Tofu salad sounds simple but the sauce is packed with flavor. Definitely mix the tofu, sauce and greens together before eating.
Jonathan Y.

Finally found a Korean restaurant close to where we live in Laguna Niguel . Sometimes we want good Korean food but just don't have the energy to drive all the way out to Irvine or Garden Grove, so I'm really glad we found Han Sikdang. We came in after a long exhausting day when nobody wanted to cook. My son was also feeling a little sick and warm, so honestly all we wanted was some good old fashioned Korean comfort food and a place where we could just sit down and relax. The staff was so kind and welcoming and the whole restaurant had that warm comfortable feeling we needed that night. One of the emo's serving us noticed my son wasn't really eating and brought out a small bowl of traditional Korean radish soup for him. The kind of simple soup Korean kids grow up eating when they're not feeling well. That was SO sweet of her. Just the kind of TLC we needed . Little things like that really stick with you. The menu is pretty simple, which I actually liked. We've been trying to watch our budget and haven't gone out to eat much lately, but I'm really glad we came because their limited-time K-BBQ combo was an INSANE deal. We got so much food for the 4 of us for one price. Honestly, feeding four people at McDonald's can cost more sometimes lol. One thing we REALLY appreciated was that they actually give you sangchu for lettuce wraps and a huge portion of pa-jeori, the seasoned green onion salad. Pa-jeori is my wife's favorite and both of these are surprisingly hard to find at a lot of Korean restaurants these days. Not only did they serve it, their recipe was delicious and they didn't give you some tiny little side dish portion either. And the grilled garlic... insanely good . Usually we're sitting there grilling garlic ourselves forever, but theirs came already grilled perfectly charred and was amazingly potent. Beef, rice, pa-jeori, grilled garlic and ssamjang wrapped in lettuce... that's pretty much all I need. One thing worth mentioning because not all kalbi is the same -- the short rib here is 갈비살 (galbisal), not LA galbi. Galbisal is boneless beef from around the rib/short-rib area, so you're getting pieces of actual rib meat without the little cross-cut bones you see in LA galbi. LA galbi is the flanken-style short rib that's cut across the bones and is usually soaked in that familiar sweet soy-based Korean marinade. This galbisal seemed intentionally not heavily marinated, and we were actually REALLY happy about that. For once we weren't eating sugar-laden, overly sweet kalbi where the marinade completely takes over the meat. The galbisal was cooked perfectly, super tender with just the right amount of fat, and you could actually taste the quality of the beef. Once you add their ssamjang, grilled garlic, pa-jeori and kimchi, it makes complete sense why you wouldn't want a sugary marinade fighting with all those flavors. Their ssamjang was on point too. My daughter loves soondubu jjigae and luckily the spicy tofu soup was included with the combo. It came to the table still bubbling and was loaded with soft tofu, thin sliced beef, enoki mushrooms and vegetables. She loved it. We also tried the dduk skewers half and half. I was honestly skeptical because it sounded a little too new-Korean-trendy-ish for me but we were SOLD. The sweet one with honey, cinnamon and crunchy nuts was amazing. Just make sure you mix everything around really well so you don't get too much cinnamon in one bite lol. The spicy version wasn't really that spicy and had a little sweetness to it too. It was perfect for my daughter and she loved it. Both almost felt like sweet little appetizer/dessert snacks. The tofu salad also sounds plain when you read it on the menu, but don't sleep on it. The sauce has a TON of flavor. Just make sure you mix the tofu, sauce and salad greens together really well because that's where the dish comes together. Generous portions, comforting Korean food, really kind people, and prices that actually felt reasonable for feeding a family. More importantly, it felt like the kind of Korean restaurant we were hoping to find close to home. I have a feeling we're going to be back very soon.

First time stopping in and I tried the Bulgogi Bowl. It had just the right amount of food for me, and everything was very tasty and freshly made. The beef and onion had great flavor, topped with roasted garlic that really added to the dish. It came with a little kimchi on the side, some lettuce, and a few slices of radish. My only suggestion would be to make the radish in-house rather than using the standard store-bought kind. I think that small touch would really elevate the dish. I'd definitely get the bowl again. The service was great, and I also had a carafe of cold barley tea, which was excellent and really hit the spot on a hot day. If you're looking for a Korean place in the area, I'd recommend giving this casual eatery a try!

Spicy Tofu Soup MEAL

So happy to have a spot like this in South OC. It's a cute family-owned restaurant with genuinely friendly service, and the whole place feels very authentic. It's fast-casual, but everything was clean, the food came out quickly, and everyone was incredibly welcoming. We tried the bulgogi bowl, soft tofu soup, the muscat grape lemonade, and the pomegranate lemonade. The grape lemonade was such a fun surprise--it uses Asian muscat grape instead of the artificial "American grape" flavor we're used to. It's a rare flavor to find and was honestly so refreshing. Both lemonades came out beautifully presented with fresh fruit, which was a really nice touch. The soft tofu soup was excellent. The broth had a rich, silky mouthfeel and tasted homemade rather than like it was made from one of the premade soup bases. It was deeply flavorful without being overwhelming. Everything was served piping hot, exactly as these dishes should be. The bulgogi bowl was also delicious and came with a very generous portion of beef. Serving sizes overall were huge--both of us ate until we were full and still had enough leftovers to take home. Prices were very reasonable, especially considering the quality and portion sizes. If you've been wanting to try Korean food but weren't sure where to start, I think this is a fantastic introduction. Authentic flavors, generous portions, friendly people, and a great value. We'll definitely be back.

I have to say this place is Korea in Aliso Viejo! Mr Han the owner was so welcoming and kind and the food is legit! Shikhae: didn't have rice in it but the flavor was amazing! No unpleasant aftertaste. Meat and wraps: great! The roasted garlic was bomb. Soondubu: great! It was filled with so much stuff. Tteokbpkki: amazing! It's the soupy kind~ perfectly cooked! Bingsoo: unconventional but surprisingly really yummy! Not the typical bingsoo you would expect but something I'd get again because it was the perfect refreshingly sweet treat after the Korean meal! Ice cream: so rich and thick!! Really cute and matcha was my favorite!

Kalbi + brisket combo set for two

This little mom and pop restaurant is located in the same plaza as the Regal movie theatre in Aliso Viejo and serves legitimately good Korean food. I love their Kalbi set which is plenty of food for my husband and me to share. We have tried the combo set with unmarinated brisket + Kalbi and thought the Kalbi was perfectly tender and tastefully seasoned, but the brisket was a bit tough and chewy. The second time, we ordered the combo set with Kalbi + bulgogi and we loved it so much that we went back a third time and ordered the same thing and loved it the third time as well. The bulgogi was tender and flavorful and went well with the lettuce and tasty ssamjang (thick chili/bean paste dipping sauce). The soft tofu it comes with was also a welcome part of the meal and all of the banchan side dishes were also excellent. Some Korean restaurants serve banchan dishes that are all cloyingly sweet, but at Nasung, all of the banchans are fresh, well balanced, savory, and pair perfectly with everything else. This BBQ set really is a great value and feels like a symphony of flavors that come together perfectly into one well orchestrated meal for two. We haven't tried the other dishes, though I want to try... but that combo Kalbi set keeps calling to me and I can never resist.

Donkasu Bowl Lunch Special
Bailey J.

What incredible food, prices, and service. We were immediately greeted and offered to sit anywhere we liked. He brought us menus and highlighted their deals and specials. We thought the $18 lunch special sounded like a good value already, to say nothing of how surprised we were by the HUGE portions that came out. We got 2 meals out of it, so for less than $10 a meal, this is an amazing value. I got the Donkasu bowl, my husband got Tteokbokki. Everything was perfect. Their kimchi is super sauced up, which I love, but it could be a lot spicier, which is truly my only complaint about our whole meal. You can add a drink for $2.50 to your meal. We got Danang Coffee and it was delicious. If we are ever in Aliso Viejo again we'd love to return.

This place definitely EXCEEDS my expectations. Donkasu gets a FIVE Stars in all five categories: Ambiance, Service, Presentation, Taste, and Price. Ambiance -- The seating is light and there were quite a few people, but we got a space. The eating are is clean. The walls have nice decorations on them. The lighting is bright and nice. The store branding is well done. Service -- I got here 30 minutes before they closed and they still let us order! The owner of the restaurant was our waiter. He was SUPER nice and helped us to order to our preferences. He offered to give us extra sides when we asked for it and he really cared for his customers. We ordered dessert 30 min AFTER their closing time and they still accepted it! Presentation -- The food looked tasty right when it arrived, and the portions were decent. I ordered the K-BBQ Combo and the meat plate looked beautiful. There were the perfect types and amounts of sides and the green tea was really genuine. Taste -- The K-BBQ Combo included Short Ribs, a choice of Brisket or Bulgogi, spicy tofu soup, 2 rice bowls, green onion salad, a lettuce wrap, and a variety of additional condiments. All the food tasted really good and the salt level was perfect. Price -- The prices were really affordable for high quality food. I love how they have an option for an unlimited iced green tea jug for only $4! The K-BBQ Combo can be shared between 2 people and it was $65. The fried chicken bowl was $15. The spicy tofu soup was $12.5. The lunch special also has good prices with additional drinks for only $2.5 (Monday to Friday from 11 AM to 4 PM). Overall, I will definitely come back to eat here again when I get a chance!

Donkasu plate and spicy tofu soup

Delicious, excellent service, speedy and fresh. They have a great selection of Korean meals that are good for sharing or individual consumption. Ordered their donkasu plate and their spicy tofu soup and everything was so flavorful! Next time we plan on trying their KBBQ combo. This place is honestly a great bang for the buck. Portions are very sizable and well worth the money. Only thing is that this place is quite small so it fills up quickly!

We came back after they changed the name. Food is still very tasty, and the service is excellent. Highly recommended!

This restaurant is worth the 5*. Amazing food and service!!! I love that there is an option of large jar of green tea unlimited refills for the group for only $4. There are so many options in variety of food. I got the fried chicken bowl sub salad. The rest of the family got the soup with fried chicken appetizer. And they also got the combo of soup with beef bulgogi and short rib. The food was refreshing. To top it off, we got their homemade matcha green tea ice cream and chocolate ice cream. It was cute and delicious! They also have lunch specials at great prices and the drinks are reasonably priced. It is in a large shopping plaza with plenty of parking. I will definitely recommend and come here again.

My wife and I recently walked over from our neighborhood and decided to give this place a try, and we're glad we did. I ordered the Fried Chicken Bowl, and it was exactly what I was hoping for. The chicken was crispy, tender, and surprisingly reminded me of calamari in the way it ate, light and not overly heavy. What really stood out was how restrained they were with the sauces. There was just enough teriyaki and sesame mayo to add flavor without drowning the chicken. Too many places overpower a dish with sauce, but here the flavor of the chicken still came through. The portion size was perfect for us. We enjoyed a satisfying meal without feeling stuffed afterward, which made the walk home just as enjoyable as the walk there. The restaurant itself was very clean. As someone who always checks the restroom before ordering, I can say the cleanliness passed my test. The dining area was spotless, and the overall atmosphere was welcoming and comfortable. We sat outside with our dog, which made for a great evening. The patio is dog-friendly, the staff was fast and friendly, and they brought out refreshing lemon water that really hit the spot after our walk. With music playing outside and attentive service, it created a relaxed and enjoyable experience. One reason I'm taking the time to write this review is because restaurants in this area seem to come and go quickly. This is one of those places I'd hate to see disappear. The food is excellent, the service is great, the restaurant is clean, and it's the kind of neighborhood spot worth supporting. We'll definitely be back.

I can't believe that I have live in this area and I didn't realize this hidden gem existed. My girlfriend and I are Korean food connoisseurs and they definitely don't miss any marks. Great food, portions at an excellent price. Very friendly staff by the way. Will be coming back.

Donkasu Bowl

Service is always fast, which makes this an easy pickup, casual spot. Ordered the Donkasu Rice Bowl and the pork katsu was lightly fried and impressively stayed crispy even after a 10-minute car ride. The plate came with fresh radish and kimchi, which added a nice balance to the richness of the katsu. The rice was fluffy and topped with a fragrant, savory soy sauce drizzle, which really enhanced the dish. The katsu sauce was perfectly tangy and creamy, nothing like I've ever had before, but it tied everything together perfectly. Overall, a super reliable spot for quality donkatsu that travels well. Definitely will be one of my go-to places in the area!

It's a little different from the more traditional cold soba with a standard dipping sauce. Instead, you dip the soba into a warm, savory broth with duck, and that's exactly what makes it so memorable for us. Neither of us are normally huge fans of duck, but we are obsessed with it here. The broth is incredibly flavorful, and paired with their soba, it's amazing. We haven't found anything else quite like it nearby. We also really enjoy their tempura. The breading is light and crispy, and it pairs perfectly with the soba. Another thing we love is that you can get free refills of the soba noodles, and they definitely don't skimp on the refill portions either. Our most recent visit was especially memorable because of our server, Patty, who was incredibly kind and made an already great experience even better. Definitely have to give a shoutout to her! Overall, we absolutely love Soba Izakaya Minami and always look forward to coming back. The Duck Dipping Soba alone keeps this in our regular rotation and is something I'd definitely recommend trying.

The ambience is very Japanese and the waiters are dressed in traditional Japanese-wear. The food comes out pretty quick and everything is clean. When I came in with my husband, we heard a lot of Japanese speaking customers so this place is legit legit.

We made a reservation for eight people including a toddler and an infant and were never told we would be seated outside in 87 degree heat. When we asked about it the hostess got defensive and told us we hadn't specified inside or outside. We're traveling and have never been here. Sorry but customers shouldn't have to know they need to specify that. Honestly it felt like that interaction set the tone for how our table was treated from the start. Water took ages and cocktails took even longer. No one checked on us, cleared the table or offered another round. An hour in we had to ask about the drinks, and out of our being politeness we didn't ask about the food. Trying to give benefit of doubt, again. The kids food was the last to come out Restaurant 101. Feed the tiny customers first, keep ALL customers outside the table even, happy. My entire meal was a five wing starter that had clearly been forgotten. Instead of just admitting it and apologizing we were told they were coming. They finally arrived as everyone else was finishing so my starter was quite literally the finisher. Then the check came and we waited another 20 minutes for someone to come back so we could actually pay and leave. The food was average but the service made the entire experience not worth it. Plenty of franchises do customer service far better, so I'd suggest people check out BJs or Cheesecake Factory even a ruby's would have been better. Sometimes customer service can be taught. Sometimes apparently it can't be. Won't be back. Hope this helps.
