I have gone to Spear PT's LIC location for physical therapy treatment for two unrelated running injuries (a calf injury in 2022 and a grade 1 ankle sprain in 2023). For my first injury, I met with Tony Ng and for my second injury, I met with both Tony Ng and Martin Del Prado due to all of our availabilities. For each injury, I had several appointments which involved various exercises and cross-friction massages as well as take home exercises through MedBridge GO. And for each injury, I recovered well. I am very happy with Spear Physical Therapy and will keep them in mind for any future injuries (knock on wood that they are few and far between). And they have so many locations across NYC too! read more

While PT is never a "fun" experience, it was an extremely positive one at this location (aka Cityview) for several reasons. First, my PT, Fatou, was outstanding. She's an amazing practitioner and had the right balance of coaching and programming knowledge and cheerleading/encouragement. Additionally, she has a great ability to pivot and modify sessions based on feedback. Lastly, she's an excellent communicator both during the session as well via email. If it were not for her I don't think my ankle would have healed as quickly and fully as it has. The space has plenty of machines/equipment and the facility is tidy and clean. The rest of the staff were always friendly and helpful as well. read more

This is a sub-standard physical therapy provider. I have had physical therapy at 3 other physical therapy centers, and I have never been somewhere like this. The physical therapist at Spear gives me an exercise and literally walks away leaving me to do it on my own. I have NEVER, at other sites, had a therapist not observe me doing an exercise while monitoring my form. This is highly irregular. In addition, the facility is chaotic and noisy. It is surrounded by tennis and squash courts, and they seem to share the place with children who run around in half their area. It is noisy and crowded. There was even awful music playing. The chaos and noise are not conducive to healing and learning exercises. In addition, when I was there, there were no available beds!! This is just insane. I have NEVER been to a physical therapy center where there isn't a nice quiet bed space. There is also no privacy at all. I recommend NYU Langone for physical therapy or Orthology in Sunnyside. At NYU the sessions are short, but very professional. At Orthology, some of the physical therapists are excellent and others mediocre. The facility is shabby, but better than Spear for sure. The only upside at Spear is that unlike at better places, it's very easy to get an appointment. However, there seems to be a reason for why one has to wait at NYU Langone or other professional places for an appointment. This place does not seem to be much in demand and there are reasons for that! Another really unprofessional aspect of Spear is their portal. One cannot make appointments on it or message ones provider. If you go to NYU Langone or HSS for PT, you get the excellent hospital portal where you can make appointments and also see your exercises and medical records. There is no way for me to see a written summary of my visit or what progress I am making at their sad bare bones portal. Finally, I did not have enough sessions to fully assess the physical therapist. She seems OK, but she does not fully explain the exercises or why they are good for my particular injury. Since there are no medical records posted online, there is also not possibility to read up on any thing. read more

I had shin splint, and got paired up with Jillian Lye. Jillian worked with my insurance company to get extensions. Jillian did an excellent job of giving me stretches and strengthening exercises that really helped me with my injury and to relieve the pain that I had. I highly recommend her, and I will refer anyone that asks to go see her. read more

This SPEAR location is awesome. The staff are all welcoming and friendly each visit. The space is very clean and well maintained. I was in a car-hijacking and incurred a broken ACL shoulder bone. I worked with Stratos Papazahariou, PT, DPT over a 3-month period and it really helped me in my recovery process. I was referred by my podiatrist originally to work on an ankle issue, but I've since been back to work with Martin on multiple other things I did to my body accidentally, and he is amazing at what he does. So is the rest of the staff: if you come to Spear for physical therapy, it's going to work, and you're going to feel completely safe and supported the entire time you're recovering/healing/getting stronger. I had surgery on my shoulder and it wasn't healing right. I couldn't even throw a ball and I felt stuck. I began going to Spear PT City View in LIC and begin meeting with Jill. She did a fantastic job of helping me build back strength and flexibility. She gave me exercises to do at home and worked with me when I had to move an appointment. She's very good at her job of helping people recover. I recommend selecting Jill if you have a need for some PT. read more

After extensive shoulder surgery, my rehab doctor recommended SPEAR for physical therapy, based on the results other patients of hers had gotten. I chose the Long Island City facility, and was assigned to Martin, who was assisted during most of my visits by Khari or Francesca. I went into PT just hoping to regain shoulder function, but I came out of it with much more than that. For more than 30 years, I had focused on flexibility, range of motion, and cardio, but Martin showed me the value of resistance training, even in my mid-60s. The experience was life-changing. During the course of therapy, I gained a fair amount of muscle mass and still lost 15 pounds, and I put together an exercise regimen that will improve my strength and health for the rest of my life. The SPEAR facility has a friendly, easy-going vibe. The staff joke around with each other and the patients, which makes a good, supportive atmosphere. The therapists are highly qualified professionals, committed to their patients' well-being, and it shows in the results. I could not be happier. This was my fifth experience with physical therapy over several decades. The others were competent, but SPEAR was outstanding. read more

This place is great!! I've gotten physical therapy before but an app with videos and instructions on how to do the exercises at home. Everyone was warm and great to work with. Worst customer service ever! Avoid going to this location if you want to avoid them telling you that they would call you prior to your appointment with payment details and they never do - in fact when you call them they say that you have no co-pay. I highly recommend SPEAR. This is my 3rd injury that I've had treated at SPEAR, but my first time at this location. My PT Martin was excellent! Super personable, professional, and knowledgeable. He took the time to explain the benefits of every exercise and always kept it interesting by adjusting a portion of our day to do something a little different. Front to back including the office staff everyone was a pleasure to work with. While I always hope to never see my PT's professionally again (be injury free) it would be a pleasure to return. read more

I had frozen shoulder, and got paired up with Joe Kim. Joe really went the extra mile working with me. He worked with my insurance company to get extensions, and even referred me to an orthopaedic doctor where I received a cortisone shot to relieve the inflammation and pain. Joe did an excellent job of giving me stretches and strengthening exercises that really helped me to regain mobility, and to relieve the pain that I had. He is very knowledgeable, thorough, and is very good at what he does. I highly recommend him, and I will refer anyone that asks to go see him. You will not be disappointed. My podiatrist recommended Spear as the best physical therapy practice in New York, and after my experience I agree. I went to the Long Island City office for 8 weeks to work on my ankle tendinitis. My therapist Martin was excellent. I appreciated his patience as he explained my condition and path to healing, and walked me through exercises. Jo, the tech aide, offered great support during my sessions to help me do everything correctly. My appointments were early in the morning, and I was consistently amazed that everyone on the Spear team was so kind, positive, and engaged when I was still trying to wake up! I also appreciated that the team was available by email to answer any questions and recap exercises. The LIC facility is also quite nice. There's a lot of room and it's right off the 7 stop (like 50 feet away). The locker rooms and exercise space are clean and open, and it's much calmer than the Grand Central space I started at. I had an episode of severe sciatica after working out that lasted for weeks. I could hardly walk. Joe Kim did a great job of giving me exercises that not only resolved the pain but also gave me mobility and strengthened the muscles that that will prevent it from coming back. BEWARE- SPEAR PHYSICAL THERAPY IS OVERCHARGING PATIENTS AND THEN REFUSING TO REFUND THE MONEY. I was overcharged for all of my appointments at Spear. They also insisted that I pay for each appointment at time of service. When I checked with my insurance I was told that they would never authorize this high of a payment amount. My insurance then notified me of the amounts that I should have been charged. I tried calling Spear several times to discuss but was told by costumer service that a manager would need to call me back. I never received a call back. My insurance offered to step in to help me contact Spear. They were directed to a 3rd party billing company. The overcharge amount was verified by my insurance and the 3rd party billing company and I was told it would take 4-6 weeks to receive a check in the mail. I've still not received the check. It's unfortunate that I had to abruptly stop by path to healing because of Spears exploitative billing practices. read more
