    From Hana Tropicals, Maui Hawai'i

When in Maui, Hana Tropicals is a must. The staff there are so friendly (Hi Katie). I ordered 2 orchids and had them shipped back to NYC for a really good price. I LOVE orchids and this place was orchid heaven! A few months after I got home, my orchid got a little sick. I emailed HT with pics and asked for advice. They responded promptly and helped me resolve the issue. I also bought a jar of passion fruit jam and banana butter which I am using sparingly because I want it to last, its that delicious!. I will absolutely visit Hana Tropocals again.

Found the owners to be delightful and they have a labyrinth and fountain garden. Fun walking around and seeing the jungle and flowers and learning about orchids. delightful people to visit with and know they are happy to have you there.

Neat place to stop on the road to Hana. Good prices and big place to walk around. Enjoyed our orchid purchase.

Since learning more about the farm, I have been using the moringa soap as my facial cleanser--totally organic and nourishing; love it.

Not like a garden you walk through with different plants and flowers. They have lots of things, though. There was a yoga session happening in the middle lawn area. They have a butterfly area, even though the butterflies were somewhere else. There is an aging tortoise, I forget his name. There are also different businesses in the buildings, like a spa and a salon. There are different small vendors with their booths and several food trucks; although, some were not open in the morning and the Thai food truck had all their items sold out on their menu already. The prices were even more pricier than the food trucks at Maui Food Trucks. One vendor had hand crafted desserts for $20/piece! I admired from afar, haha. Everything is advertised as "farm to table" maybe justifying their prices. We shared an acai bowl and it was mid. The the peanut butter was just scraped on the side of the bowl. Our typical acai bowls at least put the peanut/almond butter in the middle like any other topping so you can get an even bite with everything. But the dallop of peanut butter just on the side, it was like we ordered peanut butter on the side of our acai bowl. It was weird. I bet it's more alive at night with more food trucks open and live music. We came and saw and didn't come back. I can see how it can be great for families with toddlers running around, giving them a safe space to burn their energy. Until then, this probably won't be the top of our list.

The area is lush with lots of plants and there a many vendors along the path where you can pick up a souvenir or gift to take home with you. The trucks offer a lot of different dishes to experience, my favorite being the one that sold Hawaiian plates, e.g. Kalua Pork and mac. It's a great place to stop by, relax and chill after a hard day of adventures. Surrounding parking is easy and plentiful. The area to the back of the lots has lots of parking space.

"Yo, dude. Wanna buy some plants, brah?!" Now, picture in your mind the type of person you'd…read moreimagine saying this very phrase, and you pretty much have the guy who works here. One of the many interesting stops along the Road to Hana, Nahiku Tropicals is a rather non-descript flower shop/nursery that might not attract the attention of many passersby (if you see the smoothie shack, you've gone too far!), but is certainly worth a stop if you are not in a hurry. I learned about it through the highly recommended "Road to Hana" app (http://is.gd/2AeP0), and can safely say that I likely would not have dropped by had it not been mentioned as part of the audio tour. Since I was a bit short on souvenirs on my last day in Maui, I figured a quick pitstop would be in order. Once you see the tiny sign for Nahiku Tropicals, there is a very long and narrow dirt driveway that you must traverse before ultimately reaching what appears to be more of a slightly run down Hawaiian style cabin than an actual nursery. The initial ascent is a bit harrowing, as you have no idea how long the path is, or where it even leads for that matter. Once you reach the house, complete with a garage full of rusted old tools, it doesn't necessarily ease your mind. The fact that there were no customers on the day of our visit didn't help matters, but we decided to mosey on in anyhow. The arrows tell you to pass through the old garage into the back area, where all the plants supposedly are. The favorite Yelper was a bit unsure, but heck, since we were already there, there was no turning back! Once inside, you will find a "scenic path" that is little more than what you'd see in some peoples' backyards, along with a somewhat ramshackle greenhouse that is perhaps 1/3 full at most. If you are expecting to find something cool and exotic, you may be disappointed. Most of the items in the small collection can easily be purchased at any random shop on the Mainland. If you are more interested in finding something kitschy with a bit of a backstory to bring back home, this might be your ticket. Also, they do ship to the Mainland US for free, since it might be difficult to pass through customs. After a few minutes of perusing, the aforementioned employee finally made an appearance, and despite his expected loopiness, was actually a really cool dude. I ended up just getting a simple $5 air plant in a conch shell that I could have easily found back in the Bay, but I suppose the "Hawaii" sticker is what made it all worthwhile. The entire time, I couldn't help but think. Of course, I'm not trying to imply anything here, but one must wonder what they are REALLY growing back there. They surely aren't making much of a profit peddling this piddly amount of simple plants! Hmm... In closing, don't visit Nahiku Tropicals to necessarily find cool and exotic flowers, but do check it out as one of the interesting, kitschy spots along the Road to Hana.

Offered me bananas ripening on the vine and a self-guided tour of the wandering paths throughout the property. Seemed like more of a ...?commune? ...maybe than a plant shop, but so what! So cool!
