I made ZocDoc appt with a PT who no longer works at this office - no one told me before arriving; they assigned me to someone else without asking. I wasn't told to bring a referral so was offered a virtual provider visit. The MD was nice but did not review my pre-visit health history; I had to go through everything again and he wanted me to take a muscle relaxer 3 times a day - absolutely not. The office was dirty and messy. I told the receptionist I had a bad experience and I continued to receive multiple calls and texts asking to set up more appts after I told them I would not be returning. I just received a notification confirming a pain management appointment that I never made. The entire experience was very unprofessional. read more

Excellent therapists - joy, Maj and Eglal are great and they are knowledgeable! The room has not air circulation so a good Air purifier will be great bcs the air is polluted with full of micro dust and lots breaths of the patients.... I do not recommend this place in Astoria in NY, especially for those who need to do pelvic floor rehabilitation. 1) Out of five appointments the physiotherapist could not be found three times. They didn't warn me so as not to make me go unnecessarily. 2) The exercises they made me do for the pelvic floor were exercises that can be done easily by watching tutorials on YouTube, but above all I was not followed in carrying out the exercise, given that at the same time, he was telling other patients the exercises to do, nor did she tell me if there was a correct way to breathe (which is very important in pelvic floor rehabilitation), when I asked her she told me to breathe normally. I didn't like it, I didn't see any professionalism or seriousness. Luckily I found another center in Astoria to do rehabilitation. read more

don't use this place. Had 1 session of pelvic pt and woman was very nice but used alcohol on a probe and shouldn't have done that. Had to go to my gyn the next day for burning issue. Woman pt insisted no one ever had problem and she was right to do what she did. Contacted my doc and agreed as well as gyn NOT to use alcohol. Also they don't honor the hippa law.... I was in a room that was not private. the walls (unknown to me at the time) didn't go to the ceiling. The entire place could hear our conversation over these walls.......... Not professional at all.........very sad and mad. Had to go to NYC to see gyn pay for visit, and transportation. They called to check on me the evening of the visit and the day after. But this pt. person insisted she was right. I told her that Hands of hope should pay for visit and transport. ALL UNNECESSARY AND AN EXPENSE I DIDN'T NEED. Great place. It is clean and appears to be well equipped. I had an ACL reconstructive surgery that requires therapy for recovery. I'm seeing major improvements over the past 3 sessions already. The staff is super friendly and helpful. it is nice to hear them joke and enjoy their work. Also, they are always attentive too. My only complaints are the initial booking over the phone took a long time to connect with anyone so I went through Zocdoc to make the appointment; next, there isn't any place to set aside garments if you need to take anything off unless you want to leave it in a corner somewhere. I'd probably recommend a very small cubby for a quick solution. read more

I have knee osteoarthritis and have been desperately searching for a significant improvement to my condition other than knee replacement surgery because of its long traumatic recovery time. I stumbled upon a therapy called APOS which claims to reduce pain and improve walking technique. Once I found out my health insurance (HealthFirst) covered the cost of APOS, I did a little research to find out APOS is administered by wearing a specially designed shoe for about 1 hour per day. Most videos and articles showed patients walking in their APOS shoes on a long computerized gait mat which analyzes patient's walking technique. As of 6-23-23 I have only been to a Hands Of Hope (HOH) clinic twice but that is enough for me to form a strong opinion that they are a disreputable organization that only cares about taking your and your health insurance money. My first visit was at their Astoria clinic on 1-25-23 I went their to meet Robert who is HOH's APOS therapist. When Robert informed me that I would not be leaving the clinic with the APOS shoes I said, "Oh I assumed I would.". He replied "that is because APOS shoes are custom made.". It wasn't until a few days later that it hit me; how can my APOS shoes be custom made when no mold or laser scanning device was used to measure my feet? Did Robert lie and why? Also there was no computerized gait analysis mat like in most of the youtube videos. He just placed his cell phone with a gait analysis app running into my pants pocket. I found out later on that these apps give very limited information about one's gait compared with a large expensive computerized mat. When my shoes arrived at my home a week later I was surprised at how loosely they fit. I showed Robert my 11 USA Sketchers at the initial visit but the APOS shoes were 12.5 USA ! I certainly did not request 12.5 so why would they send me a grossly oversized expensive medical shoe? In my one phone conversation with Robert he adamantly refused to take responsibility for the size mistake. When I asked about a follow up appointment he said the only reason I should make a follow up appointment is if the shoes are causing me pain even though the claims on the APOShealth site state that 5 follow up visits are required to receive the full therapy. Eventually Shumaila from HOH called me to set up my second appointment at HOH at their Morris Park, Bronx clinic on 6-16-23. This was over 4 months after the first visit even though the APOShealth site clearly states that the 2nd & 3rd visits should be within 2 months of the initial appointment. She told me that Robert was away on a long vacation which was an obvious lie because any reputable organization would have someone else fill in for the patient to receive their proper therapy. At that 2nd appointment Shumaila tried to convince me that I approved of the size 12.5 shoes by showing me a printout of my signature on the contract. I signed the contract but was never informed that it was for 12.5 shoes when I have been using size 11 shoes for my entire adult life. Robert pressed the front of my shoes with his fingers then exclaimed "they're not so big; I can feel your big toe". They are so big that I need to put on 3 pairs of socks to not swim in them which has become very time consuming and too hot for the Summer. If a so called therapist can't figure out the correct size shoe for a patient then he is incompetent but when he refuses to correct his mistake then he is a scam artist. Now that you know how I feel about HOH, I will tell you what I think of the actual therapy. It is a very weak but expensive therapy that helps at best 10% (not worth more than $500, let alone the $5000 typical charge). Most studies know this. The therapy has received some positive press over the last few years, but not everyone is enthusiastic. Stanford spine surgeon Todd Alamin questioned Apos' medical studies, calling them, "relatively poor," with "weak evidence." And then there's the price. The out-of-pocket cost is about $5,000 for those not covered by Healthfirst. APOS says health care providers set the price and the cost includes a fitting with a physical therapist and multiple follow-up sessions. Alamin says, "If their shoe is worth the money, they should have better data." One study, published in BMC Musculoskeletal Disorders, lasted eight weeks and involved 57 patients, including a control group. It found significant improvements in the patients who used the shoe, and no improvements in the control group. But a lengthier study followed 40 participants over two years and didn't find a meaningful difference in improvement between those using the shoes and a control group! So far I have notice a little improvement but it never gets greater than "a little". read more

The worst service at the reception desk by Suad. She helps only Arabic speaking people and ignoring other people. My mother used to go to this PT for entire 2022 and team of Dr. Jahanvi was amazing, Cherish and Megan were very helpful and friendly. However, this new team full of male doctors are very ignorant and absolutely not attentive to patients. My mother came on the scheduled appointment and she waited for 30 min at reception and no one even told her that appointment was rescheduled. No one apologized, no one explained anything. Instead Suad gave my mother 5 pages of paperwork with attitude to fill out even though she wasn't a new patient and I asked many times not give any paperwork to her because of a language barrier. I asked dozen times to put my contact details if any assistance needed. Prior I called and specifically asked to schedule the appointment with a female doctor and my mom cancelled other appointments just catch this one. There were no women out there. My mother went to do exercises and she GOT ZERO HELP OR GUIDANCE FROM Dr. Hassan and three other doctors and assistants. They were just hanging around like it was a gym, not a PT facility where elderly people come to get treatment. My mom got a new set of exercises and was totally ignored by doctors. Due to a language barrier she experienced difficulties to ask names of exercises which she shouldn't have been on the first place. Exercises must be shown and guided. With that said, I asked to send me the discharge letter multiple times and then very rude Annie ("the manager") called me mispronouncing my name because I had an ACCENT and she was very argumentative. I advised her in NYC we don't say it out loud about accents, but she kept going that it is "normal" to have accents and point out about it. Lol what a disaster! Once again no explanation, no apologies from her. Overall, very discriminatory environment and zero respect. Simply run from this place! read more

I started therapy only a couple of weeks ago and have see so much improvement with my back and hip issues. The front desk staff is amazing and super friendly. The physical therapists are very knowledgeable, as well as, patient and concerning. Hassan has been my main therapist and he has been amazing after I've tried physical therapy and other alternate therapies in the past - but this has definitely worked and made me feel significantly better. Then Covid happened .. office closed. I waited til my back was in full spasm and couldn't breath. I found Hands of Hope online. Read the positive reviews. They were able to get me in the same day. From the moment I walked into the practice til I left, I was in great hands. Amazing friendly Staff... Super professional & made you feel welcomed. Dr. Hassan Elagaty worked with me. I book an appointment via Zocdoc and it confirms that they take my insurance (Empire Plan/United Healthcare/NYSHIP). They reschedule my appointment and confirm it with me. Perfect. No big deal. The moment I show up for my appointment they tell me I'm out of network and I owe $250. The girl at the desk says she's been trying to call me all day and could only get through to Verizon. Hi I went to hands of hope to recover from a accident in the subway station, they were working very good until they started not requesting more PT sessions their staff also told Me they filed appeals on my behalf I called my insurance company They told me any appeal was never filled I'm very disappointed of this place, one of their Dr's in the Whitestone location told me your insurance does not want to pay for more sessions which is not true but they do not know what to do with their staff who constantly screw up in documentation, also I always keep track in my calendar how many therapies I have had I realized they were cutting me off from PT sessions before reaching the amount of approved visits by my insurance, they were requesting only 2 visits thet did this on propouse to obtain a denial from my insurance, I do not need to go to this place in which their own terapists neglect people by cutting off before time, also trying to charge copays when the patients does not have copays it only shows they are not doing their job,also they lie about filling appeals on peoples behalf. read more

I started going for Physical Therapy at Hands of Hope and it was great in the beginning. But I noticed a lack of hands on attention from the staff. I was given instructions to do certain exercises but no one was following thru to see if it was completed. I was uncomfortable with this because I could simply google these exercises I didn't have to drive fifty minutes to be ignored. Sometime later I received a call from Hands of Hope asking about my experience at the facility and I answered honestly and mentioned the lack of attention that I was receiving from the staff, I did mention that I wanted to remain anonymous. Well, on my next visit for physical therapy at Hands of Hope I arrived and placed my glasses on top of my hand bag and proceeded with the therapy. At the end of the session I left and went to my car, looked for my glasses realized that I left them in the physical therapy room. I immediately returned maybe two minutes later and proceeded to search for my glasses and they were nowhere to be found. I was informed that the company was not responsible for lost property and the company would not reimburse me for my lost/stolen glasses. I think it's pretty ironic that my glasses turned up missing in a very small confined space. There is no way that glasses can simply disappear into thin air. Therefore I have renamed the company from Hands of Hope to Hands of Thieves. read more

I was going here for PT for my ankle. I absolutely loved it. Everyone was really friendly and knowledgeable! They made me feel comfortable. The offer aqua therapy, which was so cool. It felt like I was going to a spa instead of PT. The only issue I had was that the towels weren't that absorbent. It was difficult to dry after pool and have to get dressed again because of the towels and humidity in the room. Know they can't do much about that. I would just suggest bring your own towel. Highly recommend this place! read more
