Clean fast and efficient service. The food tasted clean and the service was fast. Ordered the cold noodle with pork belly combo and was very satisfied. The kalbi short ribs lunch was enjoyed as well! Love the purple rice!
Had a lovely meal at Hanbop - so many amazing and delicious options! Our eyes were definitely bigger than our stomachs, we didn't realize how much food we were getting!!! We ordered a beef hanbop roll, Bulgogi, steamed egg, and kimchi fried rice! Each item was very flavorful and plenty for sharing! Plus, you also get Banchan (kimchi, pickles and celery) to start and a yummy broth /soup! The Bulgogi was our favorite and we didn't realize it came with forbidden rice which was also quite good! The restaurant is unassuming and very clean and the staff was kind. I will absolutely be back!
Mom and pop Korean restaurant in Lake Forest. Good serving and good flavors. First time having pickled celery stalk as a banchan. Good service and there's plenty of parking.
It's been a while since my last visit to Hanbop, and after my recent visit, I now want to go more regularly! I was able to go in during lunch to get the lunch special price. The price has gone up since I last posted a picture of the menu but I think that it is still SUCH a steal for the amount of food and quality. I ordered the beef short rib lunch special and was amazed by how much food arrived! The preview pic on the menu did not do the actual meal size justice. I was surprised by the amount of short rib pieces included as well as the variety of side dishes within the bento (fried shrimp, dumpling, some sort of fried roll, 2 pieces of another roll, 2 pieces fried chicken and soup). This is still separate from the regular banchan they provide! I really love their kimchi and potato salad. There are plenty of seats in the restaurant and parking spots in the plaza. There were a lot of solo diners at the time of my visit. The workers are friendly and quick with your order and refills. Can't wait to go back!
So disappointed! I wanted to like this place because it's one of the few places who have hwedupbap (sashimi salad with rice) around me. It is supposed to be served with assorted sashimi and it only came with tuna. Server and kitchen should have said that tuna was the only fish they had so I could order something else. I told the server and she just said sorry. The salad was in big chunks so I had to cut it with my spoon. Lol for $20 I should have went somewhere else. I could see why the restaurant was empty. Server was nice and attentive.
I have been on a Bibimbop eating streak of late...You must try this place in Lake Forest if you like Bibimbop. No need to go all the way to Irvine. It's situated in the same shopping center as Albertson's. The banchan (side dishes) served was delicious & just enough but you can always ask for more. Your bibimbop is served with small side of soup. It's filling. Will definitely be returning!
Found this hole-in-the-wall spot and I was thoroughly impressed. It's one of the better local restaurants in this area when you're craving Asian food but don't want to make the drive to Irvine or Garden Grove. I also love that it's a local mom and pop shop. Always great to support small businesses. The restaurant itself was very clean and surprisingly spacious inside, which I really appreciated. Food Kapop A light crispy Korean fried chicken covered in a sweet chili sauce. The chicken itself was very crispy and well cooked, but the sauce was a little overly sweet for my taste. Still very decent overall. Galbi Very good. Nice char on the meat and it fell right off the bone. It actually reminded me a bit of Hawaiian style galbi. Soondubu tofu soup Solid. Comparable to some places that specialize in tofu soup. Banchan Okay. Probably my least favorite part of the meal. I usually prefer stronger pickled or gochugaru flavors, but I can't complain since it came with the meal. Purple rice Loved it. I've always been a fan of Korean purple rice and this place did it really well. The rice was nicely flavored and cooked perfectly. Please come support local businesses !
I wanted something healthier, lighter, and nutritionally balanced without it being a salad and found just what I needed from HanBop. I was in no mood of cooking on a crappy rainy day before Christmas. The lunch boxes were beautifully packaged and presented. It was such a feast too! I ordered the grilled salmon, bossam, and spicy pork lunch boxes. Each boxes came standard with the delicious soup, purple rice, and different varieties of pickled vegetables. Some contained fried gyoza and others had salad as accompaniments. The bossam came with enough toppings to wrap the clean tasting pork. Loved it. Can't believe each boxes were less than $19/box for the amount of food it arrived with. Such a steal given how filling everything was and fun to try little bits of everything. Lastly, the service was friendly and efficient during the pickup process. The inside of the restaurant was brightly lit, clean, and spacious. Parking was free and available right in front of the restaurant which was perfect for the rainy weather.
Authentic Korean restaurant in Lake Forest area. I give this place a high score in term of food quality, consistency, flavors and fast service. Its a small restaurant , very clean inside. My favorite dishes are tofu soup, cold noodle!!, kim chi fried rice. What I love about here is that they have purple rice ( not regular white rice like other tofu soup place). The flavors always stay the same doesnt matter how many time I go here. 5/5!
Love love this neighborhood Korean restaurant. Small restaurant tucked in the Albertsons Plaza. I especially love their weekday lunch special. A combination of different textures of food and each one is so delightful. They give you purple rice, a choice of meat, cones with a few different banchan, sald, soup and appetizers like tempura shrimp, fried seaweed roll & dumpling. The price is between $15 and up. I was able to split my bento box for 2 meals. So happy this is nearby.
I have gotten takeout and dined in here. Plenty of space and quick service. Parking was ample. Two words: Lunch Set! That's where it's at. It has a little (but a lot) of everything. Meats, banchan, rice, soup, salad. Perfect balance. You can mix and match your bite to your liking. I've gotten the spicy pork and kalbi here. The meats here are seasoned perfectly and cooked well. Spicy pork has enough spice for it to still be enjoyable. A surprising banchan you don't normally see or get at other restaurants is the pickled celery. What a nice crunch! Will def come back!
Saturday afternoon. Lots of parking. No wait. Ordered the egg roll and shared the galbeejjim (medium size) for two - which was PLENTY. Their banchan is SO GOOD. Everything was super tasty and came out quick. Very clean and beautiful restaurant. Friendly and attentive staff. Til next time!
Best DoorDash locally! We love Their lunch sets!!!! Eating in is good as well. They provided good attentive service!
Reviews are largely positive. People highlight the authentic Korean flavors, generous portions, and clean, welcoming atmosphere.

Came in on a whim. Apparently this cozy gem has been open for 3 years but I have missed it! Whew. I will not make this same mistake. Highly recommend. Warm and welcoming atmosphere. Absolute best bbq short ribs I have had in years. LA Ktown quality as in GOOD. ha! Lunch was not crowded (but they should be considering the great food). The pickled garlic with the lunch special was a particular fave. Yum. I will be back and bring my wife. Great job! read more
We've been exploring the Lake Forest area more as they have a wide range of Asian food at a reasonable price you can't find around Mission Viejo. Hubby has a list of places to try and we made our way here to Hanbop. The menu boasts a wide range of categories from main entrees, special entrees, lunch specials, Korean street foods, Hanbop Rolls and side orders. Our first visit included the Mul Naengmyeon Combo with Kalbi, Padak and Egg Roll. The cold noodles were garnished with cucumbers, pickled radish, and hard boiled egg. They offer to cut the noodles and provide vinegar and mustard to season the broth if you choose. Super refreshing on a hot summer day and an exceptional pairing with the grilled kalbi. Hubby got the egg roll gimbap and padak as his meal. The padak is fried chicken seasoned with a sweet soy sauce and shredded green onions. The egg roll looks like an omelet with a cut of spam and pickled radish. Very simple meal and his go-to meal every visit. On our second visit, I gave their dolpan bibimbap a try since I was craving that crispy rice crust from their sizzling hot skillet. I chose the octopus as the protein, but I was pretty disappointed by the texture and flavor. The bibimbap was stacked with shredded carrots, zucchini, mushrooms, beansprouts and egg yolk. After mixing in the sauce and letting the rice sit, it was a little too greasy/oily for my preference and didn't get the scorched rice I was anticipating. As it gets cooler, I think I'll give their soondubu and galbitang a try. Can't wait to go back. read more

I'm a native Korean, and today I experienced one of the finest bossam (Korean boiled pork) dishes I've ever had (the best in Irvine/Lake Forest area for sure!) The pork was exceptionally clean-tasting, free from any odor, with a tender yet springy texture and deep, nutty flavor. The seasoned radish and dipping sauce complemented the meat perfectly, enhancing its overall balance and depth. While the serving initially appeared modest, the medium portion was more than enough to satisfy three adults comfortably. It was a To-Go order, and the packaging was very neat and professional. Courteous and friendly staff were another plus! For anyone seeking an authentic and expertly prepared bossam, this is a place I can definitely recommend! read more

The restaurant has a straightforward aesthetic. When we went it was not too busy. We picked out sitting and went ahead and ordered both cold noodle soups. I felt like the price and the amount of food were aligned. My wife and I thought in retrospect we would have order 1 combo cold noodle soup and a roll since we were both very full afterwards! The food was fantastic. I really really enjoyed. It tasted very authentic. Overall I would 100% come back. read more
We were on our way back home from southern California and decided to make a quick pit stop for some lunch. We just walked around the plaza and decided on this spot because Korean sounded good. The service was quick and the staff were extremely nice! The food was awesome and it tasted very homey! If I'm ever in the area, I'd come back here again and I recommend giving this spot a try read more

Excellent service. The food was quick and great for lunch. The food was tasty and all of the kimchi and Bonchon was delicious. We went about 40 minutes before close and there was a nice ambiance with subtle music. read more
One of the best deals for lunch in Lake Forest. I've been here a few times and the quality of the food has been consistent. The lunch special comes with the sides (varies but kimchi is always on there), rice, soup, salad, shrimp tempura, a potsticker, another fried item, 2 veggie sushi roll, and 2 sweet and sour chicken item that is served cold. It's a lot of food for $20. Everything tastes excellent. Service is decent, although every time I've been there they have been understaffed so sometimes can be a bit slow, especially since it's so popular at lunch. Dining area is very open and always clean. read more

Their lunch set menu is perfect for the indecisive because you get some of everything: a main, rice, soup, salad, fried things, 2pc kimbap and some of their fried popcorn chicken. Everything is flavorful and feels healthy, even the fried dumpling and gimmari, because it's not greasy and quite light. The soup is heavy on the white pepper, which is my style. The kimbap is fresh and that's such a flex these days because more often than not, I find restaurants even specializing in kimbap to serve refrigerated kimbap, making the rice hard and unpleasant to eat. But not here. They would never. Service is also fast and reliable. The interior is the light wood that modern Korean restaurants typically have, with relaxing travel b-roll videos playing on the TV that my parents love to watch. This is where I come to when I'm craving nourishing healthy flavorful Korean food that has that nice balance of homemade with restaurant quality. read more

So happy to find a Korean restaurant for a quick fix in lake forest! This place is better than Irvine places in my opinion. Came for an early dinner on Friday. Got the nengmyun Kalbi combo and it was delicious! The galbi portion was generous for a combo and actually was meaty!! Unlike other places where it's mostly fat. Their banchan were so good too! Tasted like home food . Definitely coming back! read more

While visiting my mom and looking for a place to eat I found this place. They had steamed egg which was the criteria we were working with for a Korean place so it was exciting! Hanbop is a good sized restaurant the likes of which I would find in K-Town in LA so already I was certain this was going to be good. Easy menu, comfort foods and street food takes all really decently priced. Deciding to be adventurous we decided to share a Rose Ddeok-Boki and an Egg Kimbap and have our own steamed eggs. Starting with the familiar, the steamed egg was a listed as a side dish and though small don't mistake that this was tiny in flavor. Seasoned well, little salty, very eggy but with that satisfying taste of a savory dish twice its size. This is always a favorite and didn't disappoint in a new restaurant. The Rose Ddeok-bokki is a dish I've always wanted to try but was always nervous about. Honestly I wish I had tried it sooner but I'm so glad we tried it today. Sweet, savory, and mild thickness in broth (sauce?) made for a delectable base both comforting and addicting. The rice cakes were cooked perfectly through and while not a favorite for my mom in the past was something she now could get behind, and the fish cakes was her first introduction and one she'll be happy to have more of in the future. This was a perfect comfort food to share dish. Lastly the Egg Kimbap (Egg roll on the menu), normally comes with spam, however our server was kind enough to take the spam out since mom's a vegetarian. This had everything a good Kimbap should, rice and crunchy veg and the soft sweet egg that tasted like a cold thin version of our steamed egg dishes. Happily would order this again and I would recommend for any vegetarians wanting to try to remember to just ask if they can take the spam out. The Banchan was perhaps the only meh part of the entire meal, the kimchi was lacking something most others I've had, had. Not sure what it was but it was just missing something. And the potato salad was bland in comparison to the dishes we had, and lacked corn but that's a personal favorite for me. That said my mom loved the pickled celery and jalapeño, spicy but that crunchy celery freshness was an addicting starter for her and she liked the blandness of the potato salad as it served as a palate cleanser between bites. Still, the service was outstanding, prompt and kind and ready to answer questions or accommodate and the restaurant was clean, modern and spaced out (a personal preference) with comfortable seating. And parking is a breeze with how many spaces there are. Happily I would come back again! read more

Food. Ordered Yuk gae jang. Spicy beef soup. It was disappointing. Literally no beef and soooo much onions. I am korean i know it has onions but not Only onions. There was no noodles or evn other vegetables it should have. They threw in a few mushrooms but this soup shouldn't have mushroom. The broth tasted like a powder mix. Super dissappointing. Service : great. The lady was super friendly. She tried to help. But when the soup first came out it was luke warm, not spicy and had handful of onions. It was missing everything. She quickly came and saw what was wrong. So she took it back right away. When it came back it was muuuch fuller. But again it was like a huuge bowl of onions. No meat. No noodles no root vegetables. Tasted spicier but like they added more pre-packed spicy mix. Ambiance: very clean. Has charming korean style metal bowls. Served with korea. Barely tea. Huge space for large parties. Thus place service was nice but i think it may be better for lunch bento style lunches. The soups are not good. You feel sad and unsatisfied when you leave. But service is nice so maybe i will try again but the lunch bento style meals. It seems that is popular saw many to go deliveries for them come and go 3 star for service 1star for spicy beef soup aka yuk gae jang read more
Visited a new place that my friend recommended! There was plenty of parking and lots of space inside. They were quick to seat us. I loved that they gave us both cool water and warm water off the bat. The kimchi fried rice was so yummy! I loved the kimchi in it. Perfect balance of everything. We also got the Mul Naengmyeon Combo: cold noodles and bossam. It was my first time trying bossam and I loved it! I wish we got more cabbage to match the amount of pork, but still good. The cold noodles were really refreshing and a great balance to the kimchi fried rice. Overall, a great experience and can't wait to visit again! read more
We came here on a Monday afternoon and it was pretty busy - always a good sign! Service was also fast, friendly, and attentive. We tried the Padak, Bossam, and Kimchi Jjigae, plus a few extra helpings of banchan. Everything was pretty good! The padak had great flavor, texture, and mouthfeel. Probably my favorite. Very crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. And the garnish was actually really good too when eaten with the meat - yum! The kimchi jjigae was yummy too - not as spicy and more salty than I've tried in the past, but it went great with rice. I love seeing it still boiling as it was placed on the table. Another very good dish, but I'll probably try other dishes next time. The bossam was a close second for me. The meat alone was delicious and super easy to eat. But on top of the greens and radish? Absolutely wonderful. I'd get that again! I'll definitely be coming back! read more
Rare find! Bomb Korean food south of Irvine? That's basically unheard of... until we tried this place. AYCE Korean food hasn't been our thing for a while so places like these really gets us excited! Reminds me of a mom & pop version of BCD tofu house. First of all, this place is spotless. I love how they put this place together, very clean and minimalist. Decent sized dining area ranging from booths to smaller tables for two. Very easy to navigate menu. Per usual, I ordered way too much for two people. Banchan was great (fish cake, pickled celery & onions, kimchi, and potato salad). The beef bulgogi was served in a sizzling plate (so good!) it came with rice on the side. We ordered kimchi fried rice (choice of pork or spam) this was okay. The beef hanbop roll was delicious. We also enjoyed their padak (popcorn chicken) which came with a side of broth (so good!) This is your spot for Korean street food that won't break the bank. Ramen, ddeok-bokki, padak (popcorn chicken), mandu, and hanbop rolls from $9 to $15. We'll slowly work our way down the list and try them all. Since our first time here, we've recommended this to so many family and friends that have come to eat here and gave the same feedback. Excellent service, amazing food, very very reasonable pricing. I hope they stay. See you here! read more

I've gotten take out from here a couple times and they always get the order right. I really like the packaging they use. This place is actually really nice and clean looking inside. I want to sit down and eat here one day. For my most recent order I got the dumpling soup. It stayed hot and came with banchan. The dumplings were delicious and filled with beef, noodles and greens. The broth was clear and savory. I really liked the dumpling wrap as it was soft and thin. The banchan was a great addition. I especially loved the fishcakes and kimchi. I love this place and I hope to eat inside the restaurant next time instead of getting take out. read more
Food is great here. Everything that I tried from the tofu soup to the lunch specials were good. The presentation for the lunch special is unbeatable. It comes in a beautiful bento box. We were looking for Korean food and ended up ordering take out from here and couldn't have been happier. Even the packaging showed care. The Grab N Go was perfect for sharing (2 people), with lots of meat. The Galbeejjim isn't cheap, but the meat perfectly fell off the bone and tasted great. The Kimchee Jeon and Steamed Egg were great inexpensive side additions. Definitely check this place out if you're looking for Korean in the area. read more

We were pleasantly surprised in our experience at this local Korean restaurant in Lake Forest. The service stood out to us, the staff came to our table multiple times to check how we were doing, and one time I had just turned my head and the lady came over quickly to ask if we needed something, that is outstanding service! It was not busy, but not crowded, just right, when we came in on a Thursday at around 12pm. The lunch menu is priced slightly less than the regular menu so you should go for that if you want to have Korean BBQ for lunch, though we also tried the salmon which was also excellent. The seating is comfortable, not loud at all, in fact, it's the opposite of loud. There was some quiet Korean music playing in the background, and it added to the peaceful feel of the restaurant. Food was excellent, it's not the best Korean BBQ we've had but still good. And the lunch set comes with a large variety of items that is actually fun to try all of the different things, including the fried shrimp, dumpling, fried noodles, and of course the appetizers, which they refilled for us. That would be another thing to note, there's other Korean restaurant around Irvine, such as a place we've been to on Culver, which refused to refill the Banchan (small appetizers), that seemed very unlike most Korean places I've been, but Hanbop even asked us to refill which I greatly appreciated. The delicious hot tea and cold water on the table was also a nice touch. Prices are similar to other Korean restaurants, possibly even less expensive if you order off the lunch menu. Great experience overall, definitely will look forward to coming back. read more

Y'all need to go give this place a try. A fantastic place for traditional Korean eats, we have enjoyed every single thing we had tried here. Beef bulgogi and spicy pork hanbop rolls are delicious, fresh and light with nice combination of textures with eat bite. Kimchi jjigae has a nice rich broth, and is my personal favorite. Ddeok-Bokki is a classic, and there are two options for sauces (original spicy chili or creamy rose). We weren't too fond of the creamy rose option, reminded us of an Italian vodka sauce, so the spicy chili sauce is the go to (could me more spicy in my opinion). Notable mentions go to the steamed egg, kimchi jeon, and padak. Love all of the side dishes that come along with the meal as well! People are nice, service is good, but if they are really busy, just be patient. read more

Down in the area of South OC where we live, there is not a lot of Korean food available. I love going to Irvine, but when you have a big family, sometimes waiting forever to get a table is just out of the question. There is Umma's which has great to-go options with huge portion sizes and delicious sides, but nothing like a BCD, AYCE KBBQ, or other sit down restaurants. So imagine how happy I was to find, Hanbop, close to home. Hanbop's décor is airy as well as nice and simple. The staff quickly greeted and sat us at our table, where we were met with multiple banchans. Everyone was very friendly and attentive to ensure full glasses of water and banchan at all times. What we ordered: 1) Dumpling soup - generous amount of dumplings with a tasty broth. 2)Kalbi - a must for this family. As expected it was quite delicious. 3)Bossam - small portion which is good for two people in my opinion. I'm totally not complaining because I got to eat it again the next day. This came with all of it's own sides such as the Chinese cabbage, garlic, jalapenos, rice and two other items I don't know the name of. They're red and I am guessing one of them is a sauce. 4)Gimbap which is the veggie version of Kimbap. 5)Banchans - these were obviously free since they're banchans. One was a salad with a dressing, fish cake, celery with onion/jalapeno in a soy sauce, kimchi, bean sprouts and I forgot what the white jello looking banchan was. I loved the celery one so much that I now make it home and eat it all the time. Would I come back? ABSOLUTELY YES! I miss it already and can't wait to go again. I sure hope that more people dine with them. I don't want to lose this restaurant in our area. Hanbop, I am a huge fan! read more

There aren't many Korean spots in South Orange County, but after today, HanBop just might become my go-to. HanBop had been on my list for a while... but they hooked me at "kimchi fried rice." (I'm a sucker for a delicious bowl of kimchi fried rice. It truly is a comfort food for me.) Store front - https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=O6EBodP3Fgu_n67efSKnBQ&select=Bhy665P0eExZKH9SqamT_Q From the moment I walked in, I was warmly greeted and promptly seated. I already knew what I wanted: spicy pork and, of course, that kimchi fried rice! The service was quick, and my food arrived within 15 minutes, hot and fresh. HanBop's menu offers great value, especially for lunch. With few Korean restaurants nearby, HanBop is a standout choice, and I'm excited to have found a new go-to spot for satisfying Korean comfort food. I arrived just before 2 p.m., and aside from a small group finishing their lunch, the place was nice and quiet. The atmosphere is relaxed, and the restaurant is well-lit, making it a comfortable spot for a casual lunch or dinner. I ordered the Spicy Pork Lunch Special ($17.50), which came with white rice, a light soup, salad, and a variety of banchan (side dishes). The spicy pork was tender, flavorful, and had just the right kick. For the price, the portion size was generous, and the assortment of sides made it a well-rounded meal. We heard some hype about a newer Korean restaurant opening in Lake Forest, so of course we had to go check it out. Located in a shopping center at the intersection of Lake Forest Drive and Muirlands Blvd, Hanbop offers their customers "classic dishes as well as creative and playful dishes that we have conceptualized while keeping fresh and seasonal ingredients in mind." It's usually a good sign when you walk into an ethnic restaurant and see the local patrons dining there. The customers were diverse when we dined there, but we did see a few Korean families. I'm not the biggest fan of Naengmyeon because of its chewiness, so I only ordered it because I wasn't feeling anything else on the menu and because my wife already ordered the Galbitang. My saving grace was that I was at least able to combo it with Kalbi. The banchan and kalbi tasted as you would expect them to and not surprisingly the naengmyeon was chewy. Best part of the meal was how tender the beef short ribs were in the Galbitang. It was a little disappointing that there was only one individual servicing all the tables in the restaurant, so we only got a single refill of our banchan. We may come back in the future and try different menu items so I can re-evaluate. read more
