California Closets - Cranston

I called California Closets a few weeks ago regarding a closet system that was installed in a…read morenursing home for a friend about 10 years ago. One of the runners for the drawers was broken and she wasn't able to put the drawer back in. I thought it was a long shot that they would be able to replace it but I called anyway. I spoke to Mary who actually remembered the installation and arranged to have someone come out and repair. Free of charge. I thought the customer service department in this company is great. Not too mention the functionality of the product!

I am writing this from a homeowner perspective. If you have a small apartment or tiny living area…read moremaybe this place will work for you. We were looking to redesign our bedroom and create a walk in closet. Having custom woodwork is obviously an expensive way to go so we wanted to look into some alternatives. The store seemed a bit cluttered for a store that specializes in organization. They had several functioning floor models showing a variety of space saving and space creating options. There were also several catalogs showing the 10,000 options and versions of their space solutions. However, for a closet store, there seemed to be a plethora of 'beautiful people' in this catalog. It seems they are trying to sell a lifestyle that will make you thinner and more popular rather than somewhere to hang your clothes out of site from visitors. The in-store secretary was knowledgeable and helpful. She herself seemed to have bathed that day but the pajama style pants she was wearing were going on a few days of wear and grime. I am guessing she was relying on the amount of cleavage she was showing to distract anyone from her dirty clothes. While some of the options seemed very practical, the material was cheap. I felt like my choices boiled down to what colour of veneered press-board I wanted. We set an appointment to have a 'consultant' come out and look at our space and provide a custom solution. The consultation was free....and that is where it ended. The estimate for the design was laughable. It was going to be more expensive than our kitchen remodel. The whole issue turned out to be a non-starter and we easily moved on to other options.....which at this point we don't have any but that is still better than going this route. Again, other than the price, this may be perfect for a college student or people in need of space utilization solutions.

Being pleased with the $$$ quote ... I scheduled a go-ahead for Spring 2019. Larry & Jesse, the two painters who came to my home were thoughtful & professional!!! (They put up with my mischievous cat too! ) The prep work was thorough; cleaned the walls, patched, sanded & then painted. THE ROOMS LOOK SPECTACULAR; fresh & clean!! I am so HAPPY !! THANKS GUYS!!!

The lead painter had 6 yrs, and the guys working with him didn't speak English and were very inexperienced. Besides the estimator, communication was lacking, never did what they said, when and blamed it on the weather. They tried to upsell everywhere. My home is stained and after power washing they said I needed to prime the entire house for an additional 1600). A door frame needed to be repaired an I pointed out a bunch of cedar shakes I wanted replaced. The door doesn't close properly because the job was done poorly and in addition to not replacing a bunch of shingles that should have been replaced, they cut them out around the old shingles, not slid under another 1200. There are drips everywhere, including on trim, on a roof above my door and on my deck, so sloppy. I love the color but I am not impressed by much on this job. They were a contractor not Elco, I could have hired someone with less overhead and saved money, but I wanted experience. I am so disappointed this review is 3 months late. I paid quite a bit, we shall see how long it lasts. We have always painted ourselves but the house is too tall. I would never use Elco again. The owner called me after I called him saying after all the issues did you not want to hear what I thought. The foreman was a joke, never met him even though he was supposed to be onsite until I told the estimator I had never spoken to him. I wish I never sent the final payment but I really just wanted them gone! They were here over a month because they hardly put a full day. I thought my feelings would have subsided but every day that I see 3 broken deck lights, a snapped solar light wire and 3 broken vinyl sleeve covers on the portico, I realize I should have withheld payment. Listen to your gut on this one, if only the estimator calls you back dump them!
