Came here to watch the Korea vs Mexico FIFA game. They had a special where you can get some wings + fries and 3 beers of your choice. It was good, but strange they didn't bother removing the caps so if we didn't have a bottle opener on our keys, we would have been SOL. It was packed obviously but they were able to find a place for us to sit. We ordered via button so that was good but the menu was on a Google Drive so my friend couldn't get it open for some reason. The wings were nice and hot, tasty but the sticky glaze was almost too sticky? Like it would stick to my teeth every time I took a bite. The fries were sad and not salted enough. I had to ask for pickled radish and Kimchi to eat with our chicken. Maybe they don't really offer banchan on the side? Then again, it was crazy busy for the game! The buldak noodles were something we added as an afterthought...we liked it but maybe not worth the $12 price. I really enjoy coming here for the fried chicken. So I got the whole yangneom fried chicken and the rice cakes with bugogi. The servers were really nice and quickly took our orders. For the fried chicken, it was the right amount of crispy and juicy. The sauce was nice and sweet and the chicken was very tender. I ended up having leftovers because a whole chicken is a lot. The bugogi and rice cakes were a nice addition to the fried chicken as well. The beef was tasty and the rice cakes were spicy and soft. Pretty sweet Korean pub spot to get your comfort fixings, wings and drinks with a group get together setting. I appreciate that the interior of seating set up does allow for a cozy intimate gathering for your group to be in their own bubble. When we stopped by Hanshin, they were still operating on the soft open menu so options were limited but the rice ball DIY and entrees we ordered were yum, and solid. Looking forward to the Korean pancakes and other treats for ordering once the menu is expanded. Service was friendly, swift and food came out hot and ready. Overall: 3.4/5 [dine in] Came with a group of 6. The seating is a bit cramped but manageable. To get the staff's attention when you're ready to order or need something, you press a call button on the back wall. We were never checked on, so we relied on the button throughout the meal. The table was also not set correctly when we arrived as we were missing bowls and plates. The napkin holder was also super dusty, and some of the bowls and plates had dust on them too, so we ended up wiping everything down ourselves. We also found it a bit odd that anywhere from 1 to 4 staff members would come to the table whenever we needed something, including to watch us pay. Why do you need four people for that? Hanshin is coming up on 2 months of being open but still has a lot of "coming soon" menu items. If they can address these issues, I would give it another star. The food was better than the service. We got 4 bowls of rice to share across the table ($7.80 total at $1.95 per bowl), which was really only necessary for the proteins. LA Galbi ($28.95): Good but nothing special. 10 Piece Garlic Soy Chicken Wings ($19.95): Came with a side of crinkle fries that were crispy but not salted enough. The wings on the other hand were delicious, fresh, and flavorful. Grilled Soy and Butter Squid ($16.95): I don't even like squid, but this was amazing! Our friends loved it too, and it quickly became one of the table's favorites. Carbonara Tteokbokki ($17.95): Not as heavy or creamy as I expected. It was actually on the liquidy side and lacked that umami depth. Cheese Pork BBQ ($24.95): The best item at the table for me, with the squid being a close second. They're still in their soft opening stages so I want to give them a chance. Service was good, and I love how reminiscent of pochas you'd see in Korea Hanshin Pocha is. All of the tables are separated by clear curtain dividers, so it feels very intimate! My friends and I ordered a somaek tower, corn cheese, and spicy LA galbi platter. The spicy galbi was way too spicy for all of us, but I could tell the flavor was good. I just wish I was able to eat spicy food better. The corn cheese had way too much cheese in it; the corn was literally drowning in the cheese. However, it ended up being a positive thing because the cheese helped cool off our mouths from the spicy galbi. I know Hanshin Pocha has a really good reputation and is really well known, so I'm glad this place is adding to the pocha scene in Austin! read more

I had such a great experience at this Korean spot! My absolute favorite was the pork bulgogi with cheese--easily one of the best spicy pork dishes I've had in Austin. The cheese pull not only looked amazing but really added an extra layer of flavor and richness to the dish. The wings were also a standout, packed with a deep, savory umami flavor that made them super satisfying. I tried the carbonara tteokbokki as well... but it was a bit disappointing. I personally wish the sauce had been a bit thicker since it leaned slightly watery. The octopus dish was another solid choice, and it paired perfectly with some soju. I also really loved the ambiance. Each booth is nicely separated, and the closed curtains make it feel like you're in your own cozy little bubble, which adds such a unique and intimate vibe to the dining experience. I think service could've been better as we weren't checked on as often. There is a button you can push to call but we would've appreciated more attentiveness. We really enjoyed our experience here! I came in with a table of 7 so we had to all sit in one of the tents. I do wish there was a little more space to accommodate for larger groups since we were planning to drink and eat a bunch. The service was good, the call button was helpful to call over the waiter in the busy restaurant and they came promptly. For the food, I loved every single thing we got. It was fresh, it was hot and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. A lot of the items on the menu wasn't available due to their soft opening but we look forward to coming back to try more items (especially the raw marinated crabs) read more

I'm a huge fan of places that have a warm an vibrant atmosphere. I also really enjoy Korean food. This place didn't miss. It took a little while for someone to take our order, but once that was all sorted the service was superb, even helping us determine the best bang for our buck with drinks which is always appreciated. The chicken feet are extremely spicy. So if that's something you enjoy, highly recommend. Also go for the whole chicken and the soup, it was amazing. What a fun concept! It's like you're transported to Korea! We were able to walk in and easily grab a table/tent, and the servers were all great. The food... DEElicious! I received my tteokbokki with multiple black marks on the rice cakes that were concerning in appearance. Based on how they looked, I was unable to determine whether they were the result of burning during cooking or potential mold, so I requested clarification before consuming the food. I asked to speak with the manager, but was told there was no manager on duty. I then requested that the kitchen verify how the dish had been prepared or have the chef confirm the cause of the black marks. That request was also denied, as I was told the chef could not speak with me. What is most disappointing is not only the condition of the food but the complete lack of transparency and accountability in addressing a legitimate food safety concern. When a customer raises a question about the safety of a meal, there should be a clear explanation and an appropriate response. Instead, my concerns were dismissed without any effort to investigate or provide reassurance. The wings were insanely small. $20 for like 10 fries and small wings. The service was not good either, I understand they may be new, but my food was missed and they forgot my drink twice. Cute rooms to hang with friends but the room closest to the door get blasted my pressurized wind whenever the door opens, flying everything around. SOFT OPENING REVIEW!! As with any soft opening this review should be taken with a grain of salt since they will continue to refine their service. Being Korean American, my standards are quite high for a poocha like this, thus keep this in mind when viewing my rating. I definitely miss my favorite Korean bar (Seoulju), but this place will definitely be a good go to spot! Featuring Korean style tents to give you a k-drama experience, with the biggest feature being you can have your own private room dining experience. Service was impressive!! In fact too much so. Staff checked in on us too often and in one case we had 5 servers visit us within two minutes, which is likely due to the soft opening and being close to the kitchen. Soju - good selection and they had one of my go to's Jinro is Back blue label. Typical Austin prices for soju (overpriced). Octopus in soy sauce and butter - this dish was both good and bad. Octopus was perfectly cooked, however the butter was burnt. After we paid the bill they finally asked us if there was any issues, of which I asked if the butter was supposed to be brown or burnt, they assured me it was supposed to be brown butter. Korean Fried Chicken in sweet and spicy sauce - Good portion size and loved the addition of dak (rice cake). The dak was perfectly cooked, chewy, and the sauce was perfect for this. It's hard to keep chicken crispy when drenched in such a thick sauce. The sauce had a perfect spice level and came out fresh (we had to wait a bit to let it cool down). However if we were in Korea, this dish would be very different, as the chicken would be very crispy and the sauce would be light and not heavily sweet. Pro tip: get a combo, it's a great way to get food and drink! Final note: While we were too hungry to wait for service, I think they probably should have taken care of the issue with the octopus and invited us back to try it again. They did say they would tell the cooks not to burn the butter. The staff really needs to rely on the service buttons, which didn't have the familiar ding. Had they relied on it more, service would have likely been perfect, as such service was feast or famine. read more

A group of us decided to come over for dinner to hang at the newest addition to the strip mall hmart area. Wasn't expecting the zip up booth feel indoors, so space is a bit tight. And because they're still soft opening, expect long waits for your food and a half available menu. Servers were pretty busy so we didn't get checked up on much but there is a call button if you need something. Overall the good was very ok. The fried chicken wing options were decent - well sauced wings (spicy and sweet soy) but cold crinkle cut fries were bleh. Army stew is expensive for what it is (kimchi, spam, hot dogs and ramen). The garlic shrimp dish was well flavored but tiny (both super small shrimp and not much in there). After the first round, we also got some stir fried beef udon, which was very good and deeply savory. The potato pancake was basically a bacon latke - very flavorful with the porky fat but not crisp enough for my liking. Fish cake soup was good on a cold day. Portion sizes are small overall so you'll be ordering a lot. If you're here to drink as most are, expect your bill to rack up. All in all, it's for a certain crowd and that wasn't us and had better Korean [bar] food elsewhere for sure. Maybe they iron out their kinks after soft opening? read more

My husband and I occassionally go to Wicked Snow and we noticed Hanshin Pocha moving in next door. As you enter the place, you see all the tented tables and hear the various pitches and tones of conversations from each table and K Pop music in the air. I was in the mood for a light meal after a long day from work so we ordered the grilled soy & butter squid and the sweet & spicy boneless fried chicken along with rice and 1 bottle of Jinro (blue). The squid was cooked well but the sauce was a bit burnt. My husband noticed it first. There were tasting moments of the sauce being slightly sweet, slightly caramelized, and mostly burnt butter not the brown butter with soy experience I was hoping for. My husband and I provided feedback to the staff and they were very open to listen as well as to communicating it back to the kitchen. The fried chicken had the right amount of sauce that coated each piece of chicken. I was really surprised to see tteokbokki (the small tubular rice cakes) with the chicken. Bonus! Eat the tteokbokki while it is hot because it has a very soft and pillowy texture. Once they cool down, it becomes a chewy. Still tasty, enjoyable, but a different texture experience. Portion sizes of the dishes was enough as for Korean bar food. I believe majority of Koreans and Korean Americans know when to use the call button on the table. The service was a overly attentive (in a good way but got slightly annoying). After giving the order to the server, it seemed like we were greeted by a new staff on the minute interval. I think this lasted like 5-10 minutes and we probably met everyone working that night. It was quite entertaining. Btw, neither my husband nor I pressed the call button. The only time we did so was when we wanted to order the food and to pay for the bill. Overall, the quality and portion of the food and service was good. I honestly don't even know where to start. This was a really disappointing experience from beginning to end. We were already on the waitlist for quite a while before we even came in, so we expected things to run a bit more smoothly once we arrived. Instead, when we walked in, no one greeted us. Multiple servers walked past us without acknowledging us at all. We eventually got seated, but when we asked the waiter questions about the menu, he seemed very unsure of what was actually on it. The menu photos are extremely misleading. We ordered the galbi, and the portion was extremely small for the price. Most of the pieces barely had any meat on them. They were mostly bone. Definitely not worth nearly $30. When we received the stew, it did not come with a portable stove to keep it hot. They only brought the stove after we had already finished more than half of it. The worst part was the garlic soy chicken wings were RAW. My friend had already eaten some before realizing it was undercooked. That is a serious food safety issue and completely unacceptable. We asked to speak to the manager and had to go through three different servers before we were finally able to talk to him. At one point, he even sent a server in his place instead of coming himself. When they remade the chicken, it only came out with 5 pieces instead of the full 10 that we originally ordered. On top of that, they did not bring us basic items we needed to eat. No plates, no ladle for the soup, no bowls. We had to keep asking for essentials. Overall, very poor service, misleading portions, and serious food safety issues. I would not recommend. read more

A friend and I were looking for something to eat around midnight and we had seen that this place was pretty much the only thing open, having never tried it but being in the mood for Korean food we decided to take the opportunity to try something new. I'll go ahead and get the only disappointing thing we experienced out of the way and that was that online their hours said they closed at 2 AM, when we arrived at 11:30 PM they had let us know that due to the SOFT LAUNCH their hours weren't exactly right and they were actually going to close in 30 minutes. While this was borderline upsetting to hear, the manager (I think) was kind enough to let us look through the menu and place an order so long as it was something that would be easy to get out to us so we can enjoy our meal, talk about hospitality and good service! We were blown away that they were still offering us a place to enjoy some good warm food even with being so close to closing time! We placed 2 orders of the tteokbokki, they sat us down at our booth/tent and we were finally able to take in the atmosphere of the restaurant. For starters, I absolutely LOVE the tents, it makes dinner feel more intimate, as if you were eating in your own home, not having to worry about others staring at you while you dine or eavesdropping into your conversation, just you and your loved ones enjoying the experience and food. On that same note, some of the booths/tents are a tight squeeze so you might have to prepare yourself for that, but for a table of 2 it was nice and spacious enough. The food came out quick, the tteokbokki was delicious, a little spicier than I expected but nothing I couldn't handle, and even after all that the manager even let us stay until 12:30 AM (30 minutes after closing my) and told us to take our time and enjoy our meal! What a great guy he was! Overall, I'd say the atmosphere was awesome, the experience is unique and pleasant, the servers were hospitable and friendly (huge shoutout grace, we loved you!) and of course the tteokbokki was delicious. Waited almost 40 minutes for a table, seated and waited 10 minutes for someone to come to our table, then when we ordered we were told we could only order about 6 items off of their (normally large) menu. Very frustrating experience as we were waiting for so long and was not informed of the limited menu even ONCE. it was not posted anywhere in the restaurant, no one told us when we sat down or put our name on the list, and when we expressed frustration the waitress was extremely rude and completely ignored us. We ended up walking out and going to a different pocha (SOHA) instead. I always try to understand and want to give grace to new restaurants as they get on their feet but this is just bad service and rude in general. I wouldn't come here again. Rather spend your time and money trying somewhere else that will treat you like an actual person. read more
