    chocolate bars

One of the friendliest family owned business on the island. Having talked to the owners, they were incredibly passionate and proud of their process and products. The trees surrounding the driveway were all cacao trees and we were fortunate enough to catch them during a harvest. All of the cacao pods in the truck went towards only 1 ounce of chocolate! They used all of the parts of the cacao plant in their products: the pulp went towards their honey like spread, shells towards their tea, and butter towards their balms and candles. They made their various chocolates in batches so they don't always have all of their possible flavors. Their best seller was the dark chocolate with sea salt but the mandarin orange and coconut ones were also popular. Personally the chocolate needed more flavor from the secondary ingredient as the darkness of the chocolate overwhelmed any taste of the sea salt. My favorite purchase was the chocolate scented candle as it smelled accurate and indulgent. There were various factoids and history tidbits throughout the porch stand if you wanted additional background on their process. We watched the son make chocolate and the procedure appeared tedious. Definitely a fun destination to learn about chocolate making and I would bring back one of their lesser common products as a memento. Just not the biggest fan of their chocolate but the candle will be cherished.

Must stop! Right off the main road. They offer free parking and an interactive experience. From the shop you can see and smell the chocolate being made. They have photos of the process. The staff is friendly and willing to discuss their family operations. For sale they have a variety of chocolate bars and merchandise. About 10' from the store you can see cacao growing on the trees. Cool experience!

The chocolate was extremely good. The lady who makes it was kind and explained how it's made. We couldn't make up our mind on some stuff and she let us try some and was very generous. It's expensive when compared to normal store chocolate, but this stuff was worth buying and trying.

This was such a wholesome stop on our Road to Hana trip. The family grows their own cacao and makes chocolate bars, body scrubs, lotions, and candles. They are even willing to show their process of making chocolate bars. I tried the 51% milk chocolate bar and it tasted rich!

Cute chocolate store. Branch to bar.

This was such a wonderful stop on our road to Hana tour. A real chocolate plantation in the middle of the rainforest. The owner was clearly very passionate about her farm and the process of harvesting the fruit and turning it into delectable chocolate. I need to repeat, the chocolate is outstanding. We bought two bars and cocoa nibs and they were fresh and packaged that day itself. We also saw the cocoa fruit and lillikoi fruit blooming on the trees. A must visit stop for chocolate lovers. Hawaii might be the only place in the US with the right climate and soil conditions for the cacao tree to thrive. They don't even need to use any artificial fertilizers as the volcanic soil is already so rich with nutrients.

It was interesting to see how chocolate is made and the guy was really friendly. The price was a bit steep and the chocolate taste was a little less exciting than expected.

I am a chocolate lover and I am so appreciative of the work they put here. I won't see chocolate the same ever again. Fresh, organic local ingredients. Family owned and friendly staff. Give them a visit if you are in Maui.

    The cacao plant/pods of amazingness!

We seen a little sign for chocolate when driving the road to Hana and decided to check it out. What a great decision it was! We were met by a lovely lady oozing with cacao knowledge and mmmm fresh made that day samples! We got to taste not only chocolate but a jelly made from the fruit of the plant which was beyond incredible and tasted almost like honey. The experience of eating chocolate made right there from plants grown on the property was neat in itself and I'd say a stop that everyone traveling the road to Hana must make!

Our tour guide, Brett, was fantastic--knowledgeable, kind, and incredibly passionate about organic farming and growing the most delicious fruit. The tasting experience was incredible. We sampled the most delicious papaya, mango, pomelo, mountain apples, and several other tropical fruits--many of which we had never tried before. Every bite was fresh, vibrant, and packed with flavor. It was not only a treat for the taste buds but also very educational. We left with a much deeper appreciation for the land and the dedication it takes to grow organic produce in harmony with nature. We also took a box of fruit with us to enjoy during the rest of our trip, which kept the experience going for days afterward. If you're headed down the Road to Hana, make sure to stop here. It's more than a tour--it's an experience. We would absolutely go again!

We got to try out papaya, bilimbi, caviar lime, pomelo, sweetsop, durian and so much more! The drive was gorgeous, as always, and Nick is a fantastic guide. We took our 9 year old, and she absolutely loved it. The tour was never tedious or boring for her, and is one of the highlights of her trip. Nick packed us up with fruit to leave with, and we shared it with friends on the beach as part of Thanksgiving. What a hit! Everyone was so amazed by the variety and quality of the fruit, even nearby beach goers stopped by to ask where we got it from. I think Ono will be on the itinerary for many people in the future after that beach outing. The tour is also great for people with limited mobility since most of it is on a golf cart. If you're on a multi-generational vacation here, this is definitely something both young, old and in the middle will enjoy. Also, a review from our child, "I like Ono farms because I got to taste each and every fruit that was in season. It's better than video games. I like the fruit they send us home with. I've been eating it all day, every day since. Thank you!"

I took my parents for their 44th Anniversary and we all love outdoorsy activities so I knew we'd all enjoy this! We were asked to arrive at 10:30 am for the tour and it lasted until 1-1:30 pm. Arrive with good walking shoes, SPF, light sweater and hat (it can get either a little chilly or hot from the direct sunlight), and well hydrated if possible. We were greeted by our friendly and knowledgeable tourguide, Kate from Maryland! She shared with us so many facts about the locally grown produce from herbs, vegetables, fruits, to the friendly worms, to compost and facts about the Farm and the hardworking staff! It was interactive because we got to sniff the herbs, taste the locally grown lettuce, carry a chicken (as seen in the photo with my mom), and even pick the Cherry coffee! After the 2 hour tour, the last hour takes you back to this beautiful seating area in a garden like setting for your 4 course lunch! Each course, the chef comes out and shares details of each course. First course was a Medley of Greens grown on the farm with Tangerine vinaigrette. It was a generous portion for our party of 3 and tried to eat it throughout. There was spiraled carrots and radish with julienned snap peas. Second course was Pan Seared Ono (their proteins are all locally sourced) with Mamaki Tea and Lemongrass Rice with Bok Choy, Collared Greens and Cabbage. Third course was my favorite! I'm usually a big fan of fish but the chicken was so savory and that rub was delish! It was an Organic, Cage Free Chicken with Coffee Cherry Citrus rub with Caramelized Coffee Honey Hash of Carrots, Parsnips, Rutabaga and Celery Root. The spread was a Turmeric and Parsnip puree. Last course of dessert was the O'o Freshly Brewed Coffee with Milk and Simple Syrup with a Dessert Platter of Fresh sliced Pineapple, Tangerine and Apple with Homemade Chocolate Truffles. The meal left us full and nourished! What a wonderful anniversary gift to give my parents. We truly enjoyed it and even made some new friends, both local and visiting.

While we ultimately had too many people to make that work, we knew from our first visit that we wanted this special property, and the wonderful people who steward it, to be part of our nuptial celebration. We ended up hosting our rehearsal dinner here in September 2022 and, my friends, it was absolutely magical. The property itself is stunning, with a gorgeous tree canopy and colorful blooms everywhere. There are plenty of great places for a golden hour photoshoot, which we took full advantage of! They waited patiently for us to finish our photos then ushered us to our tables, which were beautiful decorated with 'olena flowers from their garden. There were so many beautiful, special touches that went above and beyond our expectations. For example, when we arrived Chef Erika adorned my husband and I with ti leaf leis they had made for us. As we sat down for dinner Chef Erika gave a Hawaiian blessing and thanked the land for providing such a bounty for us to enjoy. The food, oh my goodness the food... it was SO GOOD!! I love that they source as much as possible from their own property and from other local farmers and ranchers. Everything was so fresh and prepared beautifully. Plus, they were able to accommodate my nephew's very severe nut and dairy allergy without any issues, which we all really appreciated. They let us bring our own wine for a very reasonable corkage fee and the bottle service was gracious and timely, with never an empty glass. They also nailed the timing of the dinner, we never felt rushed nor was there too much time between courses. It was just perfect! Everyone in our party was totally blown away. They were expecting the typical rehearsal dinner at a restaurant or something and this overdelivered in the best possible way. It felt so intimate and private, just what we wanted. We all still talk about what an amazing night it was. Jesse, Madeline, and Chef Erika were such wonderful hosts, and they were great to communicate with before the event via email too. The team here truly embodies the aloha spirit. We are so very grateful for the experience they curated for us on our special night. I highly recommend Starseed Ranch for any special occasion gathering you might be hosting!! Their property, their team, their food, their aloha, is second to none.
