09.07.22 convenience store and they also sell "I survived Hana Highway" shirts (w/ their store logo)

Far from Waikiki [Hana Maui HI] This is Hana's local and historic general store. Nothing fancy but, to me, historic in remote Hana. We purchased some snacks and drinks here before heading out to our scheduled reservation time slot at the Waiānapanapa State Park. Don't expect a Safeway or Albertson's supermarket. The convenience store has maybe 4 or 5 small aisles and offered a little bit of everything from OTC meds to hardware and auto supplies to produce and cold items. I also bought a souvenir shirt. They have a nice section on the back wall of "I survived Hana Highway" novelty tees (w/ their store logo). Most of the tees were too colorful and flashy for me but I did find one to my liking -- one color LoL! After you make the "Road to Hana" experience stop by and check it out. So glad we were able to stop in. Review #2711

Found some unique items that weren't found in the store across the street but I found many missing here too. Hasegawa was cleaner than the Hana store but they were completely out of frozen goods. Everything was empty except for a couple tubs of ice cream. There was minimal produce with only mushrooms, lettuce and oranges filling the shelves. Alcohol leaned towards wines as opposed to hard liquor. There were distinct items such as t-shirts, sandals, and fishing gear. There were Asian instant noodles and condiments along side common instant items. This store was best for storage as most purchases could be reheated or rehydrated in the future. We bought gallons of purified water as other stores only had bottled or distilled water. The green produce here was quite fresh and I would pair it with some meat products from across the street. We picked up some instant noodles here and we'll return for water in the future. By combining items here with those from Hana market, you pretty much have your basic necessities.

The Hasegawa General Store is a general grocery store selling everything from packaged food items, hardware, fishing gear, and souvenirs. It has been a staple of the Hana town since 1910, running by the family's fourth generation.

Grocery/hardware/convenience store all in one. Small town country store. Fun to explore in.

If you want to find the worlds best coffee and customer service - COME HERE. Made a wise decision in getting an Airbnb walking distance from this gem of a general store that goes down in history. My boyfriend and I enjoyed supporting all the local spots on the island, and especially in Hana town. Chips, juice, wine, beer, liquor, chocolate, ice cream, even simple souvenirs to bring back home (bought the cutest surfboard shaped cheese board) and the comfiest sandals. But our absolute favorite purchase from this spot was their coffee! They had a couple of different options but we had to take home the Hana Blend Mac Nut. Oh my goodness! The smell alone is delicious. Reasonably priced and always in stock. We were greeted by Don several times and really enjoyed the small talk. Even from California, we continue to support their general store by purchasing numerous bags of coffee because we can't seem to forget the smell and taste of that yummy coffee! I had the pleasure of connecting with Willie today and reminded how kind and helpful everyone there is. We appreciate you! Mah

I been to the FAMOUS Hasegawa General Store just once in my life (back in 2010), and in 2019 I finally made my return to Hana town. Of course anytime you go to Hana, you just gotta drop by the famous Hasegawa General Store! Did ya folks know that there was a song about the Hasegawa General Store???? Check this link out to hear the song.......... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4Qqh8ZV-QQ As you listen to this song, it represents much simpler times in da 808............. When one is in Hana, I believe that there are only 2 stores - 1. The Hasegawa General Store 2. The Hana Ranch Store That's it gang, if you can't find what you need at either general store, then you're basically outta luck, & need to drive back into town somewhere to get what you're looking for. The Hasegawa General Store basically carries a little of this & that..................food items, drinks & snacks, items that you wouldn't think they have, but of course they have it! And the most important thing....... souvenirs to take home to loved ones. Anytime you come to a place like this, garans ball barrens you will experience old time ALOHA from the friendly staff of the Hasegawa General Store! While walking around in the store, I came across some pretty cool t-shirts and decided to pick up a few to take home. Surprisingly, I felt the prices of the t-shirts were pretty reasonable, considering that this store is in the boondocks! Also while taking some photos within the store, my super akamai (smart) Yelp buddy - Lyla D. pointed out to me that some of the produce items were labeled with both Hawaiian, & English names on the items. Pretty cool yeah? Yes, the Hasegawa General store is "Far from Waikiki!"....................... No doubt my friends, and although it's about a 48 mile drive from Paia, to Hana..........it will still take you over 2+ hours to get Hana due to the narrow winding roads, and 1 car bridges. Be careful when driving out to Hana, as I could see some people having a difficult time navigating the roads due to the narrowness of the roads. In fact, while I was driving out to Hana, I actually saw a brand new Camaro (rental car) that slid off the side of the road, and fell into a ditch. Poor folks will probably need a tow truck to get that car pulled out. Aiyah! Anyways, if you ever get a chance to visit Hana, it's totally worth it to see, as Hana is a small peaceful sleepy town. And of course, when in Hana.......................make sure to take the time to visit da Hasegawa General Store! :D

Whatever you do, don't ask for directions. You'd think I was asking for her to donate a kidney. Very unfriendly.

I'm sad to say that on our most recent trip, that the store has now been closed. I believe they have new owners. I hope they change their mind and are able to reopen this special place, as it has fond memories for me and I believe the store has been there since 1925. Mahalo!

Well, I found one in the most remote part of Maui...and it's worth a stop even to pet the sleepy cat on the front step. Once you hit the Seven Sacred Pools, you can either retrace your drive on the Hana Highway, or throw caution to the wind and take the road less traveled - Highway 31 which takes you on the dry, windy southeastern part of Maui. No waterfalls but often breathtaking views of waves crashing on the rocks below. The challenge is that most of the road is not paved, so you become the human bobblehead for quite a bit of the ride. Unless you did neck workouts at the gym before you left, it can get exhausting, so a moment of respite may be in order since there are so few places to stop along this route. The Kaupo Store is a throwback in time, a wooden structure that would have looked appropriate on "Petticoat Junction" if the folksy sitcom was set in Hawaii. Inside is a general store full of eccentric memorabilia, antique clocks and bottles, and some pretty dusty-looking food on the shelves. You're not likely going to be in the mood to shop for dried goods at this point of the trip. You'll be there to get some ice cream or a beer, or use the outhouse in the back from all the kidney-jiggling you experienced. What's pretty funny is that they keep all their cold stuff in two old refrigerators, so it's like you're at home when you pull out the Haagen-Daaz coffee-and-almond ice cream bar. Except they charge $3.40 for it there. But frankly you'll be so grateful to find the store in the middle of nowhere. And the girl at the counter is a delight.
