The sound system is 5 stars. All of the host encourage the performers. Every instrument, genre and style of music is welcome. If you are a new musician/performer and you're nervous about getting in front of a crowd don't be . The host will help you and the crowd will support you. This is the perfect place for beginner, intermediate, and professional musicians. I was scared at first for my fist open mic. I thought I bombed. The host gave me a chance to go back up. I was scared again but I took that chance and went back up and the crowd was so supportive. I've been going back every Monday since then. A true "local" hangout! Although we are fairly new to Tennessee let alone Murfreesboro, Hank's gives the vibe of "Cheers". For those that do not know Cheers it is an iconic TV show that takes place at a local bar! As the theme song goes " You wanna go where everybody knows your name" of course we didn't know the bartender let alone the customers. But they made us feel like one of the crew. It was karaoke night and it was a lot of fun and a lot of good singers too! Now that's all good and all but what about the food? Well, it came out fresh and I must say for a little "hole in the wall" it was delicious! We ordered the fried mushroom appetizer! OMG! So delicious! The dip was a great compliment to an already tasty appetizer! If you like mushrooms, I highly recommend it! I ordered the Hanks Honky Tonk Burger and my husband ordered the Mushroom and Swiss Burger. The fries were seasoned well, didn't need ketchup, for me at least. The burgers were cooked to perfection! Loved this spot- the drinks were spot on, food was delicious, live music was beautiful and service was friendly as can be. The patrons are kind and social, it's a small setting so we sat at the bar and had some Bee's Knees. My friend got hers with Tanqueray but I got mine with Jack Daniel's Tennessee Honey which I recommend. Our food came out quickly and I even saw a cook come out to ask another bar goer if he was satisfied with the way his chicken was prepared which was a nice touch. Our bartender Olivia also went above and beyond, and we felt so comfortable here. Visited Hank's Honky Tonk (former O'Possum's Pub) after seeing the ribbon cutting of their event space. Sat at the bar and the bartender got me a draft and the menu. Pretty much a bar food menu with a few "meal" items. The Happy Hour had the chicken bites appetizer $2 off so I gave them a shot with ranch and bourbon BBQ for dipping. I've gotta state these were excellent. The breading was light but had flavor and the chicken was extremely moist and tender. These were some of the best I've had in a long time. Sure, it's a honky tonk, but at lunch I can watch trivia, horse races, and the food channel....and there is no music. Everything was great until we saw a cockroach, then two more. Music was good. Small establishment with few locals.

We ordered fried mushrooms and the Honky Tonk burger they both were very good. Prices on the food is very reasonable. We tried 2 different drink specials Holy water and Scooby snack they were both very good and reasonably priced. Our server was right on it. Anything we may have needed she was there. Really like this place. It is a smaller bar like Tootsie's in Nashville but not nearly as crowded and has good food. Great place to go if you want to see the same old drunks sitting on their same old barstools. One of the bartenders is a real first-class jerk. He spends most of his time flapping his gums telling BS stories and only occasionally looks up to see if anyone might need another beer. All in all not a good place to go for a cold beer. read more

Tonight was our first night at Hanks and it didn't disappoint. Fried pickles, delicious. Chicken Tenderloin sandwich and seasoned fries, good stuff. Live music by 2 different artists were great. Definitely can't forget our amazing server Aubrey. The nicest we've had since arriving 4 years ago to the area. We ended up talking unknowingly to one of the owners and she was a sweetheart as well. It might have been me, but I was totally unimpressed. I'm trying to give them the benefit of the doubt, but, no. I don't think so. I was there for lunch on Sunday and the place was deserted. Only four patrons. On their behalf, I will say that this is a Honky Tonk and if you like country music, I bet you would have fun in the evening. With that in mind, here is my review on the food, service and some extenuating circumstances. They have a great mission statement on their menu but I do not think they live up to the "value" portion of it. To their credit, the taste of the hamburger was EXCELLENT. So much for the highlight reel. The server asked if I wanted "everything" on it. Evidently "everything" includes the bun, the burger and the cheese. There were no condiments on the burger, nor were any offered. No lettuce, onion, tomato...... nothing. The burger was a good size and they put it on a bun smaller than the meat. This was interesting. It did not give me the impression that I was getting a lot of meat for my money. It just looked like they used the wrong sized bun. There were a lot of interesting dishes on the menu, including the sides. I got the pork rinds. After ordering, I read over the menu and found that on the back, you could get them with Nashville Hot powder sprinkled on them. Again, this was not offered when I ordered. The server (only one on duty) and the cook made it seem like a big deal to change my order to get the spice sprinkled on. They did, and it was not impressive. It was by no means "Nashville Hot". It was spicy, OK, but not Nashville Hot. All they did was sprinkle a spice mix on cold pork rinds, so none of the spice really stuck to the snack. The server was not friendly. She admitted to closing the night before and she was dragging. All she did was take the order, serve it and give the check. She only checked on the order once and never tried to strike up a conversation. I thought maybe it was me, but she treated all the others the same. She never as much as smiled. Most disappointing was the construction activity during business hours. Two bubbas were installing a new ceiling fan. From their discussion, I judged they were not professional tradesmen. They blocked the main and only aisle through the restaurant. Not to mention if there was any dust or other construction debris falling on the food. Other reviews said this is a great Honk Tonk patterned after those in Nashville. This may be true and you may have a good time. For me, no thanks. I'll make the drive. read more

This place is awesome! Great staff, great regulars to chat with. I usually get the Pork Chop, which is as big as the plate it's served on, and can be cut with a fork it's so tender. Today I had the Flat Iron Steak (Blackened), for the first time. It is the best steak I've ever had in a restaurant. We went there for our first and our last time. Given that it was the weekend and there was live music, we knew it would be busy and it was. I grabbed an empty bar stool, ordered a drink, and was looking at the menu. My husband was standing next to me. What was very odd, especially for a bar atmosphere, is that the folks to the right of me wouldn't scoot down to either make room for another bar stool or let alone move one bar stool down. There was a single bar stool at at the other end of the bar so moving down one seat isn't much to ask, except when you're dealing with 20 something year old punks who want to feel important. I went to the other end of the bar and carried the other stool back. Naturally this "girl" to the right of me didn't have the intelligence to take any social cues. When this person got up and left the bar, my husband moved into that bar stool. We scooted down to give the folks to my left more space and we even took the extra bar stool back to the other side of the bar for other patrons to use. This "girl" ended up coming back to the bar about 5-10 minutes later and her "boyfriend" decided to tell my husband he needed to get up. He got in my husbands face and even asked, "What are you going to do about it?" My husbands blood was boiling and he said, "Let's go." That punk kept looking at us and now it makes sense WHY he had been eyeing us from the get go. He was looking for a bar fight. He's a 20 something year old punk who thought that he was "tough" by trying to start something with someone 30 years older than him. I attempted to talk with him and that's when I realized I was dealing with a narcissist. When I told him there were other ways to handle it, he was very rude to me and made some very rude comments about my husband. I knew then to just leave plus my husband grabbed my arm to leave. He knows I don't tolerate bad behavior, especially from a punk that could be my son. It was his lucky day that my son wasn't with me, my husband and I both have professional licenses to maintain, and that years of martial arts training teaches to "avoid" situations. Come to find out, this punk has done this with other people at Hanks. His bartender "friend" takes up for him and makes excuses for him. Anyway, this "girl" left dimes on the bar for the bartender when she got up and walked out and we left him almost a 100% tip. It's unfortunate that the staff and owner missed the opportunity to gain new business, all because of a "wanna feel important" punk. Wish I could give this place negative stars!!! Rude as hell!!! My husband went and met some friends at this place for a quick beer he decided to get take out for us for dinner. The waitress messed up the order numerous times took over an hour to get food that still wasn't right... he finally gave up and took what they gave him so he could get food home to me (I'm home sick). I ordered the catfish plate with mashed potatoes the fish was raw, potatoes were from a box dry and crumbly, the gravy was from a brown gravy packet mix. DISGUSTING! My husband had no dressings on his sandwich and the fries were soggy and drowning in grease. Mind you we live 3 blocks away so nothing should have been soggy. Of course since they couldn't get our meal right we had an additional meal that was not appetizing looking either. I tried 3 times to call and let them know that the food was not good and we were going to be coming back up... no answer. We packed all the food back up and brought it back up there I approached a waitress explaining what was going on she gave me a look of disgust like how dare you bring food back! She went and got the manager (old man) he came over and asked what was wrong I told him the food was disgusting, he stated I was the only person to ever say that everyone lives the food. I explained to him that he should look at his on line reviews and yelp that the establishment only has 3 stars he then Had the nerve to tell me I'll giving you your money back but please don't ever come back. I tried to tell him he should learn from their mistakes and make things better he proceeded to walk away from me. The bartender came over and apologized I told her thanks but the damage was done that we would not return and we would be sure to pass the word on to our friends not to come either. I know they just opened but it wasn't very good at all. The service was terrible- waited for a waitress to take our order then she never came back after she brought our food until the bill. We had to wait forever for our food and I think the air conditioner must have been broken because it was at least 80 degrees in there. We ordered fried pickles for an appetizer which never came. I see people giving this place a lot of flack, but personally I enjoyed my time there. Granted, you have to take into consideration that this is a VERY small bar. It's located in a small strip mall between other businesses. That was the bar's biggest downfall for me. Which is why I gave it 3 stars. It was packed when I showed up on a friday evening. They play live music 5 nights a week, and my beer was fairly priced. I ate the chips and beans for an appetizer, and I really liked them. So, to each is own. I liked it.
