all excellent as well. If you're thinking of getting into yoga I definitely recommend starting your practice at Green Monkey. GREAT studio--offers a comprehensive roster of classes, with several time options. Class times are especially helpful for those that have a 9-5, as they offer many options after 6pm, on weekends, and such. There are a TON of great teachers at this studio. The space is perfect: clean and simple with two room options to accommodate more classes. They also have a fun boutique area when you first walk in that offers great yoga apparel and accessories.. a lot of green monkey inspired apparel too. my personal fav :) Note to all: **make sure you bring bug spray** I leave class every time with NO LESS than 10 mosquito bites... a small price to pay for playing in the monkey jungle! read more

I took the yoga flow class with Daniella today. It was a great workout and she fit in a good amount into an hour. The studio closes when there is no class going on, so I had to wait outside for a while before the receptionist came. I thought that was a bit weird, but not a big problem. read more

Certainly tiring and invigorating, after a yoga class at Green Monkey, you will definitely feel a grand sense of accomplishment. The instructors are incredible, practical, and witty. The class is overall enjoyable. I have taken a few classes there, courtesy of a Groupon offer as I must admit, the classes are a bit pricey, and have always enjoyed the hours I spent there. Such an amazing class! Paula is so fun and funny during class and it keeps you going it's the best class I've been to in a long time!

I was really, really rooting for this place as I recently moved to Miami Beach. Given the raves here on Yelp, and that GM seems to be a pretty popular yoga joint in the young, hipster, adorable neighborhood of Purdy Avenue, I was hoping it might be my go-to yoga headquarters. This place is truly a mixed bag, not just in terms of the classes and styles they offer, but the type of class you *think* you are going to may not necessarily be what you signed up for at all. I jumped the gun and bought a 5 class package. I have taken 3 different ones so far and here is my experience: 1) Yoga for Alignment: This class was the most true to its listed description. I wanted something easy-going with deep stretching. However, the instructor who developed this class and was supposed to teach was out of town so there was a substitute. Not a big deal, but the sub seemed to struggle to remember some of the sequences at times. Overall, an okay class. 2) Vinyasa Flow (levels 1-3): This class took place on a Saturday morning, the time frame sandwiched between two advanced level Power Yoga classes. I specifically chose this class because I did not want hot yoga or a very advanced class, and wanted something more appropriate to my intermediate level. Though I have been practicing various types of yoga (including vinyasa flow and "athletic" forms of yoga) for 13 years and I am a former teacher, I hadn't practiced in over a year due to an injury. When I arrived and the prior class let out, I noticed the instructor was going to be the same one for my class, another substitute. So I asked her, "This is the Vinyasa Flow class I'm going into, right?" She responded, "Well, sort of. It's going to be kind of a mix. Just go at your own pace..." Well, it was immediately apparent that she took this class into a hot, power yoga vinyasa sequence with advanced asanas. Though it was tough and I struggled to keep up, I stuck with it. But in the end I wasn't happy with the whole switcheroo, as it felt. She was also not very hands on when it came to adjustments. But there was a systematic flow with orderly sets of asanas. 3) Vinyasa Flow (level 1-2): Okay, let's try this again. Just to note, between taking these 3 classes, I have been practicing Ashtanga (my favorite) at the Miami Life Center which have been GREAT. So by now I have built my strength up a bit and I thought a low-level Vinyasa class should be a nice, moderate flow. Wrong again!! First, this instructor was on her own planet. Period. Dangerously so. And to this point I must concur with reviewer Laura Jill S. when it comes to the instructors and their lack of adjustments for struggling beginners. Not only did she go into various hand stands, arm balances, and asanas that are clearly of a high-level experienced practitioner, every person in that class was no where near able to attempt most of the asanas and as they struggled I was literally cringing, distracted by the potential injuries. There were two women that appeared to be well into their 70's that were very flexible but awkwardly struggling to follow the instructor. She offered no assistance or adjustments, and "taught" more from a position of "look at me, do this!" There was little or no physiological explanations as to how to get into the asanas, or an offering of alternate poses since the class clearly was not that far along in their practice. The "flow" portion of "Vinyasa Flow" was missing and it seemed she was just making things up as she went along. There was a total disconnect between she and everyone else and was minimally engaged with us. It felt very much like she was doing her own thing and we were just there to try and imitate her. Several students kept getting up, leaving the room, or going to the bathroom, over and over! I have never felt such awkward energy in a yoga class before. It was tough to remain there for the full hour and 15 minutes. So unless there are a handful of really good instructors that are teaching true-to-description classes I just haven't come across yet, I have all but written this place off. I have 2 more classes here, but I will continue my Ashtanga practice at Miami Life Center. There you know exactly what you are getting, with very professional, hands on instructors that won't hesitate to adjust you and help you advance in your practice. In the meantime, I will keep an ear out to learn if there are better, more experienced *instructors* who actually engage with their students at GM...maybe I've just chosen the wrong ones. read more

I took Amy's class and wasn't a fan. I don't practice yoga to hear about her personal life, what she did on the weekend, and how cool it was to have a celeb take her class. Found it ironic that she mentioned someone walked out of her class a few weeks back because that's all I kept thinking about doing during her class. Also, in a class with 6 students it's pretty rude to only focus on helping out 2 students in particular throughout the class. I left extremely unhappy and haven't been back since. read more

POSITIVES Nice design, large studio is roomy NEGATIVES There is no AC in the studios. And rooms are not aired out enough between classes. Because classes are usually scheduled on top of ea other, you will enter the studio with the human smells and heat of the class before. Unless you want to take a restorative , gentle or beginner class, you will not be able to take any mid to advanced level without the temperature being warm to hot. Except for the slower or beginner classes, I agree with other reviewers that no adjustments or individual attention is given by teachers. Might as well just listen to a podcast. I also agree w other reviewers that management is unhelpful and unaccomodating. Takes effort to have any inquiries/concerns answered and like other reviewers, I am not a fan of Jessica and her, too bad so sad tough sh*t attitude. read more
