Naturally, I was very nervous to find the right facility for my Dad to recover in. Two different…read moreprofessionals who specialize in working with the geriatric population in this area highly recommended Alta to me. They both said it was the best skilled nursing facility in Ventura County--and they are very knowledgeable about all facilities in the area. At the time, one of their own loved ones was actually a patient at Alta. I knew if this was the choice for their family, then it was an excellent choice for mine. They were absolutely correct to recommend Alta; this facility is top notch. The Director of Admissions, Rommie, caught me on a day when I was not myself. (Rommie- you're the best!) I like to think of myself as a fairly balanced person, but when my father was in a difficult place, I was an absolute disaster; anxious, panicked, and emotional. Rommie could not have been more understanding, patient or more empathetic. I'll never forget his kindness and professionalism as it made a big impact on me. Every staff member responded with nothing but understanding and support. From the moment my father arrived at Alta - from Avi in admissions to the Physical Therapists, nurses, and aides--everyone was nothing short of exceptional. Elisa, the nurse who handles initial admissions, is so sweet, helpful, and caring. The entire staff is professional, kind, empathetic, and genuinely compassionate. What stands out most is their remarkable combination of expertise and heart. They are quick to help, receptive, approachable, never defensive, and always committed to making sure my father received the best possible care. Even in the absolute best facilities, things happen. The way this team handles situations with openness, honesty, and dedication is incredibly reassuring and comforting. Even when I brought my two young children, ages two and four, everyone welcomed them warmly, showing genuine friendliness and patience. I truly admire professionals who work with this patient population and specialty. I can imagine that it can be so challenging dealing with not only patients but also, their families. It's clear the staff at Alta truly love what they do. I am so grateful for the care, compassion, and professionalism throughout the facility. Ashley who is in charge of the CNAs is excellent at her job. Whenever I saw her, she was managing or solving issues with energy and positivity. She never stops! She' is extremely capable and caring. I felt like she was really looking out for my Dad to ensure his safety and give me peace of mind. Javier, the Director of Nursing assisted me the first night my Dad was admitted. He wasn't even on site but he went above and beyond to ensure I felt my Dad was cared for. So many wonderful, caring nurses on this admittance - Michelle and Fatima came to mind. I was constantly asking questions and calling to check in. They did everything they could to put me at ease. The CNAs Daniella and Madison were so sweet with my Dad. As someone who is extremely particular about my father's care, I can confidently say that my Dad was in extraordinarily capable, attentive, and caring hands at Alta. We appreciate all of you!! Thank you for everything you did for my family. We hope we won't be back but if there is a need again, I know where we will want to be.

When I went in for my results, the doctor's assistant didn't even know I had already completed the MRI -- she wasn't sure why I was there. I had to explain my back issues all over again, and then she said I needed an X-ray. I told her I came in for my MRI results, and she seemed surprised and asked who referred me. I explained it was the Oxnard office. She then said, "The doctor likes to have both." This left me confused, because my understanding is that an MRI usually provides more than enough detail. On top of that, I had just paid nearly $600 for the MRI. When I asked if my insurance would cover the X-ray, she replied, "They should." My complaint is this: patients need to be informed up front if additional tests are being recommended and whether those tests might require another copay or out-of-pocket costs. It shouldn't just be assumed that insurance will cover it. If the doctor wants both MRI and X-ray, that's fine -- but patients should be given the choice and a clear explanation, especially when significant costs are involved. On top of that, I have been trying to get in touch with the office manager, leaving several voicemails, and still have not received a call back. I think patients should always have the right to seek a second opinion and not just be expected to go along with what one doctor says. Extra tests mean extra money to the office, and we deserve transparency and options before being billed.

I debated deeply about this negative post, but my experience is worth sharing. First, introduction…read more I am a proud first time mom, working professional, Berkeley grad and graduate student. My son has had feeding challenges since he was 6 months old. I frankly noticed it earlier, but since he was bottle fed, his sensory difficulties did not pose a problem until we introduced solids. We sought out ACT as early as 8 months to help address his gagging and food avoidant behaviors. It may have been too early an intervention, I may not have been ready myself... for many reasons, we postponed this intervention until now, when Michael is 17 months and struggling to eat solids only. Today, before our teletherapy session began, a very brash owner took over Michael's therapy session to inform me that we were not demonstrating progress and will therefore be dropped. Shawn takes "great pride" in her practice's ability to "demonstrate progress", and because improvements were not being made, I was told I should seek care elsewhere. A lot of logical reasons were offered. Yes, my parenting approach seeks to validate my child's emotional experience and certainly I can improve on how I inadvertently "reward and punish" my son's picky eating and avoidant behaviors. Sure, Michael would benefit from an in person visit with a practitioner who can teach me how to properly manage Michael's crying tantrums on the high chair. My favorite was the "sincere" feedback this owner felt deeply that should be spoken, now, before even allowing our session to start, with a promise that she was not trying to run my son and I out of her practice. Referrals to the nearest graduate school near me were so sweetly offered. Wondering what patients rights and responsibilities are for this practice. I'm currently wondering what this practitioner's rights and responsibilities for care are. Of course, no health plan intervention or grievance will matter at this point as the practice won't be enrolling with our PPO in a month or so. May this perhaps be considered patient abandonment? Is this ethical care under AOTA or CBOT? I'm guessing the practice owner washed her hands from this by promising referrals. Nice save! Long story short, clearly this is a business. Clearly, this business does not put patients first and clearly this business owner prunes for high quality outcomes, perhaps hoping to improve clinical reputation even if the cost is patient abandonment. Thank you for making me aware of the business dynamics dictating the quality of care my son may have access to. It's too bad that your behavior, or rather your "sincere" yet unexpected intervention, undermines your practice's ability to partner with and empower parents, while also undermining the effectiveness of the therapists you hire. Samantha is wonderful, patient and caring. She could have certainly had a direct conversation with me with exponentially better outcomes. What a lost opportunity for her development. I'm sharing this experience and my review with you all because I'm dissatisfied with what happened today. I'm not looking for resolution because I won't trust my son's care to this practice anymore. This was truly unfortunate.

Long review but this one means a lot to me. Also, way overdue!…read more My son was about to be in middle school. I felt bad that at this age, he was still struggling with a speech impediment. He said his Rs like Ws. River was pronounced as Wivah, Purple was pronounced as Pupple. Schoolmates teased him often. He was evaluated at school but did not qualify for speech therapy. I spoke to his Dr and at that time had an HMO. She referred us to a Speech Therapist in Newbury Park (I lived in Oxnard), but the appointments were early and it was too far of a drive and wasn't conducive with my work schedule. So I asked for another referral and we saw a private speech therapist working out of a doctor's office. After about a month, she informed us she was moving to work at a school full time. The following year I switched to a PPO plan. I randomly picked ACT since it was close to my home. Best choice ever! My son started with two appointments a week, 30 minutes each. This lasted for about 8 months. Then he tapered down to once a week for another few months. His therapy lasted for about a year overall. It was a long time but the results were so worth it. His impediment is completely gone and you would never know he previously had one. He was often insecure about speaking aloud and no longer has this worry. I felt bad for my son seeing him struggle. I cannot thank ACT enough. Their services were extremely helpful and very much appreciated. I am very grateful!

However, there is one issue that kept me from giving a five star. I've had issues calling the office # 805-389-4781. Every time I call from my cell phone, I get an immediate "User busy" message, but calling from my wife's cell phone immediately after works fine, even though we both have the same carrier. This started after my initial calls to the office number about issuance coverage, where a male staff member seemed a bit impatient with me but transferred me to a helpful staff. When I called back the same day to schedule my appointment, I would get the "User busy" message. This continued throughout the day and still happens every time I call from my phone. I always have to use my wife's phone to make an appointment. The internet say's this message is associated to numbers when they have been blocked. I really can't say. Overall, I'm very happy with the therapy itself, but the call issue has been frustrating. I hope they can resolve it soon for better accessibility.
