I have had bone shards in my boneless chicken, long black hair in my pork chops, rock hard stale cake, items past their expiration dates, Hannaford quarts of whole milk not available and when employee was approached he became very aggressive and threatening, cashier slammed my items into my bags and refused to allow me to enter my phone number for rewards, 800# woman was useless, today I was charged a $10 delivery fee and a $6.14 tip on a delivery I never got! Chad Sawyer is yhe manager of this store and tries to assist but the store employees need training badly. read more

Most of them stuff there is pretty good; the only things I have to complain about are: 1. Their Taste of Inspiration sandwiches; for some reason, the Middletown location insists on putting lick cut red onion in the sandwiches, which ruins the taste. (The Pine bush location thankfully leave them out.) 2. The sushi. They used to have the best sushi in town; unfortunately, over the past few months, the quality and freshness has gone downhill. This store used to have two or three Japanese sushi chefs at any given time; now they just have one guy do all of it. I'm sure he's doing his best; but it's clear that there needs to be more than just him. To be fair it isn't the worst, (Adam's still has a firm grip on that dishonor) but now it's just...decent at best. At least the Pine Bush location has more chefs and a better selection. (Which is weird; considering Middletown is definitely more diverse than Pine Bush) Currently the best place to get sushi in Middletown is ShopRite. The MASSIVE catch is; you have to get it on Wednesdays and they have to be in a black container with some red and gold swirls. That guarantees the best freshness and quality in town. Anything served in a blue wave pattern container is either overpriced, ridiculously small pieces; or both! Middletown's Hannaford isn't as good as the black container sushi; but is definitely better than the blue container sushi. UPDATE: I just had the rainbow roll; and it was so stomach churningly vile that I felt physically sick after finishing it! read more

We came to this Hannafords to use their "To-Go" service. The parking lot is large so there is plenty of places to park and many spaces for the curbside pickup. Unfortunately they did not have the majority of items from our order (5 out of 7) lol and we did not ask for substitutions which is on us. At the last minute as we were waiting one of the items arrived lol so that was convenient. Nice location overall; we would go back. read more

In this pandemic they have been extremely careless at intervals since the beginning. As far back as Mark not wearing or not properly wearing masks by staff. As of yesterday I was informed by members of management directly that they are not enforcing the NYS Mandate for businesses. Also now with one closed entry/exit. All customers are forced to enter and exit past each other through one 6' opening. They should make it one way in and one way out which is much a safer practice. I'm addition to that now, they also have a table in the entry to promote job opportunities and which is also sometimes staffed by a front end manager which only forces people entering and exiting to push further toward each other to get in and out and causes some wait as there isn't always enough room in the entry doorway to pass through freely. My business has been taken to one of six competing businesses in town that does enforce the NYS Mandate read more

This is probably the best overall grocery store in Middletown. It's clean, well stocked, neat, and the associates are friendly and accommodating. I found things in stock here I haven't been able to find in my usual store for weeks/months. The only cons I see are that they're a tiny bit more expensive than other stores, and I find some of the perimeter departments lacking in comparison to other stores (i.e. Shop Rite's bakery has far more fresh baked items; Hannaford's bakery has many more pre-packaged items with less overall variety and again, the prices are a bit higher). Visiting this store made me remember how much I enjoyed shopping there when I lived on that side of town! I'll be back. read more

My go-to grocery store for everyday needs. It's always clean and usually well stocked. I love that they now have self checkout lines, which gives them a huge convenience advantage over other stores. The only small downside about that is those machines don't take coupons. Most of the employees are friendly, but more importantly quick and efficient. The only reason I knocked off a star is because their gluten free section is lacking in terms of amount of options and quality of brands offered compared to other stores. read more

Just left this store will never go back. I was on line behind two Caucasian gentlemen that were nicely greeted by the employee manning the express lane / courtesy counter ( Haha ) and they were both told to have a nice evening. I approached the register and had to greet her before she would even make eye contact. After my transaction I paused hoping she would wish me a good evening or anything for that matter. Very upsetting experience with the cashier Sandy. This was my first time to the store since I just moved into town and I was so excited about this store. I wasn't greeted with a hello or good afternoon. She was just quiet and looked down. I had to say hello first and I asked to sign up to the reward program. She told me I can go online and do it cause it's faster. It was very rude and I was very annoyed by my service. Especially since I'm spending my money in this store. The products are great! But I'm all about customer service, which Sandy lacked. I will try to go here one more time and avoid her just to see if there are better staff members. read more

5/3/2022 visit to process an even exchange for a grocery product. B & M baked beans had my receipt and was just exchanging for a different flavor. The individual KARL at the courtesy counter refused to process an even exchange and stated if I wanted to exchange the flor I would be required to pay an additional cost over what I initially paid. the size of the can was exact. I tried to reason with individual who was rude and stated because I had purchased the item on sale I was now required to pay the current price. I asked for the story policy and the manager. He stated that he was the grocery manager and no one else was available to discuss. I informed him that I'm 77 yrs old and had driven from Pennsylvania. He didn't care. I called and reported him to customer service. I also called 5/4/2022 and spoke with the actual assistant mgr who informed me that there was no such policy and found the situation very odd and didin't believe that this happened. I provided my receipt information to the toll free customer service department. I have to wonder was KARL going to pocket the extra monies that he wanted as there is no such transaction relative to what he insisted was the policy - which in fact, there is no such policy and BTW he's not a Grocery Manager. He lied - I guess it made him feel important - too bad Hannaford doesn't think the customer is important - it was made obvious by the actions of this individual. I will update this complaint if there is any positive resolve. Why give senior citizen a difficult time when there was no justification for his behavior. Shame on Hannaford. read more

I live in the city, and I am in Middletown fairly every weekend to visit my family here. When i go food shopping for them (and myself bc city prices are extreme) Hannaford is by far the best. There are plenty of other supermarkets in the area to choose from (which i do go to) and price is extremely important, but quality and the caliber of choices in those markets are not as good as Hannaford. Considering there seems to be no to low visibility of organic, gluten-free, and/or true fresh local produce (or at least that I am aware of) such as a Stew Leonard's, Whole Foods, Trader Joes, or to go coastal, Portland's New Seasons, Hannaford is the closest thing at providing FRESH produce... and worth the extra price if ask me (be particular). The BAKERY is VERY good, design and layout of the store is well-organized and sorted out; employees are respectful,polite, clean, well-dressed, groomed and laid back; lines are minimal and lanes open up if necessary; most of all, product/ food options are just better. I hope to see Hannaford expand their organic and natural products as the company grows. Most of all, I hope to see the residents support this business much more so more markets will start to bring in real fresh local and seasonal produce AND support local farms. THE POSITIVE: -This store's parking lot has an amazing view. Probably what keeps me coming back. -The employees are very nice for the most part, no complaints there. -Decent selection of organic/natural products. THE MEH: -Produce is ok, generally overpriced, though I used to shop exclusively at Whole Foods so Hannaford overpriced is actually saving me money. THE NEGATIVE: -Why does a manager need to be called over every time I purchase beer? I'm there at least twice a week and all the managers and cashiers know me. Am I going to suddenly pull a Benjamin Britton on these fools and get younger? I think not. It was charming the first twenty times but now it's getting old if only because it draws attention to the fact that I'm buying 24oz cans of High Life and not 6-packs of good beer (but it's because of the savings, $0.99 is ridiculous)! -Almost all of the canned goods have dents in them. What's up with that? -The can/bottle return things piss me off so much. If you sell a beer/soda at your store, then your store should be able to accept that can/bottle for a refund. Furthermore, what's the freaking difference? It's all glass and aluminum! These things drive me crazy. Damn You Hannafarm!* This is a complaint i have for ALL OF MIDDLETOWN/WALLKILL: -Be a decent human being and put your cart in the cart corale thing! I'll have to renege- this supermarket is overpriced. but not by that much more when you consider how fresh their produce is. Their produce is a bit below adam's fairacre farms but absolutely better than any of the other markets around. it is ALWAYS a wonderful experience here. NEVER crowded. great in case you accidentally fart in an aisle and then run. and the huge aisles make me want to put down a mat and start a superslide party. when i have kids, we're gonna have a pool party at hannaford's. oh yea, their prepared foods are amazing! Bakery - TERRIBLE change from the ROUND Multigrain Boule to the rectangular loaf that's FULL OF HOLES, and so SMALL, it's USELESS for sandwiches or anything!!!! I complained repeatedly to the nice people in the bakery. Now, I'll go elsewhere, probably Shoprite. I've been paying for a loaf of bread that's mostly full of holes! The price went up and the product changed for the worse. That's a terrible combination. Please go back to the original round multigrain boule,or buy your bread from Shoprite. I will be. Produce- I am also very unhappy with the price increase for bagged salad, from $2.99 to $3.29. A 30 cent increase for the exact same product, with no improvements?! Re-Design- We're paying for your store upgrades, but for the most part, Hannaford is just like all the other supermarkets now. In the original floor plan, there was so much room between the end of the registers and the wall. Now, there's a needless congestion of shopping carts trying to get out of the store, because you've made it totally impractical and way less user friendly. Finally a supermarket that has a wide variety of organic food. It's an ample sized supermarket with lots of different selections of food. Only reason why I didn't give it a 5 star is because I called for free range organic chicken and was advised that it's sold there (which it wasn't). People are nice, meats and fruits looked fresh. A lot of ripe fruit but that's okay I suppose it depends on when you come in. It is higher priced than regular super markets. read more

I stopped shopping here probably about 7 years ago because the grocery section was so overpriced and the groceries would go bad and just a day or so. Enter Red Berry Farms down the street. Everything there is so much better a third of the price and the vegetables are of so much better quality. You walk out of there with 3 full grocery bags of food for less than $20 and what you would get at Cantaford. They also carry a full line of Boar's Head deli meat which Cantaford doesn't. Anyway, I was just there the other day picking up an item that I can't find anywhere else except online which is the garlic dressing I love that's made right here in the Hudson Valley. And I noticed they had a renovation and downsized quite a bit. I noticed that their prices have not changed and that the size of the checkout stands looked more like the size of checkout stands at Target. With these bright red neon stands. Just a matter of time before they're out of business because they have lousy customer service and poor selection of groceries. The aisles are good with they're regular stuff that you can find at ShopRite. And I would rather shop at ShopRite because they give back to the veteran Community locally. Something that Cantaford does not do. Parking lot is at the top of the hill and is always windy. This would be my last preference in grocery stores. Except for getting my garlic dressing no reason to shop here. Used to be a beautiful, upscale store that was worth paying extra for but not anymore. read more

This is by far my favorite supermarket in the Scotchtown \ Walkill area. There are many to choose from, PriceChopper, Super Walmart, ShopRite, Aldi etc. Hannaford is the cleanest store, nice wide aisles, is never too busy and they have a great selection of local and import foods that you most likely won't find at the larger supermarkets. Their produce section is great, all of the fruit and veg is always fresh and never looks wilted. Their beer selection is pretty good too. The only reason I take a star off is because their deli is nothing to write home about. DW and I are big fans of Boars Head Deli meats, Hannafords sells your run of the mill Sara Lee meats as well as their home brand. They really don't even carry a "premium" line of deli meats. The seafood and butcher counters easily make up for the deficiency at the Deli. Besides the fact that it is the closest to my house, I'd chose Hannaford any day over the other grocers in town. read more

Ever since the remodel I just can't bring myself to shop here. It doesn't matter what time of the day that I go in, there is a line at the checkout and next to nobody is open. This is how Walmart operates and I guess now Hannaford does too. But Walmart is way cheaper, so guess that I will be going there. read more

Money order policies are very unprofessional and an inconvenience if you purchase a money order don't bother going back to see if you can downsize it because their policy is that you can buy it with your own hard-earned money but you cannot return it for a smaller amount which is what the issue was I think that's very unprofessional and not a good policy for business like Hannaford where I spend my hard-earned money doing my grocery shopping and everything else when it comes to that Supermarket I'll give them my daily support and this is what I get in return I think it's very unprofessional I would never ever purchase a money order from this company ever again it's better to just go to a post office or Bank..... read more

My favorite supermarket. CLEAN WIDE Aisles not blocked with floor displays. Very good bakery, great cakes and cup cakes! Good deli but wish they sold kinishes. Friendly polite staff, fast check out, they Pack your bags for you! Excellent beer selection. Good meat and butchers, very good seafood and local produce and products. read more

I used to be a big ShopRite customer for years and if I'm shopping just price, that's the place to be. I am a finicky shopper so I like Hannaford's. I like quality as much as a good price. I could shop at Hannafords with my eyes closed and not come home with anything bad. They have sales so when you want bargains that's the time to buy. The store brands are priced lower and even the store brand is good quality. When I shop there I can be in and out in no time because I don't have to spend time wondering whether what I am getting for the prtice is worth it. If you are not satisfied, they don't do the "Teaberry Shuffle" when you want to return something. The personnel there are just fantastic and make each customer feel like they are the one and only special customer. read more

I've lived in Middletown for almost (ten) 10 years, & I have watched employees come and go, along with a few managers too. Tonight 02/08/2015 will be a night I will talk about and never forget. I had an employee give me $114.71 on the store as a random act of kindness... Needless to say I've had a hard week, I've been Audited, found out I have an Infectious disease in my foot and will require a few toes to be cut off because I had a few doctors tell me it wasn't too bad just the month before, I had a nurse during a conversation tell me that a procedure that I was having done wasn't working because I didn't know what was supposed to be happening, Luckily, I was tested by another doctor who after wards said It must be working because there were positive results, but the nurse had me terminated because I told her I wasn't sure what was supposed to happen, and she said it must not be working.... So thing haven't been looking up, oh did I mention I have to find another apartment by the 15th and still haven't found one and will be sleeping in my car until I do...if I'm lucky only to lose them... Yes life moves forward and then for whatever reason this dear lady helped me out was like a gift from Heaven saying things will be okay and all is not lost... read more
