I usually go to Tang 190 (they give u 4 legit bones for the same price) but came here out of convenience tonight for take out since they're closer to us. They decide to give us leftover kbbq rib bone inside the galbi tang along with one actual semi-bone. Not sure if it's cause my husband is white but REALLY? On top of that, the kbbq bone didn't even have meat on it. It looks like they took someone leftover kbbq bone and cooked it in the soup. Highly don't recommend this place, not sure how review is high. Maybe the other dishes are better but definitely don't even think about getting the galbi tang here. read more

Been on a Korean food binge lately and had never tried this place so when I was in the area, I decided to check it out. Customer service and care was EXCELLENT! Staff members were so attentive, warm, and made me feel like a valued customer. There were a steady stream of customers, but the Staff never forgot about us. Restaurant was clean and well organized with lots of seating available. Food was great, but it wasn't the best I've ever had. My only minor complaint was that the TV played random travel clips/pictures, and they had 2 songs (or 2 stations) playing simultaneously which was a bit distracting. Food was good! First time trying cold noodles and they were good, but if I went back I'd maybe ask for less sesame oil in the dish if possible. I also got the beef kimbap which was phenomenal. This place is goooood! Saw it listed on the LF BOGO program and we had to check it out - the photos on Yelp looked great. Its located in the same plaza as Albertson's and the Tesla Super Chargers. Cool to be able to charge and go eat. The place was pretty packed but we were seated immediately and from there, service was spot on, fast and superb. Lots of tables and seating inside. The menu is not too big where you have a hard time choosing what to get! The two of us went with a spicy pork roll, kimchi fried rice, and fried chicken bites. Our meal came with a salad, kimchi, sprouts and a celery salad, everything went perfectly with the meal. The spicy chicken had a more sweet sauce so my BF liked it more than I did but the Spicy Pork Roll - OMG I could not stop eating that. And the Kimchi Fried Rice was amazing. Hah Bop in Lake Forest is a great place for casual Korean eats. I believe it's new on the block, but they've got it together. Place is spotless, and they provide good service. I ordered the spicy pork lunch special - it's a feast, with lots of delicious sides. Korean food is all about different flavors like Spicy, sweet, sour. The spicy pork was absolutely delicious. It was tender, juicy, spicy and went great with all the different sides you get on the dish. Perfect spot for a speedy Korean food- whether you're eating on your own or with a group. Highly recommended and there is a good amount of parking in this area. They do close in between lunch and dinner shifts so plan accordingly. read more

Came here for there to go lunch options. Got their dosirak - Korean version of bento box. Love the variety of main dishes they offer from salmon, spicy pork, bulgogi, pork bossam...etc. and the sides that comes with it are seasoned pretty well. I enjoyed it all and comes with soup. Very fulfilling and one of the better Korean spots in the area. I've taken all my orders to go and they do a great job with packing. This place gets busy during lunch time. Inside eating is about 6-8 tables. It can get a bit noisy due to customers chatting. I recommend coming here for good authentic Korean food in the area. Good Korean food spot for lunch with they are bento boxes. This place does get packed during lunchtime around 12 so we got there for a group of three at 11:30. You get three side dishes for the table, which each had its typical flavor as expected. The lunch Bento boxes ($17.50/$18.50 for the salmon) really did fill you up! The meat portion was big along with a big two big scoops of white rice. You get three pieces of tempura type items, which far case one was a butterfly shrimp, one was a rice noodle Seaweed wrap eggroll, and the last was a dumpling also with rice noodles inside. Yet two pieces of their Hanbop rolls which were just veggie rolls and what I did enjoy was the salad because the dressing was just so flavorful. Was craving kimchi fried rice and this place did not disappoint! We barely finished our meal here and I was already planning for my next kimchi fried rice here. Bulgogi kimbap / beef roll was good/average- nothing too exciting to write home about. Husband enjoyed it though, he says it felt like a good and comforting homemade dish. Don't walk... RUN! This is the type of restaurant you want to gatekeep because it's just so good and comforting. Their soups are the best especially on a cold winter night. Everything we ordered is amazing! I wish I came sooner. Bulgogi, Kimchi Jjigae, Beef Roll, Padak chicken, Ramen (instant ramen but make it fancy with egg). For the Banchan, I'm assuming they purposely kept the flavors basic for the potato salad, kimchi and japchae to highlight their mains and picked celery and jalapeño is the best! I really wanted to love HanBop, I really did... This restaurant had been on my yelp bookmarks for such a long time, and has such great reviews. I love supporting small businesses, so it pains me that I wasn't in love with this restaurant. Walking in, I also had very high expectations because the restaurant was filled with Koreans -- usually the sign of an authentic restaurant. Maybe it was just my dish, maybe it was just the chef that day, maybe my tastebuds were off. But overall, I was disappointed with my lunch during my visit. Hanbop has lunch specials on weekdays, but since it was a cold September day and my throat felt a little scratchy, I opted for one of my favorite Korean dishes -- Galbitang. Galbitang has a mild and delicate flavor, and that's what I love about it. However, the galbitang here was, in my opinion, disappointing. Firstly, my dish came with two short ribs that were mostly bone. Generally when I order this at other restaurants, there is more meat. At $20 for the bowl, I really did expect more protein. Second, the broth was very flavorless. Galbitang usually comes unseasoned when its ordered, and comes with a side of sea salt and pepper. However, without salt and pepper, the broth itself just had no flavor. I felt like the beef bones were not simmered in the broth nearly long enough, or too much water was added. I love the mild and delicate flavors of galbitang unseasoned, but their rendition didn't hit any notes for me. Even after I added salt and pepper to my liking, it unfortunately didn't taste like the galbitang I love. Unfortunately, the next time I crave galbitang I will not be ordering it from Hanbop. The banchan here however was delicious. I loved their kimchi, potato, and bean sprouts, but I really didn't want to enjoy the banchan more than my actual dish. Unfortunately, that was the case. I hope to update my review with a positive rating in the near future, as I do plan on giving this restaurant a second chance. Looking at other people's plates, the lunch specials here look beautifully made, so I'd love to order one soon. I hope that Hanbop can impress me again soon on my next visit. read more

This place is so good! I've ordered takeout plenty of times, but this past Friday was the first time I dined in. What prompted me to write a review is the impeccable service. We were seated immediately and banchan came out before we even finished sitting. My 3-year-old was with me, and they were so kind to him. On separate times, we dropped chopsticks and scissors. I'm so happy that I found this hidden gem! I came here because Lake Forest Animal Clinic around the corner was closed for lunch, so I decided to get lunch as well, and decided to try HanBop. I decided to to try the Galbitang and it did not disappoint me! I loved how my meal came with a side of rice, kimchi, bean sprouts, and I'm not sure what the third side was, but it was delicious! This was a perfect portion for me. The service was fast and the waiter was very nice to me. He asked if I had questions about anything and was always smiling. I highly recommend coming in for lunch and I can imagine this place being busy for dinner. There is also a lunch hour menu, which I will try next time. A very new KOREAN street food restaurant with arrays of traditional dishes like GalBi Combo with NangMyeon and street food like Dduckboki GimBop Ramen. They also offer Japanese Style lunch dishes like deep fried vegetables and steamed rice with Beef Short Ribs and Bulgogi Lunch Special, Dweji Bulgogi Spicy Pork Lunch Special. Since I don't like special Bento meals, I ordered SsamBop with Bossam, Medium for $44, cold NangMyeon for $18 and egg casserole $7, GimBop for $11.50. They were all decent but not delicious. The egg casserole was cooked with too much water and intense heat and all water separated from the egg making it pretty gross. We poured out half cup of water! The NangMyeon was so sweet and noodles were soggy and too soft. Overall a mediocre four stars. Must try their BoSsam-cabbage wrap boiled thick bacon. It's their best! read more

Was excited to try this place based on the good reviews. Went there early Saturday evening, it was pretty slow and quiet with only a few customers. First thing we noticed as soon as we entered was a strange and unpleasant odor. But we didn't let that stop us. Service was attentive and we quickly placed our order: seafood pancake, spicy pork bulgogi, kimchi fried rice with spam. At first glance, the seafood pancake looked promising. Good size and crispy. But that's where it ends. It was more like a green onion or scallion pancake as there wasn't any visible seafood at all nor did I tasted anything remotely seafood. It was accompanied by a dipping sauce. Both the pancake and dipping sauce were bland. Also, they're quite stingy with the dipping sauce - all we got was almost like one tablespoon of it. The spicy pork bulgogi had some flavors to it but the meat portion was less than what I've seen from other restaurants. Also the quality of meat used was poor. We got a lot of tough and chewy ligaments. Portion, flavor and quality wise, I get more from the Korean food court stalls at H Mart. As for the Kimchi fried rice, it's okay. Not bad but nothing to get excited about. The kimchi fried rice from Chan Chan is still way better for us. On a hot day like today - it seems like they don't have the air condition turned on. It was hot inside the restaurant. And I think this may be a factor to the strange and unpleasant odor. It's that stale and musty air because there's no circulation. Lastly, my partner told me that the restroom was also filthy. Sad to say, we won't be coming back. I hope they work on improving things. read more

The most authentic Korean restaurant in Lake Forest. The food is very filling, comforting, and savory. My friend and I got Kimchi Jiggae, Tteokboki, and Popcorn chicken. Both the kimchi jiggae and tteokboki had the perfect amount of spice where it wasn't too overpowering so the flavors were still popping. The texture and flavor were amazing. The popcorn chicken was crunchy, sweet, and really tender. She loved it and would order again! The seating area is modern ad welcoming. It is very clean and well kept as well. I love Umma's bbq for their quick takeout plates and banchan, but I'm so glad there's another restaurant that offers a wider variety of Korean food. We had the padak (fried chicken), galbi (marinated short rib) plate (came with rice), and the owners even brought out a complimentary plate of kimbap, which we really appreciated. Every dish was super tasty and had high quality ingredients. You get a choice of ice water or hot tea when you first sit down, and the hot tea warmed me up on a cold rainy night. Great new addition to the Lake Forest area. Came here for a weekday lunch and tried their bulgogi lunch special and a side of crispy popcorn chicken (complimentary with Yelp check-in) and they both exceeded my expectations! The popcorn chicken was hot, crispy, coated in a sweet and spicy sauce, and really juicy. I would definitely order a full size version of this next time. The bulgogi itself was flavorful and so tender. I especially enjoyed the variety of side dishes in the bento box. The standout for me was the kabocha tempura- super crunchy and not a bit oily.
