this place is awesome because they rotate the wall design every couple weeks so we get to experience different climbs. Sadly, parking has always been a challenge here so sometimes you have to walk a little bit because street parking is very very limited, not to mention parking inside the plaza itself. The rental shoe is $3, and be sure to check their social medias because they have promotion frequently. I was able to snatch their Bogo deals. It's always crowded after 7 PM so sometimes it's hard for me to climb around that time, but those are the only times that I'm available. I no longer live in the area, haven't been inside a location in over a year, and terminated the original student membership summer of 2025. The same exact situation is also happening to a close friend of mine where she cancelled her membership online and still keeps getting charges. I've always had a decent time here but for whatever reason one of the workers decided to go on a power trip and shout at me for mistakenly getting in the potential way of climbers on an adjacent wall. I was half way up a white tag that I did as an easy warm up being an experienced climber. These climbers were testing out the start of a climb mind you not even climbing yet and she decided to yell at me for no reason. When I hopped off the wall I apologized to the climbers and let them know it was entirely accidental as is typical when these sorts of things happen. They were in no way bothered by me which they articulated to me after I apologized. But yet she STILL continued to yell at me and berate me instead of listening to the interaction. Mind you no one was in any danger whatsoever... Clearly she was having a bad day and decided to take it out on me... but unfortunately this interaction ruined my entire climbing experience I understand the rules as I've been here before numerous times but what's not okay and IS dangerous is yelling at someone when they're already on the wall She was white, with orange hair, a bandana, an orange hangar18 shirt on 8/18 in the evening. I believe she needs to go through extensive training so she doesn't take her feelings out on people visiting this location. read more

There is plenty of parking available on site. Decent climbing gym with friendly staff. You can get a membership or you can get a day pass. Prices are not too bad. It is unacceptable how they treat prospective customers here. I was interested in joining this particular climbing gym because it was local, but upon arrival I was asked to provide an ID. I tried to explain that I signed their release waivers and that I wouldn't be needing their services today as I was only trying to inspect the gym to see if it met my climbing expectations, but they insisted that I be removed from the location entirely because it was a "liability issue". The actual "issue" here is that all of the employees working here today (8/29/26) have little to no understanding of the word liable. Every single employee continued to repeat the same phrase "it's a liability issue" without further explanation or context when asked what implications they were liable for. It came off as a petty excuse to burden newcomers into releasing sensitive documents to track their data e.g. how often they come to the gym, membership retention, etc. I knew what rights I waived when I signed their digital documents because it was printed right there in black and white. On a separate note, this gym looked like it hadn't been cleaned since it opened. The bathrooms were littered and there was dust on the devices used to sign up and all around the surrounding area - not to be confused with chalk. I will instead be a patron of Sender One climbing and would recommend others to stay away from this rather unsanitary gym. read more

Eddie Hills Chief Strategy Officer has the worst customer service I've ever seen. Sent a message on July 2nd and didn't receive any communication until 2 weeks later. Sent back another message right away and still haven't heard from them. If Hangar's strategy is to reply so slowly to messages that members have to pay another month before getting a reply it's really paying off. It's a decent gym with nice people. My biggest complaint I've had for a couple years going here now is the weird color-coded rating system for the routes (large groups of difficulties are categorized by color, such as red tags being anything from a V2 to a V4 (huge gap!!)). Every other hangar 18 I've gone to doesn't do this, they individually label each route as its own V grade. The color system makes it really hard for me to accurately gauge what grade I'm doing as well as my progress over time. There might be some sort of reason for this, but considering almost every other climber I've met that's gone to Orange has complained about this system, the reasoning doesn't seem sufficient. This is the only Hangar within a reasonable distance to me and has unfortunately grown to be my least favorite because of this. read more

Hangar 18 is a decent climbing gym if you are into bouldering. The only reason I give it 3 stars is that there are a LOT of people at this location and the AC is non-existent, there are only fans around. The cost for the membership though is definitely reasonable. This is probably the most reasonable climbing membership cost you can get. Overall, everyone is really friendly and this is perfect if you are just getting into climbing. I've heard other gyms like Movement or Sender One might be better once you get more skilled, but it's good enough for me. read more

Plenty of parking spaces, but can get tough to find one. It was my first time going, so I had to fill out paper forms ahead of time or you can fill it out when you get there. Hangar 18 was the first bouldering gym I ever had a membership for. I had been a casual member for several months and made it to a V1/V2 level from no previous experience. I recently cancelled because I'm exploring other hobbies now. Pros: -Great place for climbers on a budget or people new to bouldering. -Good number of routes for every level and a clear system for difficulty. -Sometimes they have a ping pong table set up Cons: -It's a very popular location and can get crowded on popular nights (see more details below on busy days) -Gym is on the smaller side. There will be a lot of routes on one wall. They have overhangs, but slab wall is closer to 90 degrees and they don't have one that's more noticeably angled. Ceiling is not high enough for top ropes at this location. -A lot of the routes can feel like they can be "brute forced" where instead of thinking about how to move your body in a certain way to climb, the routes can be accomplished simply if you're strong enough to hold on and go from one hold to the next. May not be interesting enough problems for higher level climbers. --- Crowdedness: The staff told me for weekday nights, Tuesdays and Thursdays tend to be the busiest days to go while Mondays and Fridays will be less crowded, however it can still get busy. If there are too many people, they'll have a line waiting outside but they still fit in a lot of people inside. Inside the gym, people sometimes sit on the edge of the bouldering mats, but there's not a lot of space between the wall and the mat already since the gym is a bit small so it doesn't feel like there's a lot of space to fall or you might worry about where you fall. Parking: I've usually found parking in the lot, but be warned that the lot is shared with some other businesses in the area and a lot of the parking spots say "No Hangar 18 parking". I ran into some friends there and when we left for the night they had thought it said "Hangar 18 parking" (the words are pretty faded in some spots), so it looks like the Hangar 18 people will park there. However, you are at risk of being towed. I'm not saying you should park there and they have their own parking map of where you can park. But there are a lot of spots which say no Hangar 18 parking that are left empty. Intro Classes: I would sometimes bring my friends who were new to bouldering and they would have to take an intro class. Intro class experience varies depending on who the instructor is. One time the staff ran the class for a whole hour even though the class was scheduled for a half hour. My friend learned a lot though and it's a hands on lecture so it was good. Another time they were very strict about us being late and we had to come back another day to do the lesson. Staff: The front desk has people who are enthusiastic about bouldering and friendly. Large gym but also many people despite the non-peak time. They only have bouldering in the location. No belay. A few other things to do other than climbing (table tennis, board game, etc). I wanted to like 18 Orange, but the whole experience left me and my friends pretty disappointed. I went once to climb, and then came back planning to use the intro class I bought on Groupon. When we got there, the staff told us we couldn't use the intro class because we had already visited the gym before. I didn't remember seeing that rule anywhere on Groupon or their website, but I didn't argue at the time. Later, I actually checked for myself and realized it wasn't written anywhere. I called the gym, explained the situation, and they basically confirmed that I was right -- nothing online says you can't take the intro class if you've visited before -- but told me it was just their internal policy. Honestly, that's frustrating. We really wanted to learn in person, but between being turned away twice and how uninterested the staff seemed, we just gave up. The employees mostly sit around talking to each other and don't seem motivated to help visitors or teach newcomers. The service just isn't there, and it felt like they didn't care whether we stayed or left. It could be a great spot, but right now the customer experience needs serious work. read more

I really like this gym! It's one of the bigger Hangar 18 gyms I've checked out and there's always fun and creative projects to check out. There's a small gym area in the back and 3 bathrooms. There's also a small recreational area with a ping pong table. The only thing is that when they hit capacity inside, they'll cap you and have you wait outside until someone leaves. Oh how I want to give this place 5 stars! But the immense paperwork, confused staff who contradict one another, the horrible shared parking situation, the average air circulation... I could go on. We were lured into the great anniversary sale for the summer. Be informed! First time visitors complete a very long liability waiver form online. You have to watch an orientation video (no ability to fast forward or pause) before you can sign that form as well. Then the fall test when you arrive. It can take up to 20 minutes fyi. We do like the weekly problem changes per section so people don't get bored. There's a small fitness area and 1 table tennis table if you want to change things up while bouldering. No belay or rope climbing here. We got a great deal for my boys so I can't complain too much. The best advice is to come a few minutes before 10am opening for parking spots and you can just stretch while standing in line. read more

Jackie/Jacky instructed our group for the Intro to Bouldering Class. It's very quick (30 min) and goes over the basics of what you need to know before bouldering such as how to fall, safety, and etiquette. The class comes with rental shoes, a day pass, and chalk! She also demonstrated a few of the routes for us too. There's plenty of cubbies around for you to put your belongings in, and some board games, ping pong tables, and workout equipment available for you to use. As a beginner, I'd say that the environment is friendly- a more experienced person gave tips to my friend when they were trying to climb the peg board. If you don't do well with many people watching you, or don't like groups of people clustered around the entire space, avoid going on Saturday morning. There's also more guys than girls here, but I didn't feel self-conscious about that. It is crowded for a Saturday morning, but there were less people in the afternoon. There were a lot of people, but the air didn't smell like sweat. Parking is hard to find- there's not that many spaces designated for Hangar18 so either come early or park farther and walk over. Make sure to hydrate and stretch before/after! You'll be sore the next day. TIP: Cut your nails if they're long, or you'll have a hard time bouldering. read more

I think the only gripe I have about this place is the parking. It freaking sucks. I was able to find a spot in front of a different business that didn't have parking signs. Other than that, you can get your climb on here when it's busy or when it's not too busy. Sunday morning it got pretty crowded. Most people sit on the sidelines and observe. I also wen on Monday afternoon. Around 4:30pm. It wasn't as busy as Sunday was. Parking was still horrible. There are plenty of walls to climb/boulder. I hear they switch it up so the walls are not the same and you get new climbs ever so often. Just not sure when they do the updates. I'm a beginner and can't wait to learn more about bouldering. Overly crowded with not enough climbing space for the amount of people and terrible parking.

One part climbing gym, one part social hour! This seems to be the hot spot for college kids in the area because it was packed midday on a Wednesday. The layout of the gym is unique in that there is a social area in the middle with couches, board games, and a ping pong table along with cubbies to hold personal belongings and climbing gear. I like this aspect because it gives people a dedicated space to hang out rather than having large groups of people chatting/lounging on the climbing mats. I found the routes to be both fun and challenging. The gym uses a color tag system that I enjoyed because it almost allows you to go for climbs you wouldn't have tried otherwise if labeled "V6" or something above your average climbing level. This gym is strictly bouldering -- no top rope, lead, or autobelay. The gym is much bigger than it looks from the outside and I was pleasantly surprised with how many routes there were. Like others have mentioned, parking is an issue. The lot was completely full on a Wednesday afternoon so I can't imagine finding parking on a weekend. Another downside was the lack of ventilation inside. It gets very warm and they use large noisy floor fans to keep air circulating. Many climbers would stand in front of these fans and clap/shake the excess chalk off their hands so, as you can imagine, the air was very chalky and unpleasant. read more

Solid Gym and parking is not always the best but Hangar 18 has indeed progressed with this problem. We're now able to park under the black box building that's a few feet away from the gym. Overall, there is a great variety of climbing routes and fitness equipment BUT--- I really wish this place opened up a 9am. Again, an hour early would mean a lot as my personal/work life is demanding with early schedules at times. Heck, 9:30am would also work and it'd just be beneficial overall. Mutually, many Hangar 18 members would be content with earlier business operation hours. My group of friends came for the first time and everyone had fun. We all took bouldering lessons, which was informative and hands on. Employees were friendly. TLDR: spacious; lots of routes, lots of variety; beginner-friendly; affordable prices; friendly staff and amazing community; previously "The Factory" I have been to a couple of climbing gyms around the Orange County area and this Hangar 18 location has been my favourite so far. I love bringing my friends here when I am trying to introduce them to bouldering. I don't get bored when I am here and it makes me feel like I can spend hours at the gym. // LOCATION // The gym is located in a building that looks like offices (dull exteriors). There are certain places you can not park so be sure to check and ask. They have a paper explaining where to park inside the gym. Hangar 18 - Orange is all bouldering and there is no top-roping. The inside is super spacious. Even when there is a lot of people, you will still have your own space without feeling so cramped as opposed to other gyms like Hangar 18. I don't really ever feel like I'll be in someones way of climbing. There are a bunch of cubbies all over the gym to place your stuff. There is also a large clock which is helpful to keep track of time while you climb. There is a wide range of climbing routes for all types of climbers. The grade based on colour (i.e. yellow = v0-2; orange = v5-7, etc.) At first, I did not like this system but I realized it is more encouraging that way. It pushes me to try harder routes. If you're new to climbing, The Factory is where you should come first! If you're starting out, the routes are very beginner-friendly and are designed to get you comfortable and help build your technique. It prepared you for the next levels. Everything feels like a good challenge! There is a good balance between overhangs and slabs. In the front is a nice chill and relax area. If you need a break, you can sit on the comfy futons. There is also a ping pong table if you want to play and do something different for a moment. There is also more space to train in addition to the area in the back. Moreover, there is a fitness area with a set of weights, bars, and more. It is a small area but you will have plenty of workouts that will help in between climbing. // PRICE // For one time day passes, adult price is $22. Shoe rental is $3. If you know that you're going to be bouldering at least twice a month, it's worth it to get a membership (especially since there's other locations in the chain you could go to). It's normally $54 and discounted $44 for students, teachers, healthcare workers, and military. The freezing/cancelling membership process is super easy too if you need to do so. If you know you'll be coming back again but can not commit to a monthly membership, I recommend getting the prepaid 10 visit punchcard. It becomes $18 per visit. You might be able to use your prepaid visit punchcard with your friends to get a lower price per visit. It also puts less pressure for you to use up all ten by yourself. I can only compare this to Sender One. In terms of size, I think the bouldering is about the same size. I think the biggest difference is the it feels like Hanger has a lot more paths and it's more compact. Sender One feels more spaced out. Both seems about the same size for bouldering. Hangar's room isn't as high as Sender One and Hangar is only bouldering and nothing else. Finally, parking is horrible. read more
