Step aside, Subway. You have met your maker. I used to pass this place daily when I lived at home. It looks like a total dump from the outside and doesn't really stand out as a "must visit" type of place. However, my dad has been raving about how amazing this place is and we decided to stop in there to grab some sandwiches for lunch before I took off to head back to Chicago. So we stopped in. And, just like the outside, this place is pretty dumpy. It's as if someone set up a deli counter, threw in a few snack racks and random pop refrigerators, and opened up a store. But man... those sandwiches. Ridiculous. The menu is pretty straightforward - deli favorites, hot subs, cold subs, corned beef galore, whatever you want. Some of the subs come in one size, while others have options of regular, medium, and large. They all come with lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo, mustard, and a cheese at no charge. I ordered myself a small corned beef sandwich with provolone only. A minute later I watched the sandwich artist throw a half-pound ball of corned beef on the bread and smash the other piece on top of it. Seriously... I've never seen that much meat oozing out of the sides of the sandwich. I then watched him make a "small" gyro which was the size of a football. The dude next to me ordered a medium sub with everything on it and it was enough to feed a small, hungry family. My dad and I went up to the counter. 3 huge sandwiches, and 3 pickles (I guess you get one with each sandwich) and the total was $18. $18 (!!!!!!!) Sweet criminy. What a deal. You could eat for a week off of this. The best part of it all was how great it tasted. I couldn't stop eating it when I got home. The corned beef was excellent - tender, not chewy, and just enough spice to it. Even if it meant being stuffed all day, it was entirely worth it. The Reuben sandwiches here are amazing; they are warm and loaded with flavor, and as everyone has said, fantastic portions! Sure this maybe in a "sketchy neighborhood" and they lack modern luxuries like "chairs" and "tables", but they pass the savings onto you! I usually just sit by the curb right outside by the dumpster, make sure you wear your dirtiest pair of jeans so you can feel "in character" as you chow down on your amazing sandwich. Do yourself a favor and wash it down with a tall can of Arnold Palmer, it compliments it perfectly! One of my favorite places to eat in Northeast Ohio, I can't recommend it enough! read more

Who knows how long this place was here until my Dad randomly went in one day? It's in a corner convenience store. And it looks sketchy as hell. You are also likely to encounter more diversity in 15 minutes than most of the rest of your life as a white suburban Akronite. But do not be scared away. There is meat on sticks. And stupidly cheap prices. And really it's just ridiculous. The prices seem average for sandwiches until you factor in that each sandwich can probably feed two people. Their gyro ceases to function as a sandwich completely. There's a pita on the bottom of that styrofoam container...somewhere. And they just keep piling on the ingredients until you can barely close it! Don't eat here for atmosphere. Or for a warm fuzzy feeling of safety and security. Or if you are a vegetarian. We were mid road trip looking for a spot to grab a bite and saw that people had generally really liked the food here so we mapped it out-and I'm happy we did! Not too far off the highway sits a small, relatively unassuming deli. The food was great, the drink options were plenty, but the main draw is their huge portions for affordable prices. We got 2 drinks, a medium gyro (huge, my hubby couldn't finish it), a small gyro (more than enough!), and a baklava for $17. Oh, and the baklava!!! I used to eat here a lot back when my office was off of Tallmadge Avenue. Their sandwiches are enormous! I don't think I ever picked up one of them and just ate it--always always used a fork. I always have skipped their subs, because as someone else mentioned they're really no different from Subway. My favorite is the gyro salad. Protip: ask for your gyro sauce on the side. When you have them put it on the salad or the gyro, it's always entirely too much. read more

Lunch and a show. ThIs place is always good for a 8$ football sized gyro and mega corned beef or rubeans for a really good price. I've been here dozens of times but one time I went with my dad and the two guys making sandwiches started arguing then it ended with the one guy smashing a tray of corned beef over the other guys head and punching each other before the other female employee broke it up. at first i looked at the prices and thought wow these are outrageous. but was here and was hungry. i got an $8 buffalo chicken wrap. it was yuuugeeee and ate half in the car and the other half later. it was well done and tasty. the people behind the counter are on it. and the i guess owner? seemed pretty funny suggesting someone getting a bottle of water get the "diet water". my friend got a $12 new york cheese steak looking thing, and i though $12???? but damn it was yuuuuugerrrr and looked hella tasty. only downside is theres no tables to sit down and eat, but it is what it is. read more

For less than $9, I got the Gyro combo, which included a delicious, gigantic beef gyro (I'm talking enough to feed two people), fries, and a drink. I could see myself going here for lunch everyday. Many other options on the menu as well including cheesesteaks and hoagies. read more

I don't understand all the fluff around this place. I can think of half a dozen places around the area that I much rather prefer over Haninis. Haninis couldn't tell me what all the whitish colored things are in the pan of "steak". Are they pieces of fat? What IS all of that? When asked what it is, they looked at each other and shrugged. I'll pass on the steak. I'm also passing on the bacon. Why? Cuz they don't HAVE pork bacon! Really? Yes, really! They don't have pork bacon!. What kind of sub shop doesn't carry bacon? Or salami! NO BACON? NO SALAMI? In fact, they don't carry ANY pork products. So if, like me, you enjoy delicious pork meats on your subs, you're out of luck at Haninis. HANINIS DOES NOT HAVE: Bologna Ham Bacon Prosciutto Mortadella Salami Uhhh.... thanks Haninis but to me, those meats are what makes a delicious all-American sub a sub. I WANT PORK and LOTS OF IT. I'll go to any of the other places and I can get delicious pork bacon and salami piled high on my sub. But NOT at Haninis. I've noticed your parking lot is almost always empty. Perhaps this is why. FYI:. I used their online coupon for $1 off on subs. They only took $1 of my entire order, not off each of the 3 subs we ordered. If you order something here and don't like it, you're crazy. Giant sandwiches (and salads) and great taste. I work 30 minutes from here and we send someone to get food once a week. The sandwiches are delicious, enormous, and reasonably priced. Order the Reuben sub and I challenge you to finish it. We haven't ordered Subway in 3 months since we started routinely making the trip here. The guys who make the subs are incredibly nice and have memories like elephants. We order 6 to 10 subs every time we go and without a pen and paper these guys remember all of it. In all of our trips there, they've screwed up ZERO orders. Love this place! read more

A true diamond in the rough. I would never have expected to stop at a small shop in the middle of Pittsburgh and find such amazing food. They have a great selection of other items as well things you can't get at a normal place like this. About three hours later I fell violently ill with food poisoning to the point I needed to be transported by ambulance to the Akron City emergency room. In all seriousness, this is probably the best deal in Akron. I come here all the time and the portions are HUGE, not an exaggeration. I usually get a medium gyro which is a pound of meat with any toppings you want, I get the basics, lettuce, tomato, red onion, and tzatziki sauce. Not only are the portions huge, but the food is absolutely delicious. Fresh tasting and seasoned just right. You can see all of the vegetables lined up right in front of you and the lamb on the vertical spit is within eye sight. The have little random snack-size bags of chips around the store and a few coolers of drinks to choose from. I've never gotten a large gyro from here, but when I asked a woman who worked here how much meat is on the large she told me a pound and a half. That is an insane amount of meat. especially for only $9. Even the medium is so packed with ingredients that it is impossible to meet together both sides of the pita. This place does not look impressive from the outside, and the inside basically looks like an independent convenience store with a deli counter. But don't let that fool you. This place is grade A when it comes to getting gigantic gyro's and subs. read more

This is one of my top favorite places to eat in Akron. Portions are out of control and the food is delicious. If you show up for the lunch rush you may have a bit of a wait, but it is well worth it. Gyros and corned beef sandwiches are my two favorite things to eat here. I am a big eater and I usually can barely manage to eat a small. I joke with them that they must make the sandwiches not by the size you order but rather by how much they think you can eat. Their corned beef just melts in your mouth. Above average sub place. My only negative was that I got a large Gyro and the amount of meat on it was asinine. Like no human being on Earth could take a bite out of that sandwich.
