I recently came in for a spa day, massage and facial. Covid has really kicked my behind and I needed a day for myself. Well the front desk girls were so lovely. This place probably has the best customer service ever. One of the front desk girl was on the phone when I checked in and gestured me that she would be with me in a second and I appreciated that. I sat down until she finished and proceeded to fill out my forms. This was my First time ever at a hand and stone and it won't be my last! My Therapist and Esthetician were very knowledgeable. They both asked what my needs were and they did some great work! I will let everyone know this is a membership based spa and they are very upfront with you.. i have been to other spas and there is always hidden fees. I did sign up because the services and price is great! And I plan to keep coming back. It's very clean, they are following Covid regulations! Which is a plus. It's really unfortunate because the massage therapists I have had have been wonderful, but this business is run incredibly poorly. DO NOT become a member if you have ANY plans to cancel in your lifetime. I have tried for a couple weeks now to cancel my membership. The front desk assistants are LESS than helpful. They are borderline rude. I have been told on four different occasions that the "manager" will get back to me but is not in or not available and that person is the one who has to cancel my membership. Nobody ever calls back. They basically make it impossible to cancel your membership. What started as a good massage has left an incredibly sour taste in my mouth for this business. I HIGHLY warn anybody wanting to become a member. EXTREMELY SHADY!!!! Look elsewhere. read more

This spa is very nice and clean! Felt completely relaxed and comfortable, and the people at the front desk are always nice and friendly. My massage therapist Tiffany is someone I've been going to for years now, and actually canceled my membership at my last spa where I first started going to and went here instead. She definitely provides a great experience and tends the massage to your needs. I can always count on her to get me fixed back up so I can feel good enough to go hurt myself again lol. Booooooo.... Had an appointment a few weeks ago and I still can't get over my disappointing facial. Came in 15 minutes earlier to my appointment, done with paperwork and all that good stuff, just for my esthetician to be 5 minutes late. Sounds dramatic, but we technically didn't start until 10:15 with me getting dressed and the intro conversation. Checked the time and we ended at 10:55. Sooooo, if you're a mathematician, you'd see that my 1 hour facial appointment was really 40 minutes in total. NOT including the upsell conversation I had during my appointment. I got suckered and did the extra hyperdermabrasion or whatever and there was nothing more out of the ordinary than a normal facial elsewhere. I responded to their survey and got $5 off my next appointment that'll probably be over $100, thanks. read more

I LOVE H&S massage locations! I am a member of the one in Grand Rapids, MI but have visited several locations in Florida as well. They are all run very professionally with kind and courteous employees. The massage therapists are wonderful and knowledgeable. Don't get Ali.. she makes weird and uncomfortable sound effects during the massage... asks you extremely personal questions.. then calls herself dorky and silly. I asked her to focus on my neck and she said she doesn't like working on the neck because there's so many veins in there. Spent maybe 5 minutes on my neck. She kept asking me questions like if I felt in my face when she was touching my shoulder or different areas. This had to be one of her first massages because she clearly did not know what she was doing. She also won't let you relax, if you don't answer her question she will ask more. Do yourself a favor and if you want to relax book anyone but Ali. Extremely inappropriate behavior, and no social awareness. read more

Massage and massage therapists were absolutely lovely. Granted they were running 20 minutes behind schedule, but it would have be nice had the receptionist let us know. Just that little bit of courtesy of acknowledgement would have been really appreciated. But the real downer was when my partner came out from his massage and I asked him how the add on peppermint scalp massage was, and he said he didn't get one. The ladies at receptionist quite forcibly exclaimed he did so they would be charging us. It then turned into an unwarranted interrogation as the lady at the front desk said "I can even smell the peppermint from here". I smelt his head, and there was definitely no peppermint. We then did this back and forth and I asked if she could please double check with the therapist who gave him the massage. We were more then happy to pay, just wanted to make sure he received the treatment. But the front desk lady said she wouldn't even know if she could find her....less then 5 minutes after us exiting the treatment rooms...bit far fetched don't you think? So we all just stood there like deers in headlights, in front of an audience of the waiting room. So awkward. She begrudgingly rose from her desk, went through the massage rooms and moments later came back to whisper in the lady's ear at the front desk who has us on hold at the check out "yeh she missed it. He didn't get one." There as so many of these franchises, there's no need or desire to come back to one that doesn't respect their customers. We're still on the hunt for our regular spot!! read more

This place is absolutely amazing. The manager Orianna was extremely helpful and kind. She was able to fit my boyfriend and I in for a massage & facial last minute and made the entire experience seamless and relaxing. The massage was exactly what I asked for & really helped with my back pain. The facial really cleaned out my pores and had me glowing for a while after! I have sensitive skin and this facial really helped control my breakouts. It was all such a great experience. I will be going back. read more

Be careful of this merchant. I have been requesting to cancel my membership since August. Twice I requested a cancellation form, since there is no way online to just cancel. Once I went into the Brick spa and requested cancellation. They actually told me it was completed, but I recieved another charge after that. I called corporate who advised me that I had to meet with a "cancellation" advisor. That call was scheduled for 11:15 this a.m. It is now 13:30 and no call. I have blocked them from charging in the future and asked my credit card company to dispute the transaction. I truly believe this is their way of continuing to get revenue. Just ignore the cancellation requests and keep charging. I'm wondering how many others have been a victim of this scam. read more

About half of the massages I have gotten here are decent. Lots of turnover with staff so I did not have the same person every time. I kept my membership because I had a bunch of gift cards... then covid hit and they continued to charge me while they were closed. I FINALLY got through and they said they would freeze my membership, and asked for how long. I said until the pandemic is over or until I get vaccinated. Then, with NO warning or notice, my card was charged again for 3 months and they refused to credit me back any money. Apparently, they hired a chiropractor so they could open under his license (???). I was never sent a letter about this and I never agreed to the charges. They claim they left me a voice mail, but my cell phone tracks calls and there is no record of any call or message from them. Not a nice way to do business. read more

This was really not a massage that leaves you feeling good. My muscles were a bit in ache before I started so I was really hoping it would relax me a little. I booked a deep tissue massage and feel it was more like physical therapy than a massage. I was stretched more than I was massaged so woke up with lots of soreness. Not the good kind but I appreciate my massage person for spending lots of time on what he felt was important. I am sure he saw I could benefit from other movements which I can appreciate. read more

Hi I'm Mark & "you're in good hands"...haha good one! Yup, that is what my massage therapist told me & he was right. After running a full marathon, it was time to have my muscles relax and loosen up. Let me tell you, as relaxing as it sounds, it was but also very painful because of all that lactic acid build up. Ouch! However, Mark was gentle & totally helped loosen my muscles. The hour went by so fast, I think I fell asleep. The massage was fantastic & it was easy to book online. The room was peaceful & smelled amazing. I don't know if they use essential oils, but whatever it was, it was heavenly and totally calmed me down. After my massage, I felt as if I was floating on air...amazing! The staff are friendly and attentive to your requests or needs. Great place for a massage. I'll have to come back to try their other services. read more

I went to Hand and Stone Costa Mesa to purchase gift cards for myself and my daughter. They had advertised on their website Black Friday special (in store only) buy one gift card, get one free. When I went to buy the gift cards I was told they were not honoring the gift card offer even though it was advertised on their website. They had a different black Friday deal I could purchase. When I asked why the false advertising they blamed it on the corporate office and said they had decided not to honor the corporate gift card offer (yet it was on the Costa Mesa website - which i would assume they manage themselves as a franchisee) I was not given any accommodation, just sorry the owners decided not to honor their advertised special and too bad. I have been in business a long time and have always honored the customer. I was not only appalled they would not honor their advertised special, I felt sorry for the girls at the front desk who got stuck explaining the issue to their customers. I would NEVER give this location my business and I would hope no one else would either. What a horrible way to get introduced to this Hand and Stone location. read more

I booked an appointment for a 60 minute massage here and was really excited and looking forward to it. I've never been to a hand and stone before. My massage was at 10am. When I arrived the girl at the desk informed me that my massage therapist called out and they would not be able to see me. Then she said she had left me a message and wondered if I had received it. Sure enough I checked my messages and she left me a voicemail at 9:34am. I had already left my home. So to think that's enough notice for your customers to cancel seems a little absurd to me. Also they have a policy here that if we as customers cancel same day we have to pay a fee. But if they cancel same day on their customers nothing happens?? Anyways so they rescheduled me for a week later. The day before my appointment they sent me 4 texts confirming my appointment. 4 seems extremely excessive. Then they send me a text the day of reminding me. So 5 texts now. And then they sent me a 6th text saying my massage therapist called out again. LOL. Wow. So if you want to get your phone blown up at weird hours regarding appointments you book and if you would never like to receive a massage because apparently the people who work here must hate their jobs then I would book an appointment ASAP read more

I've been here a couple a times, but today was most recent that I'm reviewing. It's supposed to be 60 minute massage session. They take minutes 5 minutes for before and after massage so should be 50 minutes total which is fine and probably standard. But I was sitting in the waiting room until 3:05. I was out checking out at 3:51. I was screwed out of about 9 minutes of massage time. It's not my fault they are running late. I'll give somewhere else a shot next time. read more

Updated review as of 8/17/2018 I've been a member for a few months. I have had April as my aesthetician and my skin is looking great already. Just a couple things to keep in mind: -in this location, you don't get the same rewards as those advertised on line for handandstone.com. Here they will give you a card, and it would be stamped if you book your next appointment right away. I've never been asked if I want to book or get the card stamped. YOU will have to keep it in mind and get your rewards. -if you are a member you get one massage or facial included with your membership. If you want an upgrade, you'll pay 20,30 or 40 dollars for the upgraded facial BUT you don't have a price reduction. i.e. today the girl made a mistake and I was going to be charged as a regular customer and she said "it's 99.00 for today's microdermabrasion" but then the girl realized I was a member so I only paid the update-price ($40)... but if you do the math: 69.00 plus 40= 109. I get charged more... so be careful with the upgrades. On the other hand, the ladies are good. My skin looks beautiful! read more

Had the worst massage here 2 days ago- waste of money. The gal clearly didn't want to be there. She barely was putting pressure after saying I wanted firm. Then she went to a one handed massage where her hand baring kept doing anything (felt like she was texting with one hand and forgot to keep massaging me with the other). Asked for more pressure- which got a little better. After feeling all my knots in my back I asked for upper body and not a full body. There must of been a misunderstanding because I only got my back massage and not my front which my deltoids greatly need. She would do things to one side and would forget to do it to the other side. She used a lot of elbow and forearm because she seem to be in pain with using her fingers. She also cut me short by 8 min. Walked out extremely disappointed after really needing this massage for back pain and to finally relax. read more

Mark is my regular therapist and he is AMAZING. He has the most soothing, caring demeanor and he actually remembers what we chitchat about during my treatment (he's also cool with being quiet if that's what you prefer). He remembers what my "usual" is, including preferred pressure level. Every time someone I know mentions massages, I get so excited to recommend Mark. I'm ruined for any other therapist. I have a stressful job, and it manifests in knotted muscles. Mark is the only thing keeping me from a medical leave. I tend to get pinched nerves in my shoulder and he helps me stretch, often teaching me a new/better technique. He's so smart and you can really tell he knows and understands the human body. Based on my muscles, he knows what I'm doing wrong and recommends ways to stop wrecking myself. Go. See. Mark. He is wonderful. Re: the facility: Extremely clean, nicely decorated, upscale. The staff are friendly and helpful. I have never had anything to complain about, but I am confident that if I did, they would handle it for me. Highly recommended! read more

Went in for an introductory massage because my doctor recommended it for pain I was having in my lower back. I made an appointment and everyone was very nice. I was told that the introductory 50 minute massage was $70. Upon leaving I was asked to add a tip to the $70. I asked how much was expected, since I had never had a massage before. They said $24 was the norm. I reluctantly said okay, but left feeling uncomfortable with the whole affair. I don't think they were up front about charges. For a first timer I should have been informed about the charges AND the expected tip. read more

My friends recommended this spa to me because they have been coming for years and really enjoy it. It was super easy to make an appointment, they even got me in within the same day! It was my first time ever for a massage and all I can say is WOW!! My therapist listened to me and did Everything I asked. She always made sure I felt comfortable and it was the perfect strength. From the moment I walked in and came out, I felt nothing but total relaxation. The girls at the front desk were very helpful. I was unaware at first of the monthly membership program they offered but the girls were so informative and answered all my questions so how could I not join? It's so affordable and flexible.
