My next stop in the restaurant hopping adventure ended up in a Nepalese restaurant. I thought I would give it a try though the ambience of the restaurant was terrible. With most of the restaurants in the area looking similar or the other ones being closed at this time we decided to give this a shot. We ordered fried rice, chicken momo's and vegetable momos. The fried rice was good however the vegetable and the chicken Momos could have been better. The menu options were limited and we went with the ones we had ordered plus a mango lassi. This is a Nepalese place where I tried the chicken thali. It was okay - the other people in the restaurant were eating momos, so it appears that is the popular choice here. However, I wanted to have something I'd never had before. The thali is a served on a round metal plate and comes with a bunch of little portions of various items. The one here consisted of: dal (a lentil stew), achaar (pickles), khursani (fresh chili peppers), nibua (lime), saag (mustard greens), a couple slices of cucumber, some curried potatoes, a yogurt chutney, stewed beans, and the chicken. In the midlde is a generous portion of bhat (rice). It was nice to sample a few different things, but anyone who has eaten South Asian food before will find it all familiar. The food is completely fresh either. The seating area is on the second floor, but I could still heard them downstairs microwaving all the various things for me. I'm not sure why Yelp thinks it's closed, but I'm sure it's not helping this place's already-suffering business. Go and support them if you can! There are not many places you can try momos made of buffalo, so I came and tried it. It's different. Not at all what I imagined. It was juicy, flavorful, but it had a very odd taste in general...definitely an acquired taste. I'm so glad that I tried it, but there are pieces of cartilage so eat slowly. I do agree with Susan N. that the wrappers for the momos are definitely handmade and super thin which was a nice touch. As I went into the cafe, I was lost, since I wasn't sure how to order or if there was more space to sit and eat the momos. I wanted to know if I could eat in, and with limited English, they let me know that I can place my order and they would bring it upstairs. Their mango lassi was not bad. It had more yogurt, less mango juice. So I walked upstairs, and I was completely surrounded by pictures of their homeland. The food was served on styrofoam, and it felt kind of "hole in the wall." When I wanted to order more things, it was not easy to get a waiter/waitress which made me rethink visiting again when I'm real hungry. Stay away. Came here and got a goat dish. They told me the price was $12 and nothing on their menu is that expensive. When they brought the dish they brought 2 bottles of water and we thought it came with it since we didn't order any water. They then charged $2 for the water. This is a hole on the wall place and should not be that expensive . I learned my lesson and will not be coming back. Food did not stand out nor is worth what are trying to charge. I have had great mono, and this sir, is not great momo. This is a product, that while made on site, doesn't live up to the great tradition of meat pressed inside dough that can be enjoyed from Kathmandu to the Mustang Valley. And well, this is just ordinary. Certainly the setting seems authentic enough. The woman behind the counter is Nepali, as the clientele on both floors of this Nepali cafe. There are small children born in this country and men who came over here to give them a better life. I wish they had told them to make better food. The sauce on offer is really good. It comes, as is standard, in ketchup and mustard squirt bottles. The sauces are red (hot) and yellow (more of a balanced flavor). My order of mono, which came out of the microwave after an interminable 20 minute, was dry, and the green sauce that came with it did not taste like much. Outstanding! O how I love dumplings! I have tried them all - dumplings, shumai, potstickers, perogi, ravioli, manti, yum, yum, yum. But what is this you say? Tibetan dumplings with a funny name? Momos? Why have I never tried these before? So after reading a great little article on Serious Eats by Sara Markel-Gonzalez reviewing several places in Queens to get Momos, I promptly drove to Queens to, eh-hem, visit Mom, and to get some MOMOS for MOM! And so started my MOMO crawl on a fine, chilly Sunday afternoon on Tibetan Row in Jackson Heights, Queens. I visited Tashi Delek Momo Dumpling Palace, Lali Guras, Bhim's Cafe, and Potala cart...all around the block from each other, and a very easy MOMO crawl indeed. Conveniently, they are located right off the 7 train (74th Street, Broadway stop). All four stops on the MOMO crawl had very different dumplings. All four places sold 8 for $5, even if the menu said it was more. I enjoyed Bhim's the most. The place is small. There are big windows to the street, and a lot of natural light. I only noticed 1 table and chair, so expect to take-out. They have the thinnest wrappers, perfectly pleated. They are a half-moon shape. To me they tasted homemade, whereas most of the other places tasted frozen. I love thin wrapper dumplings, but denser, chewier wrappers are good too in their own way. These are impossibly thin at Bhim's. I think they are made with flour and water, whereas the ones at the other three stops have added yeast or baking soda to make them doughy. What sets them apart, other than the thin wrappers, is the taste - a mild curry taste. Surprising, and delicious. To dip the MOMOs, I was not given get soy-ginger-vinegar sauce, as you do with Chinese dumplings. I was given a spicy red sauce (which I did not like at all, even though I like spicy. It was too oily. I think Sambal Olek would be rocking with these, though!). I was also given a yellow sauce. At Bhim's, I could taste a mild spice- I think it was turmeric. I loved the yellow sauce at Bhim's the most. At Bhim's they offer chicken, beef, and veggie. I tried the chicken. It was $5 for 8, even though the menu says $5.99 with a bottle of water. The young lady put the MOMOs in some unusual steaming appliance to cook them. They were friendliest at this this stop. They were slow, but not the slowest of the four stops. As I waited, I couldn't help but notice some really interesting offerings in trays under the glass. But I was here for MOMOs, and could not be deterred from my mission. Next time. I LOVED the MOMOs here and would make a beeline here next time. read more

I'd heard the momos here were superb but never thought to go in cause at first glance I didn't see any seating. The tables are upstairs (all 5-6) of them. The thalis (rice, lentil, veggie and meat platter) were decent but the momos are to die for. They are seriously the juciest momos I've had in any restaurant, here or Nepal. Service was fast..we kept on ordering plates after plates of momos cause our mouths wanted more and they would bring them outs in matter of minutes. read more

One of the best place for the jhol momo and snacks. They do serve Thalis which I saw people loving it but I have never tried that so cannot review on it. The only down side is they only serve few vegetarian options and no beef. I am not so fond of only chicken menu so I guess it's a hit place for chicken lovers out there. read more

If I close my eyes and eat a momo from Bhim's Cafe, I briefly forget that I am in North America, halfway across the world from Nepal. These momos are fabulous and remind me of the momos in Kathmandu. And the sauces for the momos... I could drink the whole bottle without batting an eye. Seriously. They are THAT good. Mo:Mo: (Dumplings) are great and so is the green sauce that comes with it. Be careful of the red sauce though, it's really spicy. Try "Samayabaji" which is beaten rice with lamb liver, bbqed chicken, radish or cucumber pickle, potato steamed Nepali style and dried soya beans marinated in Nepali spices. It's one of my fav. The owner lady is also super nice, once I was there and the restaurant was busy but she went an extra mile and made me a green sauce the way I liked. read more

Why would you want to go there? For momos (dumplings). Easily the best in NYC area, and is proven by me and my friends (Nepalis) going there from Jersey just for the momos couple of times in a year. I can say that it is the best place for momos for at least 10 of us. The momos being cheap is an additional bonus. I would not recommend you to have anything else though! read more

ZERO star restaurant. STAY AWAY!!! We bought food from this restaurant as take out on Friday night and didn't realize till we got home that all of the food was completely spoiled. It was so disgusting we spit it out on the first taste. The aloo achar was rancid. The 10 pieces of shel roti were rock hard and inedible. When we went back with the spoiled food to complain, the staff first tried to blame it on someone else saying that he doesn't make the food, it's the "Mexican" guy who makes the food. I corrected him that HE was the one who served the food and regardless of who made the food he shouldn't be selling OLD, spoiled food. Then later he said it was a hot day and their food sits outside all day, so it must have gone bad! As for the shel roti, it must have been a few days old. The owner acknowledged that the food had gone bad and it was wrong for his staff to serve food that was spoiled, and refunded us. However this is a unhygienic and unsafe place to eat, and completely ridiculous way to run a restaurant! read more

I have been here on numerous occasions for both eat-in and take out. The momos are pre-made and frozen which is disappointing because I prefer my momos to be made fresh. Anyway, they steam the pre-made momos on per order basis and its 8 pieces for $6 dollars which includes a bottle of ice cold water. Since the new management took over sometime in 2010, the momo sauce has improved significantly but people with mild taste buds, I say "Beware". I ordered a chicken chowmein once but that was before the new management took over and it "SUCKED". I could not comment on it now because I never dared ordered it again. They do not serve alcohol but I have seen other people bring in their own. While some people like the momos here other's prefer "Laliguras" which is just around the corner. I think you need to try both these places and form your own preference. I personally like them both because while I feel the sauce is better at "Bhim's" I like the fact that momo is made fresh at "Laliguras". read more
